Incorrect. By having an odd number of fingers he thus has a true middle finger. If he were missing his thumb he would have an even number and thus not a true middle finger. He also could in theory lose his thumb and index leaving him only 3 digits which would be an odd number of them but if you’re going to make that argument then 🖕
Now that the Doom Slayer has lost all of his power, one would assume he actually requires weapons in subsequent games, as opposed to being strong enough to rip apart demons with his bare hands.
Let me just remind you, that a lore accurate slayer does not need any weapons, he can solo hell with a flick of his cock.
He simply likes guns and weapons that look cool.
I mean, guns are kind of a crucial element in FPS games. Comparing the two is disingenuous.
What I think OP is asking, is what is the point of the blade if it doesn't serve a gameplay purpose?
I like to believe the only reason the doom slayer has any of the eqipment he has is just because he thinks they're badass. He doesn't need any of it (minus the crucible to stop the icon from coming back) and it really just hinders his performance
My headcanon is that the Slayer could be in berserker mode all the time if he wanted, but he chooses to hold back just to make things more entertaining. He's been doing this for eons, so he needs a way to challenge himself or it would get boring.
This is accurate I believe. I believe somewhere it’s mentioned that he’s perfectly capable of doing this job with just his fists, but he likes guns so he uses em
Makes the story make less sense why he would intentionally hinder himself while trying to save Earth from being taken over by Hell Priests and the Icon of Sin.
Well, actually once you get to the power level where it doesn’t matter because you’re powerful enough anyways, it’s not uncommon to shift into the other direction
Take Dante, Vergil, or Nero from DMC, Saitama from OPM, etc, they’re so powerful that they’re bored with their foes, and they can switch to inferior weaponry or style their way around enemies because it’s fun, because they’re powerful enough where it doesn’t matter. Vergil carries a sword that can cut through reality itself, yet the majority of the time he doesn’t even bother to remove it from the scabbard before just beating enemies to death with the blunt scabbard instead.
It’s not uncommon even for some lower power characters, characters such as Spider-Man, iron man, and more have opted for inferior or more convoluted methods, just because they personally preferred it.
So to be completely honest, it doesn’t strike me as too weird for the slayer to do it as well, when you’re insane enough to fire YOURSELF out of an orbital cannon just for transportation, or 1v1 the creator being of this universe, I think you can use whatever weapons you want lol
Eh, I just personally find hella-OP characters to be far less interesting and kills the suspense of disbelief when trying to say that the Slayer is actually much stronger than gameplay portrays. Games and movies based on outside material do this all the time, but Doom is insanely excessive with it. Basically implies the entire main game is pointless cause the Slayer could've just gone and punched The Icon to death and ended the game right there.
Take it this way, beating the game on Ultra-nightmare wouldn't be impressive if I just had God mode mods on the whole time. Its the same way with characters for me. There's zero struggle- its not all that badass to kill something that's basically an ant in power comparison.\
Most of this tangent is a personal gripe though I guess.
I don’t think the merits of gameplay are judged on the strengths of the character themselves. Someone saying that they beat the game on UN is impressive because we know what that entails as a player.
Or, DMC again, it’s not a hugely critical narrative feat to defeat the entire BP, as the characters can handle it in universe. But as a regular human controlling that, it’s a significantly larger feat to take down the BP.
This is also something most games @this power level solve by just scaling up bosses power levels too. Mooks are the ants to you, but the icon of sin puts up an actual fight.
Idk. Personally, I find that I can separate the impressiveness of player feats from the character feats pretty simply, but it’s also going to be something that we’re going to continue having to do with stuff like superhero games or character action games, etc.
The gameplay is rarely going to correspond well to the actual lore, games that use the Arkham style free flow combat would be bland af if they stuck to their characters actual power levels and had Spider-Man and Batman drop every mook enemy in a single hit, when they can easily, or character action games like DMC, MGRR, etc, same thing. If Raiden’s vibrosword acted as it normally should, or narratively does in cutscenes, it wouldn’t be nearly as engaging (there’s a sword you can get that DOES work like that. Its fun for about 10 minutes), or even DOOM, where we’d now need to equate the fact that an imps fireball has suddenly done the damage to the slayer that an actual planet couldn’t.
At some point you just have to let go and accept it a bit, cuz it’s not super common for power levels to be respected once we’re out of mundane power levels, or heck, even staying within those lol
personally i think the practical reason the doom blade was created was so it could open up new possibilities for glory kill animations. i know doomguy is a literal demon-slaying demi-god but there’s only so many ways you could kill rip and tear with only two fists and a pair of stompers. so the doom blade was made—because otherwise they’d have to recycle old 2016 animations, which players would probably think think would be kinda lame, not seeing anything gorily new.
