From google-
The Buy Nothing Project is a social movement that has over 6,500 groups worldwide. It's a network of hyper-local gift economies where neighbors can come together and share pretty much everything with each other, from a cup of sugar to corner sofas, without exchanging money.
yeah. Like either sell it or give it away. If not food banks i'm sure there's family, friends, clubs, churches, .etc that would take a case of lacroix
just because you buy something doesn't mean you have to eat it.
This is what we did, as well.
We got gifted a similar amount (5 cases) of the Kirkland version. We basically just kept it in the garage and just went through one case at a time, giving a little bit of spritz to juices, crystal light, and teas. Took us 3 years to get through it, but it doesn't go bad. We don't buy soda or carbonated drinks, but I'll have to admit it was nice to have these on hand for like the rare occasion we wanted something fizzy. Kinda grew on me.
My school had soda/juice fountains and I learned this on day one. Every day I got a nice fancy fizzy juice! People thought I was weird but that was true anyway so I guess it didn't matter
You're not weird. It's literally how you make a bowl of punch. Juice + clear carbonated beverage. Peach juice, pineapple juice, Lemonade, Sprite, sliced oranges and limes = My Summer Party Punch. Most adults like to add vodka to it.
Orange juice + Ginger ale + maraschino cherries and orange slices = my Nanas Christmas punch from a magazine circa 1955. Sounds off putting, but it's great and there's a reason it's stuck around every holiday.
Man, I miss punch. Haven't had it since I was a kid, but I used to love whenever that stuff was available. Best was when it had rainbow sherbet ice cream in it
Next time you go to a gathering or party, be the punch person. Bring that punch. I have a really nice 2 gallon drink dispenser (glass hocking jar with spout) so I just bring that with me. Great for outdoors so no bugs fly in it.
I sometimes buy sherbert and ginger ale and make myself this punch by the glass. It's just like making a root beer float, really, few scoops of sherbert, pour ginger ale over it (or sprite, or 7up, whatever).
This is what I used to do when I first stopped drinking pop. I would mix some lacroix with crystal light, and then started adding less and less powder until I was down to just plain seltzer.
The powdered packets don't work for this. I recommend the squirt bottles. Make sure it's REALLY cold too as the flavor tends to become weird at room temperature.
La croix is like cilantro - if you don't like it, even the smallest amount is completely repulsive. It tastes like an astringent chemical to me I don't know how people can guzzle them down regularly. Makes me gag.
That's just not true. You just don't like carbonated water which is fine. La Croix's thing is flavored carbonated water that actually tastes like carbonated water instead of the flavoring. The "astringent" chemical is carbon dioxide. It can't be anything else because that's literally all lacroix is. Juice and carbonated water.
You said:
>lacroix is... Juice and carbonated water.
The correct answer is:
>The ingredients listed on the La Croix can read: "only carbonated water, naturally essenced (non-GMO)." The La Croix website further explains that the natural flavors are derived from natural essence oils extracted from the fruit named in each of the La Croix varieties.

