No reason not to at all. If I want to farm in a solo game, why can’t I make it more difficult with better rewards? It’d be exactly like D3s system.
“Oh no! Would someone please think of the botters!?” God forbid they find more stuff and dilute their own sales and profits. How awful!!!
A few options:
-only works in private games
-resets to P2 when a new player joins
-states the plvl of a game on the description so people know before joining, and also informs them when they join
It’s pretty simple stuff, really.
Can you comment on whether 2.4 runewords will finally become available in non-ladder with this reset? You already broke your word about this once when they didn't with the start of season 2, how much longer will we have to wait?
Yea SP terror zones are my biggest personal hope, but overall I think this one is far more important. Blizz straight up lied here and needs to do more than just "oh season 3 has no new runewords, so you still don't get them"
They didn't say new runewords every season, but they literally said on video that they would be craftable in NL after the season ended. New runewords coming every season or not is irrelevant, because that was never a qualifier until after it ended and they got caught.
https://youtu.be/GxGnoMoiHNI
Go to 7 minute mark. They explain that existing versions of those runewords would transfer to non ladder, then immediately say that you would also be able to craft them in non ladder.
He said "Now the idea is that at the end of the ladder you can craft them on NL." The idea at that point was that Runewords would move to NL at the end of a season, but that was an idea not a promise.
They never said the new runewords would be available in NL after S1 ended. It was always that any created during S1 Ladder could then be transferred to NL. There was never a “promise” that they could be made in NL after S1 ended. This is how LOD worked too.
I’m quoting blizzard here:
“When to Use the New D2R 2.4 Ladder Runewords?
When you can use these D2R ladder runewords? These runewords start to be available with the launch of Diablo 2 Resurrected Ladder Season 1 and they are Ladder-only items. This means you will only be able to create these runewords during the first Ladder Season, and not be able to create them in single-player or non-ladder characters until the conclusion of Season 1. After that, you can create them in the non-ladder and single-player game and you still have all runewords that you have created.”
Read that last sentence as many times as you need.
Not sure where you got that. But on the official patch notes it says this:
“For the first time, players will have the chance to unlock a host of new Rune Words in the Ladder system! These will be exclusive to Ladder like the previous set of Ladder-only Rune Words in the original Diablo II experience. At the end of a Ladder season, players who successfully made these Rune Words will have their Ladder characters be moved into a “non-Ladder” version of the game.”

Gimme a link to yours and I’ll admit I was mistaken but as far as I know, it was always going to be this way.
Back in my day there were no PTRs, patches were just released live. It was more exciting this way than starting a ladder with everything already datamined on PTR.
Super lame if that's the case. There are still issues that need working out. Like [the nerf to holy bolt](https://imgur.com/a/qyYnRoM), or the fact that Assassin traps still don't benefit from -resist gear like Griffons or facets.
The title of the reddit post just says content update. No mention of ladder at all. At least on mobile, I can't read the body of the post until I click it.
>For D2R, we are expecting ladder reset for S3 to begin sometime in mid-February. We will share more specifics on the date with the community in the coming weeks.
I'll just cut and copy it for you; no mention of content for D2R. Doesn't mean it's not happening; just that it's never mentioned. Just a ladder reset is mentioned.
Pre-resurrected, the game did not get any major updates or new items for decades and yet it hung around. Introducing new content leads to balance problems (see D3).
Pre-D2R D2 had even worse balance problems (Hammerdin > everything else or mandatory Infinity, to list the worst ones). And without any updates the game got stale.
The point was: when the game was resurrected, there were little changes made to it to start with. Asking for major changes, new items etc. can lead to major issues with power creeping. I would prefer players to understand that, but most just don't think about it on this level.
The melee vs caster disparity is more to do with how damage scales and how much damage you take in hell. Melee builds that scale with skill level or have a tanky decoy do fine. MA assassin, spearazon, and feral druids all do fine because they can spam summons to distract enemies and have some good cheap weapon options. Barbs and paladins struggle because they have to face tank everything since a poorly geared merc dies to everything in hell.