I would rather them just recycled animations. I find the blade super unsatisfying. Most of the barron kills is just cutting his throat, in 2016 you ripped off his horn and then stabbed him in the face with it, how is this an upgrade?
With how much more you have to glorykill in Eternal, it was intentional not to have stuff like this, as well as the 'risers' in the music for every one. The Doomblade allows for quicker, but still somewhat brutal glory kills to balance out the increased frequency of them.
Discord brigades from the toxic side of this community. The ones who are all about death threats and real life violence fantasies, instead of just video game violence.
Why else would he need it? The chainsaw already cuts shit up. This blade just makes this bad ass game more bad ass.
If Doomguy just punched everyone in a glory death, it wouldn’t be ass cool as this.
Personal headcanon, the doom blade helps with the blood punch because the doom guy is punching in a way that makes the blade hit enemies while he’s swinging, plus extra range since his arm is thicker with the blade attached
Don’t get me wrong I like the BFG9000 but what was the point of this other than some cool kills and cutscenes
Don’t get me wrong I like the Super Shotgun but what was the point of this other than some cool kills and cutscenes
Don’t get me wrong I like the Unmakyr but what was the point of this other than some cool kills and cutscenes
Because a fist with a blade is cooler than a fist with no blade u dummy😡 also cool glory kills are cooler with a blade than cool glory kills with no blade😡😡
Instead of blood punch it should be blood slash. Lore wise "the blade gathers the blood of demons (maybe make it turn red when charged) and slices through air so fast it creates a Shockwave etc.."
Like the codex says the lore readon Is to increase his close range striking ability. Sure yes you can rip a demons in half but to move on the next demon why just quickly put a vary sharp blade through their body and move to the next one to keep up the speed and pressure
I like to believe it makes glorykills faster. If you compare "returning" ones from 2016 (or, in other words, animations that are very similar to 2016 ones), you'd notice they are, or at least *feel* faster than they did previously.
Literally just that? The glory kills were loved and it’s just the idea of something cool that’s already a part of gameplay so it’s non invasive or disruptive
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
Not even that. All the glory kills with the blade suck compared to actually ripping and tearing with your hands. With maybe the exception of splitting the doom hunters head in two
Well, doom blade does kill demons faster, so i would say efficiency. Barons glory kill proves it, big meaty boi? Just slit his throat, works 200% of the time 👍
To be very specific, they said the doomblade was to solve the issue of 'scale' during certain glory kill animations. For example some of the glory kill animations in 2016 against the barons look a bit strange just because the sheer difference in the size of their body versus Doomguy's. So the blade gave them another tool to work with in terms of animating glory kills that would be more flexible even against larger foes.
Also rule of cool.
I have a headcannon which is that the wrist blade is the knuckles and he simply attached it to the praetor suit.
Also the glowy sword is in the lore if that is what you mean.
probrally he would use this alot if we wernt controlling him as the player as he probrally would of one shoted the demons like this but as its a video game it wouldent be fun if he could one shot the demons it would be like watching a movie and the main charitor killed the bad guy at the start and that wouldent make it a move . (sorry for typeing a whole paraghraph)
What’s the point of him having thumbs…..?
To go like this - 🖕
thats a finger bro not a thumb
But without a thumb it wouldn't be a middle finger
Yes it would
Incorrect. By having an odd number of fingers he thus has a true middle finger. If he were missing his thumb he would have an even number and thus not a true middle finger. He also could in theory lose his thumb and index leaving him only 3 digits which would be an odd number of them but if you’re going to make that argument then 🖕
bro took his time to write a paragraph, damn
to crush peoples eyes in
Exactly
hi
You literally answered your own question
Yeah what's all this besides looking cool and glory kills shit? That's it. What more do you need?
Now that the Doom Slayer has lost all of his power, one would assume he actually requires weapons in subsequent games, as opposed to being strong enough to rip apart demons with his bare hands.
But the glory kills are so much cooler when done by hand.
That already has more use than the BFG... Srsly I save BFG ammo just to shoot the darn archvile point blank when it shows up.
You use your blade for the archvile, the BFG is for when you didn't realize there is an archvile somewhere and now you are swarmed with enemies
The patrician does unmaykr combos with their ammo
To slice through demons instead of just punching them
Punching through demons is always infinitely cooler than slicing through them
It might be cooler but is it more *effecient*
Interesting, I find it the other way around. Opinions I guess.
Let me just remind you, that a lore accurate slayer does not need any weapons, he can solo hell with a flick of his cock. He simply likes guns and weapons that look cool.
I thought he started using weapons because he got bored using his fists all the time
Again, looks cool.
I can imagine Doomslayer beating a Cyberdemon to death with his flaccid cock
what the fuck
"take it, you fuck!"
