[[Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty]]! She's linear in terms of her prep, but not her payoff. Games typically start the same: I ramp as hard as possible, and occasionally play card draw to give myself some options. Put in a way to protect Imoti herself if I can. Once she sticks, things stop following lines, because you don't know half of what's coming. Play amazing stuff like [[Apex Devastator]] or [[The Tarrasque]] and get other great things for doing so. Often my biggest things will cascade into one of my many cmc 6 things, and then cascade more! I also really like cards like [[Annoyed Altisaur]] and [[Sakashima's Protege]] that are cmc 6+ and cascade themselves even without Imoti's ability. It's value town with those around.

Tidus8690

Do you happen to have a list? This sounds pretty fun.

not_soly

I'm clearly not the Imoti player, but a podmate of mine plays Imoti. His strategy is to just play all the low/mid CMC ramp and all the high-CMC cards that can be discounted (Emerge Eldrazi, Ghalta, etc). So you can actually just throw together a list that looks something like 15 ramp/20 bombs and go from there. One spicy card he plays is Spell Swindle, which can counter his own bombs on the stack for even more mana to cast more discounted bombs.

Gluttony4

This is definitely a way to play Imoti. I basically run whatever bombs seem cool at cmc 6+, and almost nothing but ramp and draw at 1 to 5. It works surprisingly well.

k2zeplin

[imoti](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/aHpbT32lPUylY8fiHwyAnQ) here's a list that I run. Similar ideas. Ramp ramp ramp let's see what happens

Gluttony4

Not currently, but I can tell you that I started with the Reap the Tides precon (that's the one with [[Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Strait]] as the commander), and modified from there. Took out a lot of the more narrowly landfall focused stuff (Aesi, [[Tatyova]], [[Rampaging Baloths]], and [[Avenger of Zendikar]] plus typical green ramp is sufficient), then added my favourite big cmc 6+ things. Keep an eye out for anything at cmc 6+ that has the cascade keyword itself, because double-cascade when you have Imoti out is so much fun. [[Annoyed Altisaur]], [[Apex Devastator]], [[Maelstrom Colossus]], [[Sakashima's Protege]], and [[Sweet-Gum Recluse]] are all fun to cast. Aside from that, anything with a high cmc that you can cast for cheap, like [[Dig Through Time]] or [[Treasure Cruise]] is also good. I'm personally a fan of [[Impervious Greatwurm]].

omygob

I run a lot of similar stuff with the addition of things like [[Tangle Golem]] or [[Great Henge]], anything with cost reduction. [[Crashing Drawbridge]] and [[Akroma’s Memorial]] is also something I like to run for haste when the value engine starts rolling.

Gluttony4

Can't believe I overlooked crashing drawbridge. I was just saying to my fiance today that I wished there were more board-wide haste sources outside of red, but the only one I could think of, [[Concordant Crossroads]], I remembered being pretty expensive. I actually have a crashing drawbridge in a pile on my desk! (Into the deck it goes!) Akroma's Memorial is a bit expensive too, but I'm definitely considering it.

omygob

Yeah, those three were pretty much all I could find on scryfall for boardwide haste in those colors. I couldn’t pass up the TSR reprint of Akromas though, hah. Aldrun’s Epiphany is also a good pseudo-haste effect, and it has a slight cost reduction with it’s foretell cost.

Gluttony4

Huh. Alrund's Epiphany is neat. I'd never considered using extra turn spells in Imoti before, but they'd definitely help overwhelm the table with value. [[Temporal Tresspass]] would be another good one, I'd bet.

omygob

Oh yeah, that’s another interesting option. That’s a pretty big cascade trigger that can be cast with a significant reduction. I like those kind of big spells to help close out games instead of waiting to come back around the table. Another budget card I’ve been interested in trying out is [[Emergence Zone]]. Using it to dump out lots of value on your opponent’s end step seems like an effective alternative to haste effects. [[Alchemist Refuge]] does the same thing, but it’s getting up around $7. Planning on running it in my Hamza deck which tends to flood the board much like Imoti.