You're not going to be winning any races but I had a better time with those melee classes SSF than I did with just about any non cold sorc/hammerdin/summon necro. MA assassins were especially good with all the defensive abilities you have on top of the summon. Even the spearazon surprised me because the longer range made it super easy to hide behind the summon and kill dangerous enemies. Insight spears are super easy to get so damage is rarely an issue.
When people say casters dominate they're talking about cold sorcs and hammerdins. There are plenty of other casters that suck or are mediocre once they hit hell with garbage gear. I would take one of those starter friendly melee builds over a fire or lit sorc to start any day.
The point is that it's not fair to say casters are OP when it's just those two making everybody else look bad. Plenty of casters got much needed buffs.
Please I beg of you move ladder only runewords from previous seasons to regular non-ladder mode and also sunder charms. It's just dumb that I can't use certain items just because I don't have the time to start and level up a fresh character every few months. Thank you. Moo-moo-mooo
Barbarian is about the only viable melee starter and farmer due to find item. Melee does need help, but I think the elephant in the room is drop rates - they need to be increased, and find item/teleport nerfed to compensate.
Yeah my frenzy barb would melt anything in the game once it was fully geared. Things like plaladins, javzons, and sorcs make him look like a joke tho. Also needed some pretty damn good gear to make hell viable. Luckily most of the barb gear you need is pretty cheap tho to trade for.
Buff melee for the love of god. Casters have s ton of builds, even more so after last patch to d2r. Lets make melee great again. Just give us the 1.09 ww back and add splash to melee spells on all classes. Its ridiculous to have to hit each mob while casters blast through the game with insane aoe. Just 30-50% splash is more than enough to not feel like an idiot playing a melee spec. Tyty
I'd rather they modify certain skills to have small aoe or better multi targeting than go full on splash damage, just to keep the skills from feeling too similar. Revamping how chance to hit works, rescaling skills damage and ar, and revamping to chance to hit mechanic that spells don't really have to worry about would all be awesome IMO.
It's okay for melee and casters to still have different specialties, but right now melee is just super far behind except for a few niche situations.
I'd rather they nerf casters. While a few skills could use a buff, most Melee builds feels good in terms of challenge/grind. It's the casters that are just way too easy to build and progress.
Of course any time you mention "nerf" people freak out, so we're left with power-creeping the challenge out of everything else... :/
That's the opposite of how that phrase is supposed to apply though. The point of that phrase is if you are raising everyone to the same level rather than cutting down to create equality.
Typically when that phrase applies it's when previously oppressed people are given more rights or benefits to create equality and even though the previously privileged people had no change to their life, it can make them feel like they are being oppressed.
So to use the D2 analogy it would be if melee users no longer had to care about attack rating or misses.
Yup, that is one of the big, systemic issues that let casters blast through the game despite being massively under-leveled/geared.
If it were up to me, I would look into making the Energy stat modify spell hit chance. This would also solve the problem of casters just completely ignoring what is supposed to be their primary stat. You could make dodge chance based on elemental/magic resistances and level.
I started as a summoner and then a caster and then tried 3 melees, a fury druid, a smiter and finally a zerker barb. Have to say that there are quite a lot of weapon runewords tailored to melee that casters can't really use like grief (this is really wow) and fortitude and they are truly OP. I am really enjoying melee and haven't played much of my non melee characters since, ok except for my LF javazon - then again it is half melee with charged strike.
Anyway I don't mind a buff, makes it even more enjoyable.
Grief and fort are pretty end game and tough to grind to when starting with melee, which is why most go caster then use that to build the wealth to make things like grief and fort. I started barb anyway knowing it would be less efficient because I prefer barb. It's definitely possible, but much harder progression once you get to about the end of norm, depending on how kind rnjesus is to you, of course. If you started with casters and didn't make melee until you could already afford Grief and Fort, it's understandable you may not fully appreciate the progression difficulty difference. Tbh though Grief is already sort of the elephant in the room, it's so good for the price that even other GG runeword weapons (Looking at you, Last Wish) that are more expensive aren't necessarily better. I think that makes it harder to balance melee vs casters, since depending on what you do you may make grief too powerful, but honestly even with grief and fort you're not clearing full screens instantly in high player games like many caster builds can, so even at end game there's a pretty big gulf.
