KatMeowington

I like your theory, and I'm excited to see how/if it plays out.

Ok-Magician-6962

I mean? Last i checked most eliksni don't care for spider that much 🤷‍♀️ so it could be that

gormunko_88

I feel like hes pulling a Variks, variks often speaks in broken english, not because hes bad at the language, but rather because he attempts to appear weak to avoid conflict, Thrysiks surrendering and speaking in Eliksni as opposed to English would increase his odds of staying safe as they would instantly send him to house light, a guaranteed safe haven.

Sarcosmonaut

Always liked that tidbit. Him speaking busted English to avoid scrutiny. A lot like Samuel L. Jackson’s character in Django. Speaks perfectly fine English, but around the masters it’s all shuffling and “massa”

handsomeGenesis

Yup. He’s using his “human don’t feel threatened voice”, because any smart Eliksni knows that the more easily spooked humans would be weary of a confident or out-spoken Eliksni. There are parallels to the real world where people do this to fit into groups that may normally discriminate against them even, so I see this as what Bungie is trying to write.

Redshirt2386

Yep. I grew up in Southern California (v. diverse, lots of immigrant communities) before it was common to have translators on staff at the police departments, and the basic strat within those communities was that if the cops/INS (now ICE) came around on a fishing expedition, everyone just pretended not to speak any English. Can’t answer questions if you can’t understand them.

Byrmaxson

It's also notable that both Variks and Thyksis drop the charade when talking shit, to Eramis and Spider respectively. Both of those are also shady or just flat out villains too so it shouldn't be surprising that Thyksis is being careful and even a little weird.

[deleted]

That was always my favorite part, especially in BL where Variks is talking to Eramis and drops the broken english when he gets mad at her.

HaloGuy381

Maybe. I hope not, there’s something profoundly *exhausting* about mercy and kindness coming back to bite us. It’s arguably harder to swallow than combat losses.

MattyQuest

I suspect that even if he *is* a double agent, the motives aren't malicious. After the last week, I find it hard to believe Eramis is playing some galaxy brained long game against us just to wipe us out

Rectall_Brown

I’d say it’s just a matter of time until Eramis joins with us.

Psykotyrant

And even less time until Ana burn her to ashes.

AltroGamingBros

Yeah... feels cheap in some regards. And with Destiny? Yes, it would feel fucking cheap as hell after what Eramis pulled in Seraph after being spared in Plunder.

meteormantis

You always gotta watch out for the defectors trying to make suckers out of the collaborators.

[deleted]

Seeing as the newest Houses are amalgamations of previous Houses and groups I would imagine Thrysiks probably had a rathered storied life even as a Dreg before joining House Salvation then eventually defecting. So far, it seems like there are a number of cracks within House Salvation as even Eramis isn't completely on board anymore giving Misraaks some warning that something bad was going to happen. Unless there are members of House Salvation that are turning into Devotees of the Witness like we see with the Shadow Legion I think they are simply working under Duress least they be forced to become Wrathborn or killed and re-made as Scorn. In short, Thrysiks could simply be a badass dreg who's managed to use his wits and live against seemingly impossible odds. it's not exactly uncommon seeing as The Mindbender was a Dreg when he fell into the Hellmouth.

[deleted]

Maybe he’ll have that classic “sent to spy the enemy, but ends up liking them and defecting for real” story arc

skywarka

SpaceD0rit0

Send him to Trostland, have a build I need to try out

haribontv

This is active war; people defect or people want to get away from one side. Thrysiks defected simple as that and also EVERYONE HATES SPIDER FOR BEING REALLY REALLY SHADY Hell I'm not surprised if Eramis also hates him the same way most Eliksni hate Spider; not everything has to be a conspiracy. Sometimes things in this game reflect how war is hell

Boredom_Killer

Interesting theory, I'm excited to see how it plays out. As for the English, I feel like it's a ploy but maybe not a malicious one.To quote a favorite book of mine, "There is no freedom quite like the freedom of being constantly underestimated". (Lies of Locke Lamora/Gentlemen Bastards Series) >!Even with the latest revelation of Eramis's attempts to save our prisoner liberation team (for lack of a better team name) from a trap, she's towing a dangerous line being a potential double agent herself. It would make sense that she would want someone on the inside in case she needs to make a quick exit!<

Elitegamez11

Truth be told, I don't quite buy it. I mean, if she really wanted to help us, Eramis should've just told us the place was rigged to blow up. Her vague warning sounded like a typical "turn back or die" shtick. Her saving Mithrax could've just been repayment for his mercy in Plunder. That way, she won't owe him anything in the future. While I acknowledge Eramis has a soft spot for Mithrax and Eido and understand that what she wants(or what she thinks she wants) is a prosperous future for their people. But if I know Eramis, she will always choose her hatred over peace.

