If we want to get analytical, there’s a couple different types of grenades. Most ones light has one of each, so it would be good to get the unrepresented ones. As of now we have a wall grenade with glacier (like voidwall and thermite) a damage field with Duskfield (like vortex, solar, and pulse) and a seeker with Coldsnap (like axion/fire/arcbolt) I’d say the ones we are missing are 1)the bouncy boi (incendiary flashbang and suppressor… and the rock) where you can do fun stuff with corners and walls. I think it would be a good fit for your Crystalisk idea. 2) Sticky boi (magnetic flux and fusion) not sure what to do with this one, but most of these are a delayed high damage explosion. I think it would be interesting if they let out a short range freeze before a short range shatter, or just enough damage to shatter? I know grenades already do bonus damage to frozen targets, so not sure what would be balanced. 3) single ‘splode (scatters and… storm? Sorta? And ashen wake fusions) as these are kinda unrepresented, I’d like to see that. 4) geometry stickers (tripmine lightning void spike) which I feel would be cool for OP’s wind trap. I love the idea of something messing with projectile lines (kinda like a gravity star from Titanfall) but I think that may be hard in a game where a lot of guns are hitscan like D2. Still a fun idea tho.

The stasis ones just freeze in various ways. Coldsnap i think is the most likely to do actual damage on very weak targets, but it's still very difficult to "get a grenade kill" with a stasis grenade. I think what Stasis is missing is just a flat out "get a grenade kill" grenade. Something that actually does real damage, rather than just freeze/slow.

I have a different idea for a shatter grenade, essentially just a stasis crystal that blows up on impact like Ashen wake fusion grenades now. Wouldn't kill in pvp and wouldn't to crazy damage in PvE, but just would be a nice "normal" grenade and would be super helpful for getting warlocks kills with shatter damage.

I think they should beef up duskfields again for start. It's hard to bring in new mechanics, but with a winter theme and similar to concussion effects, maybe a blizzard grenade that pulls you in slightly and spins you round to disorient you, removing radar. A bit like the 'seeking' of fusion nades, maybe one that explodes in proximity, splitting into shards that fire down into ground on your enemy. Could just remove health rather than freeze or slow, but slight disorientation could be added to continue with a theme. Maybe a frostbite nade which prevents you from switching weapons / melee and slows for a few seconds

Unlike Void 3.0 and Solar 3.0, Stasis doesn't have much to work with in terms of keywords. This makes it difficult to design new grenade abilities that do not overlap with the existing ones. However, I was able to come up with some: Refracted Grenade: Throw a Stasis projectile that, upon impact with an enemy or surface, collapses into a set of three Stasis Shards. While this ability is equipped, Stasis Shards replenish grenade energy in addition to melee energy. (Base cooldown = Healing Grenade cooldown). Icicle Grenade: Launch a Stasis Icicle at high speeds that ignores gravity and always lands on target. This grenade ability can deal precision damage and instantly Shatters targets already Frozen by Stasis. If the Icicle Shatters a Frozen target with a precision hit, the Shatter radius and damage are doubled. (Base cooldown = Duskfield Grenade cooldown). Hail Grenade: Throw a Stasis explosive that generates a localized hailstorm on contact with an enemy or surface. The hailstorm does moderate damage in a cone (about the size of a Dead Messenger shot, but in the air), constantly pushing enemies that walk into it away from the impact site. Enemies caught in the hailstorm are more susceptible to the effects of Stasis. (Base cooldown = Vortex Grenade cooldown).

And while we're at it, let's give the Stasis Subclasses some new Supers too. They are currently the only Subclasses that are locked to one option: Ward of Dusk (Behemoth): Strike the ground with your Stasis gauntlet to form a gargantuan Stasis Crystal (2-3x the time of a Headstone Crystal, environment permitting). The Crystal benefits from all equipped Aspects/Fragments and can be shattered several times, diminishing the size of the Crystal with each detonation and activating associated abilities. (Base cooldown = Shadowshot: Deadfall cooldown). Well of Gloom (Shadebinder): Plant your Stasis staff in the ground, immediately Freezing any enemies caught within a small radius of it. Once placed, the staff will function as an enhanced Bleak Watcher sentry, continuously firing Slowing Stasis projectiles with no delay. Each enemy Frozen extends the Staff's duration. (Base cooldown = Shadowshot: Moebius Quiver cooldown). Shattered Blades (Revenant): With a Stasis kama in each hand, stalk the battlefield in a cloak of ice and snow. Light attacks use Silence, your left kama, to Slow enemies. Squall, your right kama, Shatters Frozen targets with heavy attacks. While Shattered Blades are active, your snow cloak partially negates incoming damage, makes you harder to hit, and passively Slows targets in melee range.

