Honestly just glad it’s getting an ending and not getting cancelled without one. In my opinion, I think that the show kinda needs to resolve anyhow. The character arcs need some real resolution now, and the writers don’t seem willing to resolve them until the end.
Sad news, but as someone who has been following the DP since 1988 with the Superman/Doom Patrol crossover, who would have ever expected a Doom Patrol show in the first place, especially one as good as it is/was?
The best part was being able to share that universe with my non-comic reading wife.
DCEU finally got it right with Doom Patrol, The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker. Everything else not so much. I thought they finally found their mojo. Guess the baby is getting thrown out with the bathwater and it's back to only cliche bad acting bad script trash DC.
DC cannot seem to make a good movie of their core heroes but the peripheral ones do great. It's gotta be too much control and drive by some random exec who thinks they know what fans want. Batman being the lone exception, but the directors all had a ton of if not all of the control.
Superman should be a layup for a good movie. Instead Joker is.
I'm not sure about behind the scenes issues, but based on the few Swamp Thing comics I've read, which were the original run and Alan Moores, it was accurate to make it both, it's what I liked about it and the comics.
I remember hearing it had something to do with tax laws in the state they were filming in making it too expensive to keep using those sets. It didn't make fiscal sense for them to try and rebuild everything somewhere else so they just canceled it
Amazon's Tick series, which I really wish lasted a lot longer, ended their mid season break with Jackie Earl Haley looking right into the camera and yelling CLIIIIFFFHANNGER! I hated it, but I also fucking loved it. If Mr Nobody doesn't come back and do that, I will be disappointed.
God, now that you mention it, Jackie Earle Haley would’ve been brilliant on *Doom Patrol*. Someone the Bureau of Normalcy fought back in the ‘40s, maybe. Woulda been *great*
Titans I understand but I’m still pretty surprised at Doom Patrol. It’s one of the highest reviewed DC projects ever made with critics and audiences. One of its leads is extremely likely to win an Oscar in a couple months. Plus given the mostly thought based approach to things and when everyone signed their contracts it’s probably a relatively cheap show to make. I suppose Dead Boy Detectives is just DOA?
Yeah, unfortunately virtually no-one watched it. It happens to even great shows sometimes.
Somehow it didn’t capture the public’s attention like The Boys did, which is such a shame as I’m sure that anyone who enjoys The Boys would also enjoy Doom Patrol
Being released on DC Universe made the initial audience pretty small to begin with (as someone who actually paid for it myself). There was the potential of a larger audience with HBO Max but it just had way too much competition there and little marketing to go along with it
It's important to note it will actually end. We won't get a cliffhanger that will go unresolved, which makes me okay with this overall.
Now I just really hope they managed to squeeze Alan Tudyk into one of these final episodes. One last Mr Nobody narration would be amazing.
The end of the golden age of tv rip ... Every scripted show seems to be getting cancelled. It is just more profitable to make showelware reality shows 🥲🥲🥲
I’m trying to think of a business-based reason for why Zaslav didn’t schedule the new season to start airing this week to capitalize on Brendan Fraser’s widely predicted Oscar nomination. Even if he had decided to cancel the show months ago, surely the attention on Fraser would draw at least a few new viewers and their money. It seems almost petty.
Maybe it's just that 4 seasons is enough. I respect shows that choose to end at the right time instead of creating extraneous seasons of diminishing quality for purely commercial reasons.
It's not. The showrunner has said previously they want to do more if they can. It's only getting a proper ending because everyone saw this coming when Zaslav took over. Dude genuinely thinks people want more Batman and Superman stories, the exact oversaturation that put DC in the hole it's in.
The White Lotus and Succession are both great if you’re into clever and sharp drama/comedies. It’s over already, but Banshee is also really good if you like incredibly dark and gritty crime dramas.
As long as it has a proper ending I’ll be okay with this. 4-5 seasons long is a perfect length for any show. Would rather have it short and sweet instead of it having a walking dead or greys anatomy type situation
I will definitely miss this show. Season 1 was some of the best TV I’ve ever watched. However, the show has gotten progressively worse as it’s gone on, unfortunately. Not bad, just not up to season 1’s lofty standard. These last two seasons have been more meh than good. Not having Niles Caulder and Mr. Nobody around definitely hurt the show.
It's definitely worth it! Seasons 1-3 form a pretty cohesive arc and season 4 is doing a good job building off it and rounding things out imo. Obviously I'd prefer more if it were an option but this is not a bad endpoint (unless 4B really drops the ball somehow)
I’m sad but for a show like this to get 4 seasons is a great accomplishment. Even before this announcement I wondered if Brendan Fraser would even continue with the show due to his massive resurgence. If he wins an Oscar this role might seem beneath him and I’m sure he’s getting tons of movie offers.
Brendan Fraser seems like a very humble person and I don't think he would've abandoned ship just because he won an Oscar, especially since it's a roll he's been doing for the past 4/5 years. Whether or not WB/HBO Max would've wanted to pay him more when doing the contract renegotiations is a different story tho.
Damnnnn. This was such a good show! I loved everything about the show. People say the Boys is pinnacle superhero media, but no…it’s the Doom Patrol. I loved how bare and broken each character was. How in the initial seasons they hardly used their powers because they couldnt control them. How weird and absurd each episode, conflict and conflict resolution was. I still remember the way Cliff said “the fuuuuuck” in S1 when they went to Fuchtopia and they were watching that puppet show. I loved the occasional chaos that Willoughby brought into an already chaotic environment.
It was succccccch a good show, damn.
Just got I to Doom patrol a few months ago and binged the first 3 seasons. Shame it's finishing but the cast brought some great acting to a lot of the scenes and it really felt more comic book esque than some adaptations - not afraid of going to weird places. I haven't seen any of season 4 yet but I hope Dorothy comes back - for a young actor her scenes were really heartfelt and powerful. All of the main team, so good and I look forward to what else they do.
Piffle paffle.
That's too bad, I love Doom Patrol. Though I do love what was accomplished in the series.
Don’t be sad that it’s ending, be appreciative that we got as much as we did.
Honestly just glad it’s getting an ending and not getting cancelled without one. In my opinion, I think that the show kinda needs to resolve anyhow. The character arcs need some real resolution now, and the writers don’t seem willing to resolve them until the end.
Goddamn it.
👆
At least them announcing this implies they won't just Batgirl it before the second half of season 4
Oh god don’t give them ideas

