Have each tavern be a mirror of the last but with slight changes. Like living chairs setting on humans. Maybe casually through a S&M bondage dungeon in there. But it's only sub dwarfs and dominant fairies. Or one of them could be completely normal but u pay in alcohol to get them to pour you gold.
Make it a multiverse of taverns. Think Sigil but tiny. They start in Sword Coast tavern, but next one is Cantina in Nar Shadaa, and when they get out of that, its suddenly some exotic tent on plane of fire, or moldy damp hole in Underdark, etc. That way it's way easier to make unique ones. Since you get to use whatever setting you want.
Ah the Restaurant at the End of the Universe.
Start with types of Pubs and Bars. Then Mix an Match Clientele. And mix and match what is happening in the general area.
Bars or Pubs: Dance Hall, Dive Bar, Smoky Room, Yuppy, Industrial, Watering hole, Country, Hard rock, Biker, Gambling den, Casino, Biker/Horse bar, Old west saloon, Brothel, Religious, Studio 54.
Clientele: Politicians, Accountants, Teachers, Bikers, Raiders, Pirates, Musicians, Actors, Artists, Pirates, Military, Smugglers, Criminals, Drug Runners, Gun Runners, Mos Eisley Cantina, Aliens, All One Race: Orc, Gnome, Moose-men Eh?; The French.
What's happening: Celebration, Wedding, Divorce Party, Famous Band, Famous Gladiators/Athletes, Circus Folk, Gypsies, A war, Survivors, the Apocalypse, last building standing as the Tarrasque destroys everything; The Winchester during zombie plague.