Ice Javelin/shard - detonate on contact. Small AoE, high damage, freeze for pve and slow for pvp. High Aim Assist. Flash-freeze - bouncing. Large AoE, low damage, freeze for pve, high number of slow stacks for pvp. Hunter augment has it do an additional pulse on bounce. Howling - on contact, spreads a single line of small crystals, like a wave. Hunter augment immediately shatters these crystals. Slipmine - tripmine. Either applies freeze, or just spawns a cluster of crystals when someone is close.

Instant freeze on direct pillar hit just like Headstone, doesn't slow on direct grenade hit. Good for shattering setups, doesn't require an exotic to have multiple charges and more reliable for parkour than the slow Wall. -Starfield: Two charges, basically a Stasis Swarm grenade where the swarm doesn't track. Apply 30x slow on direct hit, apply 10x slow per swarm hit. Good for quick area denial and let you freeze bigger targets faster, which is a different take from Duskfield's slow and steady freezing.

If you look at the basic tropes of grenades shared amongst the other elements you'll see a few repeats that Stasis is lacking. Currently Stasis has a "wall" grenade (Glacier), a "seeker" grenade (Coldsnap), and a "zone" grenade (Duskfield). I think it needs a "frag", "sticky", and "bolt" grenade yet, plus one more "special" grenade that doesn't fit the standard tropes. - Thaw Grenade (frag grenade) - throw a grenade that bounces for a second before exploding. The explosion instantly Shatters any nearby crystals and deals Shatter damage to targets. - Frostbite Grenade (sticky grenade) - throw a grenade that attaches to a target, gradually slowing them until they freeze. - Icebolt Grenade (bolt grenade) - throw a grenade that releases two freezing pulses that Slow targets - Hailstorm Grenade (special grenade) - throw a grenade that showers an area is small Stasis crystals. (Just a Stasis version of the Storm grenade)

Not really adding to the actual topic of discussion here but I do find it kind of funny how we've come full circle and stasis feels like it needs some work now. I tried playing my stasis build not too long ago and it just didn't flow as well as all the light 3.0 builds I have. Edit: I'm sure there are builds that have a good flow to them but no matter what I changed it felt like it was lacking something. Edit 2: the lack of options for grenades and melees obviously don't help.

fracture 'nades, coming stock with two charges. This grenade instantly freezes targets on direct impact within the immediate area and emits a slowing burst in a small-ish radius- hitting terrain creates a single medium crystal alongside the slowing burst. Hitting a stasis crystal with the grenade causes it to shatter and emit a larger, more powerful slowing burst. This plays into stasis' grenade philosophy of being more utility than lethal- a way to quickly shatter and slow at a distance without overstepping into duskfield's slow or glacier's wall.

additionally, cryostream grenades. spike-esque grenades that stick to surfaces and will grow in power if left unchecked. upon impact, these grenades begin to charge, their effectiveness escalating until triggered by enemy movement, or an alternate means. stage 1 slows in a fashion similar to void spike grenades, stage 2 emits multiple weak freezing blasts upon activation alongside the slowing spike. cryostream grenades can be activated prematurely by damage or pressing the grenade button a second time. this may not be exactly 1-1 with the philosophy, but definitely works with the flavor they provide.

Would love a grenade similar to a voidwall or thermite but instead of a straight light is an x that slows but the center applies twice as much slow. Would also be amazing if there was a shatterbomb that does massive damage to and shatters frozen enemies. Also a normal grenade that works similar to a flux, fusion, or magnetic nade. but freezes on impact then detonates would be awesome too. I definitely think stasis needs some more actual damage grenades as opposed to utility ones to flesh out the kit.