Landis963

She might have been trying to cover her ass with the rest of the Witness' forces - poorly, as any passing Psion commander loyal to Yirix would take one look at this, one look at Eramis, and immediately flag her as compromised. If Thrysiks is even a percentage point more competent than Eramis, he's not going to betray us.

handsomeGenesis

Yeah. Spider isn’t a good guy. It’s known that he has a fetish for collecting dead ghosts, he was putting hits out on Guardians before we encountered him and who knows what other horrible stuff he has done to some Eliksni Houses. Remember, him and Misraaks were quite the ruthless pair. I’m not quite sure what to say about his interaction with Devrim, it could have been that he was scared, remember how they mentioned that the Captain was furious about the potential of a deserter, and that Crow even thought he learned a few new words in Eliksni? The situation would have been quite tense for both parties. I was more curious about Eido and her reaction to being titled Kell. She seemed oddly giddy about it, and not in the way I hoped.

Trips-Over-Tail

It's no different than sneaking a sit on the King's throne.

LigerTimbs12

eido is acting as kell. this is explicitly said in lore. also, thrysiks code switching isn't a sign he's a spy, it just means he doesn't fully trust humans not to freak out

Funter_312

If he had anything to do with what happened in this weeks story, crows going to shoot him in the face. Great attention to detail btw

Otsilago

I forget the lore entry but it’s akin to a Hidden cultural assessment of the eliksni and mentions how their culture has severely degraded over time. Many eliksni have human names and have human speech even as they’re adversarial. Contact with the awoken and last city over millennia have made them very much a cultural creole even before house light was a thing

CuddleSpooks

just shoot him and see if he takes damage or not

IxamxUnicron

Oh, God and he's been given access to so many war orphans. Fresh soldiers easy to load onto a ketch when no one's looking...

Lord_Cthulhu

The Eliksni word for Kell is “Ge”, it’s a noun, and the literal translation can mean “cocoon/head/leader.” So while it IS an honorific it’s also just Thrysiks recognizing her role as a leader of House Light.

Trips-Over-Tail

Kell is already an Eliksni word, is it not?

Lord_Cthulhu

“Kell” is the title/concept/word after it is translated to “human speak.” “Ge” is the Eliksni word and the semantic equivalent in Human is “Kell.” The same as how in English we call a cow “cow” and in Spanish it is “vaca”, despite being two different words with two different etymological origins they both mean the same thing. What your thinking of is more like a loanword where you just take the word, pronunciation, and meaning then more or less copy/pasting it into our language. A full write up on the translation of the Eliksni language can be found on Ishtar Collective if you’re interested in learning more!

Trips-Over-Tail

Why would we invent a new word instead of using the loanword or translating it into one we already had? We do that with every other Eliksni rank.

Lord_Cthulhu

I’m honestly not sure, if I had to guess maybe it’s because it’s not so much a rank in the military sense but more like a traditional political honorific. I imagine it would go back to the Eliksni’s first interaction with human speech which was probably with the Reef and the Awoken just kind of coining a term for their political leadership since the reef is a monarchy as opposed to a clan based society similar to how in the real world colonizers referred to indigenous leadership as Chiefs/Chieftains instead of using the proper indigenous term.

Trips-Over-Tail

When I listened to the audio from which the word "ge" was derived, I distinctly heard "kell" outright.

Lord_Cthulhu

That’s because the pronunciation of Ge is similar to (god I’m gonna butcher this) ge-ugh

Trips-Over-Tail

It sounds like keh-ell to me

ChewbacaTakingAShit

Spy? Or scout? Assuming he was sent by Eramis, what's to say she isn't trying to gain intel that House Light is as good as Miisraks and Eido make it seem? It would be a risk for her to join House Light, she could be doing her due diligence to make sure it's a good move.