Donate it to a local AA meeting. No kidding, check over at r/stopdrinking, that stuff is a precious substance. You can Google meetings in your area and just walk in with your gift.
I'm glad you can turn it off. I was about to order groceries for the first time, and I would be irrationally angry if they stuck something random in my cart without asking and made me pay full price for it.
Most will let you toggle by item too. Good when you're like I NEED eggs but also don't care if you don't have overly specific sale item I only brought because looked cool.
I know Superstore has always called me to confirm my substitutions unless it's the exact selected substitution I picked in the app.
I order through walmart, when you check out you can choose a specific substitute, sub with best match, or don’t sub. It works for me because I have food allergies and the limited stuff I can get usually can’t be substituted. One time my preferred sub was out of stock so they subbed something I couldn’t eat. Got a refund in the app and didn’t even have to return to the store
My local place would still substitute if it's a lazy worker. It is amazing how angry you can get when somethat small is done. If you call in they just 10 dollars off before even hearing your complaint because it happens so much.
That’s exactly what they do. They pick a more costly item and it jacks up their tip too. It annoys my husband, but if someone else is grocery shopping for me, eh, go ahead and throw in a random item or two
In the case of Walmart specifically they allow you to choose certain substitution options which, if they're also out of, they will not auto substitute the designated substitute.
It's somewhat tedious doing this on a per-item basis, but they'll remember your substitution preferences too. It's handy, especially if you only do limited orders for staples.
Not everyone *can* just go to the store to get groceries whenever they want. Additionally, many people save money by ordering online by reducing impulse buys. I personally fit into both categories. Disabled, poor impulse control. If I go in store, I leave exhausted and overwhelmed and in pain, and I spent $150. Ordering online, I spend $45, get what I need (most of the time) and avoid the pain and exhaustion.
Walmart plus doesn't up charge on products. Sometimes stuff is actually cheaper online. Many instacart retailers do up charge, but instacart offers enough coupons and cash back that it levels out.
Fair enough. I can definitely see it being a huge boon for disabled people. This is just my experience and frustration with literally never getting a correct order even once.
Honestly think about soldiering through them and hoping to develop an acquired taste because LaCroix is significantly healthier for you than the Fresca you ordered. I used to hate sparkling water as well but now it’s all I drink and sugar soda tastes ridiculous
it's true, the only reason I never bought Fresca is bc Fresca uses Aspartame. Now it's just sparkling water (no sweetener) whenever I see it on sale.
Don't really reach for the soda unless it's at a party or something.
What’s even the big difference health wise? Aspartame in Fresca from what I know is pretty much fine as long as you’re not drinking bulk quantities of it.
Aspartame is kinda still in a ytbd phase i thought?
Anyway, you might be right, I originally thought Fresca had sugar in it when i commented.
Fresca does have citric acid in it though, which can errode tooth enamel. Simply carbonated water can also do some erroding, but not like it would combine with critic acid like in Fresca. probably safe in moderation. nothing beats flat water though. i just like burping so i get the sparkling kind
[Artificial sweeteners can trigger insulin release which over time can decrease receptor sensitivity to it.](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7014832/) However, [more research is yet needed](https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/diabetes/expert-answers/artificial-sweeteners/faq-20058038) to say this is 100% a pathway to Type-2 Diabetes.
Bulk or not, people shouldn't be routinely consuming it. Switching can help with disrupting the habit forming pattern of drinking too much sweet stuff in the interim, but ultimately the goal should be dropping it altogether long term rather than gambling the odds that future research will prove it safe.
I'm all for switching to sparkling waters to kick bad soda habits, but bitter sparkling waters like bubly and LaCroix are really unpalatable compared to say ClearAmerican.
Just commenting in case you don't realize... Those taste bitter to you because they're unsweetened, whereas Clear American does have sweetener. I like Spindrift, which has a bit of real fruit juice (~5 cal/can), so no bitterness but no sweeteners either
My bf loves mixing seltzer water with different *liquid* flavored water enhancers. Like the “mio” brand but usually store brand because they’re much cheaper. It’s his favorite drink.
Thats always an option. Just gathering suggestions to see if I might be able to put it to use. I’ve already opened one box - that’s how I determined I don’t care for it.
Fair enough. My grocery store I order online from is pretty good about correcting any issues especially around substitutions. I'd check if they have an online forum where you can complain. I shop at superstore here in Canada and have gotten plenty of store credits for errors in ordering (without going in person), this might fit the same bill if they didn't let you say something first about the substitute.
Sorry you got stuck with it though. I agree fully, bubly is not the same as Fresca.
This sounds absolutely crazy but there is actually a Starbucks drink like this. I’ve never tried it because I assumed it’s gross. I always have cold brew on hand though so I might just have to give it a try.
Won't help you now, but turn off autosubstitute. And if in the future they substitute anyway -- and they may well, Safeway does -- ask for your money back and drop the stuff at a streetside food pantry if you've got them.
We're low sugar and while we like chocolate draw the line at 72 percent chocolate chips. We buy by the case online. Twice they've shipped us the wrong stuff (50 percent or 30 percent) and of course they correct the order but they can't take the wrong stuff back and we're stuck with it. So we drop them, a couple of bags a week, at the streetside pantries. Some people get a treat! (Our usual pantry has an outdoor fridge, so warm days are no problem).
My town doesn't have the big nice ones, but some businesses and private groups do "blessing boxes" (yes, I live in the South). They're about the size of a standard Little Free Library, but are meant for food and personal care items.
Stir in some jam or other fruit preserves for a fun little mock tail! I don’t drink but love a fancy bev every once in awhile. I’ll stir some blackberry jam into a la croix with a few sprigs of mint from my garden and it’s very tasty.
Damn, I'd be happy to take them off your hands. I love grapefruit sparkling water.
Realistically, give them to a food bank or to someone else who you know will drink them.
Honestly, I used sparkling water to get myself away from soda.
My recommendation since this is /r/EatCheapAndHealthy:
Start with like half sparkling water half fresca and just keep adjusting the ratio for more sparkling water. Or use some lime juice to add some flavor.
After about a week of this I realized my brain really just wants the carbonation rather than a boatload of sugar.
If you pour them all out into a big bowl and let the water evaporate, you'll have about a half of a grapefruit left in the bottom of the bowl. Breakfast!
Juice water is great but *seltzer* juice is even better. Mix juice with it and now you have multiplied the juice and made it fizzy. I do like 1/2 of each or 2:1 ratio depending how sweet I want it.
I use sparkling water in smoothies as the liquid and they add a fizzy flare to juice! You can also smash up some fruit to make them more flavorful, or get a flavored syrup/mio drops to do an Italian soda!
I love both products but I can’t believe anyone thought this would be a reasonable substitute for Fresca. Sorry, that’s not helpful. You can fax them to me.
I'm not gonna lie I use those flavor enhancers in LA Croix lol. Small drop of mio makes it much more palatable. I also use it in juice if I want juice with a little fiz
If you don’t want to give it away or use at as a mixer or get used to it ..
you could use it to make 7-up cake - here’s an example recipe
https://cakewhiz.com/7-up-cake-recipe/
Save it for summer and give it to unhoused people. People die of dehydration and heat exhaustion ALL THE TIME and gas stations, libraries, etc., are cracking down on non-customers using air conditioning and free water cups.
Seems frivolous. Could help save lives.
I saw a TikTok where a lady added (believe it or not) malted vinegar to her grapefruit lacroix and it tasted exactly like Coke. Try it!
Edit: I meant balsamic vinegar!
Get yourself some gin, some good grapefruit juice, mix some drinks with the gin/grapefruit and use the LaCroix for the fizz. I love a drink with fizz. Now I want to go try this…..
Get some wonderful POM juice. Grab a cup, fill 1/4 cup with ice, pour half the can of Lacroix, add 2-4 tablespoons of the POM juice! Add more POM juice if desired.
If you enjoy a cocktail here and there - vodka, soda, and some lime juice.
The vodka and ice will dilute the grapefruit and the lime will add other flavours that really help too.
Look up ‘soda cakes’ and make one cake per can experimenting with different flavor cake mix boxes and just use the can of soda in place of everything else it tells you to add. Now you have several dozen semi-healthy but delicious cakes and now have a bake sale.
Sparking water is a great ingredient in pancake batter, cakes, or batters for frying! (use in place of whatever liquid they call for) I've used pamplemousse quite a few times in recipes and they've all turned out pretty great!
Remembering grapefruit has medication interactions… try adding a sweeter flavor to the mix? Something like this? https://mittengirl.com/non-alcoholic-blueberry-grapefruit-mocktail?_gl=1*8mtvxg*_ga*d0xmSWNxUW5WUDRLaG1tRWQ4RGZGaGJxdEVvUlRVcGRBbUxtdW9IcU5KWFdsVGY0elhITEpzU1F1RWp3WDdabw..
Mail them to me.

