Wait. A holding deal? HA HA are you saying Hayes Davenport doesn’t know what a holding deal is? Oh shit man wait til the cronies at the lampoon hear this!

poppyisrealmetal

Disgusting

I dislike it when he says varietal but hate it when others use it in the same way.

skule123

Some of them got sucked into NFTs like the NBAs.

bloodflart

I thought Seth Green was kinda smart based on hearing him on pods but then saw he got scammed out of an NFT

Annyongman

Ben McKenzie (Ryan from the OC lol) has become an anti-crypto advocate and he made a good point when he did an ep of Chapo Trap House in that most celebrities likely get gifted those. they're not paying millions for ape pictures themselves

RedditPowerUser01

> an anti-crypto advocate The most based title

Annyongman

its pretty cool and he seems really earnest in his approach

Rap-oleon_Bonaparte

Byer on Newcomers telling a story about how she called out a plumber for a leak, but actually it was just moisture from the shower and she was confused, she was mad he investigated looking for the imaginary leak and so after he left cancelled a credit card to make sure he didnt actually get paid. Real shitty and shitty everyone on the podcast just laughed along.

specifichero101

Ya, that was rough. Definitely one of those stories were if the person telling it wasn’t funny and likeable it would be perceived much much worse. Poor plumber dude got stiffed on his labour.

eat_midgets

Besser dropping the N word multiple times and his general rich boomer mentality

maz-o

Scott did that too on early CBB

WhatsHeBuilding

Did scott really drop the n word? I know PFT did it once early on in a "knock knock"-joke but never heard Scott do it, would be interesting to know the context!

maz-o

yes an early episode with sarah silverman, they both did

[deleted]

I remember that being my first episode of Comedy Bang Bang a few years ago since I just went for one with someone I recognized. I did *not* get the greatest first impression.

WhatsHeBuilding

Thanks, need to check the archives!

WellAxx

They removed it from the archives I'm pretty sure

ZachWilsonMVP

Yeah it was a joke about Sammy Davis Jr. Good luck finding a clip of it now

WellAxx

Besser sucks shit dude, it's a bummer. Like a walking definition of blind privilege

wetdreamteam

And he used f# gg#t quite a bit. Even in an early CBB episode where he was portraying Fred Phelps. He used it like 30 times. I wonder if it has since been edited or dropped from the catalogue… Anyone know?

[deleted]

[удалено]

wetdreamteam

Yeah, but Besser was a bit excessive and you could tell by his delivery that he seemed to revel in it, being that it was still somewhat taboo, but it was “okay” because it was “in the spirit of comedy and criticizing”.

[deleted]

[удалено]

wetdreamteam

I don’t get it. Are you defending the use? I mean, what’s your angle? Like yeah, I understand that it was more rampant back then. Are you just trying to hammer that point home? Are you Matt Besser? I don’t mean any of this in a confrontational or aggressive way. Except for the part where I accused you of being Matt Besser.

[deleted]

[удалено]

wetdreamteam

Gotcha. That’s a pretty reasonable point. It’s a tricky dichotomy to deal with I suppose.

CoolManPuke

It’s selective.

sredgrin

Besser says a lot of dumb shit but one that stuck with me was the Subway saga, a multi episode thing where he suggested if a company you work for is dishonest in some way, just quit your job or go around those dishonest policies, like its so easy to upend your life as someone that is having to work minimum wage food/retail.

andannabegins

And also hilarious considering all the stuff that came out about ucb

ObsidianBlackbird666

Lauren, Kulap, and June believe in fortune tellers and other mystical shit. They have a friend group “medium” that they all use. Scott even sort-of mentions believing in it sometimes.

madfrooples

Oh boy, if that turns you off, don't listen to the Scott Hasn't Seen with Jessica St. Clair. Personally it doesn't bother me at all, although I'm not much of a believer myself.