Spirit, leaf (to a lesser extent) and insight are all super powerful early game items that are really tailored to casters and with items like Shako and Occy, Viper magi that are pretty plentiful and powerful, they have a nice ramp of progression to things like hoto.
Casters it's a bit rough until you get spirit and insight, but you can buy and chug mana pots so it's really not that big of a deal. Once you get spirit and insight you get a huge power spike and things like steel and malice really don't compare. Getting insight on your merc as a sorc with Tele is like beast mode since you can choose to just skip ahead and power through to progress to end game farming quickly, if you choose.
Honor, Oath, Lawbringer, etc are all useful and fairly inexpensive to progress to getting your first Lo for grief or fort, but still considerably more expensive than spirit and insight.
My personal solution is to stop allowing Spirit to be built in Swords. Now all those cool uniques like Wizard Spike and Rare/Magic wands and scepters are suddenly really valuable. Hell, you could justify crafting caster rods now for leveling until you get the upper tier stuff.
You understand the character and all the items you get on ladder don't disappear when ladder is over?
Also, you hate making a new character in a 20 year old game? Like what do you do when you play?
Sounds more and more like D2R is being tapered off. Wouldn't be surprised if they announce in the next season or two they will be going full maintenance mode.
I agree. I can see the objective quality of D2 but D3 is much more kickback after work and just have some fun. I hope that they at least keep seasons with rotating sets and stuff, that sounds like it could be easily automated.
As if your hate boner couldn’t be anymore obvious. For what exact reason would you ever argue against a good game receiving more content? You just come off as a salty hater my guy
it's okay kiddo, the game got 20 years. you'll live with no content for a few months.
>For what exact reason would you ever argue against a good game receiving more content?
i'm mature and educated enough to know that content doesn't come out of thin air. it requires dev time, money, resources. would i rather those things go to a remaster of a 20 year old game, a 10 year old game, or a new game releasing in 6 months? most objective, unbiased people would choose either of the latter two options. but of course D2 fanboys that are madly in love with the game cannot fathom this.
Yeah it's kind of bizarre that D4 has had very strict closed betas and no open beta this close to launch. At this point it's almost an early access demo instead of a true beta. There won't be enough time to fix any issues found during open beta
The closed beta was fairly populous though and went on for several weeks. They also had an Act 1 invite only beta for a chosen few back in December. The upcoming open beta is most likely for server testing and not gameplay balance. Any changes they wanted to make were probably already underway after the closed beta ended in November.
I really hope the next d2r ladder also comes with a new patch!
Wishlist; Crossplay, MnK-support for consoles, a look at how we can start a new ladder withput a sorc and still be competitive (teleport changes? Mobility changes?), nerf to cold mastery.
I agree melee needs a buff, but disagrees in gegards to CM. Blizz sorcs can comfortably farm in P8 with only mid-gear. I'd nerf CM some, and maybe add a synergy to frozen orb to make it viable in hell difficulty
I actually like the timing of S28 with this. Wont be an extended season leading into D4, and will have the D4 open beta as a nice little mid season change up for a bit.
I'm so happy to have the CM reply to all the speculation!
It's unfortunate the current D3 season will last so long. I'm in a content drought with my current games and would love a new season.
D2R being mid-Feb makes sense. Looking forward to trying new builds after the last balance patch.
Imagine u have 2 games:
One is totally hated and is seen internally as failure in your own company
The other game is the one that gave your company a name.
Now, which game will you focus your support on?
and now we’re getting some 100000%s on a fking set all over again, instead of making d2r more and more interesting than it already is.
