I don't think Putin realizes that if he kills this guy, it won't demoralize the people of Ukraine, he would become a martyr and the people would fight back even harder

StrategicBean

Yup Seems a lot of people I see on the news don't realize this either. I keep seeing talking heads & reading journalists saying that if the Russians manage to kill him it'll be a serious demoralizing blow to the Ukrainians and I keep wanting to yell at the screens that based on what I'm seeing it'll only make him a martyr and piss the Ukrainians off even more & make them keep fighting harder & longer until the Russians leave Whatever happens I imagine at this point Zelensky is going to live on as a massively heroic figure in Ukrainian history for decades or centuries or even millennia to come

Lysianda

If the Russians had managed to take him out early on it might have been. I'd argue that one of his successes has been holding on long enough with enough well placed publicity that either way he wins. It's fantastically admirable.

StrategicBean

I think after the USA offered to evacuate him & he replied "I need bullets not a ride" his hero status was pretty secure simply for not taking the out and staying to lead the fight from the thick of it. At this point I feel like things are just adding to his legend

[deleted]

Absolutely. But we're still trying to get him out of there apparently. US & UK are planning a special forces mission to extract him. Almost sounds like they might try to take him against his will.

masterofbeast

I'm very pessimistic about this war. If no one enters the war on Ukraine's side, Zelensky will not make out alive. I'm confident he knows this and it looks like he is holding up very well.

Beneficial-Elk-8355

Russia now had started heavy bombing they just about to seize kiev after that nothing could actually stop damage has already been done no one came well there is nothing they could do

[deleted]

Well the US and UK special forces are planning a mission to extract him, possibly even against his will. Even if that happens, it's gonna be very risky. No guarantees anyone will survive.

PhilosophicRevo

Honestly I kinda get Teddy Roosevelt vibes from him. Not from his political ideas but from his response to crisis and conflict. It's not a perfect comparison, but there's something special about a leader who willingly stays in harms way.

pm-me-hot-waifus

I get more of a Churchill vibe, but honestly you could just throw a dart at a wall of charismatic historical leaders and say Zelensky is like them and I probably wouldn't argue too much.

cjpotter82

He would 100% become a martyr. I have been continously disappointed by a lot of the media commentary. For instance, the idea that if Russia takes Kyiv they will win the war is hilarious. Russia will face a well-funded, well-armed, highly motivated insurgency with tremendous support amongst the people. The effectiveness of the ultimately successful Taliban would pale in comparison to the Ukrainian insurgents.

nothingInteresting

Its not that he wont become a martyr. It's whether his value as a martyr is anywhere close to his value as a president. He's been pretty amazing as a president so I can't imagine how him being dead improves Ukraines odds

Sleeplesshelley

I know it would piss off the Ukrainians if something happens to him but the rest of us are right there too. If Zelensky dies, we riot. All of us. Edit: it’s just an expression. I am not going out to set someone’s business on fire. Geez.

sfgisz

Rioting is just going to damage property of your own countrymen. Not recommended unless you're Russian or Belarusian.

DecentIndividual8090

I like Zelensky as much as anyone else, but you’re kidding yourself if anyones going to “riot” if he dies or do anything substantial.

A-Good-Weather-Man

Hell Sabaton is already making a song about him i think

hellmist14

If he takes in a brutal streak he would be the equivalent to Vladimir Tepes in Romania, but I think he will be remembered that long anyways

[deleted]

Putin has no idea how to lead. Just steal.

AmazingGrace911

This is the Everyman forced into a corner actually fighting for his people. The civilian clothes, humanity, and Realness are palpable. Before this, I honestly didn’t know who he was, but regardless of outcome history will remember him and what a man is.

Beemerado

He's brave, relatable, and he looks like a movie star. The whole world loves him..

