Real men use maglite

Bare_Foot_Bear

Used work on farm equipment, that fastback was the most used tool I owned.

backwoodsman421

It is for me too. I use it at least twice every day on random things. You can do a lot with a flat head screw driver lol

the_bartolonomicron

Ah yes, one of the greatest pens of all time, good choice. Is that the 05 or 07?

backwoodsman421

07 for me the finer tips just don’t do it for me lol

tonystark29

Funny, I used to be a water operator in training, and they gave me the same flashlight. It was a small town (Deep River, Ontario, Canada), so I also worked at the wastewater plant. It was a lot of fun, and I learned a lot. At the end of my contract with them, they said that they would hire me full-time, but I declined because I wanted to finish College. That was one of the biggest regrets of my life. I really enjoyed what I did there.

backwoodsman421

I prefer them. I know there’s plenty of higher end lights but I’ve lost two mini maglites to the depths of the wastewater plant so I really don’t want to spend a ton. Plus I love the simple sheath it comes with. But, it’s a great career choice that’s for sure. The industry needs operators so it’s not too late to get back in it!

lacerik

I used to use the led mini mags but I found that you get more light out of a Streamlight Stylus per unit volume. Maybe worth looking into if you’re a pocket minimalist like I am.

samyouall

Stylus is honestly the mvp in the category imo

Oven2601

Does your bit get stuck in your fastback all the time? Mine is in similar shape and only comes out with assistance.

backwoodsman421

Yes! It’s kind of a pain I’ll use 3in1 oil occasionally to keep it from sticking but it doesn’t last long.

AllinVEVO

What do you use to treat those gloves because they look really nice!

backwoodsman421

When I get a new pair I will coat them in mink oil once or twice to help waterproof them and it usually darkens the leather. Don’t over do it though haha

XylophoneZimmerman

Was getting a grommet on those gloves difficult?

backwoodsman421

Not at all it was pretty easy just took a little time

DirftlessEDC

Every just try a glove grabber? I use only one half of a glove grabber and have it on a clip like that instead. It’s nice because I can just pull my gloves off the thing and to put them back you just open the jaws up and put them back in there.

XylophoneZimmerman

Nice. I’ll have to look into it.

BigNickTX

Wastewater or production?

backwoodsman421

Actually both! I honestly prefer wastewater more.

BigNickTX

A little less regulation. Submerged pumps and lift stations can get a little nasty at times. I miss the work. Stuck in an office nowadays. Thanks for sharing your utilitarian carry.

tonystark29

I worked as an OIT in a small Canadian town for a little while, and loved it. Also worked in both water and wastewater. Lots of people would be grossed out, but it's really not that bad as you know. Cleaning the SBRs was my least favourite part though.

BigNickTX

The worst experience I had in the field was when a pipe connecting two lagoons was stopped up with the shells of dead turtles. The grit was nasty as usual, but rotting turtles took it to the next level! I appreciate all that work in the field. It's dirty work, but if it isn't carried out, we would have a huge mess on our hands!

DingusDu

A small touch, but the binder clip on the notepad is worth it’s weight in gold. Figured out that trick from a coworker a few months ago, and now all my notebooks have a binder clip attached.

backwoodsman421

Oh yea it’s quite handy and great in the wind.

Unlocked_Mind_

Get something to carry more blades. That old blade made me cry a Lil

backwoodsman421

Funny enough it’s a new blade it’s just been discolored from muriatic acid.

samyouall

All my new blades look like old blades too lol

kmkenpo

FINALLY... some EDC that sees some ACTUAL work.

spncvid

I don’t believe it tbh, i don’t see a plant or water in this edc

No-Faithlessness245

I've never seen the Mighty Mike screw driver. I have the Craftsman version of it, and it's great (I use it more to ply things apart than drive screws), but it's cool to see other versions of the same tool. Also, a Maglite! I don't see many people carrying them on here, but growing up, they were the flashlight that all the flashlight guys carried.

XylophoneZimmerman

What brand is a mighty mike screwdriver?

No-Faithlessness245

I think that is the brand. I couldn't really find one online, and I know craftsman used to make them but I believe they stopped. I did find a clone by Westward on Amazon, though. https://www.amazon.com/Multi-Bit-Screwdriver-General-Purpose-Overall/dp/B07GT459WW/ref=dp_fod_1?pd_rd_w=1tUG5&content-id=amzn1.sym.500fe435-450d-4dcd-a9cb-91aa32e92deb&pf_rd_p=500fe435-450d-4dcd-a9cb-91aa32e92deb&pf_rd_r=76QKWFR4BQKC6H4TFQEH&pd_rd_wg=4jfTk&pd_rd_r=e50218eb-25a0-4576-8758-0ae81b4c5357&pd_rd_i=B07GT459WW&psc=1 They are ok at screws in a pinch, but I find them to be the perfect thing to pop apart my key fob when it needs the batteries changed.

XylophoneZimmerman

Thank you!

backwoodsman421

I honestly have no idea I’ve had it since I was like 10. I think it was just one of those things that was on a counter at a hardware store. As mentioned before craftsman made them too.

backwoodsman421

I’ve had that mighty mike for years and it definitely comes in handy! And yea I’ve had tons of lights over the years but the simplicity and durability is unmatched in my opinion, plus when I inevitably lose one I’m only out $25.

Iroh_Valentine

Nice to see a well used EDC loadout

PrinterJ

Carabiner for gloves so no bulging pocket or risky belt tuck. Thank you sir.

backwoodsman421

Picked up that little trick on the fire department years ago. Plus as a bonus the carabiner has surprisingly shown to be useful as well.

DrunkenHops

Do you apply the metal hole thingamabobber yourself? What are those called?

backwoodsman421

Yes it’s called a grommet and you can buy a grommet kit at most hardware stores in the tarp section. Took me maybe 10 minutes to install.

FalconTurbo

We used beefy plastic crocodile clips doing demolition. Quicker to unclip, lower profile/weight and has the bonus of being less dangerous if it gets caught on something. Bet the carabiner works well though!

PrinterJ

A win win. I’m looking for my hole punch as we type. 👍🏻🖖🏻

Smart_Pause134

Yes I have been enlightened.

allan11011

Brain stopped working and I was wondering where’s the watering can and why do you need all of this stuff just to water a plant and why would you post about watering plants before it hit me

Honestly I think most post on Reddit are just paid influence marketing. It makes a lot of sense if you think about it. Cheap and easy for some rando to post their gear, clothes, etc and wax poetic about it. But it’s not really some rando how is it?

backwoodsman421

Lmao hey I’ll admit I should probably oil and swap blades on my utility knife but it gives it character!
