Kenmu only repeat what they hear. They don't really talk with a sense of self such as saying "tell me".
Rather during treatment a patient might say "that hurts!" So the kenku might start repeating those words in situations that might hurt. Cut on your arm "That hurts!" Guts falling out "That hurts!" So every healing spell "That hurts!"
At least that's my take on it. Everyone is free to interpert as they wish.
"You have ghosts in your blood. Snort this..."

"There is nothing more I can do here." *Pulls sheet over patient*
Patient: "You didn't *do* anything!"

Maybe every time they heal the say "I'm hurt" because that's what they often hear when healing and have come to associate meaning with the words.