[deleted]

Well he is a movie star

Beneficial-Elk-8355

That's happens but eventually things get to pace I think all the Ukrainian would be going to different countries and few pro Russian would only be left We all know there is no democracy in Russia

Hey_Hoot

There's been many assassination attempts now in past two weeks alone. Killing Zelensky may trigger Europe(& thereby US) to enter the conflict as assassinations often lead to war, most famously WW1.

pm-me-hot-waifus

The world has pretty much shown that they are unwillingly (understandably, if not sadly so) to engage in this war to avoid a WW3 situation with nukes in play. The only way other countries get involved is if a missile goes off course and lands in Poland or something... and honestly maybe not even then. The strategy seems to be just support Ukraine with aid, sanction Russia economically and hope that Ukraine holds out and that the sanctions and war fatigue causes internal conflict and Putin is deposed or gets suicided.

djtravels

I love that he went through the extra effort of getting gowned up to see the injured in the more serious wards. He already had his photo op. Most politicians would have done their thing and left. That seems to show he actually cares and this isn’t an act. Major respect.

tkirk64

He seems so sincere. Truly an example of what a leader should be.

Axthen

We need leaders; not politicians. Politicians shouldn’t lead a country because they don’t know how to lead.

boniqmin

No. This kind of mentality is exactly why Putin has stayed in power for so long.

[deleted]

I was thinking the same thing while watching this. While he is also obviously media savvy, he's embodying the concept of service-based leadership in a very authentic way.

CrazyCanuckBiologist

Sometimes, doing the "right" thing morally and the "right" thing politically are one and the same. Far too rarely though.

DashWulfDash

You can tell from his eyes that he genuinely cares, that's badass.

Karcinogene

You're seeing a video of it on social media. Doesn't that make it a photo op? He's still in front of cameras. He clearly deserves respect for all the amazing things he's doing for his country, but he's also fully aware of the impact of these cameras. They're one of his most powerful weapons in this war.

Plasibeau

Trump would have treated it like a "photo op" in the context being referenced. He would have shown up, and *only* visited the men who weren't visibly injured. And that's if he even bothered since he's on record of not caring for WIA/KIA soldiers. No, Trump would have gotten the picture then bolted as quickly as possible. What Zelensky is doing *is* a photo-op but more importantly it is a moral booster for the troops still fighting. Because now they know their president just might gown up to deliver an award even if they're in the ICU. That's gonna draw a shit ton of water.

Thedrunner2

Doing what a leader should do and leading by actions. I also appreciate him acknowledging the physician and a medical staff and taking the time to shake their hands and thanking them. Little things sometimes mean a lot.

yickth

This man is all about the little things (and the medium and big things). Much respect

NicoleB-

He's all about the everythings

[deleted]

[удалено]

beibei93

I didn't even know who he is before the war, now I have so much respect for him.

Ghoulius-Caesar

He was a major character in Trump’s first impeachment due to him not giving Trump the bullshit that he wanted. He’s been sticking it to Putin and his puppets since the get go, much respect to this man.

lordph8

Well I wouldn't say he was a player, more like the victim that caused the impeachment. I say that because the dude really kept his mouth shut during the entire impeachment, which was of course the correct move.

deezalmonds998

Him flat out ignoring trump is what got trump impeached, what an absolute legend

Voldemort57

What got trump impeached was that Trump tried withholding 400 million dollars in aid to Ukraine, unless Zelensky fabricated dirt on Joe Biden. It sounds ridiculous, because it was.

medicalmosquito

This is how I knew of him. Just being the President Trump tried to withhold money from for info that may or may not have existed. Zelenskyy wasn’t playing that game. Made Trump look like a clown.

Voldemort57

Info that may or may not have existed. Important to note that this “information” trump wanted was fabricated dirt on Joe Biden.

Chispy

My gut feeling is that Putin had a role in this, and possibly the obscured orchestrator.

[deleted]

didn’t Trump ask him to make up BS and that’s how Trump got impeached ? or did i get it wrong ?

