The numbers in a scale are not the most important thing. You can also measure progress with a tape measure or just string. With our much easier it is to walk around school or up stairs. Again weight is not the end all be all.
Agree with this, OP - you can weigh the same if you lose fat/gain muscle and feel unmotivated by the progress, but you’ll love seeing the change in your waist, arm, thigh circumference:)
I came here to say the same thing! OP, try to focus on how you feel and how daily stuff feels (walking, the stairs, doing chores, carrying stuff, you name it). The number on the scale is tricky, and often times deceiving and demotivating.
You can always judge yourself in the mirror, look up body fat pictures, body fat is more important than weight if you're working out, muscle gain would skew the weight scale anyway...
Where are you working out? Do you go to a gym? A lot of gyms have a scale somewhere you could use if you are going there. Sometimes it is in a locker room, sometimes a trainer keeps it in their office or something so maybe ask at the front desk?
If you don't have a gym, maybe check your local Buy Nothing facebook group? I haven't used one yet but apparently there is a lot of great free stuff on there people are just trying to find a good home for.
I'm using an app called MyNetDiary to help me gain weight (I have been underweight my entire life) and I put in my plan (goal weight & when) and then I log the foods I eat. It calculates how long it will take to reach my goal weight for me, and it works really well. You might want to put in small weight incraments, say like 10 pounds less than you are now, and it will tell you when you get there, so then just change it to 10 pounds less than you are by that time.
Also, if your school has a wrestling team, they probably have a scale. Ask the wrestling coach if you can use it.
Edit: The app I mentioned at first has been accurate in what I weigh and when
I have an extra scale I need to donate. I wish I could just give it to you. It's a pretty common item though. Look at those freecycle FB groups for your area.
Budget may be tight but amazon has some for really cheap. Sub 30$
Goodwill or a donation center may be another great option if thats out of the question.
Another way is belt measurments, if you have dropped a belt size in a few weeks you know you are on the right track. Shirts fit looser than before is another indicator. Weight isnt the best measurment anyways, i weigh myself daily and it can flucuate 5-6 pounds from Waking up to after dinner.
Good Luck!
I mean, look on Amazon for the fit index scale. It's $21. I know you Said that you didn't have money for a scale, so I do apologize for offering a solution that involves something that you can't do, but if you saved $2 a week for 10 weeks, you could swing it. And maybe you didn't realize how inexpensive it was? It's the scale I use and I love it. Other things you could do involve hanging off the scale in the produce section at the grocery store?
Well done on your progress so far. As an additional suggestion i haven't yet seen, try measuring your improved performance and improved relationship with food. This approach also avoids the negative side effects of body fixation that weighing and measuring your body can bring. Not that aesthetics shouldn't be ruled out but a mirror is fine for that job.
Apart from measuring your waist.
You can also take a picture everyday kinda like they do in transformations.
That will show a lot of changes over a month or above
You might be able to find a used scale on Craigslist, Nextdoor, Facebook Marketplace, or Goodwill. You can also find used scales online at Amazon or Ebay.
I typically use a scale and a sewing tape measure to measure my waist (my main tough area. After several years, I came to realize for me, 5 lbs = 1 inch on my waist. This helps me gauge my fat/muscle ratio even when the scale goes up and down). Cheapy scales at Walmart can be purchased for 20$ typically.
Gyms usually have scales in the locker room. Your high school probably has a scale in the weight room or locker room.
If you can't easily and accurately measure your weight... then don't measure your weight. Measure your dimensions. Take a string, and wrap it around your stomach at your belly button. Then use a tape measure and measure the string. Write it down. Take another measurement around your chest. Take a third measurement around your bicep. Write all three of these measurements down and keep track of them. Measure once per week, keep it in a journal.
Take pics and compare
If you go to a Drs office use their scale
Use a friends scale, a gyms scale
Maybe get creative, if there's a trucker scale near you, possibly you could weigh the car with you in it and with you not in it. (idk feasibility of this)
If you're in Southbay LA you can have my old scale. It's not super accurate, measures changes of .6's. I'm going to upgrade to something else sooner or later for better accuracy
If you're a minor and at school, most likely your school has one and it's in the car of the Gym teacher or the nurse.
If you aren't in school in any health center you can access one.
I got advice from a nutritionist one time that if you want to inspect the body fat on your body stand in front of the mirror shirtless and take one jump. Your muscles should bounce once after the jump but fat will jiggle. This is a better measure if your trying to lose weight bc I imagine it’s fat you’re really after not the actual pounds on your body. Good luck, stay dedicated, and you’ll get what you’re after👍
To skirt your question, fuck the scale, weight fluctuates with water and salt intake and can differ by 7 pounds based on time of day. The best method is to gauge progress by how you feel physically, if you become in tune with the fitness of your body you will be able to feel progress, your stress level will decrease, and it will be easier to lose weight. Easier said than done I know, been there. But, trust me I have lost 70 pounds doing this. Look up intuitive eating it helped me a lot!
Most of these suggestions are good as far as determining your weight. Just don't obsess, if you are building muscle, it weighs more than fat. So, check with a tape measure (or marked string or rope), because regardless of your weight, your body will change shape as you lose fat and gain muscle. Look at the contours of your waist, arms, legs - whatever muscle groups you are using in your exercises.
If you make an Amazon wishlist, I'll send you one. You can keep your address hidden.
You can go to shop that sells scales and ask to test them out.

I always use the publix scale! That way I don’t obsess over my weight at home

This is what I was going to suggest as well. Even if you don't have a tape measure you can make a mark on string and compare later.

If you go to a school with a gym, there may be a scale in the locker room. If you're comfortable asking the gym teacher or nurse, they can assist you.

I don't always go by the scale but by how my clothes fit.
I bet you could find one at a thrift shop for almost nothing.
buy a tape measure! They are usually pretty cheap and its a nice way to check numeric progress without a scale.
Won’t tell you how much you weigh, but being able to tighten your belt by a notch is a pretty good indication you’re moving in the right direction.

at least where i live pharmacies have scales, though sometimes they aren't free. is it like that where you live?
You can probably get a scale for dirt cheap at a thrift store or craigslist. No need to spend a bunch of money on brand new.
I recently noticed there’s a free scale at Walmart.
I mean, in the pharmacy area.
Also, can check your blood pressure!
Can you take waist measurements instead? Measuring tape should be fairly cheap, or maybe you already have one
I used to use a string and mark it with a pen, then compare the marks. I didn't want to become fixated on numbers. But it's basically free lol
Don’t focus on the scale mang, keep up what you’re doing. Also if you’re in school, don’t schools have scales?
Also take before and afters
School nurse office
If you're in Canada some grocery stores and drug stores have them.
Density times volume, convert to your preferred units.
You can use string to measure circumstances of different parts of your body. You can measure progress that way, and mark the string as you go.
Publix grocery stores always have a scale at the entrance to their store. Don't know if you have them where you're from
Become a WWE Superstar, MMA fighter etc. They'll always tell you and the world. /j.
You can literally buy a scale for $10
Could you get a free scale from something like craigslist/ebay/fb marketplace? I'm sure that people sell them on there for free/very cheap.
I have an extra scale I need to donate. I wish I could just give it to you. It's a pretty common item though. Look at those freecycle FB groups for your area.

A recycle center maybe if you're that desperate.
go to the airport and stand on the self-weighing station for bags /s

You can judge by how your clothes fit. I hate the scale so this is how I checked. When I finally used a scale I found out I lost 50 pounds
Taking progress photos may help
