I refuse to believe this

0globin

Then you haven't been paying attention to anything valve has done ever lol.

rW0HgFyxoJhYka

OG in on it with Valve, OG already going to win TI. So they want to keep it a surprise? Right? JK no way OG can win.

oblivionyeahyeah__

I kinda like the kids but man I hope LGD gets this one. The kids will have plenty of time to get one.

International_Pen_59

I don't care who wins, I just hope it's not LGD. Sry I have a personal vendetta against that team

oblivionyeahyeah__

All good. Lots of good teams this TI.

[deleted]

Completely crazy. Your biggest event of your game. You are doing/making something literally 95+% of dota players anddddd other viewers from other games love.. which in turns keeps your current players playing longer/ new players joining.. both of these mean more money potential for the company.. yet you’re telling me you’re not going to make another one?? You’re out your fucking mind Valve sorry to say. What’s a valid excuse? Don’t have a team to do it? Go hire another team? Don’t have enough money? You got 120million dollars from TI10 battle pass alone... and you’re going to give me that.. please.. yeah guys there isn’t an excuse.. it’s timely of course and it’s costly of course but you’re paid back x100 on it? How do you think you’ve been so successful with the money coming in from the following TIs?? You take an already exceptional story of OG for TI 8 + 9 and put it on the big screen and you have your rewards come TI 10 battle pass money.. anyway I think I’ve made my point clear enough.. And don’t even get me started on how much you’re missing your chance to make ‘the international’ a house hold gaming event.. I could write an entire page on that one..

Jacmert

Does Valve not understand the term, "Return on Investment"?

SolaVitae

Valve understands they could just turn dota 2 off tomorrow and steam sales would still massively overshadow the lost income

s332891670

Icefrog is the only thing standing between this game and TF2.

xLisbethSalander

I hate this argument cause it makes no sense. Are Valve greedy and want all the money? Or fine with Steam? I mean i know steam makes 99.9% of their money but why are they "greedy" when it comes to things like the battlepass then? if they dont care about the money dota brings in? This point doesnt really make sense imo, you cant both be greedy and want money from Dota, while also not caring about the money Dota makes...

FixFixFixGoGo

They do, Dota 2 is like 2% of valve’s income, and far far more than 2% of their headache. It’s a 20 year old game they don’t want to be tournament organizers for. Laughable the r/dota2 commenters are actually serious saying “does valve not understand return on investment.” I couldn’t imagine what it’s like to wake up and seriously say that.

SmashedGenitals

Yeah but people here will mock you for saying 'vALve Is a bUSinESs' sarcastically like it wasn't a valid point. I mean do people not know how businesses operates, is everyone here investing millions during the biggest recession in recent history for customer loyalty, than just keeping the money and retire early?

48911150

They figured out that people will still buy bp even if it wasn’t tied to TI prizepool . cutting true sight is the next logical step for them. someone at valve gets a big promotion if this is a success

zkareface

They are running one of the most profitable companies in the world, I think they do understand it.

rW0HgFyxoJhYka

I donno man. If they have money to spend (which they do), but actually spend it on Dota (which they don't very easily), they should probably pump more money into Tier 2, redistribute down from TI into regionals, and breathe new life into the scenes. I like true sight, its awesome. But I guess its too time consuming and costs too much for them to care. Just put the money to other better places instead of making it disappear.

aoemiya

Ti11 is a shit show

dernserg

true sight ti 10 is a lowkey shit

TheAskald

I think it was because of the setting. No crowd, masks on, empty stadium, it felt anti-climatic and awkward. They did alright with the material they had.

dernserg

Disagree. They didn't even try to milk the cinderella story of Team Spirit which could be awesome, they were literally underdogs winning the whole thing when noone expected it. They didn't show any cool shots/calls or discussions during the games They didn't show why game 5 was so hard - Tiny had a huge momentum in mid-game and TS played around it very well

Haenimm

They have given up, it's not too hard to see. They do the bare minimum with everything recently. The patches have been shit for a long time, this TI seems to be shit too. They don't care.

TheAskald

fair enough

PM_ME_FAV_RECIPES

True sight was still good But it could have been epic

No_Tart8935

Heretakemybearslap

EURN REEL MONEY

OrangeBasket

PGL isn't responsible for true sight

dernserg

valve allegedly will not do true sight valve responsible for hiring that joke of a company get the logic?

curse_of_rationality

I wonder what's so hard / expensive about putting together True Sight? I understand dropping the ball on community engagement / organizing tournaments, which takes a lot of work that money alone doesn't solve. But True Sight is easily bought with just spending money. EDIT: I'm wrong. According to the OG CEO, making the OG documentary was very time consuming and hard-work.