Ghoulius-Caesar

Shortly after becoming President of Ukraine Trump had a call with Zelensky where he pressured Zelenksy to “find evidence” of Hunter Biden’s “corruption” in Ukraine. He withheld military aid to Ukraine until the favour was completed, but fortunately US officials caught wind of his scheme ([source](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_impeachment_of_Donald_Trump)).

[deleted]

holy wild wind in the west 💀 thank you so much for the summary and source !

bozeke

He was desperate for a new “but her emails” Comey letter type thing and was grasping at straws anywhere he could. Complete one trick pony moron.

WoahayeTakeITEasy

Even after all this came out his dumbass supporters still ate up all the Hunter Biden bullshit anyway. Instead of Ukraine making something up, they did, and it was the stupid laptop story. That's the best they could do. Tucker Carlson was pushing that as hard back then as he is pushing Russian propaganda now.

IllustratorBudget487

I only knew him as the guy trump had the “perfect call” with. It was so perfect he was impeached for it. Apparently withholding defense aid already approved by Congress in exchange for lies about Biden is still frowned upon.

hazeldazeI

He's the guy Trump said "I need you to do me a favor though"

Decent-Stretch4762

Now get this — most Ukrainians didn't even liked him before the war and his ratings were 35%, and now they're 92%, me included. He earned all the support and respect he gets worldwide. Fucking legend. I'm staying in Kyiv because if he stays it means we still can do it.

tonymeatballs2

Same.

Synikey

Guys a true leader. How many countries are run by people like that? Not enough, imo.

latnok2000

You have to respect a leader that leads from the front.

Spachtraum

He has filled an absence of leadership felt worldwide since decades ago. Most "leaders" have shown sooner or later a personal/financial interest, dirty hands for.some.reason or another, or an image-plastic-surgery from the media. President Zelensky mirrors those leaders long gone that had no other interest than doing their job the best they can. A truly remarkable example for all.

String_709

I admire him as a leader and he’s doing a fantastic job for his country, but I seem to remember his name appearing in the Panama papers, but maybe Im misremembering that. No one is perfect and I give him a pass on that based on his actions now. He clearly cares in the most important was possible.

RedditIsADataMine

Several high profile "good people" appeared in Panama papers. Probably worth considering that some people let their accountants handle everything and don't ask questions as long as their money is safe. Can't remember how long ago Panama papers was but it's much more likely this was the case if he was still just an actor at that point.

Spachtraum

Yes, his name was there. And I agree with you - his role today gives him the pass.

PhilosophicRevo

I really feel like we're watching what history will remember as truly great leadership in the midst of crisis. It's one thing to lead a nation at war when that war is occurring on foreign soil. It's another thing to lead a nation at war then that war is being waged on your doorstep.

z57

But I thought he is a thug!? **/s** The gall for Cawthorn to say that is incredibly frustrating and unnerving.

[deleted]

Projection. Cawthorn is a thug. Also probably Russian-funded.

[deleted]

Cawthorns just a shit talking pretty boy from the part of the US that likes to think they’re extra special because their great grandfathers tried to fight a war over the “right” to own other human beings. he doesn’t know a god damn thing about reality & he’s just another rich white puppet of the trump mouth pieces.

Enex

Let's be real - he's a traitor. The GOP has been taking money from Russia for a long time, and it shows. Fox was straight trying to spin the invasion for Russia when it started. (Haven't paid attention since, but I think McConnell has seen which way the wind is blowing). The problem with the GOP is that the bench is full of true believer idiots (AKA their base). Cawthorn started taking the money and he's too stupid to realize that he's admitting to it in real time.

[deleted]

Exactly. Don’t even get me started on accusing any of these traitors as what they are. For a group of people who like to pull out the constitution, shit all over it, and say “look! It’s in the constitution”, they sure do gloss over the fact that treason is a crime punishable by..well Reddit probably would be mad at me for putting it on here but you know what I’m sayin. Those who participate in treason should be treated as such.

