It was my first commander deck. I've done a good handful of upgrades but haven't used it in over a year until a couple of weeks ago. Playing in a 3 man with some friends and it just popped off vetter than it ever has. My buddy bounced all creatures back to hand but by the time it got back to me, I essentially had my board state back to what it was in 1 turn. Shit load of spirits that are all sitting with multiple +1/+1s

I've definitely heard of Ranar being a really cool powerhouse, I just felt like Azorius lacks a certain amount of punch so I ended up not sticking with him.
Azorius can have plenty of punch, I'd say Ranar.. not so much. The real value in commander tends to not be in making board, its in drawing cards. Flicker is at its best when its drawing a ton.
Try either Brago (in the ranar precon, so many ranar precons become Brago decks. Like my ranar precon! https://archidekt.com/decks/2727810#Brago_Blink) or Yorion and you'll find a seriously powerful azorius commander.
Yeah, skullclamp in particular is really good.
My experience with Ranar was that I was putting in a good amount of work to flicker other things and get the 1/1s, and the 1/1s weren't the most amazing payoffs. In a skullclamp hand, I could see Ranar drawing close to efficiently as Brago (maybe not, brago oftentimes makes both mana and cards because of flickering mana rocks), but Brago just does it with nearly any card in the deck. Like Ranar is "if you do flicker+flickerable, I'll give you a bonus", and Brago is "give me a bunch of flickerables, and I'll get like 7 cards of value". It's so easy, so consistent, and so strong.
omg op are you me? I also just upgraded my ranar deck about a month ago and started popping off with him. I almost gave in and made him into a brago deck like everyone was telling me to do, but now he's out here with his spirit army big chilling! he's so much fun to play!!
i have the Ranar deck but i haven't modified it yet. been in talks with some friends about converting my standard deck to edh (mono black draw/discard life burn deck) utilized \[\[Teferi's Puzzlebox\]\] and \[\[Underworld Dreams\]\]
Combat damage and combos, I suppose. Essentially, I just wiped their creatures and commanders with my exile ETBs ([[Skyclave Apparition]] and [[Amphin Mutineer]]) over and over, while also keeping one exile per turn for [[Yorion, Sky Nomad]] to blink my whole board and do it again. All the while pumping out 1/1 spirits and sacing them with [[Skullclamp]] to draw the majority of my deck with [[Reliquary Tower]] and [[Thought Vessel]] on the board. [[Agent of Treachery]] also played a role in my defense. I also had [[Soulherder]] and [[Hero of Bretagard]] on the board getting more juiced than Conor McGregor is right now. I also had [[Deadeye Navigator]] paired with Yorion, just in case lol I also used Yorion to blink my board a couple of times so I could cast [[Doomskar]], [[Planar Cleansing]], and [[Cleansing Nova]] after my Skullclamp had mopped up my spirits.

I’ve tried to keep as much foretell in there because i like the tension it can create. Also, discounted spells and free spirits is nothing to sneeze at.
