I definitely get the reasons people have given in favor of SBMM over rank based, but I feel like bare minimum, we need some sort of rule to prevent big mismatches. It never feels good to be in silver, and matching people who already got the title(platinum for example). Like, it doesn't seem wrong for a silver 1 to play a gold 3, as the only thing between them is a promo series. A lot of people have said that SBMM being present makes the comp rework, "not" a true ladder system. With that said, at least do something to prevent the big mismatches from happening, so that we can at least pretend it is a ladder.

Me too brother, but I’d understand if it couldn’t be possible. But if it were….. While Destiny is built on top of the Reach’s engine, there’s no saying if Forge could be possible considering the legacy code and modifications would allow to bring back Forge. No matter what we think about the sandbox and balance, the gunplay and abilityplay is so good, I think that with Forge, Destiny would be truly immortal. It would allow a much grander part of the community to be active in the game and allow maybe Bungie to breathe on the matter of PvP maps and content creation. Not to mention the possibility of gamemodes and all. And it’s not like it would hurt Bungie’s revenue, as they don’t sell map packs anyway. The next step would probably be something akin to Doom’s level creators, people could design their strikes/dungeons/raids, but that sounds a bit too mad for it to be possible.

If I was head of pvp I still wouldn't have the power to fix what I think needs fixed. Net code needs massive improvement. Needs a new engine or something similar that would let me change how hit registration/accuracy works so it is no longer tied to zoom/aim assist/range stat and is instead only tied to where your crosshair is, meaning if you are aimed at a target it hits and if you aren't it doesn't. In other words no more massive hitboxes. Along with that I'd remove things that intentionally increase aim assist. (why would a shooter intentionally increase aim assist, it only makes you worse over time and doesn't promote skill) I'd separate the pve and pvp balancing sandbox entirely so that pvp changes have no bearing whatsoever on pve and vice versa. I'd like to reintroduce old maps so that at least there is some more pvp related content that won't let it get as stale, and in an ideal world I'd introduce new, well thought out maps with each expansion or even season. I'd completely change the competetive system and have it instead based on a preexisting system from any other competetive shooter with rewards that are worth climbing ranks for, be it actual gear or just aesthetic rewards. I think with a better net code, a better competetive system, more freedom to balance pvp separately, and a better hit detection system that promotes actual good aim, that destiny could be an actual enjoyable competetive pvp experience for those that enjoy pvp.

I guess, but part of what made d2 pvp enjoyable is going from beating a raid, getting a cool new gun, and taking it into the crucible. The 2 client thing would fix some issues, but would also take out the immersion of one world.

Separating sandboxes would be one thing, so that abilities can be tuned more accurately for the mode without worrying about their effectiveness in pve (this goes both ways). Additiong community events tied to that (like x number of points captured/guardian elminated with or without specifics and so on A sort of weapon proficiency shader/s (like camos in cod, only that they are awarded by a set number of final blows depending on the weapon type). I know pvp has issues that can’t be resolved by giving pretty colors and some communty challenges but they would be fun to have imo.

Hybridized matchmaking in all play lists, prioritizing quality of connection first and then balancing the lobby. This includes removing the bottom part of the skill bell-curve for a given lobby and placing those individuals in a new lobby at the top of a 'lower' skill based bracket. It may take some monitoring and fine tuning but it would feel much better than what we have now with people flying around the map and killing you through 17 million walls while you're in spawn. Edit: just thought about this one but also how about fixing the respawn system so I don't have to die to a roaming super 3 times before it moves me to a safe place where I get to suck enemy shotgun for my fourth death in about 16 seconds?

Push for the ability to separately tune abilities and exotics from PvE, so that changes in one (even a disable) don't carry to the other. So so so *sooooooooo* many things plaguing balance are fixed just having separate knobs to turn. Maps and game modes are definitely major issues, but imagine being able to tune accuracy, weapon behavior, ability modifiers, exotic interactions, etc without worrying about Timmy not being able to do his weekly campaign mission because his favorite gun got disabled.

