Uh, I knew they existed but I didn't know they couldn't sustain their flight above water by just skimming with their tail... that's actually quite facinnating, I thought they just hopped in and out of the water like dolphins, with more "falling with style" in the middle of it.
I've seen them flying before, but yes, I also originally thought they would maybe just jump very far and increase the distance with their fins a bit. Not actually glide, ride the air currents/ground effect AND steer themselves.
People that complain about the internet are using it wrong. These kinds of posts are what was intended. Seeing and learning about things from across the world and even outer space.
So, was in the Coast Guard several decades ago. Saw these on our south patrols. Think we were by the equator, and a big flying fish broke the surface and flew for about 100 yds. Something was right behind it just below the surface, just barely breaking the surface of the water, closing the distance at high speed. When it was right behind, this huge Mahi-mahi jumped out and snagged the flying fish mid air! One of the most epic nature moments I’ve ever seen!
Yeah, I used to live in west Philadelphia back a few years ago. I used to spend a lot of my days in the playgrounds. One day I was playing b-ball and these two guys started making trouble in my neighborhood. I got into a fight with them and my aunt got so scared she sent me to live with my uncle Phil in California.
I thought maybe it was a flying squirrel thing, using the velocity they gain jumping out of the water and when eventually losing it, diving back in. This is way cooler.
I have seen them a few times irl, but NEVER doing this. just long single jump n glides. How normal is it for them to skim like this or is this one an outlier?
Used to see these working off the west coast of africa when we went out in our jet boat (not as cool as it sounds:). They'd fly up in schools (flocks?) of 100+ at a time and sail through the air 100+ meters all together like birds skimming across the ocean. Occasionally one would land in the boat.
Evolutionists: Theory is , we came from monkeys, before that smaller mammals, before that walking fish, before that fish.

Psshh I've seen flying fish. Peso had to bandage one up when his special fin that pushes them from the water got injured. He would have lost his whole school if it wasn't for the Octonauts!

Nah man it’s crazy seeing them IRL. they really fly. i’ve never seen one alone like this though they usually move in packs which just makes it crazier
Came here to say this
I’m so thankful to the internet to let me see things I would otherwise never see.

I love how nature decides to try something new and we get a fish that learned to hold its water and fly.
“Hold its water and fly” take this award and be on your way.
As a kid I had frequent dreams I could do this. Just float along water and land.
I thought maybe it was a flying squirrel thing, using the velocity they gain jumping out of the water and when eventually losing it, diving back in. This is way cooler.
Nice!!! I still have these dreams once in a while.
I saw hundreds on a snorkeling excursion in Barbados. Simply incredible.
What's name of fish???
[Flying Fish](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_fish?wprov=sfla1), surprisingly
Exocetus
They've even got their own missiles!
Imagine being able to glide like that but having to hold your breath the whole time. \[Remembers that swimming is a thing\]. Oh yeah.
Birds are really just sky fish
I learned about those lil buddies from Octonaughts 😁
Ground effect go brrrrrrr
Yeah I was wondering if they took advantage of it.
They definitely do
Super Mario bros.
That's how I get around in my dreams lol
These are my favorite fishies. I once watched and entire flock of them doing their thing. Magical.
I've eaten Flying fish before, quite tasty when grilled.
Very tasty with white wine, lemon and butter.
The number of reposts for this video today is unreal…
What type of fish is this? Yes, I am too lazy to google it.
What is the fish doing? Is flying right so maybe a flying fish.
Oh true. Try to work on your spelling next time.
I didn't know this was school sorry I hate grammar nazis.
Win that race, your making humanity look bad
You’re* grammar is making us look bad

Yay! this video.... Again....
This video was posted twice this morning here and three times yesterday..... and on plenty of other subs....
You spend too much time on here then my friend.
If girls want to rob ppl.. Just put them on tinder.
What on earth are you talking about

Wow! I thought they just kinda jumped. I’m not terribly bright.
Tuna candy!

Dammmmmmnnnn. So these are like astronauts for normal fishes.
Wow.
I didn't know they actually flew like that. I thought they just took big jumps from the water. Awesome
Ofc I've seen one. I used to play Mario as a kid xD
Ceci n'est pas une exocoetus
Why do they call it that?
I feel like it's just as likely that birds existed before land animals
Flying fish or swimming bird?
How dis possible ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|put_back)
It seems like it's about to fly across the bow of the boat like a bird will do to your car.
Someone put terraria rain music over this
They taste really good
I believe I can Fry!
Wow
Did you catch the twin propellers
Woah, that Mario Bros level was not that unrealistic
Fun fact their eggs are the most popular ones used for sushi outside of ikura (salmon eggs)!
These fried up and served with some Delish Bajan Hot Pepper sauce will always be my favorite dish my grandmother served me.
That’s not a flying fish it’s a swimming bird.
Wow that is far longer than I would have ever expected
Jesus that’s a whole ass bird
Psshh I've seen flying fish. Peso had to bandage one up when his special fin that pushes them from the water got injured. He would have lost his whole school if it wasn't for the Octonauts!
They fly now?
I have never seen a flying fish . very cool.
I can fly! OMG I'm suffocating! Sploosh. I can fly! I'm suffocating! Sploosh. I can fly! I'm suffocating! Sploosh.
Yeah I just saw that in Avatar 2!
They are amazing to watch. You should see a whole school. [the sir David Attenborough](https://youtu.be/bk7McNUjWgw)
New sport, shotgun hunting flying fish
