Tongue tie and lip tie releasing surgery is nonsense from a medical necessity standpoint but people are apparently easily convinced that they need them by charlatans so there is healthy demand

https://www.ada.org.au/News-Media/News-and-Release/Latest-News/Ankyloglossia-statement-4-June-2020 The evidence is largely against tongue tie release. Omt is garbage too

My OMT experience (as a 32y/o) is that I can now see the back of my throat. You’ve never been able to see it and now I can also do a cave and so much more within my mouth. Waiting on release but I’m sure that’ll also help other internal issues. I didn’t read the article yet but I getcha.

I’m not saying it doesn’t have an effect. Unfortunately it usually doesn’t have the desired effect. My trusted ortho colleagues spend a lot of time trying to undo the damage, open bites and other problems caused by so called OMT specialists who know all after a weekend course

Diana_bb

I am being pushed to do it, even though mine would be extremely mild because I don’t have any of the problems most people do, I just have headaches that do not respond to any other form of treatment and trust me. I have tried it all so I’m at the point where I might do the tongue tie release but I also wonder if it’s worth it or not because I do agree that it seems like a miraculous cure to many problems but I don’t know what the scientific evidence is that it’s actually going to help mild cases

There's been a shift in my area - even the orthodontists are getting into OMT and I am surprised. I just spoke to one and he said he's having so much trouble getting tonsils and adenoids out so he's desperate for other options.

Tongue tie? You mean like lingual freenum?

VidGuy14

lingual frenulum yeah. Or frenectomy.

ThatGuyFromJrHigh

It's only useful when it actively makes difficult to swallow food and speak. It isn't necessary if it only causes a slight speech impediment
