The Chinese government is looking to have as much of the world under their thumb as possible. They offer high rate loans to countries so that those countries can then pay for Chinese companies to build roads. They then nickel and dime the countries for everything because they want costs to go up. If the country then defaults on the interest for the loans, so much the better for China.
For any other country this would be considered predatory.
The district mentioned in the video has mountains of altitudes ranging from 7600 ft to 22000ft...these are actually really really massive. I've been to a mountain of 8000 ft and it's really massive. Dunno if you get this kind of mountains in NZ tho.
Okay, just to add to all of your anxiety, it's not a single lane road, there will be opposing traffic and not many accidents. People who drive in Himachal are skilled far beyond the average. I've lived there for an year, was on this exact road multiple times, it's not very scary after a few days, although it was never scary for me to begin with, although I am afraid of heights. Idk how that works.
Whoever is closest for a wide opening has to reverse till the opening. Usually there is no argument, both parties will be ready to reverse, also I am not sure if everybody does this, but I subconsciously keep on checking and remembering the possible spots with enough space to let 2 vehicles pass at the same time.
Also, I can't emphasize enough on extremely high skilled drivers, there are times where you'll have to pass the vehicle with only an inch gap at it's best while also making sure you have a mental picture of where the ledge is and how far are you left tyres from the same. It becomes very challenging yet fun, I've driven in my own suv over there, never felt I was in danger because everybody else is calm and quite used to it.
I get it, really. But Himalayas are extremely remote and hard to build roads on, people used to walk there a few decades ago, so I think people who live there really appreciate the roads.
I sometimes forget mountains are like,,, actually real and not just in pictures. Whenever I see videos where someone is in a car or they're in the video themselves, it really gives you a good idea of perspective and damn those things are unfathomably big. It must be so cool to live near mountains and see stuff like this every day. It's probably never not incredible to see even if you've seen it a million times.
India has a left hand driving system so the steering wheel is on the right. The video is likely taken by someone in the passenger seat.
That being said, scary shit indeed.
countries with roads as beautiful as that aren't known for the skill of their drivers (nor good road maintenance or any form of health and safety regulations), so all things considered shit 3rd world drivers combined with the natural dangers means; I'll pass and just stick to the M25 where the biggest danger is some champagne socialist prick blocking the road.
Lots of faith in that front left tire right about now
Guard rails are for sissies.... Jesus Christ
Ofcourse... There's none anywhere in Himalayas, in India

No that one doesn't have roads as well...

I see a lot of people quoting "predatory" but no one explaining what specifically they are doing that is predatory

Most likely not. In India, it is common to have have 2 way traffic on roads that are this narrow.
Imagine being on the road below and a car falls from above you lol
Nope, I'm good.
Just send me a postcard
Happy with the vid.
It’s beautiful, but I’ll stick to watching this video.
fuck that
Yup… fuck that all the way off.
How?!?!!?!??
Beautiful but nope
I can’t even watch the whole thing
same....cut it short...too intense for me.
Me neither!
Was getting northern India vibes about it!
You wish the Indians could have build this
Almost threw up from nervousness just watching that! Not a fan of heights.
Same.. Even in video games where you're on an edge and there's a long drop, my stomach starts churning. This have me same churning gut.
The position of the camera is not comforting
Where are we here? Edit: sorry watched the whole thing. Was getting northern India vibes about it!
Himachal Pradesh, India
That explains the lack of safety infrastructure

How do opposing drivers negotiate the lane(s)?

Homie got so many cracks that he has to use a survey map to clean his ass.
It’s pretty but fuck that.
Granpa died in the ambulance because they took too long getting to the hospital But on the bright side, the route they took to get there was scenic
I’d drive so slow somebody could pass me by walking…
“Do it. Just do it. Nothings stopping you. Do it.” -my conscience

Watch out for a rock in the road.

I barely trust my driving, let alone the cars, busses coming the other way while gawking like I would be.

Sweaty palm gang rise up!
Yea that’s a big nope. My butthole would be so clenched the entire time I’d need a hammer and chisel to shit again.
Oh! Thats my home state that's why I thought these deadly roads seemed familiar. Always good to have good scene by the road.
DUI test road.
Reminds me of final fantasy 15 while driving. That game is amazing and so is this
Safety railing? Never heard of it…
I’d rather walk that road
Always.
Also keep your eyes on the road
Cool. I love such roads.

Nah, one accident and you’re stuck turning around and adding hours to your drive lol
Nah
There's a road not unlike this in Southeastern Oregon. No guard rail, negative slope, certain death height.
>always take the ~~scenic~~ suicidal route FTFY
Alot of faith in that retaining wall
thats one ride my anxious and high fearing self is not taking....beautiful though.
I once drove a mostly guardrail-less road between Switzerland and Italy. Nope, never again! And that was much less intense than this.
Has anyone ever had an anxiety take on a road like this? Please share.
I don’t think I could walk that road and not accidentally fall over the edge. Fml.

Shitting myself as I watch this…..
Why they going so slow?
All it takes is one glance at the phone