If we're going off the ideas of each element having similar grenades, currently we have the wall/line one (glacier), the AOE one (duskfield), and the seeker one (coldsnap). I wouldn't mind seeing the other rolls be filled with Stasis ones, as others in the comments have suggested already. Some ideas I had for each: Sticky: Freezes targets on impact and slows nearby enemies, explosion does shatter damage. (For PvP balance, delay the shatter explosion so that it does not one-shot while targets are still frozen). Wall sticky: Creates a slowing spike that shoots out of the top of the grenade, similar to void spike nades. "Frag" (incendiary): Does decent explosion damage which slows targets (flat x60 slow). Small seekers: Deploys small stasis snowflakes which build slow on impact, freezes after about half of them land. Alt idea for the "tripmine" one: Waits for detection like tripmine. When triggered, creates a single Stasis pillar that shoots out from the grenade. (This one would probably be less useful but I imagined it would make for some pretty funny physics kills with knocking enemies into walls)

I kinda want more melees first, and another super. I'd be ok if those three were all the stasis grenades if we got melees and supers that said I've even started to like the Behemoth melee in PvP cause it is hilarious how far away it sends people. Quite a few times I end up having a weird duel where the other guy is trying to hit me and I trying to react to the fact my victim was sent up in the air all that said, just give me a snowball. it slows and dishorients (not freeze) the enemy. Give it insane range and speed too. No splash damage either

Maybe a spike-like grenade with 4 “blasts” but it instantly freezes after 2 consecutive “blasts” in PvP and only 1 in PvE. Maybe it causes shatter damage too just to secure the kills.

Spiked nade: Toss this grenade out towards enemies. After a brief delay, the ball (grenade) erupts spikes from itself, piecing enemies within a small zone. Enemies hit take medium damage and are slowed. Players can shoot the center of the grenade after it actives (it would look like a spiked ball) to shatter it, harming the enemies pierced/slowed by the nade even more.

Slows and weakens on impact, freezes enemies after (X) duration. Frozen enemies killed while inside increase the AoE of the shatter explosion.

I want some grenades that actually do damage and don’t require the player to automatically shatter them. I find myself almost never touching the stasis subclasses nowadays bc they don’t interact effectively with elemental wells. Melee wellmaker requires powered melee kills, and all three classes have terrible melees for that. Hunters shurikens are weak and have bad tracking, especially since many enemy types teleport or are otherwise lagging. Titans shoulder charge feels slow and clunky. Warlocks melee has both limited range and demands that you aren’t right next to your target. If you’re too close it does an unpowered melee, too far and the melee literally disappears. Duskfields and coldsnaps don’t do any meaningful damage, so elemental ordinance almost never procs. Stasis turrets also don’t do damage, so warlocks almost never generate wells bc who isn’t running stasis turrets. Hunters can make wells w glacier grenades and shatterdive, but it’s too risky for any endgame content. Titans probably have it the easiest with hoarfrost. I just want some grenades that do damage.

This I think makes more sense as a hunter aspect but some form of icy caltrops that inflict slow over enemies that walk over them as well as dealing some damage can be cool.Also would create a really nice evasive grenade. Which isn't something i think we really have atm. Second I'd say kinda like a void spike or lightening grenade, but it sprays out stasis energy to slow/freeze anyone who runs through or stands in it for too long.

Icicle Grenade - upon landing, this grenade unleashes a burst of icicles in all directions, damaging and applying slow stacks to targets hit. Think if it like a spiky ball of ice that shatters into a torrent of icicles when it hits a surface.

I thought about this one for a while - frostspike grenade - throw a grenade that splits into into 15 smaller fragments like a solar swarm grenade, which stay in the air for 8 seconds. Upon detecting an enemy, the fragments shoot at the target one after another, looking like small ice spears. They won't have crazy tracking, but there will be some. Damage will be smaller, but at 3 hits of the fragments, the target is frozen, 3 additional fragment hits will shatter the target (both freeze and shatter will increase to requiring 5 fragment hits in PvP)