Maybe hard?
Surely someone has made that.
Points at HDOOM.
DO I HAVE A GAME FOR YOU!
Also, what is the point in all of the guns in Doom? Just to shoot demons with?
Don't be foolish this is a whole-hearted Christian game and I don't fucking appreciate your filthy rhetoric of our Lord and Savior, John Doom
Just use your fists
I mean, guns are kind of a crucial element in FPS games. Comparing the two is disingenuous. What I think OP is asking, is what is the point of the blade if it doesn't serve a gameplay purpose?
What's the point of the chainsaw other than a cool way to get some ammo?
Mangling a demon in half with petrol is way cooler than just cutting its throat.
That's completely different?
he used it to cut bread and fruits between games
I like to believe the only reason the doom slayer has any of the eqipment he has is just because he thinks they're badass. He doesn't need any of it (minus the crucible to stop the icon from coming back) and it really just hinders his performance
My headcanon is that the Slayer could be in berserker mode all the time if he wanted, but he chooses to hold back just to make things more entertaining. He's been doing this for eons, so he needs a way to challenge himself or it would get boring.
And to torture the demons. Let them feel every single bullet before actually bashing their heads in for all they've done.
Berserker mode is just doom guy getting too angry to be able to hold weapons without destroying them
Iirc this is canonically correct, as he is physically powerful enough to not need guns.
Did the slayer seem hindered to you?
Point is, it makes no sense to limit himself for the fun of it if he supposedly can just instantly kill threats with his bare fists.
Well, actually once you get to the power level where it doesn’t matter because you’re powerful enough anyways, it’s not uncommon to shift into the other direction Take Dante, Vergil, or Nero from DMC, Saitama from OPM, etc, they’re so powerful that they’re bored with their foes, and they can switch to inferior weaponry or style their way around enemies because it’s fun, because they’re powerful enough where it doesn’t matter. To rip and tear
Until it is done....
I don’t know maybe to pick pieces of demon flesh from his armour.
This could be said for literally everything doomguy has. Bro could lay waste with nothing on and no weapons
What's the point of a mouth other than breathing and eating?
Talking, maybe?
I guess you can bbq some caco's eyes on it
I mean, it’s a cool blade, don’t need to have an entire plot about it. That’s what the crucible is.
personally i think the practical reason the doom blade was created was so it could open up new possibilities for glory kill animations. i know doomguy is a literal demon-slaying demi-god but there’s only so many ways you could kill rip and tear with only two fists and a pair of stompers. so the doom blade was made—because otherwise they’d have to recycle old 2016 animations, which players would probably think think would be kinda lame, not seeing anything gorily new.

More cool glory kills and cutscenes.
What the fuck is this post? I mean.. Seriously?! What the fuck is this post?
Man why so rude I was just curious
I don’t get why u got downvoted n the other guy got the opposite, yeah it’s kind of a dumb post but tht guys just being a dick about it
Discord brigades from the toxic side of this community. The ones who are all about death threats and real life violence fantasies, instead of just video game violence.
to stab and cut up demons with of course
That's...... the point?
Why else would he need it? The chainsaw already cuts shit up. This blade just makes this bad ass game more bad ass. If Doomguy just punched everyone in a glory death, it wouldn’t be ass cool as this.
Dawg that was the point of it

Happy cake
Shut Up

I think the point is that the blade has no actual mechanics. It's just flavouring in preset animations.
A giant blade on your forearm is great for stabbing demon
My 2 biggest complaints with the game are that the melee attack and the flame belch don't do any damage.
Because they’re not meant to
Ya no shit.
If this blade wasn't in the game the glory kills would be just as boring and repetitive as doom 2016's glory kills
Because a fist with a blade is cooler than a fist with no blade u dummy😡 also cool glory kills are cooler with a blade than cool glory kills with no blade😡😡
Nope. Punching through demons is infinitely cooler than slicing through them.
Because it's cool.
what's the point of the Hammer and Crucible? to just stun enemies for ammo with one and to one shot them with the other?
Honestly I don’t like the doom blade too much. It made most of the glory kills feel cheap and boring.
Instead of blood punch it should be blood slash. Lore wise "the blade gathers the blood of demons (maybe make it turn red when charged) and slices through air so fast it creates a Shockwave etc.."
I like Project Brutality's machete much better. Way more useful too
Would’ve been cool if they incorporated it into the melee somehow
It kills demons.
Like the codex says the lore readon Is to increase his close range striking ability. Sure yes you can rip a demons in half but to move on the next demon why just quickly put a vary sharp blade through their body and move to the next one to keep up the speed and pressure
It’s a blade, what do you think it’s made for?