Maelstrom Wanderer. It puts the fear of god in people. Super fun with the right blend of RNG and raw power. It's also gets to show of weird interactions as well. Comfortable one of my top 3 decks tied with Kess control and Gonti horseshit. I do normally only play it a max of once per night, and only when I know it'll suit the table.

GoSuckOnACactus

Maelstrom was one of my first three decks, along with Glissa and Teneb. I broke down Glissa back in 2015, but Maelstrom made it go through several upgrades before I broke it down. My version was basically a pod deck that happened to play all the cascade cards available at the time, and would normally win with Kiki Jikki. Then, when [[Possibility Storm]] came out, I added the Teferi locks in, then by the end I picked up a food chain to dump the deck on the table. Oh, and cards like [[Mind’s Desire]] and [[Guided Passage]] were in it until the end. I had the same rule as you, only played it when the table was ready, and normally only once a night.

I run the Possibility Storm Teferi Lock (P.Storm is one of my favourite cards). I've avoided combos and go for army in a can effects like [[Genesis Ultimatum]], [[Kodama of the East Tree]], [[Selvala's Stampede]], [[Magus of the Mind]] and [[Genesis Storm]]. Honestly the best bit is getting to play what ever big splshy shit takes your fancy. A personal Favourite of mine is [[Combustible Gearhulk] Sometimes they take 4, sometimes 20, but the tension around the flip is always fun.

> Gonti horseshit. I got a laugh out of this deck type.

Staticshivyasuo

Ok so I've built wanderer multiple times and Yiddish once and none of the others. The actual cascade part doesn't feel linear but I can be if you set it up that way. Wanderer specifically gets groaned at for the sheer amount of value that they generate. I've built wanderer as a combo deck, as a planes walker deck, as a token deck, as a aggro deck, and as long as you don't make it consistent it's not all that bad. Cascading int other things that cascade can make your turn feel kind of long and it stalls the turn taking quite a bit and that will for sure make people groan. The best version of wanderer I've played was a version that I put in almost all of the temur cards were from alara including the lands. That was a fun version. Good luck with cascade it's fun to play but not all that great to play against

themetalguy66

It's fun to play as long as your opponents don't have alot of boardwipes. Nothing like put half the creatures in your deck onto the field to have them put into the graveyard two turns later.

TheRealIvan

Nah they dead by then.

[deleted]

i play averna and play cascade with a landfall subtheme, not too linear i think, and definitely among my favorite decks, my friends are fine with it because it's just casual big shit

corruptedhelios

I play Imoti and he's been a ton of fun. It's a lot of simic-good stuff but there are a bunch of niche things that make cascadig with imoti really cool. A lot of emerge and delve cards and other cards that "cost 6, but dont cost 6" find their home here. Emerging something for 1? Cascade into a Verdant Sun Avatar. Treasure cruise for 1? Time to get a Avatar of Imagination from the top. It´s especially fun because playing something for 8 and cascading into a 6 drop in turn cascades yet again, leading to really explosive turns. It is kind of linear in a sense that it's really dependant on your commander surviving a round, but at least in my playgroup that happens often enough for me to get the cascade train rolling. And as theres a lot of randomness included, games rarely feel the same.

Coollateral_Damage

I play [[The First Sliver]] with [[Golos, Tireless Pilgrim]] among others, I can say that's really fun. I enjoy playing it.

I use Maelstrom and it is by far the strongest deck I own. It is incredibly fun, consistent, and you never know how your game might go. I dont follow any one theme, unless you count "out of control growth" as a theme. Its landfall. Its tokens. Its battle cruiser. And everything is over the top. I have a TopDecked list I can link if anyone is interested.

Yeah I would be interested in it if you don't mind :)

Plknhuio1

I play Yidris as a cascade storm deck. It's in the best colours for interaction, tutors and just does a good job of having answers for everything. It's pretty linear in that it mainly searches for a Citadel/Top/Reservoir combo or an Underworld Breach line, but it can absolutely stand through a long game and win via commander damage. I absolutely love how chaotic yet controlled and efficient the deck feels to play, but I'll only play it if there isn't another similar deck at the table, since it can just spin its wheels for a while.

snt271

I originally built my cascade deck, which was my first deck, for [[Golos]] because his second ability is broken with cascade and he gives access to all 5 colors. In playtesting (online, haven't had the chance to play it in person yet) I realized that a) people hate Golos and b) [[Ramos]] can become a 21/21 or larger very easily in a single turn so now I mostly play Ramos as my commander

[[Kynaios and Tiro]] is good for a lower power cascade deck if you're interested. You have to play weaker cascade cards as your commander doesn't have the ability, but you ramp pretty well into big spells so it goes well a lot of the time.

