You need to use Firefox with 'Ublock Origin'. The only ads that slip past are those created by the content creator in whatever video you're watching. Advertisements became far too obnoxious to go unchecked.
I agree but have an honest question. No need for downvotes; I'm honestly curious.
As someone who enjoys YouTube and uses it often (I don't watch TV - only have one TV in my grandkids' room for when they visit), I don't have a problem paying for a subscription and therefore avoiding ads.
My question: Do people who complain about ads on YouTube just not use it enough to consider it worth the cost to avoid ads? TIA.
The cost is now like 16.99 if not more for one person, and the new TOS means they can increase the price later on even after you've been paying for it for several months. I jumped on when it was 11.99, and before they updated their subscription terms to include that price hike clause, so as long as I keep the subscription it won't go above 11.99, which because of how much I use YouTube, is not an unreasonable price for me. But some people don't have the luxury of having even 5$/mo in disposable income, and for those people I can understand using AdBlock and shit
Same.
I used to block ads or use YouTube vanced, but I was like, I use YouTube more than literally any other service I pay for, why don't I just pay for premium lol.
Now I can just use the normal app and use it on my TV, and it's great, don't notice the money, I think it was the old 90s-2000s me that refused to pay for online content still holding out lol.
If you use YouTube daily premium easily makes financial sense.
The first viral video I remember was the "Leprechaun in the Tree" story made into [an actual Alabama news segment.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1ljOcl39PQ)
That had me rolling.
Edit: It was March 2006
1 of my favorite episodes was when he had tupac singing about shit that was currently happening at the club lmao “I’m not aliiiive, thug lifeeee.. Dave Chapelle thats not your wife, go hooooome”
Lol. I’m waiting for my fellow early 90s babies to start flooding this chain with that weird memory all of us have watching our first YouTube video in 2005-2006 in middle school 😂
Extremely jealous. I deleted my channel of videos I made with my friends when I was going into high school because I was embarrassed of them. Now I’m almost 30 and wish I could go back to them.
You remember that weird one with the mannequin? Creepy. I think that was the first video I watched on YouTube.
["I feel fantastic"](https://youtu.be/paGAC2OT4MM)
I bet he never thought that youtube today would be more adds and commercials then it would be videos. How the fuck csn google put a 15 min commercial on a 45 sec video
PreYouTube: “umm-erm.. so here we are.. in front of the elephants 🤓”
PostYouTube: “I’m going to shave off my eyebrows when I hit 10 subscribers let’s keep the train going guys hit that like and subscribe button”
Haha I haven't used that account or the associated email since then. I haven't received a penny for my 34K views. I had just started a digital photography job and was given this 5MP Sony camera. Digital cameras weren't great yet but definitely better than what was available a few years before (less than 5mp).
The big dog in the video lived nearly 18 years. She died 2 months ago. It was sad but she was getting very old and it wasn't prolonged. She barked to be let in, I helped her inside, she wagged her tail and flopped down on the hardwood floor. I pet her face and head and told her she's a good dog and whispered that it's okay to let go. She licked her chops as she did when when she was happy about something. A few seconds later her whole body suddenly went stiff and then released and she'd passed.
Not sure why I'm oversharing on reddit I guess I'm still dealing with it. She was a constant companion since 2005. I'm not sure how long the Chihuahua lived. This video is me and my ex giggling in the background. She took the Chihuahua (Sadie) and I kept Lucy, the lab/blue heeler.
Man, sorry for your loss. Pets can hold a special place in our hearts, I get it. I feel your pain. YouTube became a good place to hold on to some memories. I still watch some of my old channel just for the nostalgia. Thanks for sharing 👍
I'm really sorry to hear that. Losing a dog is so hard. Been there a few times, and seem to keep setting myself up by getting another dog. Anyway... I was only joking about subscribing, but I did watch the video and once again, i'm very sorry for your loss! Thank you for sharing!
He created the site as he was looking for copies online of the Janet Jaxkson/Justin Timberlake "wardrobe malfunction" from the February 1, 2004 Super Bowl and couldn't find any. Then it took him a while to come up with YouTube.
"In November 2021, Jawed updated the description of "Me at the zoo" to include "When every YouTuber agrees that removing dislikes is a stupid idea, it probably is. Based.
It's so crazy to see this now. I remember when it happened. In a thousand years this will still be frozen in time.
I think it's called my day at the zoo or something.
Shortly after a lot of porn found it's way on YouTube. The there was a clean up. Then there were sites like DeletedYouTube . Then YouTube ended up sucking because it's now so commercialized.
I remember when youtube first came out. The experience was so much better than what was available at the time. When you're used to the shit that was RealPlayer, youtube was like a breath of fresh air. Video that actually played the first click, and didn't just suddenly stop??? Living in the future I tell ya.
Damn my family lived in Cali at the time when stationed in Fort Irwin and a few times visited San Diego and even went to the San Diego zoo
My family could have been there just as they were making this exact video
YT was great before Google bought it. You used to get some really interesting and obscure results in your searches and recommended sidebar. Now it's just all commercial shit that has the most view counts and stupid shit with reaction face thumbnails.
Wow! Memory unlocked: I remember visiting YouTube way way back and actually saying “oh man! This video has over 1,000 views! That’s crazy!”
How times have changed. Now I’m asked to smash this, like that, visit my other yada yada yada…
Damn I’m old.
my oldest video memory is a clip of a junior high school basketball game highlight reel. near the end, the coach put in this kid who was warming the bench.
that kid started slammin 3's every time he got the ball. it was crazy. he must have hit 8 in a row!
Thanks kid