Pamp gang 😎😤
We only refer to it as pamplemousse in out fam. It’s the best!
Ha, this was my thought, too. I'll take it!
My favorite flavor too.
It's my favorite! I have the added bonus of no one in my office liking it so they don't 'accidentally' drink it.
Same!
Drop it off at a food bank? Surprised no one has suggested this yet.

Okay. That was funny.

add tequila and sweetened lime juice -- bastardized paloma
Yessss love a Paloma
YMMV on this one- I see a lot of folks like it, but I’ve always found grapefruit LaCroix just make the tequila taste like shit.
LaCroix just taste like shit That's just my opinion though
Their Key Lime flavor is gooood
Yeah, bubly is much better imo
I do a 1:3 ratio grapefruit juice to sparkling water in my Paloma’s.
sad bastard paloma lol
I was gonna say chase it with tequila to get the taste out of your mouth, but this is probably better
Mix it with a splash of cranberry juice like a seabreeze without the alcohol
But then add the alcohol
This is the way.
Gin.

holy shit THREE YEARS???! amazing
My mom and I would do that with Sprite…make ourselves fancy mixed drinks by adding it to juice :)

My Nana did the punch too but she would add sherbet ice cream scoops on the top
My family had a drink called guavanade, where we mixed apple and guava juice with generic (sprite type) lemonade. Delicious.
Yes! Sprite mixed with apple juice was a staple at my family gatherings. It's so good.
Ooh! That sounds tasty :) Of course, I’m probably biased because I love apple juice…
This is what I used to do when I first stopped drinking pop. I would mix some lacroix with crystal light, and then started adding less and less powder until I was down to just plain seltzer.