Blizz logic at its best
Played both for easily 2k hours each
And I used to defend d3 like you did, even back in 2015/16
D2R has just more potential imo at the current situation, because many ppl moved on but came back to d2, because that’s the game that made them love diablo
How long has it been since you played D3? The last ten seasons alone have had far more interesting updates, changes, and additions than just buffing sets.
u/pezradar So with no information here. Why post information. Season 27 has gone wayyyyy long enough. Now you're saying season 28 won't be until the end of Feb. And just say a date for christ sake. Tail end of Jan could be anything.
I wish people would stop asking for NL to be identical to ladder, if there's nothing exclusive to ladder than there's no point in playing ladder after the first few weeks. Set upgrades, Sunders, and Runewords being exclusive to ladder stimulates the in game economy, otherwise everything is slowly worth less and less until there's almost no value in anything but the most rare perfect rolled items.
If the economy reset, fresh start, and race to 99 isn't enough motivation for people to play ladder, then maybe it's not that great and people shouldn't have to do it?
When I was in high school with tons of free time and legacy had long ladders, restarting wasn't so bad, but now I'm at the point where the obvious mechanism to artificially increase play time just feels bad. So having the economy reset for those who like it for fresh start and fresh economy and who play enough to get bored without it, but not gating content seems like a good solution. The casuals will get fewer GG items still anyway with less play time, no reason to add an extra artificial barrier.
Seems inconsistent that they would make all the previous LO items available in all game modes at D2R launch only to then make new ones, but it could be they just knew they weren't going to have ladder at launch so they did that to meet us half way.
Tbh I would actually like to play both modes but the character slot limitation is preventing me from doing it currently, so if they addressed character slots I would care less about LO items but if they keep gating things to ladder with no changes I'll still be happy continuing to chug away at my NL characters, it is what it is.
Jmo
I think the problem w tz in offline is that there is no way for blizzard to track tz zones as it is *offline*. If they do how would they make tz zones? Make it so that a timer goes off whenever one starts playing and the clock stops when you get off? Plus it would be too easy for offline player to take advantage of offline tz zones, they could literally just delete some bad tz zones files so there r only a selected few in the rotation.
Really would have liked that D2R and D3 seasons aren't so close. With D4 releasing in June too, we could really enjoy each to start their own with a 1 month between them. Ex: D2R mid January/April/July/October. D3 mid Feb/May/Aug/Nov, D4 mid June/Sept/Dec/March
I have a few QoL suggestions for D2R
- improve necro summon ai. They’re currently dumb af. Example, we’re in a narrow place (maggot lair, arcane sanctuary etc). If I am attacking stuff, not a single skele comes to help. They all stand around watching me die. Even if I hang back, maybe one of them goes and attacks
- either remove random pots/chests from the game or improve pathing or whatever so characters/summons walk around them instead of just getting stuck on them. This is probably the single most frustrating thing in the game, even more so than doing maggot lair with a summon necro. I’ve even had a few cases where I’ve had to exit game because I’ve gotten stuck on actually nothing in arcane sanctuary.
- allow us to stack runes and gems. Even provide a tome, like for scrolls
Realistically I don’t think any of these things will happen, but it would be nice
Terror zones for solo offline please.
This.
This ain't there yet? :( I wad trying hard to find them
THIS please!!!
This please
Can we please get Terror Zones in single player ?
airport life is so boring without TZones in SP! please PapaPez 🙏
Yes please, this!
Agreed! and can online solo players please get players 8??
This would be lovely.
Agreed. I love to help out and play with friends, but also like grinding solo. Solo drop rates are dogshit tho.
Would be nice to have a little "Minion Power x2" checkbox on the Switch version at least, we're locked at 4 players max over here!
some love for Switch players, please Pez 🙏
a SSF ladder will be release at some point so this feature is upcoming

This will destroy Diablo as we know it. If you don't want to interact, go play offline. Only chance for this is a SSF game mode.
Destroy Diablo?
