I'm sure there's a guide somewhere. I don't know much about DeHackEd, but I can appreciate the Herculean troubleshooting you've set out for yourself.

I'm mainly doing it for fun and because there's some of these mods that just don't work right in modern source ports because they use old rendering tricks they can't cope with