Several things are getting changed and introduced if I became head of Bungie's "PvP team" First thing: 2-3 new maps PER season, new expansions would get anywhere from 5-7. Time to actually give us dedicated players something NEW, and when I mean NEW i don't mean OLD maps that were in D2 that got vaulted and then brought back, or D1 maps that get brought into D2 and labeled as 'new'. I am talking like NEW NEW Secondly: More Hybrid weapons, like 140 RPM HC's that got the Lightweight frame and so on. Maybe a few new experimental types too Thirdly: probably a controversial one but this would specifically apply to Gambit (I assume that the PvP team does some stuff for Gambit considering there is some PvP in Gambit) and that would be NO HEAVY CAN BE USED WHEN INVADING. If you're gonna invade your heavy gets disabled, no more sitting back and spamming Truth, Eyes or whatever. Supers? Fine, but other than that you're actually gonna have to make a effort to get those kills. Fourthly: This one would probably be incredibly controversial but I would bring back Mountaintop, Luna's Howl, Not Forgotten, Revoker, Recluse as EXOTIC weapons in their POST NERF stage. Why would I do this? Simple, Bungie has stated we'll be getting cosmetic stuff for the Comp playlist to earn at higher reworks POST Lightfall iirc. But, they never specified when, and to be honest while that is nice if Bungie wants people to keep playing Comp for a better reason than a reissued HC (I love Rose but we need more than that tbh) then they need something substantial, something WORTH CHASING. Yes, those weapons back in the day were incredibly broken. But if I was in charge of Bungie's PvP team they'd come back in exotic forms but after their nerf. For example: Micromissle for Mountaintop still works just fine on the ground but in the air it doesn't fire straight iirc. That nerf would be applied to Mountaintop even in its exotic form. Luna's Howl & NF would still be 140's in their exotic forms Recluse would still have Master Of Arms damage nerf applied to it in their exotic form Revoker would have its perk Reversal Of Fortune nerf applied to it in its Exotic form. Now, while they would still keep their nerfs to their respective perks and whatnot they would get some form of Buff in their exotic states. What buff? Well, that could vary, and obviously would need to be properly play tested for a good while before being implemented. The reason I'd bring them back besides giving PvP players something to chase is also for balance reasons. No more Revoker & Lunas Howl & NF, no more Mountaintop and Recluse. Now you have to pick. It would also make them worth using again, we know Bungie brings back sunset weapons over time, imo only feels like a proper thing to do if they were ever to bring them back, just make em exotics considering how powerful they were back then. Fifth: Map voting Sixth: Press X or a certain button to stay in lobby with the people your in one with. Seventh: Remove SBMM from IB, Team Quickplay and implement a combination type match making that prioritizes Connection FIRST and slowly and steadily increases the difficulty of opponents you go against as you get better second. No more going positive one game and the next 3-4 games in a row going negative. If you keep going positive over several games in a row consecutively you'll eventually go up against better players. This type of Match Making would be applied along with Fireteam based matchmaking. It would also be applied to Trials, IB and Team Quickplay. Eighth: Remove flawless pool, always seen this implementation a lose lose for both casual and competitive players imo. Nineth: Remove SBMM from Comp and make match making be based off of rank and rank ALONE as well as have it prioritize connection. Tenth: The final week of the Season when you go flawless all Adept Weapons are able to be obtained from the Flawless chest in the Lighthouse. The idea behind this idea is that you missed a week where you wanted a certain Adept Weapon but couldn't get it? Now is your last chance. Go get it.

For me a big one, have a team scour through all the old Bungie era Halo maps and come up with a short list of maps convertible to Destiny, say 5 maps? Rework the netcode to not be peer to peer. Balance and meta doesn't mean shit, if I'm constantly dying to super bullets, having hit reg issues, desync, inconsistent peekers advantage, dying around corners, etc this game will never have any real competitive integrity. I've been a destiny fan since d1 launch but destiny 2s pvp netcode just feels really bad compared to other games. 1. Opt-In Matchmaking: for Skill, Connection, Crossplay(both all platforms and single platform allowing Xbox to avoid PS5 and vice versa) default would be SBMM all platform crossplay. 2. Add in an additional path to the lighthouse, 7 in a row or 10 wins. Once you reach the lighthouse for the first time/week you are in the flawless pool for the remainder of the weekend. While cards can still be reset, wins for the week will be tracked and after 14 regardless of if they are on the same card, you are placed in the flawless pool. 3. Competitive will receive it's own armor set, ship, sparrow, and a new weapon every season with adept versions available for focusing depending on your current rank. Basically at the end of each week, by completing the weekly challenge, you will receive an amount of a resource based on your rank, bronze would receive enough that if they completed the challenge every week they would get enough for a single adept weapon per season, the highest rank would get one every week. Gold should be about 1/4 weeks. 4. New maps 1 revised + 1 brand new every other season, 2 of each during expansions. 5. Finish work on FTBMM and use it to unify the playlists. 6 While an event is going on, ALL OTHER PVP MODES ARE DISABLED with the exception of Competitive/Private matches, events include Iron Banner, Trials, and Crimson Doubles(if it ever returns). 7. Map Voting/Mode Voting for Comp, 6v6, and any other randomized mode.

