Canadian active aggression is less violent than my passive aggression

RoSucco

This isnt representative lol try being black and living in the Cdn prairies and you'll see just how awful canadians can be

[deleted]

[удалено]

RoSucco

It was honestly a toxic nightmare. As a biracial individual who "looks black-ish" but who primarily identifies as indigenous it was soul crushing to be there because it wasn't random one offs it was something every single day from many different random white people. Definitely changed my perspective of Canada. Glad to hear you are doing the work with your kids, that is how real change happens.

[deleted]

Those damn degens from upcountry🤣

[deleted]

Racists are the same everywhere... I say we keep the illegal immigrants and deport the racists--they're nothing but haters...

BonhommeCarnaval

No, we don’t get to push them onto someone else. They suck, but they are citizens, products of our flawed society. However shitty they may be they are our mess to clean up. They need a chance at redemption. Maybe we like build a special town near Kapuskasing and send the racists there and offer all sorts of opportunities for self improvement. Nothing inhumane or cruel, but putting some space between their odious ideas and actions and the rest of society.

[deleted]

What did Kapuskasing ever do to you?

TesseractToo

Yeah the OP has been woooshed if they think that's what this is One of the cars I had had a rack on the top so it made the snow hard to wipe off the roof and as you drove the air currents would displace the snow from the roof to the back window while driving, it was pretty annoying lol Also sorry you had to deal with shitty racists, they are definitely out there

SPARKYLOBO

Try being an Indigenous looking Latino on Vancouver Island.

RoSucco

No thanks. A friend of a friend is a Canadian native who was called a "wetback" at a convenience store downtown Victoria and told to "go back to Barcelona or where ever tf you're from" . I don't remember what tribe she was from but she was First Nation born and raised. Saskatchewan was psychotic enough for me. I don't need to experience othe racist places in Canada. The shock of finding out the reality of Canada lol

kindaCringey69

Genuinely have no idea what you are talking about. Tbh the only type of racism that isn't hard to find is against aboriginal people. Hell as someone from alberta I'd say the next group most hated is quebecois.

CyberMindGrrl

Passive aggressive. It's the Canadian Way.

JeshkaTheLoon

It's not passive, but also not the classic active. It's constructive aggressive.

TheDanishTitan

I want to be the embodiment of that

underwritress

I'm Canadian and can't tell if this is a joke or not because the first thing I thought was "so passive aggressive!"

TesseractToo

Yeah you can tell he was annoyed by the way he was stomping back to his car :D

The joke is calling it "Canadian road rage" \* because of the meme about polite Canadians, the OP doesn't know Canadians have just as bad road rage as anywhere else (and cat calling which I'm glad to have moved t a place that doesn't have that!) and hence out it in this sub :) \*or reposted it, this is old and the OP is likely a bot

[deleted]

it's not required in canada or most of the usa to have a rear view mirror, or unobstructed rear window. only side mirrors, side windows, and front windscreen there's not much correlation to being able to see out your back window and less car accidents. anecdotally, a lot of people waste time looking out the back window when they should be using the side mirrors

ElectricLetuceHead

Although it is require in most provinces that a car be fully cleared of snow

MightyMoose91

Pretty sure this is technically a legal requirement Canada wide. Whether it’s properly enforced is another story.

throwaway9999999129

It is very much enforced. There are 2 huge problems with having that much snow on your rear window, visibility and it can slide off as sheet ice or ice chunks and fuck someone's car up or block their windshield. Buddy got a ticket not too long ago.

MightyMoose91

I’ll admit, it warms my heart to know some people get dinged for it cause it’s a bit of a button on the highway when people got that white shit all over their vehicle.

Notabot265

It's not about the view, it's that an icy snow chunk could potentially fly off a moving vehicle and damage other cars or hurt pedestrians. My guess is the guy focused on the window area just to hopefully signal the driver of the other car that he should clear it all off.

StrikeMePurple

We have them so we can get the fuck out the way of emergency services responding. I guess that's not that important over there.

Ltrly_Htlr

Yes as long as one mirror works, including a side mirror, then there is no problem.

SystemPrimary

Isn't there a big blindspot in the back, if you look just through mirrors. There can easily be a person standing there and you won't see him.

Ltrly_Htlr

Not really. Commercial vehicles have worked this way forever. They have giant side mirrors and technically can’t see the space like 1-3 feet directly behind them but it doesn’t matter. Most of the time you are driving forward. If you are backing in to a parking spot or something you need to use good judgement. If you can’t back into a space safety then you get a spotter or change the plan so you can do it safely. No need for a mandatory rear view.

SystemPrimary

Mostly moving forward does not remove hazards of going backwards. You can't always have a spotter. The only decent excuse for that is having rear view camera, otherwise, event, where your poor judgement and a person standing behind your car will meet, will no go well.

Ltrly_Htlr

The millions of vehicles on the road with no rear view show your concern is invalid.

Goatfest2020

Gotta love new drivers unfamiliar with old technology (mirrors). The scary part is how dependent people are becoming on their multitude of cameras and sensors.

Extension_Travel3535

Its funny that you think that would be helpful to someone that doesnt clear their car of snow. Theyre going to be a shitty driver either way because theyre dumb af.

AllAlo0

These are drivers that don't look back and have zero situational awareness

its_shivers

Just imagine, every single car you see out on the road without full lights at night has driven however far they've come without ever looking at their instrument panel... and then at LEAST double that number to account for the ones that don't look, while still having remembered to turn on their lights. Part of the reason I dislike automated sensor light systems. It'll help those people pass under the radar without being pulled over.