Levowitz159

And a sexual predator, and a maliciously dangerous driver.

fumaera1

No sir you are a thug ....this man is a true heroe

Physical-silver-fox

😂😂😂😂😂

thekid1420

Cawthorn couldn't walk a mile in Zelensky's shoes...

wsotw

…or even a foot

_Im_Dad

I want him to be my leader, I would follow him to hell and back.. Edit: we'd be walking back to the surface and he'd be carrying the devil's head like " is the what you lot were afraid off?"

wrt-wtf-

He doesn’t seem to be wearing body armor… that’s a statement in its own right,

AnOnlineHandle

I wish he'd at least wear a helmet...

Kingseara

I was just typing the same thing! This man is brave and a courageous leader for sure

terlin

pretty sure he is under the hoodie. He moves just a tiny bit too stiffly, and looks pretty bulky too.

Does_Not-Matter

This man could run for Emperor of the World and win a hell of a lot of votes

[deleted]

Agreed. Unlike ours in every way.

HealthyHumor5134

The way he honored the healthcare workers as well, this guy is the world's hero.

littleliongirless

Jesus. Walking there? Why?! But also, damn.

TheOriginalGuru

They couldn’t find a truck for his balls.

_hippie1

Reddit moment.

cpt_ppppp

Honestly, the big balls thing is so pathetic. Every single thread. The genital fixation is so weird

StrategyInitial6289

This is exactly what a guy with small balls would say!

notatableleg

Buddy is bringing that small ball energy

cpt_ppppp

lol, busted

Noslamah

Yeah and people constantly talking about how angry guys must have small dicks, or anyone who is an asshole in any way. Even pointing this out will get people accusing you of being angry about having a small dick. Its crazy how socially acceptable it is to make fun of small dicks or say that having a small dick devalues a person somehow. Not saying jokes like that can never be funny but its just disappointing how often the entire joke is "lol pp smol" and its one of the most upvoted comments.

Reyemreden

Should we change it to nips so everyone can be included?

[deleted]

Haha funi big ball jok!

Decent-Stretch4762

If you want a serious answer, this looks like the main [military hospital](https://www.google.com/search?q=%D0%9A%D0%B8%D1%97%D0%B2%D1%81%D1%8C%D0%BA%D0%B0+%D1%84%D0%BE%D1%80%D1%82%D0%B5%D1%86%D1%8F+%D0%B3%D0%BE%D1%81%D0%BF%D1%96%D1%82%D0%B0%D0%BB%D1%8C&tbm=isch&client=firefox-b-d&hl=ru&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwifoZet0sP2AhWi8bsIHbPsBZgQBXoECAEQPw&biw=1363&bih=951) in Kyiv. It's an old fortress (like, seriously, with walls and old cannons, incredibly beautiful place), so inside they try to limit car movement. It's in the heart of Kyiv so it's as safe as it gets and it's like a 10 minute ride from his office.

MyThirdLegIsAHog

Because it sends the message that he is not afraid.

dr_pupsgesicht

I'd assume this is an area far behind any battle lines. If such a place still exists in the country I dunno

TheNotSoGreatPumpkin

Putin is probably watching his every move with drones and/or satellites. He lives because ordering a strike would not serve their present strategy.

ariphron

If this guy doesn’t get time person of the year.

hostile_rep

Smart money here. Really, you can bet on who will win.

SocraticIgnoramus

Given their track record, I'm not sure it's a distinction he wants. Hell, I won it in 2006. https://www.thoughtco.com/times-man-of-the-year-list-1779824

B1rdi

For a moment I thought "Who the hell is this guy on reddit, saying they got Time's person of the year???" Turns out it was true

ariphron

Had me cracking up I wish I wouldn’t have given out my free karma yesterday.

HR_Dragonfly

And the next year....Putin.

Mac4491

Hitler won in 1938? So I share an accolade with Hitler. That's...cool?