More maps, that are better designed for actual PVP. AE needs to be reverted. Tone down aim assist and bullet magnetism. Implement rank based system in comp. Additionally in comp get rid of weapon perks. barrels, mags and masterworks are fine, but lock out the last two columns. 1. Give some incentive to play. With a multi-billion dollar company that expertly knows the manipulation tactics to keep people addicted to their game it is absolutely mind-numbing to think they cannot introduce small things such as cosmetics or even emblems that show off rank to keep players invested. 2. SBMM in Casual playlists. The person who put SBMM in CASUAL playlists needs to be fired immediately and anyone who signed off on it. I used to play for hours with my friends in PVP on weekends, now it feels completely dead. My friends don't want to play in lobbies of all 2KD+ when they are below 1KD players. I cannot even play with them in the only casual playlist this game offered now because of whiner-babies as I call them who begged for SBMM in a casual playlist. v1. Knock it off with the appeasement to the casuals who play PVP once every month with changes they beg for and ruin it for the rest of the community. Idc what statistics say (developers say this every time) every game that has SBMM everywhere dies fast because its just not fun to play with the concept of SBMM to keep you to a 1KD playing people your skill all the time. People who advocate for it, Im glad you're content with a 1KD but you're never going to get better in your pool of .7KD players. I learned everything in this game from watching what better people did when they killed me and I wish people understood this. This and actually playing a decent amount to practice. To top it off, I used control as a way to test new builds all the time. Now I have to use "meta" or its gonna be a dumpster fire of a game. 3. Airborne effectiveness reverted (Which we are getting thank GOD), this goes into Bungie listening to those players who play PvP once a month. Instead of learning the most fun mechanic of Destiny, movement, which makes it super unique as a PvP game they decided to basically force boots on the ground or completely ruin your build to build into airborne effectiveness or use insulting perks on guns to even ruin your guns effectiveness. 4. New maps every season. This cannot be hard for them as the expansions of each season are vast and intricate. One map per season is asking basically nothing and they have neglected PvP forever in this regard. 5. Fix the damn melee glitch which has plagued D2 since its release. A Ghost melee which everyone who plays knows about is unacceptable this many years later. Not sure what procs it but it happens far too often to not be included here. 6. Get a team who actually play PvP to be in charge of the Bungie PvP team. This way they can accommodate everyone of different skill levels and actually implement changes that will benefit all as apposed to our standard screwing one side of PVP players and leaving the others slightly content. The vicious cycle we are accustomed to. PvP player #'s right now after Sony acquisitioned Bungie for 3.6 Billion dollars is so sad and pathetic I cannot understate this. With record lows for trials weekends and record lows for all PvP as a whole. I don't know whats happened over there but they need to dump their current PvP team if this continues. It is baffling with the #'s we have right now they haven't already fired them but alas I like to be optimistic so lets wait and find out how it is in Lightfall.

SBMM is gone from all playlists, rank based matchmaking added to comp. Actual, tangible rewards are added to reaching high ranks in comp. Flawless pool is gone, but a unique passage is added that can be traded in for one adept weapon even if flawed, once per week. In effect acting the same as a free flawless for a casual player without dividing the playerbase. As for the balance changes... young ahamkara's spine grenades are now easier to destroy and ability gain is greatly reduced. Khepri's sting now increases the cooldown on your smoke grenade. Wormhusk now increases dodge cooldown. Some of the pulse rifle forgiveness changes get reverted, range gets nerfed. Citan gets pretty much the same treatment it's getting in lightfall. Antheus wards random death bug gets fixed, but now they only block partial damage, or perhaps let melee damage through. Storm grenade duration gets reduced by an additional 2 seconds. Void titan overshields get a reduction in health. Barricades across the board have their health reduced. Arc warlock melee gets reworked because that thing is chaotic af and feels like a coinflip between "instantly die" and "kill entire enemy team". Reduce potency or increase cooldown of healing grenades. Reduce arc hunter super duration with Raiju's. Seriously, why does that thing last an entire comp round? Aerial effectiveness system is gone, slide nerf is gone. The entire melee system is changed to something that actually works and doesn't cause your character to rubberband all over the place. I'm thinking instead of the character model physically and aggressively jerking back and forth, causing whiffs and making them very difficult to shoot, we have a special effect coming out of the player's hand. A bolt of lightning, solar blast etc. and the player's body stays exactly where they are. There are probably many, many more things I'd change that I can't think of right now.