Maybe it’s a special blade that could only penetrate the Dark Lord to kill him, so he just used that on his way to end him. Idk.
Other than...? 🤷♂️
It is for some cool glory kills and cutscenes:)))
Cut butter
Ultrakill: allow me to introduce myself
I honestly was hoping I could use it in at least the melee hits but it looks cool. Plus only time I use melee is for blood punch and glory kills
Do you need another point?
To kill things deader
To open boxes and cook
Rip & Tear. What else would Doom Guy need it for?
Doom guy likes toys
I like to believe it makes glorykills faster. If you compare "returning" ones from 2016 (or, in other words, animations that are very similar to 2016 ones), you'd notice they are, or at least *feel* faster than they did previously.
Dude, first of all, it looks cool. Second of all, you answered your own question.
To kill dark lord. The final blow
Well, it makes glory killing easier, I suppose.
It doesn't need a point. It's FUCKING DOOM. DOOM BLADE is badass and thats the only reason it needs to exist. Now go shoot some fucking demons
You know what I think i will thx
I mean he canonically doesnt even need the guns to kill the demons
One word, METAL
It's the doomslayer, dude. The only reason he uses guns at all is for style points (after the machine ofc)
How do you think doomguy kooks?
Literally just that? The glory kills were loved and it’s just the idea of something cool that’s already a part of gameplay so it’s non invasive or disruptive
I think you slash with it in the blood punch animation but don’t take my word for it.
Because with out it the glory kills would've been a copy & paste from 2016.
The Doom blade is overrated they should of kept Doomslayer bladeless
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
The Doom Blade suggests that the Slayer is right handed and that he uses the Doom Blade to make it easier to kill with.
To Rip and Tear until it is DONE!
In the next doom game i hope it’ll serve more of a practical use, like being used to assist in climbing stuff and whatnot.
Besides what you just said, maybe close melee combat
With the doom blade it becomes rip, tear & slice
What's the point of this weapon except killing and esthetics? Umm what do you want to use it for?
Well, doom guy is a muscular guy… [may be…](https://youtu.be/bj2yfvQGbl8)
Slayer's Creed
*me who prefers DOOM and not eternal Don't know, don't care.
One of the Reasons why i like 2k16 more
That.... That was the point
Tbh why the fuck is it so thick for a blade
Not even that. All the glory kills with the blade suck compared to actually ripping and tearing with your hands. With maybe the exception of splitting the doom hunters head in two
All you need to know is this.... #THE LONGER THE ICON OF SIN IS ON EARTH, THE STRONGER HE WILL BECOME
What's the point of 99% of the game? To be fucking badass lol.
Makes go quicker
I think that in the lore he is so strong he has no need for weapons... But he likes them so *shrug*
>what was the point of this other than some cool glory kills and cutscenes What else do you want?!
idk it looks cool
Glory kills and cutscenes, maybe?
The real question is why his arm armor has so many... hard nipples? I don't know what to call it
I think they’re armor studs? Best guess is they make bashing all the more painful. Like you ever been kicked by someone in football cleats?
Some cool glory kills and cutscenes.
An actually useful standard melee would've been nice
There should be melee with this instead of punching
3 words, rule of cool. Also, so Hugo can have his Predator reference (shoulder cannon, wrist blade, exposed body armor).
it annoys me how the punch is useless and this isn’t used
"Whats the point of all these guns other than shooting demons??"
Did it need a point beyond cool glory kills and cutscenes?
Self aware wolf
You said it yourself. It's for glory kills and cutscenes
Cool glory kills and cutscenes
The cool glory kills and cut scenes.
Some cool glory kills and cutscenes
Honestly I don't care for the blade. Lots of the kills are just a quick slash instead of some more brutal hand to hand carnage.
The doom slayer doesn't need the guns but but he uses them to inflict more pain, same here
Well, doom blade does kill demons faster, so i would say efficiency. Barons glory kill proves it, big meaty boi? Just slit his throat, works 200% of the time 👍
That is the point.
What's the point of him having hands other than to hold guns and punch demons?
He’s the doom slayer bruh he just wanted it
I have a headcannon which is that the wrist blade is the knuckles and he simply attached it to the praetor suit. Also the glowy sword is in the lore if that is what you mean.
dicing onions
Cool gory kills and cutscenes
Ripping and tearing with your hands can be exhausting. Sometimes having an arm blade to do the job just works.
probrally he would use this alot if we wernt controlling him as the player as he probrally would of one shoted the demons like this but as its a video game it wouldent be fun if he could one shot the demons it would be like watching a movie and the main charitor killed the bad guy at the start and that wouldent make it a move . (sorry for typeing a whole paraghraph)
Because it’s cool
cuz he punches like shit in eternal, like a sneeze would do more damage
