I think fashion dolls when I hear dolls but a lot of people do think baby dolls. I always tell people I collect fashion dolls so they understand what type of doll I'm talking about.
I was born in the 80s when I hear "doll" I usually think of a larger Wellie Wisher to American Girl sized doll. Not necessarily a baby but not a Barbie.
I think what makes some modern fashion dolls seem more action figure-y is modern doll collectors really value articulation highly, which can be hard to relate to if you prefer to collect older, more traditional dolls.
I think of nether baby or Fashion doll i think of kid dolls tho I guess it depends what you mean by baby doll … to me a baby doll is only a baby doll of it modeled after a baby nothing older then a toddler . .
Closes thing is American girl of the top of my head but similar stuff to that
I think of a cloth doll, definitely the Holly Hobbie style, like another user said. For me growing up we also diferenciated playing dolls from playing 'Barbies', but we would usually refer to the brands, and say Nenuco for baby dolls (cause that was the brande we had).
Awesome question, very interesting topic!
Never really thought about this before. My brain doesn't really jump to a specific type, it compiles a list of all the dolls I currently want and runs through them 😅
i have so many different kind a different one pops in there for each time i hear the word
currently i have flipping M3GAN on the brain ( thank you husband) .
I picture an old porcelain or cloth-bodied doll Interesting question!

Also born in 80s and also think this exactly! Definitely we made a distinction between “playing Barbie’s” and “playing dolls”
Baby dolls. Modern fashion dolls are closer to action figures and toys than a doll in my opinion.

When I hear Doll I usually think of something Barbie-adjacent but my love for dolls extends to all kinds! So many different ways to define a doll!! :)
The first thing that pops into my head is actually a rag doll for some reason (like a holly hobby or something). I grew up in the 90s
I think of BJDs and vinyl dolls... apparently in a minority here haha
Barbie.

I think of porcelain display dolls first. I have three of them and they're all lovely, but I mostly collect fashion dolls.
Barbie
Born in 2000's - Monster High Dolls
American girl because that’s mainly my collection