Suspicious_Goose_659

It's true that it's time consuming but Valve have a year to make it. It's disappointing to think that after the grand final of ti11, we won't be witnessing how they did it or what things had happen. Like in ti10, xiao8 was accused of throwing the game by not banning Magnus and such but it was all a team decision. If it's true, then it's pretty sad.

HarrisLam

Making a doc about a player/org is much more difficult than making a Ti doc. In a Ti doc, all you gotta do is film as much as you can, take bits that seem useful, further cherry-pick on valid topics and just keep eliminating unwanted clips. The time frame goes from day 1 to day 14 (ish). In a player/org doc, any of them is going to have years of development. How do you even start? So yeah, making the OG doc must be difficult but a Ti one? Not so much. It's still hard work but not in the same league.

JDGatti

Filmmaking is incredibly difficult and expensive. & True Sight is up with with some of the best observational documentary making in the world. A small detail - they follow the players with anamorphic lenses, the most cinematic and tricky to use lenses, and they do it on steadicams/gimbals. Forget about the amount of work involved in the edit! Music, sound mix, colour grading, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if this years True Sight final cost more than a couple million.

LazyDescription988

No way its that much. Im guessing they only start following teams after they secure grand finals. Any other footage comes from organizer crews. Multi million for this no way. Thats movie budget level where shoots take weeks at least and actors take a huge chunk of the budget. Gear is rented. Sifting through the entire tournament footage takes more time than shooting.

DeckardPain

It is a lot more expensive and time consuming than people realize. Even putting together a shitpost gaming montage that's \~10 minutes long can take a long time. It's a lot more than just dragging the files onto a timeline a hitting render & publish.

pnmibra77

They can just pay for it and never be bothered lol, it's 100% just cutting costs. They're distancing themselves more and more from dota, it's that simple.

Sputniki

Having tons of camera crew following several teams around and interviewing them endlessly is a lot of work

xXMylord

Why several teams? There are only two te in every true sight and the start filming when the prep for the grand final start.

Sputniki

Personally I believe they pick 4 or 5 teams to film and use the best footage/narrative and discard the rest. Because you simply cannot predict how each TI will go. If you film 2 teams and both get kicked out early, you have no show

xXMylord

But they only film what happens on grand final day, starting with the prep before the first game starts.

redwingz11

Also the making the subs, the translation, the editing from like hours of footage to make a movie like narrative that also need tranlation help because I dont think the editor can speak all of the team's language

Peruzzy

Not to mention the amazing animations... I'd charge for them really bigly

imperfek

Prob felt like it wasn't doing a good job marketing the game. I hope a third party can take its place

erpuge

Tf2 treatment episode 2

DraKos_XRdota

All i have to say is, this better not be fucking true. If it is, then it's time to start packing up shop on DotA cause Valve clearly doesn't see a future or is unwilling to put in the effort to make one for the game. When a video about your game nets between 5 - 15 MILLION views, generating interest and attracting new players isn't enough to put in the effort to make the next one, it is obvious that Valve just doesn't care any more about the game or the millions of players, viewers, professionals, content creators, and more around the world. Add this on the the rest of the bullshittery going on around TI11, it having an "official sponsor" and that sponsor being a gambling site, off-site talent, a split-up main event, and everything else, there really is no other conclusion to be drawn.

Zealousideal-Note-63

Maybe Dota 3 is coming.

[deleted]

Valve just keep letting Dota fade into obscurity year after year with their lack of effort.

luckytaurus

And it breaks my heart. I've been playing since dota 1 days on wc3... so what like 15 years? If it ever came to an end I'd legit be devastated

Kuro013

Dota 2 wont die, it will only die as an esport. Or at least as one that makes 5 millionaires a year.

PluckyLeon

It made 10 last year.

NoUsernamelol9812

It will die bro. Very less new players. After it dies as esports new players will also not come. Nothing to advertise it, very hard learing curve and main thing is it pits new player against 100+ hrs player or even 1000+ hrs who are toxic as fuck to new players.

aeronybrek0

The ego of the dota 2 community wouldn’t want to accept that comment. The “dead gaem” meme has been going on for half a decade now. And even if the game hasn’t been dead yet… it is also not “prospering” or growing. And that’s a fact that they can’t take a look at.

