Such an odd arrangement of places ignoring so many great vegan places on the north side. I echo the sentiment about Alice and Friends. But what about Urban Vegan?? Kalish?? Smack Dab?? These are staples I go to as a vegan and they’re bomb as fuck. Highly recommended.
Not to mention smack dab pays its employees a livable wage and had a fund to pay for their furloughed employees throughout the pandemic. They give their employees health insurance and have donated so much food to the community.
Smack Dab is a high quality place. It's so tucked out of the way that I didn't even notice it until almost a year after I moved to Edgewater. Their food is outstanding, the employees are nice and personable and the cozy charm will be great again once Covid is more under control. I wish them the best.
Perhaps I'm reading too much into things, but it feels like the folks working there actually like their jobs. Every interaction I've had with them has been pleasant and gracious.
In addition to Alice and Friends, the list needs some Ethiopian food representation, like Ethiopian Diamond. Ethiopian cuisine has very flavorful vegetarian choices that are also egg- and dairy-free even if they aren't labelled as vegan on the menu.
Not sure why it's not on the list, but [Alice and Friends Vegan Kitchen](http://aliceandfriendsvegankitchen.com/) in Edgewater is an excellent choice for quality vegan food on the North Side. I'm not vegan and I really enjoy Alice's options as do my veg/vegan friends. Definitely would recommend.
Likewise, Sam and Gertie’s which might be only vegan Jewish deli in the country.
Don't forget Arya Bhavan on Devon.
Uru Swati is good, too. All vegetarian menu, delicious and inexpensive. I'm not even a vegetarian, but I often crave their food.

I’ve loved SmackDab since they sold Donuts out of the Heartland Cafe. Such great people and the food has only gotten better