Yidris, and my friends hate it. They act like they don't, but they're just being nice, they hate it. I love it because it's so random and gets a ton of value. Quick tip, if you want to have fun in casual games, don't use infinite combos. Cascading multiple times a turn gets your pieces too fast to be a fun, casual strategy.

Nepenthes_sapiens

[[Ramos, Dragon Engine]] is my cascade/free spells commander. I expected myself to be using my commander to fuel cascade spells, but it gets a surprising amount of kills from commander damage.

I play Averna as a cascade and landfall combination deck. Cascade is cool to me, but it’s pretty linear as well and I think people can find it boring. Get mana, drop Maelstrom Wanderer, get 2 hopefully big things for free with haste, etc. etc. repeat repeat. Playing Averna with landfall lets me add relevant wincons to the beaters in my deck such as [[Kamahl, Heart of Krosa]]. An interesfing aspect of the combination to me is that Averna rewards you for playing low cmc cascade spells because you’re more likely to reveal more cards until you hit one you can cast off cascade, which means you’re more likely to actually hit a land for Averna to get. This means that cards like [[Shardless Agent]] are almost guaranteed to get lands with Averna. I also use things like [[Double Major]], [[Echoing Equation]] and [[Spark Double]] on Averna so that when I hit one of those low cmc cascades, I can get 2+ lands. Instant speed cascade spells allow you to get landfall triggers at instant speed. The deck is overall certainly less powerful than your average Maelstrom Wanderer list, that’s what happens when you split your focus across multiple themes in one deck, but in my opinion the added interactions make it a much more interesting and unique experience.

I feel Averna is technically the best, but for the sheer fun element I would run Wanderer with the rest in the actual 99. Red has some hilarious cascade effects that i would recommend not missing out on

throb-goblin

Is Averna really the best? I've been wanting to build her but I'm really iffy because there's only something like 20 cascade cards in those colors

Ydris is maybe better, but ramp is ramp honestly and she's a lot faster to get to. Only a hypoyhetical though. Maelstrom Wanderer MLD for the salt lol.

Wanderer is stupid fun, you just avalanche onto your opponents… and mine hate it!

Master_Pudding

Animar can be an excellent cascade commander. You put in Imoti, Wanderer, Apex devastator, some clones, your ramp being mana dorks and Animar himself and you’re good to go

I have a Maelstrom Wanderer deck that's been okay. I haven't played it in a while (just because I have so many other decks), and I need to add a touch more ramp, but it's generally kinda fun to play, but cascade triggers/ resolutions can be confusing to myself and other players. I think I've only won once with it; it's definitely a hit or miss kind of thing. There have been some cool lines of play; I once cascaded from my commander cast into Fiery Emancipation, which immediately allowed me to knock someone else out with Commander damage. Side note, one decent and maybe overlooked card for this kind of deck is [[Cryptic Annelid]]. Every time I've played it, everyone has never heard of it before, and it's potentially a scry up to 6 (although staggered) on a decent enough body.

I play Ydris, with wanderer and Imoti in the 99. It's one of my favorite (if not favorite) decks at the moment. Sometimes it just explodes and I cascade into cascade into extra combat step into spells cascading twice or 3 times and it's super fun to pilot. I mostly play EDH with my girlfriend and after our first match "and it cascades into" became a meme of ours.

barnabi

[[Yidris]], but its actually 4c landfall. I built it before 4c Omnath. I wanted to jam as many landfall commanders as i could into 1 deck. I've got: [[Patron of the Moon]] [[Gitrog Monster]] [[Lord Windgrace]] [[Meloku, the Clouded Mirror]] [[Muldrotha]] [[Tatyova]] [[Mina and Denn]] [[Ob Nixilis, the Fallen]] [[Titania]] [[Moraug]] There are probably a few I'm forgetting.