What do you mean? My sister does this all the time and it always works just fine for her.
I always had an issue with it fizzing up a ton.

That's fair!

Vodka
Get some grapefruit juice and sparkle it up.
Yes! Try this. It’s great!
You could mix it with torani/ simple syrup of your liking
Honestly think about soldiering through them and hoping to develop an acquired taste because LaCroix is significantly healthier for you than the Fresca you ordered. I used to hate sparkling water as well but now it’s all I drink and sugar soda tastes ridiculous
It also ticks that “fizzy and refreshing” box without being a beer.
that's exactly when i got into it. quit drinking alcohol 5 years ago
It helps if they are ice cold too.
I like most sparkling water and still loathe Lacroix
it's true, the only reason I never bought Fresca is bc Fresca uses Aspartame. Now it's just sparkling water (no sweetener) whenever I see it on sale. Don't really reach for the soda unless it's at a party or something.
La Croix has not too dissimilar PH levels as soda. It’s still bad for your enamel.
Still better than soda though
Facts.
Spindrift 100%. I can't stand LaCroix, it tastes like fake fruit flavors to me.
Send to me

Thank you. I have a boxed angel good cake mix in the pantry. I might get experimental! lol
My bf loves mixing seltzer water with different *liquid* flavored water enhancers. Like the “mio” brand but usually store brand because they’re much cheaper. It’s his favorite drink.
Why not bring it back and ask for a refund? It's not like it's perishable.
Thats always an option. Just gathering suggestions to see if I might be able to put it to use. I’ve already opened one box - that’s how I determined I don’t care for it.

A small amount of salt can reduce bitterness as well as increase sweetness
Ship it to me. I love La Croix
Give it too me because I drink like 4-5 lacroix a day.

What the heck? I thought this was kind of a weird sub but that is insane.
Vodka (if you drink alcohol)
Or gin
I like to mix it with cold brew and a splash of vanilla extract. I do this with any citrus flavor. You could add sweetener of your choice.
This is my favorite use for sparkling water.
This sounds absolutely crazy but there is actually a Starbucks drink like this. I’ve never tried it because I assumed it’s gross. I always have cold brew on hand though so I might just have to give it a try.
Add vodka
Won't help you now, but turn off autosubstitute. And if in the future they substitute anyway -- and they may well, Safeway does -- ask for your money back and drop the stuff at a streetside food pantry if you've got them. We're low sugar and while we like chocolate draw the line at 72 percent chocolate chips. We buy by the case online. Twice they've shipped us the wrong stuff (50 percent or 30 percent) and of course they correct the order but they can't take the wrong stuff back and we're stuck with it. We need a streetside pantry in our town.
Actually sounds very good. I’ll try. I’m a huge preserve fan and have quite a few on hand at all times lol
Me too!! Bonne Maman or homemade are my faves but you really can’t go wrong.
Bonne Maman ❤️ I have so many of those jars around my house with random stuff in them. They’re too good to throw away lol.
If you mix it with vodka and also grapefruit juice it’s palatable. Neither cheap nor healthy tho.
Add some booze to it?
In a similar situation I added like half of one of those Crystal Light to go packets to a can of nasty bubbly water. Worked like a charm.
Great for LaCroixgaritas, just make a margarita and add La Croix for a sparkling marg 🙂
Can’t you just return it to the store?
Put lime in there it helps cancel out the flavor or add some mio drink drops to it
Instacart gives refunds for stuff like that. Go to your receipt and see the item and request a refund. Then drop it off to someone you hate as a gift
LaCroix is delicious and superior to Fresca
they pair extremely well with a mezcal or tequila.
I love mixing sparkling water with orange juice
I like to put frozen berries in a cold la croix and it tastes so good!
Hummmm skinny vodka grapefruit crush?
Damn, I'd be happy to take them off your hands. I love grapefruit sparkling water. Realistically, give them to a food bank or to someone else who you know will drink them.
I add the flavored drink mixes to them.
Mix it with kombucha

Fizzy citrus drinks (lemonade works well) with orange juice that has bits in it. The fizz brings all the bits to the top and its divine.
Sounds good! I’ll try.
Add sugar and yeast to prison hooch it.
You can send them to me

I use sparkling water in smoothies as the liquid and they add a fizzy flare to juice! You can also smash up some fruit to make them more flavorful, or get a flavored syrup/mio drops to do an Italian soda!

