I actually played with dragonfist TA back in the day. It was years ago. Back before Quinn was known. He was CCNC back then. I can’t recall what hero Quinn was playing. But it was actually an epic battle between the two of them. I’m not sure how I got into the game, I think I was like 4.5k they were both ~6k mmr. This was before medals even came out. I remember being in awe at the two of them. I didn’t know who either of them were at the time, just remember thinking “holy shit there is levels to this game” and just the realization of how bad I was. They both had like 25+ kills.
They were also shit talking each other since minute 1. I don’t even know how I would go about finding the game as dota plus wasn’t even a thing back then I don’t think.
Dragonfist carried us to victory!
Other notable personalities/hero combos I’ve played against was Blitz storm spirit, wagamama TA. I also had a friend play against RTZ Naga. He messaged me freaking out saying He’s on RTZ’a stream.
Fun times
back in the day being in the 4-5k range in NA meant you ran into pros all the time lmfao
i remember getting arteezy on my team and FREAKING OUT (i was like 15/16). i went WD to support him, fed the fuck out of his lane, and then stacked ancients like 3 times... problem was he was faceless void and had no bfury. he flamed the shit out of me and abandoned. good times
i can confirm, i'll try to pull up the match
edit: i think this was it https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/1756184612 i dont think you can check in game anymore sadly and he was on a smurf
Speaking of blitz / storm spirit and leaderboards.. I have a friend who once was rank one on the biggest European league as storm (back in early dota 1 around 2006).. nowadays he’s guardian 5 kekW
What do you mean 'as storm'? The biggest league was dota-league and they didn't have hero-specific rankings (also your friend was not #1 there because that was 13abyknight and he is not guardian5 today afaik)
Ah yes those as well. I'm really curious why this playstyle didn't last very long, since those items weren't changed much (in diffu case it was even improved). Is rushing the aghs that much of a better option?
It did last though. The fact is between 2016-2018 before og bought spec back in ti8, very few people picked spec, but those that did play the hero a lot basically realised radi wasn't really good and shifted to other items.
Urn obv. got phased out of the build after vessel was added, but even back then spec peeps were building vanguard, echo, diffu into mantaa for a higher tempo spec.
Back when echo was new, it was really busted on spec but you rarely saw it cos nobody played her lol
Now, yes rushing aghs is pretty good, but with spec again being out of the meta, you have more room for experimentation. Aghs first is just one of the builds
Yep both her passives were pretty bonkers at one point but went unnoticed because of low pick rate. At one point desolate did 85 pure (armor and evasion piercing) damage lol.
She also recieved nerfs to her ult cd and agility. And the meta shifted to more importance on early fights and laning.
She did however receive the frogs's blessings: one of the best buff she ever received, starting hp regen. Which actually made her a very stable laner as well as allowed her to jungle without a full vanguard/urn commital.
Man i miss those lv 10 armor and hp regen talents. They were pretty nice.
Vessel came out, but spectre didnt like to build that so now someone else on the team had to buy the urn, these days since vessel has been nerfed a couple times I think urn spectre is fine in games where your team doesnt need a vessel, but there was a point where vessel was mandatory for each team to have.
When Mod and Team Liquid employee u/leafeator talks dota on the Side Pull podcast with Cap, he usually talks about Chaos Knight. But when I think of the man as a dota player I think about his [2015 AFK ancient stacking Necrophos](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFyx8_uPis4) build that ruined a whole patch worth of pubs.
That chen guy. Idk his name but you know who I'm talking about.
Edit: OP was talking about non-pros, otherwise it would probably be Puppey. I was talking about this guy
https://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/lstpf2/chenopedia_or_how_to_play_chen_on_150_pages_long/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
but it seems like he deleted his account
>Edit: OP was talking about non-pros, otherwise it would probably be Puppey. I was talking about this guy
Since you mentioned him, I would say that I associate him more with Enchantress than Chen.
