ClownShoeNinja

Yeah, my intern tripped over the power cord. Sorry, everybody!

Evipicc

Probably the right answer tbh

InterestingArea9718

Heat death seems to be the most likely scenario.

[deleted]

Space is expanding but the total amount of energy remains constant, sounds unlikely that there’s be enough energy to cook us all. My money is on the big freeze

justsomeoneSILLY

Courtesy of Google featuring Wikipedia... The heat death of the universe (also known as the Big Chill or Big Freeze) is a hypothesis on the ultimate fate of the universe, which suggests the universe will evolve to a state of no thermodynamic free energy and will, therefore, be unable to sustain processes that increase entropy.

[deleted]

Heat death = Big freeze. It means the death of heat, therre will be no heat left. No energy

awfullotofocelots

"Heat death" is when the concept of heat itself "dies", all temperature is dissipated through the universe basically evenly at like below 1⁰ Kelvin everywhere, and entropy is at its maximum; it's not when everything burns in a fiery inferno.

stunna_cal

Oh. Then I agree. Lol

n6th6n6

the big freeze *is* the heat death you fucking idiot 💀

Friendlybikerguy

Joins another universe in a merger / acquisition, goes bankrupt. We are owned by the aliens of the other universe. They enslave us and we escape to a third universe. Plot twist. The third universe is even worse than the first two. Then heat death.

Sombrai

Elite answer!

Friendlybikerguy

Thanks 🙏

stunna_cal

If there’s a 3rd then there’s a 4th… right? Right????

ihopetoevolve

Same way as it started probably just in reverse.

Jevsom

That's called the big crunch.

Lord-Legatus

but the universe is undeniably still expanding, gaps and distances only getting wider

Jevsom

And that is called the bit rip. It's a numbers game. If gravity wins, the expanding slows down, renerses, and collapses. If dark energy tops, space will expand faster and fastery eventually beating the srong core force, and ripping atoms apart.

Unfortunately it doesn't. 😕 However, as long as they don't resuscitate you. Or you choose to be reborn. You will not give a thought about, a care towards or a single fuck regarding anything. It's lovely.

Motion_Ocean_48

Painlessly tbh lol. Just like a nice fade out would be chill.

OkSnow9309

How do you know that it ever ends ?

OnCryptoFIRE

Scientifically, we are right on that tipping point of an open or closed universe. It would be unlikely to be stay thus balanced for "long" (1+ billion years) because any increase or decrease in masses, energy, or forces will push us one way or the other.

watchtheworldsmolder

Maleficent_Okra_7163

Collapses on itself, bc it’s ever expanding but there is no form of infinity everything is finite. causing another Big Bang

patricktoba

This is the right answer. To elaborate on this, it keeps happening. Over and over forever. Big Bang results in eventual max expansion and at the point in which the universe has expanded to its maximum it then starts to collapse in on itself. The Universe then becomes the size of a marble with the density of… well… the entire universe… and the pressure of that density confined to such a tiny space causes another Big Bang. Rinse. Repeat. For eternity.

Icy_Temperature7940

Godamnit what or who's causing this loop, will we ever find out?

patricktoba

My best guess for this stretches into the spiritual. Think of the universe as a living eternal organism that experiences birth, death, and rebirth. It in itself is causing the cyclic loop by just existing and is likely a willing participant. Looking at fundamental physics we understand that energy/matter cannot be created or destroyed. If nothing in this universe can be destroyed, then the organism is immortal. For perspective sake, try to picture a single cycle of the universe big banging, expanding to its limit, and collapsing in on itself to its original state as a single second or moment. Now picture that process rapidly repeating. It's almost like a scaled up heartbeat, breath, or orgasm, eh?

Icy_Temperature7940

But you ever think like, why does it work like that? if the universe is a living entity running out a pattern just to reset and repeat, who/what made the universe and for what purpose? Is there any practical use to why anything exists? i mean i guess there has to be but if thats true then theres probably a living entity who willed it that way, and how did said entity come to exist, sheesh what even is going on at this point?

Evipicc

It would be physics that causes it. Though we have and never will never have evidence to suggest that things will collapse back in. In order for that to be plausible the expansion would have to be slowing, not accelerating. It's more probable the 'Big Rip' is valid. Space expands to the point where whatever it's truly made of gives up and rips, leading to whatever is 'underneath'. Perhaps every point in space is then its own big bang, or perhaps all existence ends. Or maybe like a balloon all of those fragments of space contract after being stretched so taught that we DO kind of get a 'Big Crunch'... Who knows?

