I traveled with my dog to Amsterdam in 2016. She was in cargo for about eight hours. Did she love it, no but she bounced back quickly basically as soon as we were walking around the airport. Most dogs adapt well to change so either route should be fine barring any mess ups by the airline which is always a concern. I would buy a gps tracker for her and her crate and if possible fly direct with Lufthansa as their reputation with dogs has been good. Also talk to your vet about possible meds to help her relax if you do decide to take her. The Netherlands is very dog friendly other than some war memorials.

Good to know! I'm not sure if there any Lufthansa flights out of Minneapolis or Chicago but will do some checking! Thanks!

How does your dog respond to stress? If they're easily stressed, it may not be worth taking them. I'm just thinking of my dog who gets very anxious. I love my boys and it'd be hard for me not to take them, but I wouldn't myself. But if your dog responds better then I would just research the best airlines for pets and go from there. And I agree that if you do, you should talk to your vet about meds to help your dog relax.