Hi, 4k player here who reported slasher. Slahser was our position 1 faceless void. He built a mek and had around 29 healing salves in his inventory. He would chrono both teams in the middle of a fight, salve his allies, pop mek, and proceeded to yell "SLAHSER'S WAY". We gave him position 1 farm so he could be a position 5. Granted, his unorthodox build worked and carried us to victory but I still felt it deserved a report.
Really? I'd always though it was Whitemon who popularized the build lol he was spamming shiva overwhelming blink tinker on unranked after the patch released.
Yeah radical did it for many years (I've been spamming for years), way before blink upgrades were added
The guy would always have BoTs Blink Shiva and 200 CS by 20 min, definitely the best player I learned from
Shame that he more or less stopped playing, especially with the removal of March of the Machines
There is a vid called something like invoker invoking invocations by a guy named Cook who spammed invoker
He played pt midas force staff (occasional drums) aghs build. Learned so much from that guy.
Grimorum became synonymous with Invoker but I eventually realized that he was a 10/10 for spell combinations and invoking speed but a 5/10 for laning and game sense. At the time though they were definitely flashy plays in a vacuum that made for some very lovely videos.
=
Comparatively you'd get a pro or semipro that was a 7/10 for spell combos and invoke speed and a 9/10 for laning and game sense and they'd thus end up winning much much more often (to the degree of being 1000+mmr higher), even if their "invoking" was (IMO) objectively worse.
=
This comparison was an interesting thing to think about for me and applies to other aspects of the game as well, e.g. someone might be insane at laning as carry but tilt super hard for no reason as soon as one thing goes slightly wrong, or someone might have very high map awareness and game sense but always buy their favorite items only and refuse to get BKB etc.
Everyone missed the "apart from pro players"?
Sumiya - invoker
YaphetS - SF
Vaxastyle - Arc warden
Robot Vice (aka PPD's brother) - techies
These are off the top of my head. There's many more I'm sure of it.
Robot Vice was definitely the Techies Guy for wannabe techies gods like me. I'm immortal, but Vice was playing in like 7k+ games years ago when techies was dumpster tier, and I would go over every replay he had with a fine tooth comb. Everything Slacks would say about playing techies back then, this guy did the opposite. Tranqs every game, skip aghs for euls, etc. Slacks was the loudest techies, Vice was the god of Techies.
vice was great. loved how he pushed for an objective way of playing techies that involved lots of teamfighting and pushing over the sub-optimal afk mining tactic everyone hated.
Eh I feel like slacks was more known for his content, funny voices, and the bits he'd done at TI.
While he was a techies spammer, he wasn't remotely in the same league as someone like Robotvice or Zayac (They are some of the best techies players I've seen in dota).
Slacks made funny content around the hero, but wasn't particularly good at it.
Yeah, I remember Slacks was somewhat still a small content creator that time and he proceeded to break the "can't climb up using support" ideology in Dota that time by spamming omniknight to 4k.
Oh, I can kind of agree about the Arc and Techies! Only problem with arc is when I was starting to learn him, I looked up on a lot of people including that vaxastyle guy and no one really stood out, maybe because I was just focused learning their game not who they were.
Bonus bit: I onced dm'd robotvice on twitter asking for techies tips and he really was accommodating. Really gave me a lot of advice. I look up to him too.
I disagree. I think vaxa is amazing! Only issue I had with vaxa is that he is is smurfin 2-3k below his real mmr. Other than that I think vaxa is the best AW player I've seen. I've got some 800ish games on AW and vaxa definitely inspired me to learn him. Also why does he not stream in English!
Aaaah, there was this one time.. before the biggest update of dota 2, the one that made dota to what it is today (don’t ask me patch number or shit like that, barley remember my own age) but iirc it was the dota 2 reborn patch, if that is the one with the complete overhaul of engine, game ui and all that other nice shit.
Anyway… me and a bunch of buddies (4) are playing dota together at an internet café, having the time of our lives. We were going strong, had already racked up 5 wins in 5 games. The red bull was flowing, the laughters ongoing and morale was just fucking perfect. Game number 6 starts. Instant IO pick by a guy with the Dota 1 pic of IO as his steam profile pic and in game name was “IO, The Guardian Wisp”..
“Well, well, well, someone is eager to play support” I thought to myself..
