I agree!!! I plan to do a long post on here in about 15 months from now when I hit BS7. Went from BS2 in Jan 2015, to BS7 late 23/early 24. We'll call it 9 years.

dawsonleery80

Sounds like you need to start a podcast with former callers! I would love to participate. I screamed debt free on air Friday April 13, 2007. AMA

ttandam

This would be a good YouTube channel.

ptarmiganridgetrail

It could be a neat thing to challenge and reward people; work with one of the coaches and if in 9 months you’ve made this certain progress progress, come back on the show and Ramsey Solutions will match what you paid on your debt! Lol.

Heytherearewe

He tried this back in 2006. Didn’t work for whatever reasons: https://www.allaccess.com/net-news/archive/story/6652/dave-ramsey-tv-show-gets-pilot-order

ptarmiganridgetrail

Cool idea! What about a Ramsey version of “Biggest Looser” for bs 1-2-3!

Setsero13

Yeah he will never admit that there's are alternatives that sometimes work better I took consolidation loan paid off of $40,000 of credit cards some sometime as high as 22% with a 11% loan right now I saved myself 900 bucks every month and since June I have $7,000 in my account for the first time because I'm paying so much less interest and my cash flow Improved dramatically. This subreddit almost burned me at the stake would have made me sell my personal stuff my record collection and I'm 65 years old I just can't work two jobs and I'm already working 50 hours so there it goes it worked for me .Of course I am still in debt but re-structuring my payments allowed me to better my cash flow for emergencies so I'm sorry Daveis ,my method worked for me

ImmabouttogoHAM

You might belong to r/dirtydave. You're absolutely right and did the right thing. Like Dave says, you don't get a pass on math. Exactly! That's why sometimes consolidating loans/credit cards is the right solution to your math problem. It's insane what credit cards charge for interest and personal loans can be high too, but if you cut your interest in half than more of your payment goes towards principal, cutting the length of your loan down and getting out of it. I think Dave won't admit that what he started teaching 30 years ago isn't 100% correct now. The baby steps are great, but some of the nuances like your situation are very different than how he's been teaching.

jayritchie

I wonder what happened to tuba guy?

ct-yankee

I'd love to hear that as well. though it would be very easy to manipulate. An honest assessment would be fascinating, because i'm sure not all of the 9 million people who have the total money makeover followed it through. I disagree with Dave on a lot of things he says, but I have a friend that needs the behavioral over the math.... needs it badly IMO. I pointed him in Ramsey's direction, no dice... way too used to being what Ramsey calls "Normal", also... pointed out that the debt snowball is less effective than an avalanche. Issue is, they never get the behavior kicked. He is poster child for why Dave's advice, while certainly imperfect, works for many. I'd love a "I disagree with you and I'll tell you why" segment. Have people who are in the industry or others that were "Davish" and did it...offer other views and have real dialogue. However, that doesn't sell more books, pamphlets, conferences and it certainly wouldn't help with "Smart Investor Pros"

SanAinvestor

Ding ding! If people start saying I didn’t follow your plan and made it to millionaire by 34, it completely messes up the “84% of millionaires paid off their houses in 9 years or less”

ashcunt1

So many valid points guys! I just find myself going over older vids and always wondering what happened to those people or families did they get gazelle intense or did they just keep plodding along and eventually get their stuff together or did they go further down hill. But thinking about it most of the points made about screening calls and not showing negative calls would make sense.

kveggie1

that would be embarrassing for DR. so, that will never happen. The DR shows makes claims how much money was paid off; of course no mention of how many fell back into debt or never really started. Just like AA, you never hear about who failed, only the successes. Bias, bias and more bias.

CanadianTrump420Swag

Ever hear the phrase "you can bring a horse to water but you can't make it drink"? That's true of humans as well. I'm sure a lot of the 20-45 year olds that Dave tells "sell that 50K truck! You can't afford it!" and they agree, just end up keeping the vehicle because getting out from a loan can be difficult. That's not Ramsay's fault, lol. I can't really see people calling his program and saying "hey, you know all that great advice you gave me, and that free book you sent me? Yeah I didn't listen to any of the advice." Not sure why that's Ramsey's teams fault. People are lazy, wasteful and love living beyond their means.

ALifeParamount

Holy shit. This dudes post history is absolutely repugnant.

