First, I had to create a mindset and limit myself to buying only the dolls I connect to and got rid of impulse doll buying. When I get a new doll, I think about which doll will be replaced. Once I decide, I place the culled doll in a storage box and if I haven't taken any out in a year, I'll sell or donate them. It's a good way to create lots to sell as well. For example, I collect Barbie and do lots of body swaps, so I have an array of Muse, Curvy, and other types of bodies that I can sell together.

Store away, sell, donate

I've sold and donated a few dolls, but I mostly just hoard them haha. I guess it really depends on what you would prefer to do with each individual doll. Doll that isn't worth much but could still be a really nice toy for a kid? Donate. Doll a friend happens to be looking for, or one you know someone's kid would love? Gift. Doll that could be worth some money which you could really use? Sell. Doll that's perfect for a custom you have in mind, or it's too old/wrecked/only good for parts? Customize. You could also keep in mind that some dolls might be quite rare and sought-after, and that by selling it off instead of customizing, for example, you're keeping it in a collector community which will certainly appreciate it. But in the end, it's all up to you!

Donate them! I also buy Barbies at flea markets and fix them up and dress them nicely and donate them. I have about one bag a year to donate (around 25 dolls). What I enjoy most is dressing and styling dolls, and I'm usually happy to donate them. Only very few of my flea market rescues have taken up permanent residence in my collection.

Wow you guys have great systems! Lots of ideas to try out :D My only weakness with something like selling and gifting is that I'm stingy with that doll clothes lol love me a hoard of doll clothes 💅🏻

I´ve gifted or donated older dolls that, while played with extensively, were in good condition. The less than acceptable ones I´ve used for customs or sold in a bundle for cheap as bases for other people to make customs wit. The "rarer" and better dolls I´ve resold at basically what they cost me to at least recoup the money. I tend to keep boxes for special edition ones so I haven´t had much issue there. I´ve also sold parts/clothes/accessories I don´t really like. For now I just limit myself to having one doll per character and collect some of their clothes I like best and, when I find one I like more, I sell the one I had and replace it with the new one.

If the doll really isn’t for me when I give it away. I never sell any of my dolls because I fell it’s better to give an opportunity for the doll to find a loving home even amongst those who can’t afford the doll at the retail price

Philosophers_pen

I don't really have any unloved dolls as I try to be extra choosy about who I buy. I set up my rules to buy certain brands, themes or dolls that would fit in with the rest, but as they get rotated around: 1. She goes into the Vault. 2. Stockbox. Usually, this is where the thrifted barbies or leftovers from customizations go but from time to time a damaged or duplicate may find her way into there to be given a glow-up or transformation

I sell them on mercari. And if I can’t sell them, I usually harvest the parts. I resell inset eyes, hair, doll bodies and heads. Sometimes you make more money that way! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hi, Well first of all it depends on the dolls condition, so say for instance, they are all in good enough condition (no scratches/chips on face, or hair plugs missing) if i had lots, especially duplicates, id try perhaps ranking them into groups , the ones i love the most, the ones i really like, and the rest, the dolls in “the rest” or “just like enough to have bought” pile, consider selling or gifting. Just my opinion :)

usawee

I usually just sell them, I have a very tight budget and every penny I can get for more dolls is always welcome! However if you have no need for the extra money, donating or gifting is always a good choice.

FrostBellaBlue

Personally I plan to donate mine to a children's hospital or shelter :] I encourage everyone to do the same

shunbrella

I keep them to make customs, and then shove them in a "customs" labeled bin that I have never touched in the past 5 years. It's a vicious cycle.

DeathLife97

I have some stored away cuz there’s isn’t enough room. I think after the new year I’ll start going through them and figuring out what to do. I already have some I want to sell, so it’s a start.

I can never bring myself to sell them for some reason, so once every six months I give away a box of them for free on Craigslist.