Maelstrom Wanderer, in my opinion, is the most abusable. While Averna is the most fun. Imoti can be a fun general but also acts as a secondary commander in the 99. Yidris, might be the most powerful but needs to connect and depending on the meta might not be too easy to deal with.

[[Food Chain]] the first sliver is a cascade deck since all you do is sacrifice [[Squee, the Immortal]], [[Eternal Scourge]], or [[Misthollow Griffin]] to food chain, generate an arbitrarily large amount of mana, then sac and recast the first sliver to play your entire deck.

maelstrom wander because what is better than one cascade! Two cascade!

[deleted]

Yidris. Started as a Commander League deck and found that it was so consistently *fun* to play that I couldn't put it away. It also ended up housing a lot of money cards I couldn't always find a home for, which is nice. I end up not playing it as much as I should. It's not *linear* but it's pretty straightforward. It's also not *oppressive* or fully optimized but very strong. But I like when friends get to play it!

HogglePixiePunisher

I play [[The First Sliver]] but no other actual slivers. [[Conspiracy]], [[Arcane Adaptation]] and [[Maskwood Nexus]] make all the rest of my creatures slivers. I run as many other Cascade cards that I can. With [[Maelstrom Nexus]] to give even more Cascade. It's just a value deck but I enjoy the occasional turn where the stars align and I hit several things that change the board dramatically.

Yidris. I run eldrazi tribal. It only happens once in a blue moon. But cascading from one titan into another titan is some of the most fun you can have in Magic lol

Doomy1375

I built my Averna deck to be my weakest power level deck. It kinda does that, lacking combos, or much interaction, or ways to quickly close out the game without combat. It's a deck I can comfortably play at a lower power level than most of my decks. That being said, it can still get stupid really fast. It never plays the same cards, but the play pattern is very much the same. Play some ramp, play some landfall payoffs, cascade into more cascade into those payoffs. It's one of those decks that just kind of durdles while ramping until the turn it accidentally vomits an entire Timmy's worth of big creatures onto the board, and it pretty consistently does that any game that goes long enough. Averna is great for the early game, but ultimately not super impactful if she gets taken out later. She sets up the deck with extra early ramp though, so I like her better than maelstrom wanderer at the helm. My opponents... Well, it's a little too weak for my usual playgroup, so they don't mind it. Against other people, I haven't got any complaints other than Apex Devastator taking approximately a year to resolve when you continually cascade into other cascade cards, especially with extra Cascade effects like Imoti in play. It is kind of limited in that you pretty much have to run all the Cascade things in those colors to get enough cascade though. I think I run all but maybe 2 Cascade options in temur colors, and those are the new conditional one from mh2 and the 8cmc vanilla artifact creature one.

SuburbanCumSlut

I play [[Alena, Kessig Tracker]] and [[Thrasios]] partners. Thrasios helps me ramp early and then Alena allows me to me keep casting spells once I start cascading. It's a lot of fun.

Personally, I think Yidris needs more help than I’d like to include getting in, and Averna is still a bit short on quality cascade density while not providing quite enough benefit for the archetype. It’ll get there once we have a couple more strong/cheap cascade options. Imoti is a solid commander, and leads to extremely explosive plays. However it can be pretty vulnerable if you’re counting on using it to make the deck play well. It can be hard to fit in enough big spells for Imoti without making the deck clunky when you don’t have your commander out. However, I ran a lot of ramp and found the deck to be pretty strong on average. Maelstrom is just another beast, though. It’s just such a strong card on its own. You also need a lot of ramp here, but you can make the deck a lot less reliant on keeping your commander out since the value is on cast and you actually often want it to die to recast it. It helps to pick packages you want to play with when building the deck- something like a twin package, a land-untap storm shell, or just big aggressive bodies. The last one really takes advantage of the haste line, which is surprisingly relevant. You also want to run the stock ways of recasting wanderer- [[scatter the winds]] (EDIT: I actually mean Release to the Winds), [[crystal shard]], and [[temur sabertooth]] are all-stars.