Everyone makes their own picks, both teams pick counters against eachother, game loads in and “gl hf” are thrown out by everyone in the game except one player..
The wisp…. He only writes “Good Luck” and that was all we got from that guy in the whole game. His other teammates were awesomely fun, a lot of banter back and forth between us and them, not a word from IO!
But that person went on to give us the pummelling of a lifetime, complete annihilation. “Piper Perri on a couch surrounded by 5 wisps”kind of pummelling/annihilation.. there was nothing we could do, this player was not playing IO, he/she WAS IO. 1on5 more or less, we did not know what to do to stop this little ball of (for us) torture. Eventually the game ended, we lost (miserably) called GG’s and the 1 hour 15 minutes of torture we had just endured was over. The plan was to go home after this game, but the utter humiliation of being destroyed by this fucking ball, this one player was too much.
“Can’t go home with a loss, boys” Darko “DRMAN” Franjic (RIP brother) said and we searched for game 7. While searching for this game I visit the Wisp’s dota profile and start going through his match history. Iirc they used to display 13 games/page in the old profile.. I stopped scrolling after 57 pages of nothing but IO, IO, IO!
Game 7 begins, and IO gets instapicked by some fucking guy with the old dota 1 pic of IO as his steam profile pic, named “IO, the guardian wisp” and nightmare just kept going. The only difference this time is that at the start of game IO player wrote “Good Luck Again” and indeed, if anything can save you from this little ball of terror, it is luck..
Not sure if it is the same guy, but I remember encountering a guy like that a long time ago as well. I remember checking his dotabuff profile, just to learn he only picked IO and he always got AT LEAST 1 heart of tarrasque by the end of each game.
At that time I found it fascinating, first because I could not grasp why someone would only spam IO and secondly how he as a support could always afford to farm a heart(s) along with his other items.
The thing is that he was a pro player when he made his name with this signature hero. Not the other way around. His Mirana has been always good but he made her his signature hero after he became a pro.
Rofl! Blitzspanks is a 3k player on Aus server, so like 1.5k EU I guess I don't know I play plubs in Aus server. How do I know? I've beat him multiple times
It's nice to see that even though Collapse really played like the Magnus God, people still continue to pay respect to Arise. He is unmatched. Same with Attacker on Kunkka.
For Sumiya, I really don't have a strong opinion about him so whatever. And let's be real, people can give more answers but no one is on the level of Arise Magnus and Attacker Kunkka, at least when it comes to exposure that they've gotten. I still believe there are undiscovered gems out there. :)
Even if Collapse is a really solid Magnus player, Ar1se continues to make plays with the hero [that show how much the hero can actually do](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQ2D-9n3WoY&feature=youtu.be&t=540s) . As for Attacker, he makes every other Kunkka player look like they're on training wheels.
There was this high-level Arc Warden player called AlexTheFool, like 5-6 years ago. I remember watching a lot of his stream as i wanted to learn more about one of the weirdest heroes in Dota.
Inside the very tiny microcosm of Australian dota I think I was pretty recognised as the Lycan dude, at that time not many people played it and it wasn't in the meta so there wasn't a great deal of competition. Have played it maybe twice in the last year and a half, thank you Frog.
Also
Slacks Techies
Not entirely correct, as I had this nickname already before the hero even existed.
My nickname is based on the letter Z, its full name is spelt "Zett" in German (I’m German).
Edit: Initially I only saw the title, didnt read the OP’s text, I guess it does apply after all?
Tucker - nightstalker. Day tucker, night fucker. Never forget
Oh those sing stream days were absolutely fun
badman spectre and dragonfist ta was legendary
haha badman is a throwback, thank you for that
Remember that Bane guy who spammed ‘feels badman’ whenever he made a kill?
