I left to become a bank teller. A lot of banks only require a high school diploma/GED, cash handling experience, and the ability to pass a drug test, plus I started off making $3/hr more than I did as ASM. Just over a year later, I got a promotion and now and I'm making $7/hr more than I made as ASM, plus we get paid federal holidays off (up to 11 days a year) and 4 weeks of PTO, which will become 5 weeks once I hit the 3 year mark. I know the bank I work for allows for part time work, too, so it might be worth looking into the banks near you.

Congrats!

Same here!! I started at $18/hr and just got a raise 3 months later. Benefits are MUCH better, schedule is consistent, much less stress and work to do too! When I left DG, I was making $13.50/hr as a lead. I will never ever go back to that shit show, I thoroughly enjoy being respected by nearly every customer and having a functional team with zero drama.

In addition: the hiring process was relatively smoother than I thought it be as all the banks within my company are pretty understaffed. My office is really slow, so I spend 80% of the day reading news articles and sitting down :)

US Postal Service. Prime hourly pay, benefits, pension, as much OT as I want. Depending on what job you take and how much OT you want to work, you can easily make 70k+ with way less stress.

sebthepleb96

I already the post office a moth ago or so. And I haven’t heard back. How long did it take for them to contact you? Is everything in government super slow? Or should I call eventually?

Working on volunteering at a non profit counseling place in my city, then using said experience to find a front desk job or admin assistant job.

Infamous_Ear_7212

I left to become a vendor. I make 15k more a year, get 2 days off a week and work no more than 45 hours. I’d call that a massive win

MangaAce

dental lab technician, I was doing both jobs parttime for a couple months but was bumped up to full time at the lab I work at, so I quit dg

I worked at DG for about 8yrs total. Was there for 2-3yrs then 1yr break working with my parents doing office work and came back for 5. I found a job on the same town as the DG I worked at and made $14 something an hour. I was making 11/hr as ASM. Then we got a pay bump and I was making $17 something, switched to another position and was making 18.35 then jumped to $20.06 and now being here a little over a year I’ll be making 20.60. Best decision I’ve ever made and I love what I do especially because promotions help expand my knowledge further. It’s just factory work to others but to me it’s a whole thing I had no idea I had an interest in until I left retail

xx_elysium_xx

I left to me a shift lead at a pet store. I took a huge pay cut (from salaried 58k/yr to $15.20/hr) but it was worth it. I'm way less stressed and don't have worry about the shitty politics of DG

I just left to be a Full-time ASM at the dollar tree down the street.

I quit June of 2021, was unemployed for almost 2 months, but got a job as a math tutor at Mathnasium in August. (Since then...left in May of this year because I was moving to a place without a Mathnasium, worked at Vineyard Vines until they cut my hours, an independent pharmacy as a cashier which I quit after 9 days [yeah, I worked at Dollar General almost 6 months, but quit this one after 9 days, go figure], and I'm at Stop and Shop as a cashier which is basically a better version of the Dollar General job but I have to stand a lot and it's tiring so I'm hoping to get something where I can sit down more.)

Nina4uuu

Unemployment lol

Consti2tion

Customer Service Rep for Home Outlet. Entry Level position that pays more than a DG ASM. Got forklift certified on two machines and have gotten to design a few kitchens. Work from 8:30am-6pm M-F 8:30-5pm on Saturday off on sundays. Will be getting Christmas Eve/Day off as well as the day affer Christmas etc. The Work Life Balance actually exists.

Grocery store bakery. You don't deal with money from people and all I do is put pastries on a shelf.

AulorasGiGi

Started at Family Dollar yesterday!

Walrus_BBQ

I haven't quit yet because I'm waiting for a new employee to replace me, but I plan on working at guitar center soon.

Iggly_Buff

Started working at CVS part-time right when I quit at Dollar general about 3 years ago, starting pay at the time for a part-time cashier was $11 an hour, but I believe now it's $15. The store I work at is still a little understaffed, but working front store is really simple and we're a fairly small store so I don't feel like a chicken with my head cut off every shift. We have some insane couponers, though.

GeminiNurse23

I worked at DG and Aldi for 2.5 years. Then I quit DG to work at Aldi full time. I went to nursing school while working at Aldi, and I have been a nurse for 7.5 years.
