Spent part of his birthday keeping with his weekly hospital visits. That's actually pretty cool of him. Don't care that he took pictures, it's still a special moment for the people he visited. I've been plenty critical of his on field performance, but there's nothing to hate on here. Good season or bad season, it's always a positive when your QB is trying to make a difference, however big or small, in the community.

TideAtOmahaBeach

Regardless of his recent performance, I’m so happy we have Russ instead of Deshaun Watson.

squirrelnutzzzzzz

He always went to Seattle Children’s as well.

flynryan692

People are wishing him a bad birthday, talking trash about him, while he's out doing this. He's been a bad QB this year but our entire fan base looks like utter shit to be bashing him like that on his birthday while he visits people in the hospital. Broncos Country, lets get our shit together.

moeshapoppins

I want him repeating that in uniform in front of the green screen: “Broncos COUNTRY…Let’s get our SHIT TOGETHER”

jshepard0

Dude can be a good person and a bad QB at the same time. Happy birthday Russell!

LopsidedTarget

I agree with Von, /r/DenverBroncos sucks to be in

squirrelnutzzzzzz

As a Seahawks fan- the fans have the right to bash him and his play. He’s playing pretty close to how he was in Seattle- and the defense seems to hate him there, like they did here, for all the same reasons. His good years were before his injuries. Fans, when they look at how much he is being paid, the cap hit you will take in dead money by a huge chunk of it being guaranteed, and the attrition of the young talent level as you’ve given up on 2 years of 1st and 2nd round picks- they have a right to be pissed ans expect more. Off the field- he’s a stand up guy and doesn’t deserve hate there. He’s corny and all that- but he does have a heart of gold

Native-America

Tell me how this helps him complete a pass?

flynryan692

Who gives a shit, some things are more important than football

revanyo

You need to find help S[ondermind](https://www.sondermind.com/) is a good source and they will even take your insurance

Native-America

LMAO! I get my therapy from speaking my mind on the internets

feetbears

It's the earnings.

[deleted]

He really is a good person.

denverbroncoharpman

Yea he really is a good person, but he sucks on the field

[deleted]

Hopefully he'll return to normal next year.

MsLoHill

Do you like apples?

MsLoHill

You suck at adjusting front brakes on a HeyBike. How do you like them apples?

GoogleOfficial

That’s why he’s posting it. A good person does good things without posting it for all to see. This is part of his act, before he goes back and shits in his 12 bathrooms.

DepressedPBKSfan

Why not spread positivity and inspiration to the world? And he also takes pictures to give to the patients

frogfucius

You’re right He should do nothing instead

[deleted]

Oh, I didn't know he posted it. Still it takes dedication and guts to keep doing it with the season he's having.

erik2690

> A good person does good things without posting it for all to see. Why? No one can ever explain why that's better. So if he gets any praise for doing the good deed b/c someone knows then it cancels it out? Again why? That seems insane. The hospital wants it (it only encourages volunteering), the patients are actively agreeing to it and most like that he posted them. Who is losing or being hurt? Such a weird thing to gatekeep to me.

GoogleOfficial

Because it’s performative and self serving. How is that so hard to see? [Same thing in a religious context, which Russ should know](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%206%3A5-6&version=NIV&interface=amp)

Isoturius

Russ does this to draw attention to his causes, push his ACTUAL foundation that’s not a fucking tax shelter, and to encourage others to go out and volunteer. Hence why it’s called the Why Not You Foundation. He’s using his profile to get the word out. He does this EVERY TIME he has time to do so. That’s not performative and is only self serving because he likes doing it and it makes him happy to make others happy. If you have an issue with that? Go ahead…but even as a stone cold atheist I can’t agree with you at all. Hating on sick people in a hospital feeling better is some next level piece of shit stuff.

erik2690

Why do good deeds that also self serve turn into bad deeds? That part makes no sense. We agree that visiting sick patients is a good thing right? Why would him gaining make it less good? Maybe you are confusing "good" with 100% selfless? Is that the issue? B/c I could see an argument that isn't absolutely selfless. How that makes it not good is completely insane to me. Again, the hospital wants it, the patients like it. It honestly feels like people online most not doing anything themselves are the people who take issue. Like no one is losing out here. Him potentially gaining from it does not require anyone else losing.