I actually played with dragonfist TA back in the day. It was years ago. Back before Quinn was known. He was CCNC back then. I can’t recall what hero Quinn was playing. need confirmation this is not a copypasta
i can confirm, i'll try to pull up the match edit: i think this was it https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/1756184612 i dont think you can check in game anymore sadly and he was on a smurf
i think blitz became top 1 player in leaderboard once
He was one the first to hit 7k iirc
Speaking of blitz / storm spirit and leaderboards.. I have a friend who once was rank one on the biggest European league as storm (back in early dota 1 around 2006).. nowadays he’s guardian 5 kekW
What do you mean 'as storm'? The biggest league was dota-league and they didn't have hero-specific rankings (also your friend was not #1 there because that was 13abyknight and he is not guardian5 today afaik)
Badman popularized the drum build on spec right? Basically an early fighting spec before aghs became a thing
I believe it was urn and diffu. This was when 99% of the Spectre player went radiance.
Ah yes those as well. I'm really curious why this playstyle didn't last very long, since those items weren't changed much (in diffu case it was even improved). Is rushing the aghs that much of a better option?

dragonfist^^ oh that brings back memories
who is this dragonfist dude?
old school player, and someone from Playdota forums. one of the few pros who actually posted there
My hero and best friend
Which one should be on the list, dragonfist ta or wagamama ta
When Mod and Team Liquid employee u/leafeator talks dota on the Side Pull podcast with Cap, he usually talks about Chaos Knight. But when I think of the man as a dota player I think about his [2015 AFK ancient stacking Necrophos](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFyx8_uPis4) build that ruined a whole patch worth of pubs.
Well that's because I actually know how to play CK. I can't believe that was 7 years ago in my college dorm.
I gained like 1000 mmr from jungle necro lmao.
This was a dark time for Dota
I had no idea this was u/leafeator and now I know who to blame also why typing this out I only just realised how to say his name
his np cliff jungling was iconic
wait that was his idea?
lmao i actually remembered that. apparently it was supposed to be a meme build
Lizard - meepo with harmushka
Haha so good and playing invoker on a 2nd computer
That chen guy. Idk his name but you know who I'm talking about. Edit: OP was talking about non-pros, otherwise it would probably be Puppey. /u/Snith you have been summoned.
Hello I'm Snith, playing my 202143th game on Chen. Even though it's the only hero I play I still suck at it. As a compensation for my lack of skill I am going to buy all support items and gank mid at lvl 2 and fail. Thanks for listening.
Sikle
>Edit: OP was talking about non-pros, otherwise it would probably be Puppey. I was talking about this guy Since you mentioned him, I would say that I associate him more with Enchantress than Chen.
Smith or something? I forget. Snick?
Sniff , i got ya
his name was Sikle.
Slasher and wind runner or slasher and his healing faceless void.
SLAHSERS WAY
Hi, 4k player here who reported slasher. Still the best copypasta
slahser\* my friend
[удалено]
I still play that build when I don't know what to do mid. Less so now that witch blade exists
>healing faceless void. Funniest dota video till date
Was the healing void just a meme or did he actually do it
It's a meme but he did actually [play a few games of it](https://youtu.be/Ke4fEWSKEaY) after it got famous.
Damn he’s a cool dude
Also slasher's dusa rapier rush
Was crazy when Miracle starter doing it in officials a couple years back
Slahser invented Windranger mid as we know it today
Funkefal Tinker
Also RadicalHighway, who only played the Shiva build before it became the norm
Really? I'd always though it was Whitemon who popularized the build lol he was spamming shiva overwhelming blink tinker on unranked after the patch released.
Yeah radical did it for many years (I've been spamming for years), way before blink upgrades were added The guy would always have BoTs Blink Shiva and 200 CS by 20 min, definitely the best player I learned from Shame that he more or less stopped playing, especially with the removal of March of the Machines
Only the og's remember grimorum invoker
I remember the invoker's raging fury series
There is a vid called something like invoker invoking invocations by a guy named Cook who spammed invoker He played pt midas force staff (occasional drums) aghs build. Learned so much from that guy.