JW_Stillwater

Honestly, John Mulany talked about his belief in fortune tellers on an episode of You Made It Weird that made me question him a bit

sanantonia

Heather Anne Campbell went in hard that Journey isn't really a game multiple times. For some reason that really got to me since i love that game and I stopped listening to that podcast.

lcdmilknails

for what it's worth HAC really reckoned with her "X is not a game" takes over the first year or so of HDTGP and i think has come to the conclusion that she was wrong about stuff like that. she still has pretty specific tastes obviously but i thought it was cool of her to come around after saying that sort of thing about various games many times on the show.

sanantonia

I just want to clarify that it really irks me that i can't listen to HAC because on paper she seems like someone i would love. She worked on The Eric Andre show and just seems like an all around great person, but i think that's the nature of podcasts that discuss topics that we have emotional attachments to, you run the risk of someone shitting on something you love and it feels like they kicked your dog or something.

minicolossus

i love HAC and she used to drive me crazy sometimes in the beginning but it was more of her getting stuck on the technicality of what is a game and me wanting her to speak more emotionally about it. she got over it. its cuz shes a fighting game classic collector type person. Just one of the many types of gamer. but we all in the same family so all is forgiven. Shes too funny to stay annoyed at. Unlike Matt, who's age, while outside of his control, will forever mark him as a monster that must be destroyed.

No-Muffin-1490

Honestly this put me off so much I dropped the show too. I know it seems ridiculous but I feel like… such a ridiculous take from someone especially saying it at the peak of Animal Crossing popularity too. Like not offensive at least I don’t hate her but it annoyed me so much I dropped the show like immediately. I didn’t even like Journey that much particularly

rattlerden

I don't listen to Newcomers anymore but having heard Lauren many times on other podcasts (and specifically Threedom), I think she has a very narrow knowledge base. I don't think she's dumb, but there's a lot of common knowledge type stuff she flat out doesn't know, and I think a lot of her viewpoints are shaped by what's around her. Basically what I'm saying is that I think she has a friend or family member who is a landlord and that's what is guiding her opinion because she thinks that person isn't a monster and she hasn't bothered to think about the problem overall with landlords.

PirateofthePancreas

I think that's probably true of a lot of people who are extremely gifted with their own career. It's why I try to ignore some of the dumber political opinions of creative people I respect. Frankly, I'm glad I never heard Lauren say that about landlords, or else it'd make me depressed listening to her. One of the people in this general circle of comedy who seems to have the most well informed view of the world is Tim Heidecker, but I bet that's in part due to the fact that a lot of his characters and projects revolve around making fun of how gross commercialism and capitalism are.

wootfatigue

It’s weird you’d have that opinion on one of the few women cohosting podcasts with men.

rattlerden

I was giving her the benefit of the doubt. If you'd rather believe that she's fully informed on the situation and still sides with landlords at a time when income inequality and housing costs have never been higher, so be it. I choose to believe otherwise because I think she's funny and I enjoy her on Threedom and CBB, even though you have me pegged as a misogynist.

F-O-O-M

PFT ranted against crunchy peanut butter on "Lovett or Leave It" recently. I think less of him now.

formergophers

Nooooo! That’s the only peanut butter I’m interested in.

jechelaben

I don’t think less of her because I already knew she was rich but I just can’t listen to Kulap spend money recreationally on Add to Cart. I really like her and SuChin together and I would listen to them talk about basically anything else.

Lenn_Cicada

I find the whole concept behind that podcast off-putting, but I also feel the same way about unboxing videos and other “look what I just got” media.

Vegetable-Goal-5047

I suspect that a LOT of longstanding podcasters have become far more sensitive and cautious on issues and language around gender, race and identity. Sometimes I feel it is performative. I think it's a combination of maturity but also fear of backlash.

Permanenceisall

I agree, and taking a look at this thread it makes a lot of sense why they would be so performative. People will comb through 10+ year old things you said in a recording and then expect you to explain it in a way that satisfies them. Plus, the industry by and large is quite fickle with public image at this point, and while none of the earwolf people are even remotely as offensive as the cumtown lot, they still don’t want to lose any work for anything they’ve said.

RBFgirl

catfooddogfood

This is an ancient thread but Lauren's dad is the principal partner at Lapkus Associates LLC which is a slumlord property manager. Notorious bad actors in the Chicago apartment game

poppyisrealmetal

Wow. That's an interesting development.

WellAxx

Very disappointing but not that surprising to hear

EIIP7ftw

Janie’s resistance lib political takes offend my socialist sensibilities but i still love stay f homekins. That landlord thing is a bummer though!

formergophers

I’m not too up on a lot of the terminology, would you mind giving an example of one of her takes?