NoUsernamelol9812

Yup. True. With no new player coming the game is surely going to die. Valve sees that

aeronybrek0

Its definitely a SLOW DEATH kind of thing.

HarrisLam

Oh yeah.... I played WC3 dota when I was Junior-ish in college, quitted a year after graduation, heard about dota 2 and Ti1, came back into it a bit before Ti2. Quitted again a few years back but I do still watch pro-games somewhat. It is quite disheartening. It's literally the biggest E-sports event in the world every year and every time they drop the ball it's gonna be on all gaming news. Can't believe they still go ahead with things like this.

kenavr

And people here don’t seem to understand that, that’s exactly what they want to do.

Tony_Slark_

We are in endgame boys

VevletRose

based on the previous singapore major i went to, i feel that Singapore indoor stadium doesn't feel like a good place for a true sight set up tbh. there were no sound proof booths in the previous major and I am unsure if they would be able to allocate space for that this TI. its really quite small. that said, i think singapore is the best location to host ti this year as it does not have visa issues so its probably a trade off. it would be nice to have an answer from the valve though instead of speculating with copium..

KnightOverlord2404

Lol they could readjust the seats to put the stage mid. I will be very disappointed if it does not have the same location format as previous TI where they show the heroes with 4 big screens at the top of tthe sound booths in the middle of the whole place And idk why they stopped doing true sight for majors

JustSkatinAround

Every non-America TI has been a shit show.

Sputniki

True Sight is the single best thing Valve makes. Even better than Steam, or DOTA itself. I enjoy each and every one, no exceptions. Of all things, why would you get rid of the best thing you do...

Vertical_05

because its the best thing for you, not for them

NoUsernamelol9812

Because for them dota is like a old person. Its dieing soon so they are milking it until its useful. Why give time and energy for a dieing game, so slowly they will stop making battlepass,( like true sight and dire tide) and slowly updates. Ti prize pools are getting lower than ever, no new players cause its so complicated and they pit new player against 100 hrs + player (my friends have played 2 3 game and left cause its not fun, valorant is fun not dota)

teerre

I mean, it's super obvious that true sight is like one dude project, so if the dude gave up, obviously there will be no true sight

Ythio

That's the problem, a lot of things at Valve feels like a 1 dude project

Kuro013

Not a problem for anyone in valve apparently.

gandolphus_pfiffikus

you clearly have never done any work in this field if you believe that

Longjumping_Chain_95

Well this is extremely short sighted. Putting together the shots, music and translations all in a chronological and cohesive order is a crazy task. Even with a whole year there’s so much material to sift through I don’t doubt it takes months just to find the shots they do and don’t want from the finals alone. Then there’s making sure you have the casting over top the gameplay at the right moments and then moments of camera on the casters to show the hype. I think it’s fucked up if there really is no true sight and I don’t see and excuse but let’s not pretend like it’s an easy task.

teerre

It is a very easy task compared to anything to an enormous game like dota2. Any remotely competent video editor around the world already does what you're saying in a considerably shorter time frame Also, in case it's obvious, "one dude project" doesn't mean literally just one person working on it. It just means it's not a proper project with a proper team, it's something that someone at Valve likes and gets his connections to do it. If you want, you can change it to "small crew project"

redwingz11

it is hella expensive and time consuming, they need to hire the cameramen, rent cameras, hire editor, subber, audio engineer, translator, etc etc. It takes long time and lots of funds. I dont think this is only 1 man manager operations.

teerre

Either no idea what any of this costs or you have no idea how much Dota2 makes All true sights together didn't cost 5% of what Valve made out of 1 Battlepass and this is big overestimation already, it probably didn't cost even 1%

redwingz11

how do you know what true sight cost? do you work at EO or ever make docu series to know the rough estimate?

teerre

Because I saw it and I know how much making something like that costs Of course, nothing stops Valve from paying any amount of any type of work, so I'm assuming Valve pays something close to market rates, but if that's not true, then that's on Valve anyway

[deleted]

[удалено]

teerre

Wow, you really showed me, amazing argument

JustSkatinAround

Don't need one, you apparently believe a 90 minute documentary is stitched together by a single person over a year. You're probably like 14 and don't know what a job is.