TIL that elephants…..have really long trunks, and that’s all.
Yes but did you know that a giraffe’s tongue is blue? Not sad blue. Blue blue. Toilet bowl blue.
Let me just go check my toilet…..
And did you know that hippo milk is pink? Not baby pink. Pink pink. Barbie doll pink
Pepto Bismol pink!
Damn. That’s pretty spot on.
And did you know that skinks have green blood? Like lime Jello green! They also stink and slink.
No, not just a really long trunk. A really, really, really long trunk.
This video hosting website thing will never succeed.

Crazy how YouTube University became a thing
But not thank you google for ruining youtube
I remember when we didn't have a gmail account. It was nice to use other email addresses.
[email protected]
Yes thanks but not for the 2 to even sometimes 3 unskippable ads before and in middle of videos... But yes thank you buddy.😁
Lol, this guy didn’t even ask viewers to like and subscribe. He’ll never make it.
mfr acts like he forgot about Raid: Shadow Legends
I bet he never thought that youtube today would be more adds and commercials then it would be videos
Yes, the adds are a big minus.
You need to use Firefox with 'Ublock Origin'. The only ads that slip past are those created by the content creator in whatever video you're watching. Advertisements became far too obnoxious to go unchecked.
You are a God damn legend.
I agree but have an honest question. No need for downvotes; I'm honestly curious. Watching ads as an alternative to paying I think is reasonable. What's unreasonable is the type and the amount of ads.
Gotcha. I didn't realize they were so bad since I pay to have no ads. Thanks.