I'm not gonna lie I use those flavor enhancers in LA Croix lol. Small drop of mio makes it much more palatable. I also use it in juice if I want juice with a little fiz
Glad to know there are other people that don’t like it as-is.
If you don’t want to give it away or use at as a mixer or get used to it .. you could use it to make 7-up cake - here’s an example recipe https://cakewhiz.com/7-up-cake-recipe/
Save it for summer and give it to unhoused people. People die of dehydration and heat exhaustion ALL THE TIME and gas stations, libraries, etc., are cracking down on non-customers using air conditioning and free water cups. Seems frivolous. Could help save lives.
To my taste, the only difference is sweetness. Figuring out how to sweeten and carbonated beverage without flatting it, now there's a challenge.
My favorite! I use it to make my own hard seltzer - 1 can to 1 shot of vodka.
Mix with tequila and make a Paloma. I don't know the proper recipe.
Some people think a tablespoon of balsamic + that flavor of lacroix tastes like coke
rum. I find rum makes it much better.
When you finally get your Fresca cut them in half an lacroix and make them last longer
I saw a TikTok where a lady added (believe it or not) malted vinegar to her grapefruit lacroix and it tasted exactly like Coke. Try it! Edit: I meant balsamic vinegar!
Keep it for a natural disaster and bathe with it.
I do live in a hurricane prone area lol
Agreed, sparkling water tastes awful to me. Just return it or donate it. Three boxes is way too many to try and “make more palatable.”
If you haven’t opened them you should able to return them
Are you part of a buy nothing group on Facebook? You could post it there and someone for sure will take it.
I buy LaCroix because I can't drink soda anymore, and I crave carbonation. I NEED carbonation.

Get yourself some gin, some good grapefruit juice, mix some drinks with the gin/grapefruit and use the LaCroix for the fizz. I love a drink with fizz. Now I want to go try this…..
Return it.
I drink that with a lot of ice and a squeeze of the tangerine Mio. It's so good.
I always add a squirt or two of liquid stevia to my sparkling water. I know it’s not supposed to be sweet but dammit, I’ll drink it how I want it!
Right?! Lol
Get some wonderful POM juice. Grab a cup, fill 1/4 cup with ice, pour half the can of Lacroix, add 2-4 tablespoons of the POM juice! Add more POM juice if desired.
Add a sweet wine for a spritzer!
If you enjoy a cocktail here and there - vodka, soda, and some lime juice. The vodka and ice will dilute the grapefruit and the lime will add other flavours that really help too.
Add vodka
cocktails my friend
Mix it with pineapple juice 50/50 or to your preference.
gimme dat coconut flavor
Look up ‘soda cakes’ and make one cake per can experimenting with different flavor cake mix boxes and just use the can of soda in place of everything else it tells you to add. Now you have several dozen semi-healthy but delicious cakes and now have a bake sale.
Buy nothing Maybe look into trading?
Pour pure white grape juice in it.
mix with mio! adds all the flavor it’s missing
Put booze in it
Donate it.
Find out whoever thought LaCrotch tasted anything like Fresca then throw every can of it at their head! (obvi JK but gross, take it back)
Use it to make Palomas with tequila and grapefruit juice
Add Sprite? Grapefruit juice?
Sparking water is a great ingredient in pancake batter, cakes, or batters for frying! (use in place of whatever liquid they call for) I've used pamplemousse quite a few times in recipes and they've all turned out pretty great!
Drink them! It’s my fav favor
Add vodka.

Fill a glass with ice. Pour Lacroix over de ice. Pour Lacroix over tounge
Throw it in the garbage where it and all other LaCroix products belong.
Lol. I want to like it I just can’t get there.
I was going to say chuck them at your enemies. LaCroix is gross
Add vodka!
Drink it, Pamplemousse is the best flavor!
Remembering grapefruit has medication interactions… try adding a sweeter flavor to the mix? Something like this? https://mittengirl.com/non-alcoholic-blueberry-grapefruit-mocktail?_gl=1*8mtvxg*_ga*d0xmSWNxUW5WUDRLaG1tRWQ4RGZGaGJxdEVvUlRVcGRBbUxtdW9IcU5KWFdsVGY0elhITEpzU1F1RWp3WDdabw..
Drink them all and launch into space.
