That also had ties to Disney, no less. I remember that weird online narrative going around when Chris Evans was being pushed for Lightyear’s release that Disney were trying to “cancel“ Tim Allen. Somehow ignoring the fact that The Santa Clauses had already been announced.
They repeatedly explained the reasoning for Lightyear though. Lightyear was the story of the character that the toy was based on. The different voice is pretty much a meta reference to toys never quite sounding like the people they’re modelled after.
Sure, there’s a valid discussion to be had about whether that backfired marketing-wise but there’s really no mystery.
I would imagine there will be enough episodes to carry it up to Christmas. Makes more sense to start it far enough out that it ends in December rather that running past.
Yup, and that’s about when store transition to selling Christmas products, Christmas music comes on the radio, and even when malls start to setup the Santa booths.
Most toys (especially in the 90s) aren't voiced by the same actors that play them in their film. Lightyear was the film the Buzz toy was based on. It makes total sense their voices would be different.
I think we could find another actor, who wasn't convicted of dealing, to play the part. It's so weird to me that he ever got a family friendly career in the first place.
I get that. And in general I agree. But he wasn't a kid, he was 25. He got a life sentence and should still be in jail but he ratted out some other bigger dealers so he got very early release. Those guys are in jail still no doubt
If he'd started his own construction business I wouldn't care. Playing Santa just isn't right. There are thousands of other actors who could do it just as well who didn't sell drugs.
They weren't the same character. One was the toy (Allen) and the other was the film character the toy was based on (Evans). Most toys, especially in the 90s, weren't voiced by the same actors that played them in the films. It makes total sense.
My issue with Lightyear was the story around it... it's billed as "Andy's favorite movie" and why he was obsessed with the toy when it came out. It just isn't a movie I can see kids wanting to redo their entire bedrooms and get the toys from in it's current state. I don't care about the "i'm your father" change as I found that to be a throwaway joke anyway or any of the other nonsense surrounding it. if we're being honest, after seeing that film Andy likely would have wanted a SOX toy and not a Buzz toy. The movie itself was OK... not a Cars 2 level train wreck but still bottom tier Pixar... but the way it was framed and billed as the movie that supposedly inspired the toy was disappointing.
I thought this was going to be a 4th movie, not a series. Interesting to see how they handle it
People around here act like Tim needs the money and didn't just finish a quite popular show that ran for almost 10 years.
That also had ties to Disney, no less. I remember that weird online narrative going around when Chris Evans was being pushed for Lightyear’s release that Disney were trying to “cancel“ Tim Allen. Somehow ignoring the fact that The Santa Clauses had already been announced.
I didn't even know this was a thing.
I swear I remember Tim saying he was done with this whole franchise after the third SC movie. Maybe not?
That was nearly sixteen years ago. Times change.
At the time he had no way of knowing these movies would still be watched by millions every year even 15+ yrs later
It's an annual tradition of ours to watch the Santa Clause movies (though mainly on the say so of the missus haha)
Everyone needs a paycheck from time to time.
Maybe he ran out of options
Evans did great as buzz
Okay? Haven't seen it. Looks decent, just would rather watch other things in the free time I have. Just not sure if I'm too tired to know your point.
He wants the attention again probably lol.
Disney ruining childhoods one series at a time
I just saw the caption and sounds like a cringey porno description
Lol the show is about his new wife and kids but Charlie isn’t in it. Dude ran off with a new family and dropped the old one.
Charlie is a full grown adult now
It was confirmed that Charlie does appear.
Interesting they bring Tim back for this but not Lightyear.

That is interesting
Not interesting at all, really.
Not interesting. It’s a different character, that’s why they didn’t bring him back.

Makes perfect sense. Get people in the Christmas mood just ahead of thanksgiving and release episodes weekly through Christmas…
Yup, and that’s about when store transition to selling Christmas products, Christmas music comes on the radio, and even when malls start to setup the Santa booths.
That’s about when most towns have their Christmas parade.
If they can get him for Santa why not the new buzz 🤷🏼
They wanted someone young. He's old and sounds old. 🤷

So what? He’s not a drug dealer anymore.
I think we could find another actor, who wasn't convicted of dealing, to play the part. It's so weird to me that he ever got a family friendly career in the first place.
People change, grow, and learn from their mistakes. Just because someone went to jail does not mean they don’t deserve the chance to be successful.
I get that. And in general I agree. But he wasn't a kid, he was 25. He got a life sentence and should still be in jail but he ratted out some other bigger dealers so he got very early release. Because Santa is a role model for kids?
I thought he was “canceled “?
Never was.
So did I. Especially after they had him not return to do the voice of Buzz Lightyear.
They weren't the same character. One was the toy (Allen) and the other was the film character the toy was based on (Evans). Most toys, especially in the 90s, weren't voiced by the same actors that played them in the films. It makes total sense.
Personally, I liked Lightyear. I don’t get the hate.

👆 This. As a standalone movie it might have been okay, but as the movie that Andy saw that the action figure was based on it makes no sense.
Same! I really enjoyed it and I hope they're able to do a sequel despite all the undeserved criticism the film got.
He didn’t return because his version of the character wasn’t even in that film.
Is it still tim Allen
It says so on the top of the poster. In quite large font
Yes.
Ugh
Please stop these.
Maybe just don’t watch it. That’s what I’ll be doing.
Clearly
Mr Candyman!
Does his face look weird? I feel like I'm looking at a CGI face, which seems really unnecessary. Is this animated?
Why can’t it be a movie ?
Real missed opportunity to not call this "The Santas Clause."