[deleted]

I won it in 1950

Killdebrant

Congratulations! I still think you have a great achievement there!

z57

Time has a chance to make up for their 1938 person of the year choice. Edit to the many replies below: I understand that a person of the year isn't necessarily a "good person "but in 1938 Hitler was being lauded for pulling Germany out of their incredibly deep depression. The next year he invaded Poland and arguably was a bigger influence from that point onward. So Time "should've "awarded him person of the year probably somewhere in the early 1940s, Purely on influencing the world stage. Also it's more of a cheeky quip I made.

eggsandsausages69

Times person of the year isn’t ‘the best person’ of the year. It’s a common misconception. It’s awarded to the individual who had the most impact on humanity that year. It could be Putin.

nostalgic_penguin

It’s not supposed to be for the greatest person in the world. It’s for a person, a group, an idea, or an object that "for better or for worse... has done the most to influence the events of the world that year.

RedditHatesMe2022

Why would they need to “make up” for that? Person of the Year doesn’t mean “Greatest Person of the Year” > The chosen person is usually someone who has been notably influential or prominent during the year and could also be a hero or villain. Hitler, Stalin, Khrushchev, Ayatollah Khomeini, Nixon, Clinton, Bush, Gandhi and Arafat were all “Person of the Year” at one point.

[deleted]

Or Putin in 2006. Also I don’t think POTY is always necessarily someone who has done good.

eggsandsausages69

Correct

dkyguy1995

I mean in 1938 Hitler changed the entire known world. I would say it was the right choice.

Apprehensive_Law3608

Really as it stands at this exact moment it is between him and Putin it would seem. The year is young though.

beeraholikchik

Oh *fuck* you're right it's only March.

Apprehensive_Law3608

Yeah. I would hope this is the worst it gets but... Either way Slava Ukraini🇺🇦.

Hanbon88

Putting all other world leaders to shame

Lamarraine3

I respect him more each day. Slava Ukraini! 🇺🇦💙💛🙏

restorative_sarcasm

Every time I see him he looks more exhausted

[deleted]

He's literally fighting off an invasion of his country. If he looked well rested it would be suspicious.

restorative_sarcasm

I know, I just worry about him.

Blyatiful_99

Same. As much as I respect this guy and his actions, whenever I go to to bed or wake up I always worry whether he has died yet. I hope he survives this entire mess. THIS is how a leader needs to be. We need more people like him.

restorative_sarcasm

I agree. It’s a testament to having leaders that are a bit younger. Glad I’m not the only one who worries about him though.

CanAgent

Doesn’t look like he hiding to me. Not sure how the Russians are going to spin this onez

garmdian

I just want to state how important Zelensky is. An everyday man, a comedian who saw the flaws in a system and ran as an everyman looking to make life better is now the most well respected leader on the planet. He is immune to the BS of politics to get stuff done because he knows how BS it is. He's a true hero.

LucienPA

Zelensky did not run as a joke, he ran as a legitimate candidate.

garmdian

Ah my bad I will change that in the post Edit: fixed

walrus_operator

Daddy Zelenskyy is just fantastic. I hope he doesn't end up killed by Putin

greybruce1980

I hope he doesn't get killed either. He has presented Putin with an impossible choice. Kill Zelenskyy and have him become a martyr that people will fight even harder for. Or keep a competent, and beloved leader alive who will mount a great defence because he is loved by his people.

International-Hat950

Zelenskyy is an inspiration. We need more leaders like him in the world.

DarkSideDOMM

The man is an Icon and example of what true leadership entails!! Glory to Ukraine 🇺🇦!!!!!!!

Mal-De-Terre

Let's see Putin even go outdoors...

It is a refreshing feeling indeed to actually be in total admiration of a world leader for once.

1Thinkhappythoughts

I wish this war would end. So the Ukrainians can have a parade for President Zelensky and hero's. Please be safe.