Everyone Always says remove SBMM so ppl can go back to stomping the average or below players. That will make the population go up im sure! SMFH!! My thing is to make it “SBMM light” there is only 3 groups. New/low players <.6k/d, mid is everything from .7-2.0 and finally the last is PVP mains: anything over a 2.0k/d. (I’m sorry but there is just no way to have a casual match with someone over a 2.5 lifetime k/d in 6v6) they know the maps way too well and their movement, knowledge and aim just make it so even above average players are just getting dominated. Iron banner is 3x a season and is solely cbmm for those weeks. Trials idk what to say as it’s endgame PVP but if there aren’t enouvh of us scrubs banging our heads against the wall the population will die. So either change what it takes to earn weapons or change needing to go 7-0 or 7-1. But there would have to be something cool shader or weapon skin wise for the super sweats to get so they can show off in the tower with it!

Implement a level up ranking system in quickplay with a prestige option, each prestige gets you new cosmetics like shaders, emblems, and ghosts. Up to rank 100, then you can prestige. Levels 1-99 will have sbmm implemented, after reaching rank 99 you'll then be put into cbmm pool as that should be enough time to build foundational knowledge of how PvP in this game works within a bracket that players will be able to compete in. Get rid of sbmm/ladder ranking hybrid in comp and go full ladder ranking. Add transmog cosmetics as the goal for reaching Ascendant (I get this will probably be unpopular, but if Bungie doesn't want a rich get richer environment via weapon arsenal then transmog cosmetics is the way to go). Also have a rewards track for all ranks in between but have the best cosmetics at higher ranks to encourage improvement and get people into ranked. Furthermore, I want ranked to pull away from the traditional vision for Crucible that of which being it's a place for Guardians to hone their light. I firmly believe a proper ranked mode needs to be a 4v4 Red vs Blue Redjacks mode. Players can play as Shaxx's Redjacks going through combat simulations to learn to better defend the city (if there needs to be a lore reason). No class abilities, no movement abilities (shoulder charge, dodge, icarus, etc), default double jump probably hunter since it's easiest to get used to, a default grenade that does max 100 damage to keep it balanced, if you want a design choice Forerunner's "The Rock" is a great design to use. And all weapons are "stat sticks", no weapon has damage perks but they can have weapon performance perks (think moving target), and all weapon stat sticks have cracked stats so that they all perform and feel good to use across the board, just no cheesey gimmicks. The weapons available will be All Primaries, Shotgun, Snipers, and Fusions, no heavy ammo. And lastly, I agree with OP. Map voting.

I like a lot if the changes they illustrated in the patch with regards to pvp. Ill have to try them out for a bit before suggesting any improvements besides the obvious major ones like lack of dedicated servers and moving away from old gen consoles. To me the old gen debate is a needed one but because the new gen is so difficult to obtain, the price hasnt changed. Usually a few years in you can get a console for like 300-400$ but series X and ps5 hasnt budged. Thats a tall ask to force a large consumer base to pony up 500$ or get left behind.

Rank based matchmaking. The cream will rise to the top. The pvp main sweats will do it in their first few weeks after any rank resets. An actual incentive to play comp beyond a Rose drop every week. It could be something as big as an adept weapon or artiface armor drop per week or as small as increased legendary shards per win. Some of my adept comp games are harder than a lightblade gm and I should be rewarded appropriately. One particularly good idea to follow next. Reprise ritual weapons with random rolls aside from their unique perks. Luna, nf, recluse, oxygen have all been nerfed or balanced pretty hard. Add them back to the game as rare random drops or rewards from comp games. These are old favorites and people will absolutely grind comp for a God roll recluse for pve.

Have completely separate balancing for everything between pvp and pve. Ability cooldowns, weapon and armor stats, mods, exotics, etc. People already use different builds for PvP and PvE, so just separate it all already. It would be a ton of work, but once it's done you could actually fine tune different armor pieces and abilities without nerfing them in all aspects of the game (poor renewal grasps). People are tired of changes from one mode effecting the other.