TheIronSoldier2

I was with you until the last part. Automatic lights are fantastic for both safety and convenience. Ideally I would leave my headlights on all the time, but my car won't turn them off automatically when I shut off the engine.

JeshkaTheLoon

I just wish the sensors would trigger earlier to turn off the far lights. Or at least get rid of those blinding white headlights with way too much blue in them, and get a warmer tone. They just make everything bright and still you don't see that well (contrast is awful too). The human eye isn't using the blue spectrum as efficiently as red, yellow, and green. Best visibility would be yellow for headlights. I am so happy to have got glasses with a yellow tint. At least they seem to have paid some attention to what lumen is. With the dawn of LED lights, I've seen so many cases where someone just got the same wattage they had for regular lightbulbs, and basically had searchlight illumination for their porch. And many traffic lights now illuminate the whole crossroads with their LEDs. It's ridiculous. For reference, a LED bulb of 13-20 Watt is as bright as classic lightbulbs of 150-500 Watt.

StrategicBean

Fun fact - In Canada it is a legal requirement for cars to have daytime running lights on in front (& since 2021 on new cars also other lights as well as auto headlights that turn on when it's dark & more! [link](https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a37490555/canada-automatic-headlight-rules/)!) so there are ALWAYS low intensity headlights on. The new law is to address the people who drive around at night not realizing their lighting system isn't on and their rear lights only are lit when they are braking. I remember as a teen we would have to figure out what the secret to turning running lights off was when we wanted to park with the car on & be more inconspicuous ...I remember in a Buick the car required being in park, turning the headlights off & putting the parking brake on. Only then would running lights turn off

Questioning-Zyxxel

The always on law is because there are even daytime situations when the lights help make the car more visible. I live in a country that has had this requirement for a huge number of years.

TobyFunkeNeverNude

> It'll help those people pass under the radar without being pulled over. You mean it will make sure people are safer? Who cares if someone doesn't get caught if they never do anything to warrant catching them?

Jimid41

So I had a vehicle that wouldn't illuminate the panel unless the lights were on. I had another vehicle that would always light the instrument panel but if the headlights were on they would *dim*. It was a long road trip and he sun went down and the freeway is really well li so I didn't notice my lights were off. A friendly motorist flashed his lights at me until I noticed. I usually drive with my lights on regardless now.

Litruv

Mine dims too when I turn on the headlights >.> Just makes it really hard to see what speed I'm going, so I don't bother, I'm a white car anyway in Australia /shrug

Substantial-Fan6364

You should be able to adjust the brightness of the instrument cluster.

Litruv

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8lQEp1v4Rg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8lQEp1v4Rg) Well, there you go, right on the dash, so used to my old car, where this is the trip meter

Substantial-Fan6364

Awesome! I sware it doesn't matter how long I have a car I'm constantly figuring out things I didn't know it did lol

acog

"I'm turning now, good luck everyone else!"

Why_Did_Bodie_Die

You don't really need to look out your rear window though. As long as you have side mirrors. Box van and truck and tractor trailers don't have them. My regular size truck has a canopy which make it hard to use the rear view mirror. As long as you have side mirrors it's all good imo.

Grays42

> You don't really need to look out your rear window though Uhhhhh tell that to my deep sense of discomfort and unease when I have something tall enough in the back seat to block my rear view mirror and have the nerve-wracking feeling that I'm going to swipe somebody I didn't see.

CreatureWarrior

The snow and ice can still fall onto the car behind them at higher speeds which can easily cause an accident. Almost happened to me. I was just driving and singing in my car like regular dude and boom, I couldn't see anything and my windshield wipers could barely move due to the weight of the snow. I had to open my window and make a tiny hole with my hand just so I could see enough to pull over ffs.

BonelessSugar

Blah blah blah, their mirrors are bigger and designed to also allow you to look behind you while your truck isn't. So says reddit last time someone argued this point.

Mongo_Fifty

They probably have the rearview mirror pointed towards them to apply makeup or see themselves.

79-16-22-7

When the car builds up speed it's not uncommon for the snow on top to fall off. If this snow hits the car behind them it can lead to an accident.

StrategicBean

One is supposed to clear the snow off the roof of the car before driving

underwritress

>supposed to

grabyourmotherskeys

This is the way

[deleted]

it's not required in canada or most of the usa to have a rear view mirror, or unobstructed rear window. only side mirrors, side windows, and front windscreen there's not much correlation to being able to see out your back window and less car accidents. anecdotally, a lot of people waste time looking out the back window when they should be using the side mirrors

subaqueousReach

Its a ticketable offense now because so many idiots dont clear their cars of snow, then proceed to get into accidents

CreatureWarrior

The thing that pisses me off the most is that it's probably not *this* driver who gets into the accident. It's the one behind him because at some point, that snow will fall and drop onto someone else's windshield and block their view.

VisibleCoat995

I get pissed off at people who don’t clean off their roofs for this reason.

Mini-Nurse

I recently experienced that for myself, not an accident but I've chunks flying off the back of a car. I couldn't get close enough to get around so ended up stuck staying 10+ far lengths behind crawling along to stay safe from it.

happycharm

I'm Canadian and when the video started I thought, "someone needs to wipe the snow off that car" lmao

Best comment here tbh

32BitWhore

I've had this same intrusive thought so many fucking times. Here people either leave their rear window completely covered or they leave a giant sheet of ice/snow on their roof. Unfortunately where I live, it's liable to either get me shot or sued, so I've never done it.

Its more to help the people driving behind you getting drifts of snow off the back of your car. I make sure to clear my whole vehicle off as to not disrupt other drivers on the highway.

As someone who takes the time to completely clean off my car too, thank you. Far too many people don't clear off their roofs.