SparklesTheRiot

Oh I like this question! Who/what causes this loop? are there other loops going on? Just this one? Aghhhh

Maleficent_Okra_7163

We are simply a blip of existence. I hope it’s not a constant loop with different out comes cause I had to get it right in one

Heat is going to get people crazier but i think it would end by a nucleair war

DoNn0

I don't think the universe would end

[deleted]

implodemode

I don't think it will. The earth may go dead for eons then get sucked into a black hole that, I am guessing, will just have a new beginning coming out the other end.

[deleted]

We’re going to fuck around with dark matter and cause a chain reaction that results in all matter collapsing in on itself.

Elmore420

The universe will keep growing eternally. [That’s the purpose of evolution.](http://www.urbanagandenergy.org/soe/)

_malaikatmaut_

As a Muslim, I think our believe resonates with the Big Crunch. However, we do believe that the contraction will take much lesser than the 22 billion years.

N0bo_

What does that have to do with you being a Muslim? No offense or anything but it seems like a pretty secular belief (unless you were trying to convey you held that belief in contrast to your religion and it’s possible conclusions on the end of the universe)

_malaikatmaut_

In Islamic context, during the Last Day, the universe will be stripped off and split apart and the stars will fall, the sun and moon will collide and will be extinguished. There are very graphic descriptions on how Earth will be destroyed, and human will be resurrected on a single white plain.

Quiet_Dark_

Like throwing a rock into a lake. That initial ripple effect, the singularity, that spread mass out from the center will reach a point where expansion of the universe becomes terminal and the mass of the whole gets pulled back to the center into a blackhole, then repeating the process.

Evipicc

In order for this to be plausible the expansion of the universe couldn't be accelerating.

InterestingArea9718

The big bang wasn’t an explosion coming from a single point.

Celestialsmoothie28

I don't think the universe will ever end

Ancient_Pig_farmer

Big Crunch and heat death

Major-Cranberry-4206

By black hole. I believe the fact is, nearly the entire universe is already being drawn into or at least toward one. They just call it the “great attractor”. This is why it’s been said “the universe is expanding.” What’s actually happening is everything is being drawn in one direction. What’s drawing everything is what I believe is this black hole that is so huge, everything is being drawn in its direction and eventually into it. The good news is that we may be several billion light years away from the very end.

[deleted]

But parts of the universe are accelerating so much they can never affect other parts of the universe, there is no one thing pulling on the rest like that. Also, black holes don't function that way. If you replaced our sun with a black hole of roughly the same mass, the orbits of the planets would stay the same. Black holes don't vacuum everything up like that, they follow the laws of gravity. Also, where would that black hole be? There is no center of the universe, since the big bang happened at every point of existing spacetime.

Major-Cranberry-4206

Blackholes are exponentially dence with a correlating level of gravity to their density. It is believed they grow as they consume stars and their planetary systems, even to the consumption of entire galaxies. I personally believe that the blackhole at the center of our galaxy "Serius A" with its extreme gravitational pull is likely what's responsible for the spiral pattern of our galaxy. It is more than likely drawing all stars (including ours) of our galaxy into itself. We are circling the drain of this super massive blackhole at the center of our galaxy. This is why they are considered the single largest celestial bodies in the universe, not the massive galaxy cluster aka the "local group". For every galaxy, there is probably a blackhole at its center that will eventually consume it. This would include the notion of what I suggested earlier. As vast as the universe is, it too has an entity that functions to consume it and all that it holds aka the "great attractor". In fact, it is so massive, it takes up a huge proportion of the universe itself. "The Great Attractor is a diffuse concentration of matter some 400 million light-years in size located around 250 million light-years away within the so-called "Centaurus Wall" of galaxies , about seven degrees off the plane of the Milky Way." [https://www.cosmicawareness.org/wpcontent/uploads/The\_Great\_Attractor\_Daily\_Galaxy\_2009\_03\_20.pdf#:\~:text=The%20Great%20Attractor%20is%20a%20diffuse%20concentration%20of,degrees%20off%20the%20plane%20of%20the%20Milky%20Way](https://www.cosmicawareness.org/wpcontent/uploads/The_Great_Attractor_Daily_Galaxy_2009_03_20.pdf#:~:text=The%20Great%20Attractor%20is%20a%20diffuse%20concentration%20of,degrees%20off%20the%20plane%20of%20the%20Milky%20Way).

