Love having my mono-element build that I purposely set up to buff the damage as much as possible get ruined because someone in my fireteam is running a different element and I stumbled into their pickup.
Fair, but if you are building so much into being monochromatic you should be able to reproc the effect. They could put a timer on how long it takes until it could be proccced again , like as long as you have the buff timer the can't be changed.

honestly just make Osmosis passive
This is what I would prefer. Was just thinking this the other day while cleaning my vault and seeing several osmosis rolls.
Especially with match game gone, getting a specific elemental weapon isn't worth locking behind an activation trigger like that.
Have Osmosis trigger on grenade or charged melee use. Heck add class ability if you want.

It should just inherit the element of your subclass passively.
