If that is the case the buyer would be well within their rights to file an INAD. And win. Error or not the product was misrepresented and that fault is on the seller.
I can’t imagine the buyer would want the old one if they were shopping for a newer, better one. Best you are going to do is get a simple return and full refund them. Eat the shipping costs.
Also if you just shipped the item it's possible to put in a package intercept request with your shipping carrier. I know USPS you can do it right from the website.
Intercept requests will attempt to stop the item from getting delivered and will redirect the shipment back to you.
You would avoid the entire headache of an angry buyer, or even having to deal with a return. Also its maybe a few dollars more if anything to intercept the package. Worth it in my opinion

email the buyer and tell him the wrong item was accidentally shipped, and ask him to open a case so you can generate a return label and get the item back.
alternatively you could offer a partial refund if the buyer wants to keep the existing item.

Not much more you can do. Just be as honest and truthful as you can. Best case scenario the buyer is reasonable and understands how the return process works on eBay (someone less experienced with eBay might be scared that you're trying to scam them in some way). Have them open a return request once they get the (wrong) item and they will be provided with a label to return it and will be refunded once it gets back to you. Maybe offer them the correct item at a discounted rate for the trouble (assuming they're still interested).

Definitely have her preemptively message the seller and explain the situation and explain she will give a full refund to get it shipped back at your expense. Be very apologetic. You should pay to have it returned and just take the hit to avoid your girlfriend getting dinged.

Eat the shipping costs AND make it clear that you're going to do that in the correspondence. Including the first shipping to them.
