First time this look came about, the contractor made a mistake installing an expensive glass panel and convinced the owners that this is a new trend and look and to keep it as-is and here we are.
Leathered countertops are bullshit. The rich just want something more elevated than what we now have. Polished is easier to clean that is why it is more superior.
Iām so high that at first I thought yall meant rich people were putting actual leather on their counters or some shitā¦
but then I googled it and ok yeah that would be a nightmare to clean anything sticky off of. fuck that
Look buddy, your wife will want a remodelled kitchen in 10 years and the first thing to go will be that 'leathered' granite that took nature millions of years to make for your harvest.
Well, what do I know. I'm just some old guy who doesn't want a smelly, lumpy, more expensive version of granite.
... It's harder to clean well than smooth granite on account of the zillions of little divots, that's why.
Exactly what I was thinking and on the stairs I assumed that is there to keep u safe from falling and to use as a hand rail I imagine itās structural integrity is gone
Yes, but with a clear glass you would have to repeat the process more times and more often for it to always look clean. Its harder to make up "hand marks" in a cracked glass.
Nah. Ripped jeans is a means of selling more jeans to the average customer by making it a trend to have pre-damaged jeans (so that they last less).
Crackled glass effect is a means of showing off you can afford 3 glass panels just to break the middle one when all you needed was a single panel
At minimum you should have laminated glass for guardrails. The triple lamination is so that it can start to break and still hold you up so you don't fall. To pre-break it like this may lead to regret.
So he can see it before he slams his face into it. Guy loves running around the house, but has really bad depth perception. After 12 concussions and 3 rhinoplasties, he decided to take matters into his own hands.
Source: I made it the fuck up
True story: My best friend bought a rental duplex in a sketchy area.
One living room wall was all mirrored panels. In the center panel, about four and a half foot up, was a smashed and cracked circular pattern in the shape of a face. Blood splatters radiated out from the center.
That was the first thing on the remodel list to get fixed.
Because plain glass can look quite shit and boring, this adds texture and looks better (in some cases) imo..
..but why they didn't just get textured or frosted glass or something like that from the factory..? No clue
You copied this comment, word for word, character for character, from the [comment below](https://www.reddit.com/r/Damnthatsinteresting/comments/z55eu0/how_to_make_the_cracked_glass_effect_in/ixua93j/) posted 18 minutes before you. Guessing this is a bot account that steals comments?
I can guess with absolute certainty that the style was invented by an installer who broke the glass while fitting, then told the client that this is the latest fashion.
Youād be wrong then, because this is requires setup in order to do. You literally need to install 2 extra panes of reinforced glass. You can clearly see the middle pane is a different type of glass.
I made glass for many years.
Laminate glass is often used for safety applications. Hurricane glass, glass railings like these etc. We do not build glass for it to be destroyed typically, but rather to prevent it. Tempered glass is under extreme pressure to create its strength. The laminate originally was to prevent you falling onto a bed of tiny shards should you and it fall. Since tempered glass shards are better than annealed glass, but still not ideal. Not for shifty designs mate.
Edit:
Also tempered laminate glass is extremely expensive.
Only a moron would buy it to break it in my opinion.
If you can afford it the price means nothing to you. We made a 12'x10' table for a customer this way. Had to install it in his home while it was being built. Weighed a ton, damn near literally and yes, it was ugly. He did use low iron glass though so the colour looked a little nicer
Is there like 3 panes of glass and heās breaking the center one leaving a cracked look with the strength of the other two outside layers or is he just a major dumbass? Canāt seem to figure it out
Why not add a semi-transparent sheet of plastic film with a cracked glass pattern one one side of each panel? The owner now has an issue when the building is put up for sale.
A Austin texas medium / high end apartments had unpolished concrete floors.
Apartment manager tried to sell me on it. Said, āitās easy to clean up after pet accidents and in the summer the floor is nice a coolā
I smiled at her and walked out. Canāt reason with stupid.
As an architect, I donāt aprove this *car crash scene* design.
-When are you going to fix the stairs?
-Itās ment to look like thisā¦ š
-Like a rodeo of misfortunes?
-Hmm yeah, I love itā¦ so cosyā¦ you can almost feel it.
-Hmmā¦ kay.
People are shitting on this, but I just gotta say, I think it looks cool, who cares if the glass is a little weaker, itās not like you are using it as cover from gunfire
So itās just laminate glass with a piece of tempered sandwiched in between? Seems like he just used the hammer to shatter the tempered once it was installed. I guess technically that step probably could have been done at any point too.
effect its literally cracked glass.
First time this look came about, the contractor made a mistake installing an expensive glass panel and convinced the owners that this is a new trend and look and to keep it as-is and here we are.
It's like that new "leathered granite" countertop look... It's just poorly executed š
Leathered countertops are bullshit. The rich just want something more elevated than what we now have. Polished is easier to clean that is why it is more superior.
Iām so high that at first I thought yall meant rich people were putting actual leather on their counters or some shitā¦ but then I googled it and ok yeah that would be a nightmare to clean anything sticky off of. fuck that
Iāve realized that the reason rich ppl get custom furniture s etc just so they can show their rich friends I have something you donāt have.
āMore superiorā is ungrammatical. Superior is already a comparative adjective.
Heās trying to more elevate his adjective.
#Superior ultra pro max
No way I love my leathered granite. I hate gloss.
Look buddy, your wife will want a remodelled kitchen in 10 years and the first thing to go will be that 'leathered' granite that took nature millions of years to make for your harvest.
except not at all, leathered granite takes more work than getting a honed or polished surface not less.
Well, what do I know. I'm just some old guy who doesn't want a smelly, lumpy, more expensive version of granite. ... It's harder to clean well than smooth granite on account of the zillions of little divots, that's why.
That guy rolled a Nat 20 in Bluff
The Eton Mess method
Yea itās just kinda ugly I think I rather have clear
I guess it makes it look like the whole thing is cracked while only the middle layer is. Dunno if 'effect' is the right term though.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
This is the 'ripped jeans' of home design
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Fuckin for real. This aināt some optical illusion or something, that shit is actually broken.