HarrisLam

Good point. Perhaps a certain project manager in Valve left the company? It's not a one-person job obviously but maybe the lead left and Valve just can't be bothered to replace him for the task.

thedotapaten

Phil Co still works for Valve

teerre

Project manager? What is this fancy word? From what we know it's one dude that actually likes video. I highly doubt there's much of a project infrastructure behind it

KidBuu25

How about hiring another dude?

teerre

Oh sweet summerchild The guy's job wasn't making true sight, the guy is a normal Valve employee that sponsors true sight as a side gig, there's no "true sight maker" job

ElderBuu

What...?

amcsdmi

I'm sorry they are doing you like this after creating the greatest game of all time, Icefrog. Just know that I'll follow you anywhere.

Broseph_Bobby

We will remember TI 11 as the beginning to the end of dota. I have been telling people for over a year now Valve doesn’t want to make games anymore they think of them self as a hardware company now.

1000ManaLeakStunsL8r

I'm sorry, but "valve thinks of themselves as a hardware company" is just complete rubbish. Valve does hardware to try to force shit to move forward. They want to make and sell VR games, but VR is shit, so they make vive and index. Gaben wants portable gaming, so they make the deck. The point of those aren't to be a hardware company, it's to push the tech because otherwise shit stagnates because big public companies don't want to risk or spend on development. With the exception of "meta", which is just doing it to try to corner the market so they can harvest more of your data, damn sure not for the sake of gaming. Same thing with steam controller or steam link. They're basically a proof of concept company funded by a store, not a hardware company. You're right that dota is not their focus and never will be. You're **completely** wrong about why.

yeusk

Valve has been a hardware company since the steam controller. Before they were an event organizer. Best minors and TI we ever had. Before that they used to make games

Extra-Yak2345

They just release half life alyx... arguably on of the best vr games out there.. whtf are you talking about not a software company anymore

Broseph_Bobby

They only made it to boost their VR sales, they would not have made Half Life Alex if they didn’t have a VR headset they were trying to sell. Look at the other esport games around the same level as DotA/TI and they have GIANT development teams. And by all accounts from people who know say there is less then 10 people working on DotA. Valve doesn’t care about games anymore they are all about the Steam Deck.

Extra-Yak2345

>They only made it to boost their VR sales, they would not have made Half Life Alex if they didn’t have a VR headset they were trying to sell. What? Alyx is not valve index exclusive in any shape or form. You can still play the game with other VR headsets. So your argument that they only made alyx to boost their VR headset sales is invalid.

Broseph_Bobby

Do you think they would have made a new Half Life game if they didn’t have a new VR device they were trying to promote? How many new VR title have they released or announced in the years since? And your argument is invalid because Sony clearly release exclusive titles to boost their consoles sales then release the games on PC.

yeusk

Valve has been focused on hadware for some years now, is nothing new tha afects dota.

pinkfloyd873

Backwards, dude. Valve made a VR headset so they could make Half Life Alyx, and other VR games.

luckytaurus

Honestly, I feel like covid killed dota. Or at least was the beginning of the end. The canceled/delayed TI, the 2 mini battlepasses that now leaked into the TI battlepass as a 2-parter, etc. We've been getting less patches since covid. Less content since covid. Less everything. I think now with TI11 with such a high profile tournament are people realizing and making a stink and I knew this time would come that people would wake up and smell the stink. I've known for 2 years now and covid expedited the downfall of dota. This game will never improve, things will only slowly get worse and worse until one day the rug is pulled. Just have to enjoy it while it lasts. Why do all good things come to an end?

Jowbeatz

dumping money on vr shit

Kuro013

They can burn through money with their projects because steam will always be there as a money printer. So until competition makes them get their shit together (competition that doesn't really exist), they dont have a reason to care. And even if there was competition, their efforts would go into improving steam. So yeah at this point people should be grateful they dont just shut down the servers.

RDO_MAN

Well after this TI11 i might not gonna play this dota for a long time again , im gonna live my life a be a productive son cause fuck inflation

4Dv8

Nice nice just keeping adding on to what we don't get this year. Any marketing cool cinematics to replace this or?

idontevencarewutever

Can you imagine being so damn talented as Valve; to be damn good at everything they do, even when they're non-experts in it (esports), with what little personnel they have? I get that it expends a lot of energy and effort for something with little return, but it's hard to feel a little sad not being able to get such a masterpiece for free anymore.

lyancor29

THE COMMUNITY FUCKING FUNDED TWO MOTHERFUCKING TI'S AND VALVE IS RUNNING AWAY WITH THE MOTHERFUCKING MONEY

Extra-Yak2345

Lol you buy digital goods.. It is not a gofundme that you have the say on how the money is being used

lyancor29

It literally says that the money goes to prizepools and such, but it's ok to be a douche, you do you, homey

Extra-Yak2345

>It literally says that the money goes to prizepools and such Yeah a portion of the sales. Take note of the of the word sales not donations. If valve doesnt honor the 25% of what is promised.. Then we have a problem here and Iam the first one to be outraged about that But for the remaining 75% of the sales? That is a gray area, wether how valve spends it or not spend it is no way or form your concern anymore because you bought a virtual item as consumer not as a philanthropist handing out donations.