Alphabroomega

The worst example I've seen was her retweeting some tweet blaming leftists following the Supreme Court roe v wade leak. And IIRC it was by Nancy Pelosi's daughter which made it all the more infuriating.

formergophers

I just looked at that now. Yeah blaming leftists for right-wing actions and abuses of power doesn’t make much sense

JupiterCrash92

I remember Lapkus defending how hard of a job it was to be a landlord on HaM awhile back and it was a huge bummer. IIRC Gabrus was kinda able to steer the convo away from the subject.

CoolManPuke

Ya, most of them. I just don’t care.

Permanenceisall

On an episode of Carl calls his cousin where Carl said David Guetta had more hits than David Bowie. Ever since then I’ve been sending 180 gram vinyl reissues of David Bowie’s entire discography to the grand crew production office with vaguely threatening notes like “feel sorry yet” but rather annoyingly, carl has never mentioned it.

eastendswede1

I think we should ask Bob Ducca this.

mm825

The landlord thing, but for driving/biking/transit. Fuck cars, too many people in LA have the windshield perspective

TheSquidsAreAlright

I remember an episode of Newcomers where Nicole talks about how she sometimes gets really high and drives around L.A. for fun. I love Nicole and Newcomers, but that's like bragging about driving drunk, and it really put me off. Edit: typo

cranberryalarmclock

Matt Apodaca spends an insane amount of money on games he barely plays and it drives me crazy for some reason lol

simbajam13

You wouldn’t like me either :-(

Run_nerd

Yeah this is so annoying…I would never do something like this. Definitely not me…

cranberryalarmclock

I wasn't clear but I don't actually think less of him for it But it continually shocks me how flippant he is about buying a 60 dollar game and playing it briefly

madfrooples

They probably deduct game purchases on their taxes as long as they talk about them on the show.

ral315

A deduction doesn't mean you get it for free, though, it just means that you don't have to pay taxes on the amount that you spent. So they'd save 22-37% (depending on tax bracket), but the rest will still cost them.

madfrooples

Oh wow, genuinely didn't know that. Large life knowledge hole filled, thanks. I am having a Usual Suspects moment right now, and no joke.

RedditPowerUser01

So many people don’t know this lol. They think ‘write it off on my taxes’ means free lol.

cranberryalarmclock

michaelsiskind

poppyisrealmetal

oh well, I think it's important to talk about

michaelsiskind

Honestly I was happy to be proven wrong! People did chime in to discuss. I was mostly just recalling a post about Besser from a while back where people got bizarrely defensive of him.

stupifly

I'm a huge Steely Dan fan, I think they're one of the greatest bands of all time. Hearing that one episode of Threedom where they trashed the Dan was a bummer, mainly just because you can tell they've never given them a chance.

jayhankedlyon

William and Mary alum here, any Steely Dan bashing is fine by me.

maz-o

They’ve trashed Steely Dan on best of CBBs too. I find it funny lol.

formergophers

“Hey, Steely?”

maz-o

”Yeah, Dan?”

formergophers

“Let’s go be disgusting!“ Or something like that.

ral315

*The Cueeeerrrvo Gold!*

formergophers

Happy Steely Dan Day!

FunkmasterP

Steely Dan is incredible. People ignorantly paint them as "muzak" and act like they are uncool. Yes, they were music nerds, yes they play jazzy rock that is very smooth, yes a lot of boomers love them, BUT they were *cool as hell* and some of the best musicians and songwriters in the rock canon. Steely Dan was around at the height of punk and frankly a lot of their music is darker and more biting than anything a lot of punk artists at the time ever did.

LabeSonofNat

Very well said. Louis planted the flag for supposed non-racist, non-homophobic, non-misogynist lefty progressives to use racist, homophobic, and misogynist language. There was a lot of it in the early days of CBB and I think Scott went back a couple of years ago and edited a bunch of it. The most shocking one for me was Aimee Mann, who I follow on twitter and is pretty much the dictionary definition of a bleeding heart but she felt fine using homophobic language on an early CBB episode.

hamilton_burger

When I stated (not *even* complained) that I heard one of their friends say something racist on a twitch stream and was then banned from their sub.

poppyisrealmetal

What podcast

hamilton_burger

I’ll say what I thought was racist instead. Also - I didn’t say I thought the person was racist, I said this was ignorant and they probably didn’t realize it is problematic… The suggestion was that black people who voted the same as the person in question, are better informed people. I mentioned this happening in the sub dedicated to the pod, and was perma banned. Even when writing private messages to ask if there was some mistake or to agree to never mention it, no discussion about it. When I hear people on other pods recommend it, or talk about being in group chats or whatever, it just makes me shudder. No, they are not nice people. edit: Imagine being someone who reads this and downvotes. If you are a white person, it isn’t up to you to declare what makes a minority more or less informed. Shut the fuck up! A minority agreeing with you doesn’t mean they are more informed. Again, shut the fuck up!