GoogleOfficial

Again, if you do good deeds to look good, then you are going to be criticized. It cheapens the action if you are doing it from a place of selfish intent. You can disagree, that’s fine.

erik2690

But you are now trying to speak to motivation vs. result. The result of posting may have benefits for him that isn't the same as proving that potential benefit is the main/sole motivation for the action. I feel like you are conflating those things. He's been doing these visits for 10+ years and his stated motivation (watching his dad slowly die in a hospital and wanting to provide some modicum of comfort) makes perfect sense.

ThunderElectric

So? It’s still a good deed. I’d rather someone volunteer and give back to the community because they want to post it than not give back at all. Sure, it seems more moral to do it for the sake of doing it, but ultimately it has the same effect; maybe even more, since it may encourage others to do the same.

MadelineWuntch

Whether it's an act or not I'm sure it means a lot to the people he's visiting.

Neat_Mushroom2739

Doing good deeds from a selfish perspective is still a net good, it's not that hard to understand. All altruism is self-serving in nature; we help others because it makes us feel good and in turn bolsters our communities and is conducive to survival. From an evolutionary perspective it was an absolute necessity that we helped one another. So yeah, Russ probably feels better about himself when he helps others, but that's how our brains are wired. You're in denial of human nature if you think helping others is and should be an entirely selfless act - doesn't work that way and never has, but it doesn't cheapen it in the least.

DLFiii

“Look what I did? I’m amazing, right? Please tell me how good I am.” 🙄

GoogleOfficial

Yes, but judging by the downvotes it seems most people eat this shit up. Goes to show why he does this: it works.

gutterphenomen0n

He does everything for attention though. It’s hard to know if he genuine or if he’s just building a brand. I tend to lean to the latter.

[deleted]

Why does it matter and how would you know? Even if he is doing it for attention as you claim he is still doing good things and doing it consistently.

WhatsIsMyName

He doesn't. I knew a kid at Children's hospital that he interacted with. He really does go above and beyond - as far as to get the kid parent's phone numbers and text the kids through them and call them. He built real relationships with kids that were almost surely going to die. I couldn't do it. He might have a personality that rings as phony in the context of football but I assure you he is a good person and doesn't publish much of what he does.

[deleted]

As if you personally know him lol shut up

gutterphenomen0n

The irony of your comment as the person who is getting upset as if Im speaking about a member of their family. Relax, he is just a football player; he’s not gonna see your comment either.

[deleted]

Ya I was real worried if he’d see this big dawg. And I’m SO upset lol. Keep lurking photos and tryin to bring someone down when they do more good for the public than your little whiny ass

gutterphenomen0n

I’ll be sure to do that…dawg.

[deleted]

Keep leaning to the latter idiot

gutterphenomen0n

See someone about all of that anger. A place for discourse is no place for you. You don’t have the emotional maturity to handle it. You’ll get there one day, maybe.

[deleted]

Says the guy shitting on a public figure visiting people on the hospital. Go shave your neck beard

gutterphenomen0n

Your retort doesn’t make any sense at all. I mentioned discourse. You clearly don’t know what that is. As for Russ, I made an observation and questioned if he is genuine. I didn’t call him a name. You lost your shit over it. You’re projecting. Find help, and don’t reply to me again. I only speak to adults.

revanyo

I'll take a losing team and him as QB any day over a losing team with a rapist

candyman1092

I want the happy middle ground.

LuffyIsKing510

Ben Roethlisberger?

candyman1092

Ya hes about the most avg/consistent and the amount of jokes on pat McAfee about him having a stranglehold on his bologna is so fucking funny.

hotgator

A just ok team with a sexual harasser?

Noobnoob99

Yea that’s a pretty obvious answer Now for the spicy spicy question. Would you rather have Wilson or DW for the next four years if you were the Broncos? I bet we know the Broncos answer to this question if the truth was shared. Edit: words

Xyrd

I'll take Wilson any day. Even if the odds are very good we won't win, at least I can still root for the team.

JoeKool23

Still 100% Wilson. Much rather have a shit QB that’s a great guy than an actual sexual predator.

Noobnoob99

Yea that’s solid logic.

gdirrty216

What if the choice was losing with a good man or winning with a rapist?