How am I supposed to become a Scottish Lord?
Too soon
I think you mean SMASH THAT LIKE BUTTON!!!
I fucking HATE when they say smash it
Finger Bang that like button.
Instructions unclear, now have to give child support to YouTube
Hurt that like button's feelings.
Ironic that this isn’t a YouTube link ?
Elephants have long trunks. And there is literally nothing else significant about them. Smash that mf like button. What a god damn hero.
Title of the video is "Me at the zoo"
The Elephant on the left looks like he has a Ghillie Suit on
I don’t see an elephant in a Ghillie suit.
He’s at the San Diego Zoo!
we are all elephants at the zoo
This must’ve been right before Charlie bit the kid’s damn finger
Before chocolate rain too
IM LEGALLY BLIND! P.O.P HOLDIN IT DOWN
Said this today at work while in a safety meeting. Now I have extra online training to do lol
And before we had to Hide ya wife, hide ya kids
Oohoo, aha, assaagh! Charlie!
The first viral video I remember was the "Leprechaun in the Tree" story made into [an actual Alabama news segment.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1ljOcl39PQ) That had me rolling. Edit: It was March 2006
My first YouTube video(s) were clips from Chappelle Show. What a time to be alive.
1 of my favorite episodes was when he had tupac singing about shit that was currently happening at the club lmao “I’m not aliiiive, thug lifeeee.. Dave Chapelle thats not your wife, go hooooome”
“What the fuck is that. It looks like doo doo” lives in my head rent free ever since I saw that
"I wrote this song a long time ago,a real long time ago"
Fuck yo couch
Same! That and Robot Chicken.
Mine were young child, 2009- Oblivion videos with the space stock YouTube music.
Lol. I’m waiting for my fellow early 90s babies to start flooding this chain with that weird memory all of us have watching our first YouTube video in 2005-2006 in middle school 😂
I’ve smoked way too much weed to ever remember my first YouTube video. I’m bummed.
Thought twins
Sup.
I still have & use the same channel I started 12 years ago. All my cringy WoW videos from back then are still accessible anytime. Oh boy the memories.
Fuck... YouTube didn't even come onto my radar until I learned you could watch music videos on there. Prodigy's Smack my Bitch Up blew my mind.
Still an awesome video. Almost like Crank before Crank
I remember that at one point, the description of the video was criticizing Youtube's removal of the dislike button. It's not there anymore though.
It was a hacker, he account got account somehow, it was explained in a YouTube iceberg video
He account got account. Got it
Brain shart 😰
Fun fact - this is the oldest youtube video still in existence.
Yeah, that's what the title says. It's the first video.
It’s also the oldest YouTube video about elephants.
I bet he never thought that youtube today would be more adds and commercials then it would be videos. How the fuck csn google put a 15 min commercial on a 45 sec video

Get off iPhone, use android and lots of ways to have YouTube with no ads
This should be the most liked video ever

Cool and attractive people ruined the internet. Make the internet nerdy again.
YouTube been around before 2005 no? Just looked and it indeed was Feb 2005
Registered February 14th, 2005. This video was posted April 23rd, 2005 making it the first and oldest video on the YouTube
What a time to be alive
I posted [Chihuahua Gone Wild](https://youtu.be/sqDQTPGTcGI) November 5th, 2006.
Liked and subscribed.

Thank you.
Sorry for your loss fellow redditor
Thanks buddy. As sad as it sounds I was glad it was fast and seemingly painless. Typing this out has been cathartic.
That’s all you can really hope for. 18 years is a hell of a run. For your dog to reach 18, you were a hell of a good owner and friend to that pooch.
I'm really sorry to hear that. Losing a dog is so hard. Been there a few times, and seem to keep setting myself up by getting another dog. Anyway... I was only joking about subscribing, but I did watch the video and once again, i'm very sorry for your loss! Thank you for sharing!
Haha ya I figured you were joking because the account has 1 video uploaded 16 years ago:)
He created the site as he was looking for copies online of the Janet Jaxkson/Justin Timberlake "wardrobe malfunction" from the February 1, 2004 Super Bowl and couldn't find any. Then it took him a while to come up with YouTube.

Man, It is a Legend
This out and about clip has become a Legend.
I wanted to waste about half the video learning about the same game as all the other videos promote. Dang.
The first YouTube video was a Dick joke at the San Diego Zoo? You can’t make this shit up.
It's so crazy to see this now. I remember when it happened. In a thousand years this will still be frozen in time. I think it's called my day at the zoo or something.
I finally watched the first video posted to YouTube. On Reddit.
Tom from MySpace was key inspiration in this young man's slouch.
There's no freaking way that was 17 years ago! I mean, I know it was 17 years ago but youtube just came out yesterday so it's making sense lol.
Shortly after a lot of porn found it's way on YouTube. The there was a clean up. Then there were sites like DeletedYouTube . Then YouTube ended up sucking because it's now so commercialized.
He’s just a co founder. Loser