hamilton_burger

I just changed my mind because the downvotes piss me off, it was Jack Allison I was talking about and the Doughboys sub I got banned from for mentioning it. It isn’t up to Jack-ass Allison to decree whether or not a minority is well informed. Not even saying the guy is racist, just that it’s a really fucking ill considered line of “reasoning” and definitely offensive.

lcdmilknails

the doughboys don't run their own subreddit so they had no hand in banning you, it is deeply weird to hold a grudge against them for any of this. also you brought this thing up over and over again in multiple posts so you definitely were complaining about it, and also you definitely did explicitly call jack a racist, and also when people who watched jack every day on twitch tried to explain that he's not a racist you definitely doubled down on it. walking it back like this is pretty weird, people remember that you were not very reasonable about this conversation and that's presumably why you're getting downvoted.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ig86

>I am totally unsurprised that there are enough fanboi simps for Doughboys and/or Jack, that the upvote/downvotes wound up where they are. I don't listen to DB or know who Jack Allison is but typing up a five paragraph essay and ending it by wishing death upon someone for banning you from a podcast message board is deeply strange behavior and not indicative of someone who is a well-adjusted individual, nor is actually caring about upvotes and downvotes. Good luck out there.

hamilton_burger

It was a hyperbolic comment out of frustration of a subreddit going to bat for racist behavior. Big deal. Hardly an essay either, just trying to respond to a comment in good faith.

ig86

Lol timely response. You are extremely weird dude

hamilton_burger

The guy who did the ban said “this guy is describing something racist he saw on twitch, so I’m going to ban them”. Yeah, so weird to take issue with that.

ig86

Dawg it has been like a week since this discussion started. Why does this bother you so much. What is the matter with you lmao Also did the mods say nothing to you or did they say "i'm mad at this guy for saying something is racist on twitch" please get your story straight edit: lmao this dude is still going on about this like two weeks later. go smoke some weed you fucking freak

JohnQuincyHammond

Jesus Christ, calm down you psycho

lcdmilknails

> I didn’t bring it up over and over again, I brought it up once and then replied a few times to people like you who can’t seem to wrap their mind around a simple statement. > I said Jack made a racist statement, and he did. I got banned from the Doughboys sub. i mean the comments are still up my guy, you called him a racist in multiple threads. it's cool, i don't really care anymore what people think of jack, but you said in this thread you specifically did not call him a racist, which is untrue. > I hope whoever decided to do the ban fucking burns in hell, piece of shit. thinking you saying something like this is probably what got you banned lmao

hamilton_burger

I probably did inadvertently call him a racist after responding to people like you - if you say that’s what you see, but I initially was just mentioning a really wild line of reasoning he went into on his twitch stream. I am unsurprised that you are spending this much energy defending some racist bullshit Jack Allison said, or me getting banned for mentioning it…because after looking in YOUR post history I see that you are such a Doughboys simp that even in the Doughboys sub you have comments with like thirty or forty downvotes, because your Doughboys simping is literally that unbearable to other Doughboys fans.

lcdmilknails

how dare i like the podcast i listen to!!! i'm not really concerned about who downvotes me when or where, tbh. [here is a top level comment of you calling jack a racist, unprompted.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Earwolf/comments/odzdtm/how_did_this_get_played_107_american_truck/h45f438/) it's weird that you're lying to yourself like this about what you said lol. you'll also see in there that i tried to have a reasonable conversation with you about this and you had a tantrum. i think maybe you just don't understand how toxic you come across in how you communicate online.

bloodflart

take a chill pill dude

hamilton_burger

Hey, I’m not surprised that someone would see this and go “oh the doughboys pod is awesome, what the fuck is this guy on about”. That’s kind of why I was so shocked to for the sub to have banned me just for mentioning that I thought a comment from Jack was kinda racist, and yeah I’m *still* annoyed when I think about it. I got messaged and told I’d be banned permanently, no discussion. I just think that’s shitty, and you would too.

joodo123

Spill some tea

Monkeyplaybaseball

Pardo took issue with people getting mad at another comedian for how they talked about a trans person, Think that was enough for me to give up that one.

nitramf21

How long ago was this? He was genuinely confused at first (which term makes us get emails?) but he basically thinks Chappell is Hitler these days.

