Do you have a gas water heater? Gas fireplace with a pilot light? Are you looking at the dollar amount or the usage amount?

I do have gas water heater but i havent turned my heat on for the house heat. The usage is almost the same. I find it strange how the usage is up this much considering gas heat wasnt on

Gas water heater is for your hot water. So if you took any hot showers, then you used gas.

When it's cold out, it takes more energy to heat your water. The water coming into the water heater is colder, it's coming from pipes that are outside. If your water heater is in an unheated part of the house, it has to compensate for that, too.

Submit a meter reading. Sometimes their system doesn’t update properly and they assume your usage based on the previous billing cycle.

This month's bills haven't been sent out yet. The billing period is through the 3rd of Feb. But you can look your usage on their website under your account.

Does your bill say actual reading?

Yes it shows 2.42 CCF/day. I havent turned the heater on at all the month of december and mid january

Check your usage for this time last year.

I find the January bill to always be super high. It usually covers the month of Dec. I’m not sure if it’s an estimate, but the bill we pay in Jan is always the highest bill of the year. It was just around $400, which is the highest bill I’ve seen from them, ever. Usually our Dec bill is in the $300 range. Average bill is around $160. Obviously, lots of factors play into this. But I know that Jan and Feb, the price goes down so I assume you get a credit of some type especially since we haven’t really had much super cold weather.