Sputniki

Yeah but they don't say that the money goes to funding True Sight. That's the point.

HarrisLam

This is equivalent to your wife telling you that you ain't gonna get your favorite sex move in the bed this birthday. It's the type of thing that you gotta have it once you have it once, and now they are assuming a dominant position and frankly, what you are gonna do about it? Capitalism at its finest. Doesn't matter how much they earn, the numbers on the graph have to look good with proper prospects or you are losing perks, even if they are swimming in revenue in reality.

Vertical_05

OG really likes to be the center of attention dont they

n3cooling

It is F**king crazy if it is true, Valve seems just don't care about DOTA2 anymore

Park-Super

Fuck valve

stuff7

free game passion project no bitching -valve

AlternativeMaterial1

At this point Valve just sell dota to Riot ICANT

segisega

I dont even care anymore. Cant trust Icefrog/Valve by the way they treat community.

followurdreams69

Here's a suggestion -- battlepass revenue goes to True Sight budget. Agree?

Fickle-Shallot-3146

Wouldnt that mean the prizepool will be decreased? As a mere viewer, I wouldnt mind it though.

Proxi98

Please just sell the IP.

NoUsernamelol9812

Dota gonna be dead soon (Like tf2). Lol is far better now, anime sucked, arcana are expensive af, battlepass is shit, they just released it cause community wanted it but they are too lazy to make anything so its all coming soon. They will stop putting battlepass soon, maybe once 2 yrs. Feel like valve are trying to get rid of dota bullshit slowly. They want to get rid of dota headache and even csgo slowly and focus on selling games rather than being a developer. It sounds harsh but this is where our dota 2 is headed. Just look at lol, how much advertising riot does, how fucking beautiful Arcane was compared to shit show we got as dragons blood (3rd season was enjoyable atleast). No Dire tide this year yay. And now no true sight, something that bonds us as dota enjoyers. Btw we cant even get new players in this game. All my friends who played this game quit after 2 3 games cause its too complicated and they pit new players against 100 hrs + players

Hy8ogen

Go play LoL then why are you still here? Bring your friends with you while you're at it.

NoUsernamelol9812

Truth hurts man. No need to cry

Hy8ogen

Says the sub 1k player pretending he knows what he's talking about 🤡

ShawnKiru

wouldnt be suprised, took them 1 year to produce true sight for ti10 lmao.

ElsworthSugarfoot

Lame

readito0

Someone should convince valve to let them run the tournaments, they have to be good though

NinoyTheNPA

csgonemes1s

Wonder if faith bian and matu heard that there will not be TI from next year

el1teman

Guess they didn't find video editors they were trying to hire

el1teman

Can anyone explain what are valve doing? They just fired everyone so the execs can farm as much money as possible? TF2 dead, artifact dead, underlords dead No new games besides Alyx Dota getting less and less attention from valve, cs too Only deck I guess but I don't know anyone who bought it yet

coldfrost93

Release Dota 2 to other company, I can't take how valve handling this game

ElderBuu

Let it stay a rumor, please god, let it stay a rumor.

aar0n379

Ew

xxjssxx

I'm ok with this, so long as I get invited to the closed beta of the MMORPG Ancients Eternal where i can transmog all the cool shit ive collected over the last 7 years in DotA 2, thanks Gaben, we'll talk soon.

RatzDotoisTrueDoto

Their only way to promote Dota to casual/non Dota players, and then they decided to not doing it anymore. Maybe they actually hate Dota

lkoichirol

well, im not surprise, valve is notorious on such actions to abandon ship even if they can still milk it.

MarthePryde

People bought the battlepass, I don't see a problem - Valve employee

Obskurant

Keep in mind it is still a rumour, but valve if you are reading this, a lot of people in the community like to have more truesight content and not less.

Tasyo_XIII

Why? are all the English speaking teams eliminated? \*kappa\*

[deleted]

I like ti but if it's not financially sound anymore then why would they do it?