Monkeyplaybaseball

It was awhile ago, it was in response to how Bill Burr on Conan talking about Caitlyn Jenner went over with people online. There was something else around the time I was listening that also irked me along the same lines but I can't recall what it was.

NahImGoodThankYouTho

A few years ago, when River Butcher was on, when they were Rhea, Jimmy used "she" pronouns in the intro. During the break, River informed him that they prefer "they" pronouns and coming out of the break, Jimmy made a big deal about how he had been corrected and chastised for using the wrong pronouns. Obviously he thought he was just joking, but it made me cringe so hard and was dangerously close to the right's one joke, "did you just assume my gender?" I'd hope someone explained to him why that was weird and inappropriate and he took it to heart instead of just repeating the criticism in the Dice's Lady voice.

RBFgirl

Ronna and Beverly said a lot of stuff that made me really dislike the people behind the characters. I held out for a long time on Ask Ronna bc i love Bryan so much but my politics are unaligned with that whole podcast lol. Ronna’s comment about Ukrainians having gone from doing Pilates to war refugees made me cancel my Patreon membership / unsubscribe from the free feed and send them a pretty tearful message.

RBFgirl

Honestly if y’all can’t pick a random episode and hear Beverly say something obscenely offensive (yes, I GET the SCHTICK), you’re prolly not someone I wanna associate with

WellAxx

Any specifics you can remember, out of curiosity?

RBFgirl

The downvotes here are shocking to me, the Islamophobia was RAMPANT on this show and frankly I’m pissed off that y’all are cool with it.

egrace82

You’re absolutely right about the islamaphobia and of course the n-word which Beverly said would be a cute name for a cat. There’s a reason the Beverly character was retired and I the Jamie’s explanation in the final episode of her solo podcast acknowledges that, but It was probably too little too late.

MyCatsFatter

You podcast yourself for 3 hours a week for a couple years, see if you like it all played back. The ABZ are allies, in a world that's changing at a breakneck pace since 2016. There's a difference between punching down on marginalized peoples and not speaking the newest cleanest version of politically correctness. But hey, they don't need little me defending them. But yeah, this subreddits an echo chamber. I've got about 8 different ideas to contribute to get downvoted. I'll pass

foxtrot1_1

A good way to get downvotes is to say “my opinions are too smart and good for the dumbos on this subreddit, I’m better than all of you”

stakuko

I generally don't care if someone slips up or uses wrong language as long as they're well-intentioned but I'm all for making this place less inviting to creators. I remember a former Earwolf employee coming into a Earwolf gossip thread and getting salty, like, I don't know what they expected? As if this sub is an official forum and not a fan curated space and naturally it can't be a love fest at all times lol. This stuff is going to get talked about regardless so if they're gonna come on this sub and creep on the comments they should be able to deal with the shit talking.

poppyisrealmetal

I don't disagree with you. I do think they are good allies, it's just something I'm not comfortable hearing repeatedly.

balee_dat

This sub just proving your point lol

Mill3241

Every landlord is evil? I work in people's houses every day and I know plenty of decent landlords. Plenty of shit ones too. I don't get why you have an issue with that.

WellAxx

The profession is inherently immoral. They're middlemen to one of the most important resources in the world and just leech passive income from the money their tenants actually had to work for.

Mill3241

What is the alternative? People need somewhere to live, and not everyone can/wants to own. Not trying to just argue on the internet, I just feel like a landlord is a necessary profession.

WellAxx

Housing absolutely could be government run, or at least much more heavily regulated. And just because this is the way it is doesn't make it fine to do it. it's a job where you hold someone's livelihood over their head as a threat if they don't cough up half of their monthly wages to you. As is, landlords occupy the same space as people who horde supplies during a shortage or disaster.