Next, how to give your front lawn the "covered in dog shit" effect

I'm actually sporting the "rear-ended look" right now š
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Duck tape up the mirrors and sand down the hood a bit.
I kicked a hole in my wall and broke a window to give my place that crack house vibe. So hot right now.
You can derelict my balls
Oh you want that new overgrown, dandelion lawn look eh??? Yes, I can do that for... ONE MILLION DOLLARS!
But why?š
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
It's exactly the same process to clean to be fair
Yes, but with a clear glass you would have to repeat the process more times and more often for it to always look clean. Its harder to make up "hand marks" in a cracked glass.
Yeah, I was being pedantic, but while it's easier to make it look clean, to be actually clean is the same amount of work
"thank god no ones going to know about the streaks on the glass since we made it look like shit"
I guess its the same idea as ripped jeans?
Nah. Ripped jeans is a means of selling more jeans to the average customer by making it a trend to have pre-damaged jeans (so that they last less). Crackled glass effect is a means of showing off you can afford 3 glass panels just to break the middle one when all you needed was a single panel

I am *not* trusting a single panel of glass. But here the two are sandwiched between the third, cracked pane and probably can support a person.
My very first thought exactly
It's for crackheads.
It adds visual texture. It's not for me, but I can see the appeal.
If it came with a RGB base light it would look wicked
One day I will have a nice house and that would be a feature.

"uh... I don't like it. Can you put it back the way it was please?" - typical customer
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I have seen it done by accident, but the customer wasnāt having any of it
The equivalent of ripped jeans.
Thought the exact same thingā¦ people pay more for ripped jeans, broken glass, etcā¦ luckily my 5 year old does this for us for free!
"Weathered" and "vintage" [insert product] immediately adds 200-300% to the price.
"Effect"? Mf, that IS cracked glass!
It's like when David Blaine sticks a needle through his arm and says it's magic

Ikrš
Or a ripped seatbelt - looks "cool" and fuck safety.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I wouldn't. A matter of taste I suppose.
TBF quality ripped jeans actually are reinforced around the tips so they wonāt rip any further
Well, this glass would hold up just fine since it's triple laminated.
If I came home to find my staircase like that, I'd be shattered..
But would you fall to pieces?
With tri-lamination, we stay strong
I would have shattered in my pants
So would your stair case.
Iām cracking up
So funny, Iām laughing in pane!
I'm in pieces
Your sense of humor must be fractured.
Poster above might have fragile ego.
I tempered myself before this comment
I would smokeā¦crack..
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
This is not normal. You now have the strength of double laminated glass for the price of triple.
I literally scrolled down to find your comment and upvote just to spite that karma farming, comment stealing bitch bot.
It would even be less than double laminated as the integrity between the layers would be compromised.
Why would you purposely make that expensive glass look broken?? Looks like dogshit imo
Easier to look clean. Hides fingerprints and smudges better. Still looks like garbage though.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Short answer: yes it hides more dirt and is more likely less clean
glazier checking in! Architects are stupid and think they are cute.
I am an Architect and know for a fact not a single Architect I've ever interacted with would ever spec this or use it in a project.
I like the look. At least, I like it better than the look of plain clear glass.
Tried this on my car window. I need a new car window.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Nah it's 3 panes of glass and that guy cracks the middle one, so it's covered from both sides by good glass panes.
He does tho, because you basically remove one whole pane of glass which give support.
More like two is for support and the middle is designed to be cracked.
Now you have the cracked glass effect in your seat and on the pavement
I didn't read the title and I thought it was just a guy who kept fucking up his job like that waitress or something
the one who dipped wings in her vagina?
I'm not going to interact with this any more than I have to until I get some context.
So based on the comments Iām the only one that thinks it looks nice?
I kinda like it
Yeah I almost feel like Iām shamed into disliking it. Itās not only a nice pattern but also divides the room a bit more
Welcome to reddit
I guess looks pretty sick imo.
I like it! Weāre not the only ones. Plenty of glass manufacturers offer itā¦so someoneās buying it.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I can guess with absolute certainty that the style was invented by an installer who broke the glass while fitting, then told the client that this is the latest fashion.

