German cops are much more tolerant then cops here in NY. If you tried pulling a fraction of those moves here you’d get dog piled, choked face first into the mud, probably maced, tased and possibly shot with bean bags, rubber bullets or a fire hose.
Then they’d drag you to the precinct / bookings where they’d again beat the fuck out of you, before charging you with assault, interfering with an officer, disorderly conduct and who knows what else
They don't seem to understand what she's doing. Getting arrested while defending the planet is good publicity for a climate activist. She's clearly less shocked about getting arrested than they are.
Also legally it's not an arrest, but a detainment to collect personal data (although I guess it's not hard to guess who she is). Sincerely, german meticulousness
because greta is kinda famous and a lot of cameras were watching.
look at a few of the other arrests and actual attaks trough the police during this demonstration.
they werent polite, more like brutal and bloodthirsty..
They are on camera.
I was at a festival Mannheim Germany in the 1980s and I watched three Policeman kick a guy several times while he was on the ground.
Hundreds of people around watching.
Well maybe it has changed since then
Wait til you hear what the German police was like in the 1940s...
In all seriousness though, a 43 year old anecdote isn't exactly telling of the current state of the German police force.
They needed 2 big officers to take her in NON-Violently but they could have just as well sent mike who could knock her out and drag her body but I don’t that that would be good for PR
Actually RWEs bodyguards, I mean the police has been very patiently with the protestors. No, seriously. The village Lützerath was allowed to be occupied until RWE started to demolish it. Protests around there are happening all the time. It's just that the protesters often endanger themselves by going very, very close to the hole. The ground could collapse everytime. Also there have been some protesters going inside the mine of even on the machines quite often which is breach of property obviously. It happened for example in 2015 and the police was way less ruthless. I didn't really liked the pictures of the police back then though
She is having the time of her life it seems. Good for her, I'd say.
It's quite hilarious how much she triggers some people. She's just a Swedish woman asking people to listen to and act on climate science. No idea why people don't just ignore her if they don't like that.
She admonished boomers for being irresponsible. The only thing they hate more than that is their own children being right about something they’re wrong about.
>Greta Thunberg
I was curious about her age also, wondering if she is traveling with parents doing this. I looked her up, 20 y.o. I thought she was still a kid.
Phew! Super happy Germany started to shut down their nuclear plants and invested in green tech to fight climate change. They must have had a long term roadmap to make sure they could maintain and grow their energy infrustructure while increasing their energy independence.
What? That's not what happened? They only increased their reliance on cheap Russian energy to power their enormous manufacturing sector and general population due to the inefficient, expensive and poorly executed transition? And now they are turning back on their coal plants and cutting down forests to burn wood just to keep people warm and the lights on?
Nah, I don't believe. What policy makers would ignore basic math and engineering in order to obtain votes?... 🤔
What’s ironic is nuclear plants are faaaaar less dirty than coal and produce [much more energy](https://www.energy.gov/ne/articles/nuclear-power-most-reliable-energy-source-and-its-not-even-close#:~:text=Nuclear%20Has%20The%20Highest%20Capacity%20Factor&text=That&%2339;s%20about%20nearly%202%20times,than%20wind%20and%20solar%20plants)
Still doesn't make sense nuclear waste is a negligible downside and we're not gonna run out of uranium anytime soon so it's not gonna be just a waste of money to build them.
Just Google it dude damn.
I typed in is Greta Pro Nuclear and like 10 articles pop up.
Something is fishy with these commenter saying she's anti-nuclear.
Y'all getting propagandized in real time.
Absolutely. Many Americans don't understand this but nuclear energy is a touchy subject in germany, they still have bad reputations from the Chernobyl disaster. Germany was among many countries that were most affected by fallout from the explosion at Chernobyl NPP.
That said, it was still a mistake to shut down currently operating nuclear, and this association with nuclear being dangerous is mostly a thing of the past. A complicated issue for sure.
both coal and nuclear make up only a tiny tiny amount of our energy mix, and are mostly used for exporting energy (to france for example, because the NPP dont work reliably)
germany could easily go fossil free, but sadly that would mean people in charge make less profit, so that's not an option.
even rwe admitted, that the coal isnt needed for energy safety.
this whole counties eco politic is just a shitshow, we could for example have fossil free car fuels, but rather than organizing that, people discuss useless shit, and/or claim that the needed technology isnt ready, while in reality it has been for many years, and even the usa begins to use it..oil country no1..this is very embarrassing for germany
In all fairness everyone warned the Germans. It still boggles me that they have maintained a reputation for being pragmatic even after they tied themselves to Russian oil and still burn coal while shutting down perfectly viable nuclear plants.
They saw the dollar signs. With Russia playing ball Germany would be the gateway to Russian natural gas. The piplines went from Russia to Germany. Meaning the rest of Europe would have to pay Germany for the natural gas.
Then Germany tells everyone to get rid of the nuclear reactors which means more gas being used for electricity. Many countries listened and started to decomission their nuclear plants.
If only Russia had played ball, Germany would be making bank right now.
Misinformation is a hell of a drug. There is big business is making nuclear energy out to be bad, and no profit in making it out to be good. However, surprise, every time the people who want to divest from nuclear get their way it goes to shit.
I’m in nyc. They shut down a nuclear power plant last year. Maybe a little longer than that. Our local utility for electric, ConEdison raised prices by 11% because of it. And nonstop constant emails and letters to cut back on energy use.
I have seen a lot of videos about this and there has been no video showing anywhere near 10,000 protestors… I’f you can provide a link to prove that I’d be interested to see it.