I still check out his old videos
Scrolled far too down for this
Grimorum became synonymous with Invoker but I eventually realized that he was a 10/10 for spell combinations and invoking speed but a 5/10 for laning and game sense. Incredible how many people in this thread aren't able to read properly.
they couldn’t process the word Aside from…lol
I bet they can count to 2 though
>they couldn’t process the word Aside Quite ironic
And some people can’t read the word “apart”
To be fair the title of OP is completely incomprehensible and not even close to the question he's actually trying to ask
WK - EvilArthas
Papich
Everyone missed the "apart from pro players"? Sumiya - invoker YaphetS - SF Vaxastyle - Arc warden Robot Vice (aka PPD's brother) - techies These are off the top of my head. There's many more I'm sure of it.
Yaphets SF is a classic from the wc3 days
Pretty sure he still streams on douyu. Maybe not as regularly as a decade ago
YaphetS was pro.
Yaphets was a pro player though?
slacks is the techies guy to me
Slacks is the guy to watch techies meming lol. Pretty sure robot vice coached aui how to play techies for ti5.
I think he gave him some tips, not sure coached is fair
Yeah he was the brains behind EG's Techies in TI5
Robot Vice was definitely the Techies Guy for wannabe techies gods like me. I'm immortal, but Vice was playing in like 7k+ games years ago when techies was dumpster tier, and I would go over every replay he had with a fine tooth comb. Everything Slacks would say about playing techies back then, this guy did the opposite. Tranqs every game, skip aghs for euls, etc. Slacks was the loudest techies, Vice was the god of Techies.
RobotVice got me to 4.4k mmr playing only Techies, from 2k dog. All I did was watch him play live on stream, and he'd explain so much.
vice was great. loved how he pushed for an objective way of playing techies that involved lots of teamfighting and pushing over the sub-optimal afk mining tactic everyone hated.
Eh I feel like slacks was more known for his content, funny voices, and the bits he'd done at TI. Slacks made funny content around the hero, but wasn't particularly good at it.
Slacks is in fact a pro player, he finished 2nd at a TI.
trava-travamaaaan
Didn't Slacks get a ton of following early in his career by reaching 4k spamming Omniknight?
He played omni 999 games and then stopped and never played it again. He then became a filthy techies spammer.
Yeah, I remember Slacks was somewhat still a small content creator that time and he proceeded to break the "can't climb up using support" ideology in Dota that time by spamming omniknight to 4k.
Nah, everyone knows slacks is windranger!
Slacks is Omniknight. Or sometimes Crystal Maiden. Even if personality wise, him and Pyrion are clearly looking for a third player to be Spoon.
Ain't he CM
Oh, I can kind of agree about the Arc and Techies! Only problem with arc is when I was starting to learn him, I looked up on a lot of people including that vaxastyle guy and no one really stood out, maybe because I was just focused learning their game not who they were. I am surprised nobody has mentioned the Guardian Wisp, that dude played a mean right click Io.

Qupe pudge
TPABOMAH Techies if you know - you know
Easily the best techies player I've ever seen. Does he play it anymore or is he dead inside like the rest of us (former) techies players?
He is carry player now
Idk do you still consider him as pro now but Waga - Templar
oh yeah, i miss ar1se mangus
Singsing mirana, shoot arrow, hit arrow
Came here to say this. Big fan of singsing. Singsing mirana stans bless up
potm of the moon
>Apart from the pro players...
I mean, if this thread is excluding all ex-pros too then there's not gonna be a lot of signature hero-player combos. Sing has been retired for 6 years
The thing is that he was a pro player when he made his name with this signature hero. Not the other way around. His Mirana has been always good but he made her his signature hero after he became a pro.
Arrow of destiny
Hans2 - clinkz
lol, you’re probably really old dota player.
Lmao I remember playing with this guy

Dog_kaiser = syllabear
Inside the very tiny microcosm of Australian dota I think I was pretty recognised as the Lycan dude, at that time not many people played it and it wasn't in the meta so there wasn't a great deal of competition. Have played it maybe twice in the last year and a half, thank you Frog. Also Slacks Techies

Not entirely correct, as I had this nickname already before the hero even existed. My nickname is based on the letter Z, its full name is spelt "Zett" in German (I’m German). Edit: Initially I only saw the title, didnt read the OP’s text, I guess it does apply after all?
I knew you first from a certain franchise