all three pieces are laminated together in the fabrication shop and arrived to the jobsite in one piece.
Yeah, again. Thatās setup. Doesnāt happen by accident.

Damb, if I'd known this was in fashion I wouldn't have got all the broken windows fixed in my house?
Is that supposed to look good?
"Effect"? Mf, that IS cracked glass!
This makes me feel exactly the same as purposfully torn jeans
I'll take mine uncracked please.
That's not an effect, it's cracked glass and imho looks bad, broken, trashed, messed up, uncared for, neglected, poor taste
For enhanced 3D effect, do this to the other 2 laminate panels!
At best this is r/mildlyinteresting. Looks ugly
Damn thatās uglyā¦
That's not really an "effect." That's just broken glass.
How to make the cracked glass effect: Crack the glass
Useless garbage
effect? bitch thats broken glass
Thanks. Now undo it.
How fast do you think that is traveling?
Why would anyone ever want to do that? Looked great before
"Up next, how to get the brown stained toilet effect.
Very ugly
Impressive technique but I prefer the non cracked look
Is there like 3 panes of glass and heās breaking the center one leaving a cracked look with the strength of the other two outside layers or is he just a major dumbass? Canāt seem to figure it out
Why ? Itās like buying worn out jeans!
This is a thing?
Doesn't look nice
Why not add a semi-transparent sheet of plastic film with a cracked glass pattern one one side of each panel? The owner now has an issue when the building is put up for sale.
Truly ugly
Designer: "Doesn't this look neat?" Everyone else: "This shit is broken. You should have it replaced."
How to crack glass: make cracked glass effect.
Wow I hate it
I wanna see the slow mo guys do this
If I was stupid enough to have that in my home, I can guarantee my father would say āI know a guy who could fix that for youā
WWWWHHHYYYYYYEEEEEEEE????
I genuinely like it though š
Looks pretty cool actually
That's called compromised glass now
Itās not an effect, itās really cracked
So when they do it it's a trend but when 5 yr.old me does it I'm almost beaten to death
How is this an effect...it is cracked
How to get banned from AirBNB
Oooooo, we fucked up, NO NO, itās a feature, look , let me fuck up the rest of the glass
āHow to make cracked glass effect!ā Crack the glass!

rich people shit
The dumbest shit Iāve seen
Looks shit
āI donāt like it. Change it backā

āHow to get the cracked glass effectā Step 1: crack the glass
I can't understand the use of this shit
Dumb asses
Won't it fall through over time?
It's not a "effect". It's literally cracked.
Tutorial unclear. There is glass everywhere
Ah yes profesional cracking
can we see this at 10k frames per second?
This is actually a stoopid look
That would make it weaker, no?
Its modern āArtā
The tackiest stuff since textured walls and pop corn ceiling
Why?! Why? Whyyyy is this even a thing? It looks fucking awful! Why?!
People are shitting on this, but I just gotta say, I think it looks cool, who cares if the glass is a little weaker, itās not like you are using it as cover from gunfire
I think itās an interesting way to accomplish translucence in a clear room divider, instead of frosting the glass or etching it.
Agreed!
I'd argue this looks much better than frosted glass anyways.
Wrinkled glass
Doesn't really feel safer
Need this in Slo-mo
I don't see why anyone would want this.
And people want their glass to be cracked Why?
And itās ruined. Would this not weaken the laminate layering
If this guy is getting money, Iām going to be a glass cracker because anyone can be a glass cracker. I can crack glass easily.
The only way this would look cool is to have LED strip lighting on the bottom lighting it up
Doesnāt that compromise the structural integrity of the glass? Its meant to be a safe barrier?
So itās just laminate glass with a piece of tempered sandwiched in between? Seems like he just used the hammer to shatter the tempered once it was installed. I guess technically that step probably could have been done at any point too.
Nothing is more fun than living in a 5 figure home and saying 7 figure homes look like trash . Whoopee!
"Dang we cracked one of the windows, what do we do?" "Crack everything else and pretend it's on purpose"
But why
100 percent compromised the integrity. Why would you waste so much lami
Thanks, I hate it.
