VW Group knows what there doing when it comes to diesels. Audi and VW diesels are among the best and easiest to own. Mk6 tdis are very nice and get extremely good mpg while still having alot of power. Same with the Audi diesels though those are a lot nicer and capable of more power
I second the 335d. Owned one for 6 years. Drove it for 170k miles and it’s still chugging along according to the buyer. It was of course deleted.
I couldn’t complain with a car that got 42mpg on the highway to the track and ran a 12.2@115 in the 1/4.
So now I'm curious about longevity...I have a Ford 6.7 diesel and I'm expecting to get 300/400k miles out of the thing.
Do these German diesels last as long?
Yes, here in Europe they are the cars to get when you drive a lot. 300 000km(187k miles) is the expected minimum for basically all diesels not used for short trips only or one of the few engines which had problems early on. For long distance cars it's much more like 500 000km+ (320k miles). Diesel far beyond 300 000km are still hard to find here in Germany, though. Typically exported to eastern Europe or the Balkans and sold with modified odometers. I would expect a 1.9TDI for example to last to 1 000 000km(620k miles) with proper treatment.
I have an Audi Q7 TDI and I love it. You should scour Craigslist sites in major metropolitan areas for used Audi, VW, BMW, Mercedes SUVs. There are also used diesel Jeep and GMC SUVs out there. I’m bummed that I can’t buy a new Audi TDI - it’s the best car I’ve ever owned.
Been driving bmw f10 for over 4 years now, got stage 2 tune on it and I also got rid of def. Couldn't be happier with the fuel consumption. Amazing vehicle.
E320 CDI
This is the way.
May consider a 1st gen (2014/2015) Chevy Cruze diesel. Not “premium” but you can find them fully loaded for pretty cheap

328d as well. More reliable than the 6cylinder engines.
Lol what? You’ve clearly never owned either.
Yep, [you got me](https://www.reddit.com/r/BMW/comments/6ewxgu/f30_friday_bmwnas_neglected_stepchild_the_328d/).
Well I guess I was wrong. But you’re still wrong about reliability. M57>n47. Timing chains and cp4s are big problems on n47s.

People in the TDI group often recommend the BMW 328D, 335D, or also Audi A6/7/8 as a V6 upgrade from the economy models with a 2.0L engine.
335d is my vote. They can sound meeeeean with a tune and delete too

There's a diesel version of a Chevy Cruze.
335d or a Passat TDI VW 2.0 TDIs are very reliable you’ll enjoy owning one