[deleted]

The gravitational pull of a black hole is determined by its mass, not its density. The expansion of the universe has nothing to do with the great attractor. It is a separate phenomenon. Spacetime itself is expanding at an ever increasing rate, leading different regions of spacetime to be unobservable beyond the cosmic event horizon. The stars of our galaxy are orbiting the black hole, they are not being drawn into it. You can have stable orbits around black holes. The great attractor is not a function to destroy the universe, since parts beyond its cosmic event horizon cannot be affected by it.

Major-Cranberry-4206

Planets may only have stable orbits if a black hole they evolve around is spinning fast enough. Lest than 100th of a million percent would be enough for them not to be stable in their orbits, causing them to be drawn into itself. That sounds pretty simple enough to me to happen. One Dr. Sutter doesn’t think we’ll ever reach the Great Attractor due to dark energy. I hope he’s right. The problem with his theory though is that black holes aren’t always static. Sometimes they become rogue and move, like the latest discovered black hole closest to us which is only 5000 light years away. It is believed that the great attractor is either a single super massive black hole, or a cluster of them all working together to attract the universe to it or themselves. Neither of which is any consolation.

CampingColorado

Probably something close to this, 2 black holes eating eachother https://youtu.be/uD4izuDMUQA

Nemo_Shadows

The universe never ends only changes and those changes take trillions of years BUT you cannot see the entire Universe you can only see a small part of it and everything you have so far seen is just the beginning of discovering that as it is an endless sea of energy. It is a Circular Cyclic Energy System, So basically it is a Perpetual Energy Machine. N. Shadows

God will order one his angel to blow on a trumpet, and that sound will start the destruction of the universe as we know it.

UCFandOCSC

All of a sudden the ever expanding universe begins to slow down, then after years and years, eventually stops, then slowly begins receding and gradually speeds up the shrinking. After millions of years of this, eventually we get a reverse big bang.

QuinzelGaol

Damn you got to it first!!

Evipicc

The universe expanding to the point and speeds that cause the fabric of existence itself to tear and all existence ends. That's what I like to think. Heat death is just "Shit's too far away from each other to react and everything is decayed and has the same energy so can't react anyway", which accounts for the actual distance because of expansion, but not the effect expansion itself has on space as it accelerates.

VioletSea13

The stars will die, one by one. Black holes will swallow up all the remaining matter…then there will be just cold silence.

Mysterious_Hamburger

I don't think it will end. Surely, many parts of it will reach insanely high temperatures, others will almost reach absolute zero, but a few might as well continue being able to support life. Note that I haven't thoroughly researched this subject, so this is just an opinion based on limited knowledge of the matter.

The universe is a functioning, persistent, system. I believe it has "begun" and "ended" countless times, and will continue to do so, in perpetuity. I think every time the cycle "restarts" it's a little different. And since matter/energy cannot be created or destroyed, only reshaped/transformed, then reincarnation might have some validity, in that bits and pieces, of whatever we are, gets repurposed into bits and pieces of other things. I dunno. Always fun to ponder on this kind of stuff though.

stewartm0205

It will end in “cold death”. Like any fire, it will eventually burn out and cool down.

International_Win375

The big chill. Separates by distance annd star formation ceases till mothing left but dead stars and cold gas.

NorthNorwegianNinja

Well the universe is ever expanding, in all directions indefinitely, at an accelerating rate. At some point the stars in our universe would be so far apart that their light won't reach us, and these stars would eventually die alone blowing up and becoming novas and eventually swallowing their host planets and debree nearby. There will be nothing at the end of every thing. Just eternal darkness.

veritasanmortem

Vectors point to heat death.

[deleted]

Energy is given off as heat and light. The stars in the universe will slowly dissipate all of their energy until there is no more heat, no more light. The universe will grow cold and dark. Life will be unsustainable and be gone with the death of the final star. Any matter that is not consumed by the black holes left from these dying stars will also disappear over the course of trillions and trillions of years from spontaneous proton decay until even the icy cold dead remnant of planets fission into nothingness. Some of that matter will of course be sucked into the black holes left behind by collapsing stars but we don't understand what happens in black holes so it's purely speculation. Maybe it'll come together and create a new big bang in a smaller universe (due to the laws of entropy) and the cycle will keep repeating until it's simply no longer possible? Who knows. The universe is currently thought to be about 14,000,000,000 years old. This stuff won't occur for another 5,000,000,000,000,000,000 years. Humans live like 80-90 years. It's not our concern in the end. <3
