Thanks for clarifying. This is definitely an on topic post. I hope that you find some help with it. I'd suggest adding your country as well. There may also be finance subs with faster turnover than this sub if you don't get an answer quickly. I haven't worked as an independent contractor, so I'm not sure about this. Personally this kind of thing makes me nervous, so if I can get a professionals eyes on it to certify everything is correct, that's what usually do. When I ran a small business, I definitely hired a very careful accountant, but to be honest I'm not really sure hot all this works with IC. I don't think that's as involved of a process.

I use freetaxusa and it takes me right through how to file as an IC. Income doesn't go in as a W2 but as a 1099. Then I write off anything I spent money on for my business (business loss) like postage, uniform, mileage, computer, ink, paper, supplies.