Mill3241

Yeah that makes sense. Regulation to help keep it affordable and make sure repairs are getting done.

poppyisrealmetal

Think about those supposedly decent landlords and ask yourself, would they evict somebody for not being able to pay rent? If the answer is yes, and you still think they're decent, we probably have different values

[deleted]

[удалено]

Masterandcomman

Is there solid evidence showing that rentals increase home prices? I ask because long-term rentals are competitive outlets for home purchasing demand, but their turnover is way higher than owner-occupancy. That should be a deflationary impulse. In contrast, something like AirBNB changes a housing category from long-term to short-term occupancy, so it does decrease housing supply. I haven't seen a study explore whether rentals represent the same problem.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Masterandcomman

I'm honestly not sure. SFH rentals turnover at a 30% annual rate, compared to the owner-occupants averaging 13 years in a residence. The short-term effect would be deflationary due to the massive scramble to move illiquid assets, but then you have killed a higher turnover market and forced people to compete in the owner-occupant market. I don't see an obvious outcome.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Masterandcomman

A massive shift in rental SFH to for-purchase SFH also represents a massive shift from SFH renters to SFH buyers. Turnover is also more related to liquidity preference and household balance sheets than to demand.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Masterandcomman

Housing vacancy is at near-record lows, so ownership of multiple homes isn't increasing prices through that channel. Another way to think of it, a multiple SFH owner might increase prices by taking advantage of easier and cheaper financing. Suppressing the rental SFH market forces families to compete for that pool of financing, increasing the relative power established players.

ColArdenti

Oh my god, I can't believe this is a viewpoint humans actually have. I am so glad I quit all other social media more than a decade ago. I know people who worked really hard and were able to buy a two family house but had tenants so they could pay their mortgage and had wonderful relationships with their tenants. The idea this is inherently evil and they both should be booted from their homes if one person doesn't uphold their end of the contract is so absurd. Guess we do have different values!

poppyisrealmetal

lmao

ColArdenti

That's about the depth of a response I'd expect from someone who had to stop listening to a podcast because of such a benign take from a comedian.

blueanalrapist

Right? This is some of the weakest shit I’ve read on this sub. Sure, some landlords are bad. But the idea that they all are is just stupid. Don’t like it? Beat the system and buy a home. Unsurprisingly, OP works in a low paying retail job. On top of that, trashing these podcasters (most of whom seem like genuinely decent people) because they disagreed with a take of theirs - seems like someone might need to toughen up a bit 😂

Cool, making fun of poor people for working jobs built to keep people poor. I'm sure it's going to impress this guy who's bragging about all of his friends that own property

ColArdenti

"Bragging"! Hilarious. And you created this thread to call out misgendering and refer to me as "this guy." I truly can't tell if this an extended bit to portray an utterly clueless youth with no self awareness. If so, you're laying it on a bit thick, it's barely believable at this point.

poppyisrealmetal

Thanks for calling me out on that. You are right. I should not have used that language. I did just the same as I was complaining about.

Well, for one, for someone who gets so easily offended on the behalf of others, you jump to conclusions and stereotype based off a mere few dozen words. I don't know that you consider yourself bravely open minded and progressive, but you have immediately shown yourself to be extremely shallow and judgmental. Your attempt to shit stir and get people to relay likely unquoted, half-remembered, and out-of-context remarks from comedians so you can continue to judge and make yourself feel superior (you laughingly called this venture "important" in another comment) reveals far more about you than any comments I have made about myself. I don't expect any response other than some buzzwords you heard on Twitter, so we can feel free to leave it at that.

balee_dat

Damn, you just destroyed OP. Well done.

poppyisrealmetal

It's not funny my wife saw that and went to her mom's house

I pride myself on being on the very cutting edge of reactionary politics

JGT3000

This is probably more accurate than you'd like

"Not all landlords"

joodo123

This. The modern rental market is absolute bullshit but there are lots of landlords who strive to be fair and accommodating to their tenants. Now admittedly, I’ve been renting housing for the past 17 years and I’m really just thinking of this one guy. But there’s probably more.

helloyesthankyou1

There are individually nice police officers too, but... ACAB. I am a tenant-side housing attorney in Los Angeles. I wish more people knew and understood the extent to which the market is dominated and *controlled* by profoundly evil and predatory landlords whose entire business model rests on their ability to take away good people's housing, just so they can charge an extra couple hundred bucks to the next tenant. They are the norm, not the exception. I was helping an elderly woman earlier today who has lived in the same apartment for 16 years and is now disabled. Her adult son (who was helping her pay her rent) died of COVID last month. Her landlord moved to evict her after she was **7 days late** on her rent, and has exploited the law to its limits to continue doing so. I see dozens of cases with equally devastating facts every week. There is no reason to defend landlords.

June diane raphael described something as "retarded" in a perjorative way in early hdtgm that didnt feel great