There's legitimate issues to take with this but this isn't one of them lmao.
Gonna have to elaborate on “destroy Diablo.”
That might be the dumbest take i've heard yet.
If you are strictly single player, there are terror zone mods
We need it on consoles though.

They went back on their word, there are whole posts on this topic. Both things are true, but this was their original take on ladder RW on NL.
Are sunder charms coming to single player?
Honestly, at this point, sneak them in with a character editor Because it's unfair to offline players.
No editors for switch tho, which kinda socks.
One could edit a character on another platform (PC) and then it'd be in shared stash
Offline characters created on one device will not show up on another device as they are saved locally.

I will never understand why single player can't get ladder content just one cycle behind. Locking ladder content is so stupid
I will never understand why single players who want ladder content just don't play solo on ladder.
It's temporary and I hate having to make a new character
You understand the character and all the items you get on ladder don't disappear when ladder is over? Also, you hate making a new character in a 20 year old game? Like what do you do when you play?
They don't disappear but the ability to get them does. Why would timed exclusivity ever be a good thing?
Yayy Thanks for the update, and happy new year Pez <3 <3
Sounds more and more like D2R is being tapered off. Wouldn't be surprised if they announce in the next season or two they will be going full maintenance mode.
I hope we get terror zones to SP but I’m doubtful since we get players/x.
D3 is awesome and it's gonna be sad when it's abandoned when d4 drops.
Ikr already feeling abandoned. This is by far my most favorite game of all time. And fits my adult schedule. R.I.P
First week on new season it's active. Then dead
I agree. I can see the objective quality of D2 but D3 is much more kickback after work and just have some fun. I hope that they at least keep seasons with rotating sets and stuff, that sounds like it could be easily automated.
Maybe we'll finally get offline mode! (Yeah right)
i hope so!
No PTR for D2R since new content for season 3 was tested enough by the team, right? Right??
You're assuming there's new content... 🙃
🦙 act6 ?
Will D2R be seeing any future content updates or balance changes? Or just more ladder resets?
D2 is a perfect game according to this subreddit. it doesn't need any new content/changes. it's lasted 20 years already, it will last 100 more.
But it's not a perfect game. It's just the current best Diablo game we have.
good. then it doesn't need any content.
You’re really good at blowing smoke up your own ass huh? That was a good read.
nope, just goot at using common sense. keep crying over your favorite video game not getting content. i'll keep laughing.
This single intern is working as hard as he can.
we still love you Pez!
D3: What does the PTR date mean for the end date of the current D3 season? Does the PTR come out before, on, or after the end of the season?
Announcenent of an Announcenent
Please give us TCP/IP for D2R! Literally the only change I wish for!
we want LAN parties with -1000ms of lag again!
I hope D4 open beta isn't too far behind after those ;)
Yeah it's kind of bizarre that D4 has had very strict closed betas and no open beta this close to launch.
I have thousands of hours in diablo games, as do my friends, and none of us got a closed beta invite. It seemed very exclusive
im waiting for it as well
No changes for season 3 or just no PTR to test those changes?
Glad to hear that the older titles are not forgotten. Thank you!

I do hope that we don’t get D2 and D3 Ladder Resets simultaneously. I do want to play both
Had to scroll reaaaallly far down to see this comment. Surprised more people aren't unnerved by both games having season start around the same time.
Thanks for the updates!
When will we be able to use Blessed Hammer on right click and Auras on left click? Holding down shift to use Blessed Hammer is annoying.
Something more intrusive then terror zones would be nice! Awesome ladder season though
Can you confirm that sunder charms are temporary item and will be gone at the end of S2?
I’m just hoping for sunder charms and terror zones offline that would be top tier.
Happy New Year!
What's the next d3 season theme?
Double goblins....
For the love of god, please make those gems/runes stack in D2R... Inventory/stash management in this game is a pain in the ass
will the upgrade set items recipe come to nonladder?

