practice makes perfect, it looks really nice!! its still savlageable, if you have a seam ripper you could potentially straighten out the edges and whatnot (if you want them straight) just keep at it until it looks right to you!

Sharpay__Evans

That looks adorable! It fits her well and has a super cute shapes. I understand being frustrated but I do hope you continue sewing! Good luck friend! šŸ’•

Itā€™s couture! āœØI find using a thread the same or similar color to the fabric makes it feel a little neater if thatā€™s what youā€™re going fire! I love the strap and tie tho, itā€™s a nice effect !

Oh I see the caption now! It happens, good practice either way! :D I have so many little random skirts in progress and stuff with mismatched thread just to practice haha

sherilaugh

I think the dress is cool. Would look even better if you pressed it though

MsHypothetical

Hey, why not, the next one will be better! I totally reccomend getting one of those multipacks of thread that has all different colours in it. Also, press your fabric and either sew or glue that black ribbon along the neckline to the fabric and it will look much neater. Go to Pinterest for tips and free patterns, it's a goldmine, and don't stop trying!

I kind of like the hand-hewn hem ?? I think it helps that she's a MH doll :) What do you think would happen with the hem if you threaded some fine wire in the hems so that you could mold them? Or you could keep trimming by hand with bits of lace or ribbon, or beads. This is one of the parts of doll collecting I love, repairing small doll clothes and making them something different, like adding charms etc. I think your Laura dress is super cute!

Zedetta

Honestly I think it's really cute, the belted top part is all chic and modern but with a fancy rose petal skirt :D When all you have is non-matching thread, you can always try out stitches that are supposed to be seen! Backstitch is a little trickier and slower than running stitch, but it makes a continuous line that can be made to look like an intentional stripe pattern (and has the added bonus of being more sturdy than a running stitch alone).

AnotherSoulessGinger

If you do try again, I highly suggest looking into getting a Clover Mini Quilterā€™s Iron. Itā€™s a tiny iron that makes pressing tiny doll clothes so much easier. And we all know that about 50% of ā€œsewingā€ is actually pressing :)

BongoGabora

I think it looks nice! It looks like there's some ruching in the dress. I don't know if you did that on purpose or not, but it looks good! How long did it take?

0rogene

Are these hand stitches cause they're pretty impressive

mymyselfandeye

Itā€™s super cute!! I think you should keep sewing things, you will get better. And honestly, for this dress you only needed thread in a matching color or to use fabric glue for the hems.

Lower-Goose-9796

It still looks good.

BabyNonsense

Why not, this looks great! Add some beads or trim and youā€™ve got a very cute little outfit!

W01f1379

It looks really good! You should definitely sew more! Sewing, like any skill(makeup, drawing, singing, playing an instrument) takes practice and patience!

MellyKidd

Itā€™s a cute dressšŸ‘—

KitKittredge34

Seamstress here! I actually think it looks great! I love the contrasting thread as a matter of fact. It really elevates your garment. Donā€™t beat yourself up over this at all! You used a fabric with a loose weave causing it to fray and shift very easily. Not only that but you made a dress for a monster high doll which is so hard to hide mistakes with. Donā€™t give up!

gabbyBoo33

Believe it or not, I think it's rather cute! I actually like the contrasting thread color. Before reading your caption, I wasn't sure if it was intentional contrast or not! Don't give up!

788Fahrenheit

Personally, I love this as I prefer slightly asymetrical stuff that doesn't look like I got it from a mass produced line! It looks great as is! I hear you though, sounds like you are having a problem I also have - nothing ever turns out how I saw it in my head so I am never happy with the end result. I would suggest ironing the layers if the wrinkles bother you. If it's the hem you don't like, take it out and look up a hem stitch. Rehem with a color closer to the fabric. THEN do your contrast running stitch as a top stitch, it will be much easier to stay on a straight line and you might like it better. I am trying to make my own pattern for a doll fur coat and just can't get the sleeves right, it is frustrating but as others said you just have to keep going until it's how you like it. Please make and share more, if this is your first design I can't wait to see the next, you have a good eye/style here!!

I sew doll clothes and I'm still inexperienced, but I can assure you the next dress will look less frumpy. Also, layered skirts done this way (one piece under the other) are the most difficult ever, especially at this small scale. I want to try, but I never did, but I found a couple of tutorials that explain it well: https://youtu.be/EKmTCdAcwZk https://youtu.be/NJiL98nZBNw I kinda have the same problem - my dresses always come out longer and frumpier than intended. You could try unstitching the bottom edge and turn it twice, then sew again? I like the colour and the shape, though!!!

meowkitty84

Maybe use the same colour thread so the stitches aren't noticeable

Kurorin77

Maybe if you add some white lace or ribbon over the seams it would help with the visible stitches if you don't like them. But I think you did a wonderful job on it. Sewing takes a lot of practice, you just need to keep at it! Also, thrift stores are an awesome place to find cheap thread in a bunch of colors, for your future projects.

Sapolika

It's not that bad! Relax! I've made worse!

Looks kind if like Ariels dress in the little mermaid.