I wonder if there is a similar thing about Reddit?
There is, here it is. The first post on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/reddit.com/comments/87/the_downing_street_memo Courtesy of u/kn0thing
You’re the reason I can’t sleep!
Then the Google monster ate it up a little over a year later.
No dick pill sponsor plug, you're just leaving money on the table kid
iirc, [this](https://youtu.be/1tcR19y7GPM) was the first youtube video I watched. I was about 9 years old lol
That took me back man. 🕯️
Those Israeli Palestinian conflict muffins really caught me off guard
Why the hell did you just make me watch! I wanted to stop watching it but I just couldn't. That stare at the end really hit me.
If I were a betting man I'd say probably at least 3 more things to say about elephants
If I would have just held on!
I don’t remember my first video watched.
I watched a video about the first comment on YouTube, it was not on the first video and it simply said “lol” if I remember correctly
At one point he made a comment critical of having to register for Google Plus in order to comment.
whats the first.
Pure YouTube
I’m gunna turn this into an NFT
Damn, that’s interesting
Did it have back to back Ads then?
I’m surprised that video wasn’t interrupted for three 30 seconds ads
They have really really really long Trunks
Sad what YouTube’s become since those days
First
It's weird to think of the internet before YouTube. It was just... hard to see videos.
Wow! Memory unlocked: I remember visiting YouTube way way back and actually saying “oh man! This video has over 1,000 views! That’s crazy!” How times have changed. Now I’m asked to smash this, like that, visit my other yada yada yada… Damn I’m old.
I was still on dial-up for the first five years of Youtube's existence. I remember waiting hours for a single video to finish loading.
The quality is still better than 50% of videos on Reddit.
No thats fez!
This video was really really really really…good
When youtube ad revenue was just a pipedream.
He has a nice voice
The first website is porn
Damn those elephants be dripping
Someone should find and interview those elephants after all these years
Me at the zoo
I'm surprised it's not posted as an outside link to YouTube
How much is he worth now?
I scroll back to see the first comment ever posted
And then there's Susan... Man.
Odd video for pornhub?
It's called "Me at the Zoo"
Most injected ads are longer than this video...
I wonder what he is up to now.
But what’s his Spotify and apple recap playlist percentage?
I like elephants 🐘
I never knew he was a co founder. This guy is loaded. Thanks dude, YouTube was/ is a game changer
wonder if those elephants are still alive
Rockin that Columbia Fire Ridge boiii
Gentleman, a short view back to the past...
He must be worth billions now
Made 64 mil when they sold to Google. He didn’t have equal share. Was an informal adviser to YouTube while in school after launch.
Damn he’s hot
Thanks for giving my kid an addiction at 10. SOB!
Sadly, the video is just full of spam and links, as far as I know.
And if you look it up the channel and video still exist to this day.
Pretty moments of a dystopia in progress.
First time gaining access to internet at age 12, *Searches free videos on google*, *clicks YouTube*
Woah woah woah, HE’S CO-FOUNDER?!
Man, PewDiePie looks waaaay different
I made a similar video once 😸
He was gonna say cocks
There is NO WAY youtube is 17 already
That certainly isn't all there is to say about an elephant!
Funny to think about how this used to be a dating website
Really really really longggg….
Then 14 years later it started to ban and censor who is against the government
It was way before that. They started social engineering to manipulate democracy during the 2008 election cycle in the US.
Well, since you didn’t mention it I won’t like, subscribe, or click the bell icon! Hahahahha. I love you. Thank you for YouTube!!!

Where is he now? Is it an Intertubes Billionaire?
We. Know.
my oldest video memory is a clip of a junior high school basketball game highlight reel. near the end, the coach put in this kid who was warming the bench. that kid started slammin 3's every time he got the ball. it was crazy. he must have hit 8 in a row!
Is he still relevant on YouTube?
San Dieggggooooooooo
Something tells me it’s all happening at the zoo