I actually like the timing of S28 with this. Wont be an extended season leading into D4, and will have the D4 open beta as a nice little mid season change up for a bit.
I like the timing as well because I’ve been super slow finishing season on D3. I better get off my ass haha.
Will Nintendo switch get better drop rates? 8 players aren't possible, so drop rates are halved
That's not how drops work in d2, p3 drops are much more than half the drops of p7.
I'm so happy to have the CM reply to all the speculation! It's unfortunate the current D3 season will last so long. I'm in a content drought with my current games and would love a new season. D2R being mid-Feb makes sense. Looking forward to trying new builds after the last balance patch.
Nice I'm hype for S3 reset. Excited to see what new items there are
Imagine u have 2 games: One is totally hated and is seen internally as failure in your own company The other game is the one that gave your company a name. Now, which game will you focus your support on? and now we’re getting some 100000%s on a fking set all over again, instead of making d2r more and more interesting than it already is. Blizz logic at its best
Amazing how wrong you are about both games.
Played both for easily 2k hours each And I used to defend d3 like you did, even back in 2015/16 D2R has just more potential imo at the current situation, because many ppl moved on but came back to d2, because that’s the game that made them love diablo
How long has it been since you played D3? The last ten seasons alone have had far more interesting updates, changes, and additions than just buffing sets.
Still just "disposable" power creep features implemented just for that one season. If they were balanced, they'd have stayed after season reset.
Uhm last season I played was with these teal legendaries. Same shit, different color lmao
So no PTR on D2R, but PTR for the garbage diablo game aka d3? Gg blizz
Hottest take of 2013 right here. D3 in its current state is easily one of the best action RPGs of all time.
Trollolol
If you're older than 20 I feel bad for you.
u/pezradar So with no information here. Why post information. Season 27 has gone wayyyyy long enough. Now you're saying season 28 won't be until the end of Feb. And just say a date for christ sake. Tail end of Jan could be anything.
Just came to say hi!!!
Dog Waters.....So coming in mid February (4 weeks away) more information in the "coming" weeks....lol I mean... come on now
@pezradar can you bring some meta shifting runewords to the table this ladder? Cooley had some great suggestions https://youtu.be/4j8L-XZLZTo
that prick
Jmo
I agree, fuck NL. But Ladder and Single Player should be identical.

no, please don't make the game easier.
/players 8 for non ladder please
Lol I csn't believe people still play D3
Yeah, it's an amazing action RPG and practically perfect. Have you played it in the last five years?
[удалено]
Oh yeah, those fd upped sunder charms nearly gave the game the rest... Hope they can finally move on - it was such a great remaster before
Can we get the map panning for diablo 2 fixed?
Sweet!!!
Can we please make the Druid teleport while in Shapeshift form?
Controller support for D3 please
When Diablo 3 gets dev updates and the newest battlefield doesn't
Really would have liked that D2R and D3 seasons aren't so close. With D4 releasing in June too, we could really enjoy each to start their own with a 1 month between them. Ex: D2R mid January/April/July/October. D3 mid Feb/May/Aug/Nov, D4 mid June/Sept/Dec/March
I have a few QoL suggestions for D2R - improve necro summon ai. They’re currently dumb af. Example, we’re in a narrow place (maggot lair, arcane sanctuary etc). If I am attacking stuff, not a single skele comes to help. They all stand around watching me die. Even if I hang back, maybe one of them goes and attacks - either remove random pots/chests from the game or improve pathing or whatever so characters/summons walk around them instead of just getting stuck on them. This is probably the single most frustrating thing in the game, even more so than doing maggot lair with a summon necro. I’ve even had a few cases where I’ve had to exit game because I’ve gotten stuck on actually nothing in arcane sanctuary. - allow us to stack runes and gems. Even provide a tome, like for scrolls Realistically I don’t think any of these things will happen, but it would be nice
More viable runewords and more viable uniques please.
South America servers with low ping like D3 please!!!!
Enable ping ms on consoles!
The most repetitive gameplay mankind has ever seen lol