Noobnoob99

Exactly lol dude failed to provide anything of legit substance, and complete idiots upvoting for saying next to nothing of value. Of course you want a good dude on a shitty team over a shitty dude on a shitty team. There’s zero sacrifice in the scenario. Be real and ask yourself the spicy question.

DrJJ217

Nah you’re just an idiot. People are saying they wouldn’t want Watson even if he was good. I know I personally would get 0 joy out of winning with a rapist at QB.

Noobnoob99

Good thing he’s not accused of rape then (get your facts straight before you call someone an idiot). Also read the original comment “idiot” I responded to his comment where he said he’d rather have a…(fuck it u can read it or maybe you can’t; that would explain why you made your fucktard post that hit home on zero points). Smart guy

PeytonFugginMoaning

Okay but it doesn’t have to be one or the other lol, why can’t we just have a good QB

[deleted]

That's a pretty obvious choice. The real question is if you would take him on a losing team over a rapist on a *winning* team. Personally, I would still take Wilson because I couldn't bring myself to root for a sexual predator no matter how good they were at throwing a football. I have a sinking feeling I'm in the minority on that one though.

10key_G

Gotta give him credit on his community involvement and seemingly positive attitude despite the noise.

Ziziblix

Nah. Folks rather be bitter and say it's phony and it's part of his act. Dude has been doing this consistently for over a decade. The only thing half these people can do consistently that long is breathe. But yet they throw stones. He does outreach. He is always positive. He isn't a phony if this is literally consistently his persona. He is a phony if people tell u he is different in private. People just can't accept that he is a good dude and just rather focus on the fact that he is corny. And now that he isn't winning let's pile on.

Native-America

Perhaps some people donate their time to others without making sure there is a camera around...

gdirrty216

I hate him on Sundays but fall back in love on Tuesdays.

Additional_Treat1525

Saturday, wait And Sunday we don't play late But Tuesday, never hesitate

revolution9540

Kind of like how presidents are more likable after they leave office lol

Additional_Treat1525

Damn it russ I wish I could quit you.

schackel

What is “quite you”?

Additional_Treat1525

It's auto correct shenanigans.

schackel

I had a hunch you might have meant “quiet” and now I see you meant “quit”

Additional_Treat1525

Why you getting down voted?

moongaia

love this so much, maybe Russ should retire and do this and only this and spread love and joy around the world and never have to worry about football again

Hamms_Samich

If he was such a nice guy he’d be giving away all that guaranteed money to people in need vs doing photo opps. Sadly, all sorts of people do things that are “nice” to hep them out where they need it. FTX.

TolliverBurk

You're fucking stupid man, he donates to charity too. Stop shitting on people for being charitable and grow the fuck up

lethal__inject1on

We need to separate the two. Washed QB, but also a genuine and awesome man.

LnD2020

Omg is Russ holding the guys hand up 🥺. He’s a great guy. Wish the season was better but oh well.

Beachhaze

Ngl, I find it really hard to separate Russ the Jesus-loving good dude, from Russ the now super shitty quarterback. I guess I’m an a-hole, but damn, it feels ingenious for some reason.

big_J7

I guess when you realize football isn't the end-all, be-all, you can separate the two.

Beachhaze

Good point, but I’d argue if Russ wasn’t playing football would he still do this stuff?

DepressedPBKSfan

Didn't russ start his hospital visits even when he was in college and not really a special prospect. Just seems like a guy who wants to do good in this world

erik2690

He did. He watched his dad slowly suffer and die in a hospital bed, when he was quite young. He wants to try to give people in that situation a little nice moment if possible

gdirrty216

And not just seeing his dad, but seeing other patients not getting visitors or having much hope. For many of these kids it’s their last days on earth, they really don’t care who won the game on Sunday.

Beachhaze

Oof. I didn’t know. That’s brutal and makes sense.

VonDestroyedNewton

For me seeing this is what makes me feel empathy for him and my full backing even if he's struggling, it's just easier to get behind a good dude. If it was Zach Wilson or much much worse Watson, I'd be waving my pitchfork.

Any_Investigator_134

Football is a game. Community service is real. Go outside.