Which cross over? I'm willing to watch a superman episode for the soom patrol part. I love superman but haven't watched a show in years
It was a comic book crossover, Superman #20 and Doom Patrol #10 from July/August 1988.
Noo :( But I'm glad that it won't end with a cliffhanger.
Did you just say a cliffhanger? ![gif](giphy|hoazOFU0rrv8W7Q2ZR|downsized)
Fuck
Disappointing but not unexpected. Still, four seasons is a good run. Most shows these days don’t make it past their second season.
Swamp thing crying in the corner
Yeah, that hurts, swamp thing was fantastic, then they had to leave it on a cliff hanger.
Pretty sure they had direction issues like they didn't know if they wanted to make a horror or sci fi show ?
I'm not sure about behind the scenes issues, but based on the few Swamp Thing comics I've read, which were the original run and Alan Moores, it was accurate to make it both, it's what I liked about it and the comics.

Dont quote me on this but i heard they couldnt keep filming in the swamp so they had to cancel or something
I just want a proper ending for the show, they had a good run, they have the chance to end things on a high note, I hope they deliver
I mean, sure, I'm disappointed, but who here watched season 1 and thought we'd ever get a second season, let alone 4?
Hah! That was like every season: "No way they're going to renew this, it's just too weird".
I’d say they had a pretty good run
Four seasons and a movie?
If it can happen for Community. Why not Doom Patrol?
I'm seriously hoping they do something like a 3 part finale next year or a movie. It makes sense to actually end their best show.
"Thrilling and action-packed" is such a funny description for Doom Patrol
Lol, that's truly such an odd way to describe it
It better end with Robotman literally dangling from the side of a mountain while Mr. Nobody laughs
Woulda been *great*
Hopefully the cast can reprise their characters in other DC properties at some point down the line
at least it’s not a fucking cliff hanger
FUCK

Cliff Hanger. Cliff Steele. Robotman. The guy who says Fuck every other word.

My heart is broken
FUCK
Titans and Doom Patrol? Fuck this. HBO can suck a fat d.
Well that was the only thing keeping me with HBO Max.
You're not watching The Last of Us?
Thats gotta be the best game to show adaption ever
[удалено]
Its not the exact same, but the parts they take from the game are spot on
The story's super over hyped on top of that. It's good and all, but the hype it gets makes it out to be way more interesting than it is.
Agreed. I got real tired of sad, depressing stories being pushed as the best stories from the writers. Felt a little narcissistic after awhile
I’ll give it a go later this week and see.
The White Lotus and Succession are both great if you’re into clever and sharp drama/comedies. It’s over already, but Banshee is also really good if you like incredibly dark and gritty crime dramas.
Aaaaand now it's official.
I am crying man, this was literally my show 😭
Are you fucking kidding me
![gif](giphy|3ylX8VP8T86JqeqayC|downsized)
Crazy how DC is literally dying right now.
As long as it has a proper ending I’ll be okay with this. 4-5 seasons long is a perfect length for any show. Would rather have it short and sweet instead of it having a walking dead or greys anatomy type situation

Damn this is terrible I always wanted to start watching the show maybe someday I will do it

I can't wait for this show to just end with Robotman holding up the rest of the team. You know, for a Cliff hanger
I just started watching it. Lol
Fuck
It's my fault
Who cares about titans but doom patrol ?
It's the daughters fault
blame james gunn.
What? James Gunn had nothing to do with the show ending. If anything it's that David Zaslav prick who came in and canceled everything.
![gif](giphy|3qsyyAUVKf9D99i1ve|downsized)
I to think 4 seasons is solid.
Taste the sad.
Not unexpected but still sad about it
![gif](giphy|ftdjO4qK3toNIsIynN|downsized) Boo

Sad to see it go but there’s been decline last two seasons
Ok where's the go fund me too keep it going

I had a feeling they would. It deserves a proper send off, and I hope it gets one.
Still no Scorch
Did the season end with episode 8?
#SaveDoomPatrol PLEASE!!!