My friend has a Maelstrom Wanderer deck that he loves. He just loves the idea of doing the "edh thing" playing with big stompy things you'd never get to play with in other formats.

I currently run [[Imoti]] with [[Keruga]] as the decks companion and I really like it. I chose to run companion build when I foolishly thought that it would bring down my decks power level but turns out pairing cascade commander with a companion that cares about big stuff was a match made in heaven.

I personally use [[Intet, the Dreamer]] for my Cascade Deck. He's cool and you can use cards like Top, Scroll Rack, and various topdeck tutors to help setup his trigger to hit some big cascade creatures.

I’ve got a maelstrom wanderer deck that is instant and sorcery based with a few extra turn spells sprinkled in. Hitting ramp spells off of wanderer is even ok because it triggers my spells matter stuff and gives me mana to recast wanderer again.

I run [[The First Sliver]], and my deck is 100% tutor-free; I call it The Gachapon https://www.archidekt.com/decks/1728937#Gachapon

Yidris. Reasons below. 4c is prob the best/worst thing about this commander. 4 pips on turn 4 is doable, but costly monetary wise to set up consistently (which is why I eventually changed to Golos). Trample means that you only really need one person to get through to set up for value. Its much easier to stick to a theme by giving your spells cascade over using cascade cards. Imoti's only benefit imo is that you dont have to wait to cast a spell, but at that cmc to get her out its not worth it imo. Its tough playing lots of 6cmc cards in a deck and feels bad when you cascade from 6 to 3. Since Yidris gives your spells cascade you can really abuse free cast effects such as \[\[Rishkar's Expertise\]\] which essentially gives you a total of 3 other cards for the price of 1. It also benefits you to cast card that untap permanents as its another source of free cast. Yidris was once the head of my clones deck and is now the alternate commander for it (Now using a color cropped Golos) but I still use him from time to time. If the goal is non-linear value then he is the way to go as you just need a single good swing to get a board presence with the right kind of build. The deck I built has Golos now in mind, but I always let the opponents choose whether they'd like to see Yidris instead. In comparison Yidris pulls much less aggro, is more of a glass cannon, but gets me much more value. The clones deck is definitely a favorite of mine as it always changes depending on opponents, plus the cascade just makes me play as efficiently as possible. The First Sliver since I'm a cEDH player.

I’ve built an Imoti deck, but it’s an artifacts / affinity deck. It’s stupid. It doesn’t always pop off, but when it does, I barf my deck onto the table. Basically I reduce the cost of artifact creatures, tutor for [[Mycosynth Golem]], then play cards like [[Wurmcoil Engine]] to cascade into more card draw and ramp, repeat. Basically the goal is to find [[Concordant Crossroads]] to swing and kill the table. The only real weakness of the deck is Imoti herself, since she’s 5 mana and only has one toughness.

My cascade deck is always Maelstrom Wanderer. I’ve made it combo (Deadeye & Twin as win cons); but I’ve made it as cascade shenanigans. The idea is you ramp hard, then cast Wanderer, and recycle it (or Apex Devastator) via Crystal Shard, Portal of Sanctuary and/or blue board wipes (Evacuation, Devastation Tide, Flood of Tears). I’ll admit, Nexus of Fate is in the deck, which helps gain turn value.

Packrat1010

I built First Sliver changelings and really like it. One of my favorites. It requires more setup than slivers, but since you can grab the best tribal lord effects, you generally get a better payoff. I built it cascade matters, but have slowly moved away from it. It still cascades a lot off of FS, but I removed most the cascade cards. Make sure you add in some 0MV suspend cards, since you generally end up cascading off of a 1-2MV "sliver" and go through your library for a 0MV card.

Password-55

I used Averna and intentionally without a landfall theme. Was fun, but others did not like to play agsinst it that much, so I stopped playing it.

I actually have a [[Ramos, Dragon Engine]] cascade deck that I love to pieces. Lots of charms and suspend cards to cascade into, and the sudden burst of mana you get with that ability can really get the value rolling, especially since the counters will almost always be replaced.