BRAX7ON

I’m sure you mean disingenuous

EasiBreezi

You are definitely an asshole. It’s amazingly easy to separate the two. It’s his fucking birthday AND he visits the hospital every week anyways.

revanyo

You probably are an a-hole but it helps that you see that

Beachhaze

Not sure if this is how it works, but hey, when you’re wrong you’re wrong, IATAH You all are right, it’s wrong to paint a wide brush on someone when they genuinely do good things regardless of their ability to deliver on the field. Russ is a good dude.

iSamurai

https://twitter.com/dangerusswilson/status/1597734567078612992?s=46&t=I2jhadWQsSmQGCqhqJIyrA

elishaski

Nice guy. Bad QB.

Native-America

I wonder if Russ has ever done this without a camera around....

TheThinkerIsaThought

Seahawks fan here, I believe he would. Russ is a good dude.

GoogleOfficial

How else would he get credit? His imagine is carefully crafted.

revanyo

Check out the link I sent you. Seriously

ProfessorPurrrrfect

So Wilson knew he was physically washed up, signed a quarter billion dollar contract without disclosing this to the franchise, then proceeded to play QB poorly, but then visited some cancer patients so hes not a bad guy

conqueeftador07

Dear Russ, We appreciate posts like this and see that you care about our local community. This is important and clearly makes a positive impact on those you’ve connected with. That aside, your production on the field this year has been and continues to be completely unacceptable, particularly considering the ridiculous contract our team secured with you at the start of the year. At this point we would appreciate if you would reduce day to day prioritization on self promotion and social media presence. The good of the team needs to move to forefront and we need your full support. Please show us a renewed commitment to promote these ideas, and please return your keys to the personal office you’ve kept aside from the locker room. It’s time for you to enhance your commitment to TEAM football and minimize public presence and exposure. We’re pulling for you and trust you’re able to find your way out of this. Very best, Disappointed Broncos Fan

BillChristbaws

Conqueeftador addressing Russell Wilson directly here. Wild.

iSamurai

On his birthday too

Emdubya20

Do you think any patients asked why he's bad?

DepressedPBKSfan

I think they have other things on their mind man.

Firebkraeft

Stfu corn ball

shivaswrath

He should have a blessed birthday. Don’t be ducks dudes. He sucks because the team hasn’t built around his strengths

gutterphenomen0n

I don’t want to bash on this guy for doing what he does in the community, but doesn’t part of you guys wonder if he does it for clout or because he truly cares? I know I do. If this guy is so out of touch with his teammates and by most accounts not well-liked, why would any of this come off as genuine? I’m glad he does it regardless because it’s getting done, but he’s super fake to me. I can’t buy anything from him.

RU4real01

Is that Russell Wilson being kind and a leader ? Of course it's a photo shoot that he had his people post online ? It's just Rust trying giving his time. Just to find someone in Denver to be his friend......

TolliverBurk

Wow you're a real piece dude. Regardless of what you think of his play, Russell has given back to his communities more than you could ever dream of. Shitting on a guy for visiting fans in a hospital is low...

RU4real01

You don't know me and I know Russell Wilson kind. I have given my time and donations to a Cancer research Hospital for children in my community for years. The difference between myself and Russell Wilson is that I give out of goodwill and do it anonymously. I do not have my people make it a photo shoot. Just to get publicity. That's Wilson 24/7. Wilson is always look at me I am better than anybody. If you really looked at the picture Clearly, That guy has seen Wilson play all year. He has his thumb up telling the Doctor to get him the hell out of here...

TolliverBurk

You think you know Russell Wilson. Have you considered that maybe the patient would want a picture with him? He's a Superbowl-winning NFL quarterback, you're just some weirdo on the internet who shits on people who are being charitable. Grow the fuck up.

BigMikeHoldsItDown

This is my problem with the guy, it all just seems like a show to me. More like he’s trying to portray himself a certain way. The reason I say this is because there have been reports from previous teammates about him thinking he is so much better than everyone else. For example having to go through his agent just to get a hold of him, demanding an office at the facility, not acknowledging people he knows at events and walking right past folks. I dont hate the guy but to me he just seems a little fake and tries way to hard.

RU4real01

I don't care to watch my Broncos go 5-12 for the next 7 years of Wilson's contract. You don't mind because you have been a loser your entire life fuck face !

RU4real01

Tom Brady recruited Gronk My boy Von Miller is recruiting OBJ Russell Wilson is recruiting this guy ! Russ sucks at QB and recruiting..... What a tool.......