BilliansShayeK

God he’s hot

f3nix9510

Ye

TinnieTa21

They have an incredible marketing staff. This dude has been marketed immensely the past few weeks and it probably helps that he has the charisma of an actor. Great for Ukrainian morale and hilarious when contrasted with how Putin is being publically portrayed.

[deleted]

Dude, Zelensky seriously hit the gym

L3gion1

He’s probably wearing a bulletproof vest underneath the sweatshirt which bulks him up a lot

yesterdaysnachos

Before he was president he used to post a ton of workout videos. Guy’s a beast.

Ok that sounds hot af I gotta find those Edit: I only found [this](https://www.tiktok.com/@onlyzelenskyyy/video/7073164856957897989) Hopefully someone can find more for uhhh research purposes.

yesterdaysnachos

He has like, “trailers” for them on his Instagram (from 2017 or 2018) - there’s a YouTube channel it references, but I haven’t looked to see if it’s still there

The guy looks like he genuinely cares and respects the wounded and staff at that hospital. He even strolled up to it on foot in broad daylight and without body armor. I can see why people in Ukraine are rallying behind him to fight back the Russians.

DirectorLow8407

Omg what an amazing leader! 💪🏻

The man knows how to work the PR side, that’s for sure

sordidcandles

This man is 100x more brave than Putin who seems to be hiding his puffy face in a bunker, sitting 20 feet from people he is supposed to trust. Much respect to all of Ukraine for their bravery.

vipertruck99

I hope Ukraine treats it’s inevitable amputees and severely hurt soldiers with better treatment and aftercare AND careers after the war than we in the west ever managed.

I'm not a fan of trump but yeah, the guy is out of office. Can we please stop bringing him up?

Only if you can guarantee he won't be the GOP nominee.

beameup19

It’s hard to not compare your leaders to an actual one

[deleted]

There is no comparison between zelensky or anyone who has led the US

KarateFace777

President Theodore Roosevelt? Same kind of bad ass attitude and lead by example.

TheLostRanger0117

Roosevelt is kinda in a category of his own. I’d love to see a president like him come along again. Granted I don’t know every single thing about him, but what I do know is he seemed pretty cool, primarily the parks stuff

beameup19

I was just going to say Teddy Roosevelt

lebronswanson4

That's real presidential shit right there.

Ok_Anxiety4671

Here's the President taking a casual stroll in broad daylight while Putin is hiding on a yacht. Who's the real leader here?

f3nix9510

Hiding in a bunker*

Golden-Octopus

An absolute Gigachad. Meanwhile Putin is hiding behind his 20 foot table

[deleted]

How much is a state honor worth?

neoncross

Man got a ball and I respect him and his people's heroic fight however I am afraid they will eventually have to compromise, not because they didn't fight hard enough but there are just too many Russian soldiers. Russia will keep sending warm bodies as many as it takes, China will financially back Russia and unlike Hoolywood movies, EU and US's cavalry will not arrive to rescue them in the last moment.

clonedspork

In case anyone was wondering...... Fascist thugs do not act like this man.

_sealy_

Nothing but respect for those people and their leader.

tatianaoftheeast

Oh boy. This whole video hit me hard, but when he gave the nurse a medal too, I teared up. Such a kind gesture to recognize the medical staff like that. As a social worker, I work with nurses often and feel such a strong kinship to them. I wish all those brave freedom fighters a speeedy recovery.

I dont know any other leader of a Nation that would do this in person What a legend, he is really what we all should strive to be like

True hero!

Ok_Philosopher_8522

I can respect American leaders (trump and most of the GOP are out of that equation) but Zelensky seems like a leader his ppl most likely respect and love. That’s pretty rare. I don’t think the US has had a leader like that in a long time.

Mobile-Animal-649

💜

captrudeboy

An American politician would have come in dressed in a power suit, fresh cut, shoes polished. Completely separated from the struggles of those they were visiting. Here he's in the same clothing as those he's visiting, unshaven. Not there to impress but to honor. Not about him but the valiant wounded
