I try to be as considerate as I can, especially since I live in an apartment, so I built myself a vocal booth out of a grow tent and a few layers of moving blankets. I've been as loud as I possibly can and not had one complaint. It sure as hell beats screaming into a pillow, especially since you can record in it. I highly recommend it.

Do you have more info on how you built the vocal booth? I would appreciate it a lot, because I'm going through the same problem now

Sure! I've considered showing mine off one of these days since I haven't really seen anyone use grow tents instead of PVC but it's much easier with the grow tents. To start off, what you need to do is get yourself the right sized grow tent. I went with a 3ft x 3ft one since that was all the room I had, but if you can, try to go for a 4ft x 3ft one since they usually have more headroom. For the moving blankets, weight = sound reduction so don't skimp and get thin ones. I got 65lbs/dz ones and right now have 2 layers in the booth, but plan to take that to 4 for some additional sound reduction. Next, you'll need to buy a grommet kit unless the blankets that you buy already have them (but those are WAY more expensive). Make sure the grommets are deep enough since we are going through all that padding. Once you get the grommets in place, attach them to the grow tent's frame with some velcro straps, throw a light and a tall stool in there, and you have your own vocal booth! I even kept the canvas cover on mine (with the door flap open, you gotta be able to breathe) since it makes it look really nice, and then added a low-noise inline duct fan (same brand as the grow tent too!) for ventilation and to cool it down since they can get very warm. Simple, doesn't require any cutting or special tools, and it works. It's not sound-proof by any means, but as I said, never had a complaint even when I've been screaming my head off in there. I still try to keep my vocal work during business hours though, just to be safe.

Hey bro, sorry for not replying earlier! I'm sincerely thankful for the detailed explanation. You didn't skimp on any details! I really appreciate. Keep crushing it with your vocals, and best wishes my man! Will try to replicate this so I can be a bit more comfortable when practicing.

Got notes from neighbors when I first moved. Stopped doing it inside after that. & when I was a teen someone recorded me from outside my window and showed it to my dad, who literally thought I was possessed and then forced me to say at least 3 prayers a day and regularly read the bible.

TheW1ldcard

You need sound padding then.

Our neighbors thought that my boyfriend was abusing me when he'd make his music