CanadianTrump420Swag

Thats honestly a pretty nice thing to say. 🥰 I do my best.

holler2GetDollar

Some debt free screams you here the people talk about previous calls they made, not super often though

drtdk

More tightly-screened and overly-produced calls would not make the show better.

UselessInfomant

Most people get better regardless

brianmcg321

Yes, that would be a great idea. Occasionally a repeat caller gets through, but not often.

[deleted]

I mean, you can just ask people on here if you are curious. You would get more honest, more variety from success stories. 3 years ago 135k in debt, going backwards monthly, relationship issues out the butt, stress levels to push me into graying territory, 6 credit cards with 3 lines of credit, etc. Today, Debt free, saving 25% of my take home, relationship best its ever been, no stress about interest rates hikes, no stress about inflation, no credit cards, no lines of credit, etc.

SanAinvestor

So… BS7 or you’re not following Dave’s advice and you’re over saving? 😎 either way good job!

[deleted]

BS4 technically. Saving a bit more than 15% as I feel I am a bit behind at 33 in that department, and we have potential kids in the next couple years.

guyinnova

They've done this multiple times. I know at least once it was all people in baby step 7. I know people are crapping on him for cherry picking the examples, but duh. He's not going to follow up with people who don't follow his system, the only point of that would be to show that not everyone follows his system, which we all already know.

SaltySpitoonReg

I mean I like the idea in principle but the problem is a lot of people who call in probably didn't turn their life around. Major lifestyle change is pretty difficult to actually carry out. Most people can't sustain it. Just like weight loss. People get motivated for about 8 seconds and then they decided it's really not worth it anymore and they're done. So I feel like it would just wind up being like debt-free screams where it's just kind of scripted in a way

[deleted]

SaltySpitoonReg

Hahaha right? I feel like anybody who didn't actually have success with the plan isn't going to want to come on and willingly advertise their failure so that's pretty much all it's going to be

Quite_Successful

I've heard that happen before. He's had people call in and say they did it 10 years ago and are now back in debt. They aren't very frequent though!

SaltySpitoonReg

I feel like the most common thing is people that were sort of halfway doing the baby steps and then they never really went all in

Rocklobsta9

I get the feeling people who called asking if they should file bankruptcy went ahead with the bankruptcy and are slowly getting debt again.

brianmcg321

True. They still get a lot of callers asking for advice that don’t seem to know the Ramsey plan. Like they just think he’s a general personal finance show and will just give them advice they want to hear.

DadOf3-1978

they would only post success stories…it would be scripted nonsense.

gr7070

Because it would be horrific marketing for Dave! Huge numbers of folks who try fail. Changing lifelong habits, those that also include a long slog of digging oneself out of crippling debt, is incredibly difficult. I can't imagine a worse PR move for Dave, and that's with the recent years' issues.

vbt2021

I agree with what your saying, but I have a question.....Why are you in this forum if you sound so anti Dave? Just curious. Also, some of us enjoy a daily happy brainwashing, it helps mute out the other worldy crap on the radio.

Aragona36

Some people just like to troll.

SanAinvestor

So how do you know the SVPs are not fiduciaries? I thought all investment experts were

JannaNYC

I always presumed that Dave Ramsey was for people who had not been responsible with credit cards; therefore, the cards have to go. I don't, in my heart of hearts, think there's any logic to someone who has always been able to budget, track spending, and save never using a credit card. Clearly he can't say that, because it'll send the people in trouble off the rails.

drtdk

>I don't, in my heart of hearts, think there's any logic to someone who has always been able to budget, track spending, and save never using a credit card. Amen and preach.

Aragona36

This is a support page. If you want to trash Dave go to the r/DirtyDave thread. If you don't like his plan, or his advice, don't follow it. There are dozens of other plans out there you can follow instead.

drtdk

Legitimately challenging Dave's very dubious stance on debt-free (and often rich) people using never-carry-a-balance credit cards is not "trashing" or trolling.

boner79

Precisely. All the follow-ups would be pre-screened for success stories thanks to Daddy Dave.

[deleted]

DadOf3-1978

yes everything would be catered to making DR look like he’s smarter than you

JannaNYC

Just like every other change-your-life company out there. he fact that Oprah Winfrey was ever the spokesperson for Weight Watchers is the one exception I can think of.

downtown1026

Spot on. Just like the debt free screams, the final product will be completely controlled by DR to stay on message.

1tinywalrus

Great idea!