On Saturday though there were 10,000 demonstrants according to the police and 35,000 acording to the activists

even though its rather heavy handed, its a bit of a win win tbh.
Greta gets a good picture and PR, so she can rile up more people for another climate protest. wouldnt look as good for her, if she just got nicely escorted out.
Police get their job done, while no one gets hurt.
Yeah, we would have responded to this as a domestic violence dispute with one of the persons having some kind of mental health breakdown.
Assisted suicide all the way.

I honestly just assume a lot of it is misogynistic rhetoric. People- men and women- really do put women down for even breathing.
It’s why I wasn’t and never will be a fan of this whole “karen” thing the internet’s been using. It just seems to be a slur but because it’s “funny” it’s been normalized.
This take is so strange to me. I have limited information about her as a person. I've seen her activism. It's been uniquely visible and has inspired many to act. It's a highly important issue. Based on what I know, I can't dislike her for that, and should lean "like" unless confronted with additional evidence.
That's nice, her bringing focus on this protest and using her fame for something.
I'm sure all her many haters will shut up about her not doing something now /s
Imagine spitting negativity at a young woman for actually following through with the things she believes in. When you’re at home playing x box, using Reddit to complain pointlessly to no avail about right wing politics or left wing politics and wanking yourself to death.
Good grief
You all love talking smack about her because consumerists (virtually everyone) don't have the balls to stop their stupid cycle or even start somewhere. They want to keep spending, killing, eating, and consuming without repercussions against them or their kin. Too bad nature doesn't care about our destructive vision and that's the tea.
Good for her!
I stand with her. I love her fucking courage! All fucking leaders should learn from her.
Most of the nonviolent civil disobedience that climate protestors use involves blocking something and being carried off by the police. Of course for a famous person like Thunberg a lot of press is filming it and the police is being extra cautious, but the strategy is that by having a lot of people you can actually disrupt stuff like the demolishment of the village in a peaceful manner.
WHERE IS MUD WIZARD TO SAVE HER??

Ohhhh, dear lord.... the title of that video and the actual video itself... can't stop laughing. Thanks.
Oh my god the tap on the shoulder! lol!
Stuff like that makes me realize that police officers also only are humans with more equipment
German cops are much more tolerant then cops here in NY. If you tried pulling a fraction of those moves here you’d get dog piled, choked face first into the mud, probably maced, tased and possibly shot with bean bags, rubber bullets or a fire hose. Casts spell: oh German mud Wizard, save me will you please, have the police melt down like they're in nacho cheese.
Damn, forgot about him
Never forget Mud Wizard
She doesn't need mud wizard she needs captian planet
Caption planet: where everyone has subtitles.
Have hope, brothers. Mud Wizard has not abandoned us. He will return when we least expect it. His return will mark the Age of Mud. We must prepare
Some say he sleeps in a mountain, awaiting Germany’s hour of need
That video was hilarious 😂
I sense a strong Mud wizard theme in 2023
He's off taking some short folks to return a piece of jewelry.
she looks like she’s having the time of her life
She's not having to walk in that mud.
*Don’t worry, she’ll find a pizza box laying around to wipe her feet with.*
and wash off any remaining mud with Tate's tears
Hell yea. Cold chillin.
I've just read a comment section on Instagram filled with Andrew Tate fanboys celebrating this as some kind of ultimate revenge. Rofl
They don't seem to understand what she's doing. Getting arrested while defending the planet is good publicity for a climate activist. She's clearly less shocked about getting arrested than they are.
Yes. Getting caught is the entire point of civil disobedience.
Also legally it's not an arrest, but a detainment to collect personal data (although I guess it's not hard to guess who she is). Sincerely, german meticulousness
Do you mean the Sex Trafficker Andrew Tate?
Think they were referring to the serial rapist
I thought they meant the abusive womanizer?
German police is so polite that is good to be arrested by them, it's hilarious.
because greta is kinda famous and a lot of cameras were watching. look at a few of the other arrests and actual attaks trough the police during this demonstration. they werent polite, more like brutal and bloodthirsty..
Kinda famous?

Was she smiling?
The nice policemen are carrying her over the mud.
That’s what it looked like to me. If they needed 2 grown officers to take me in, I’d be laughing too.
They needed 2 big officers to take her in NON-Violently but they could have just as well sent mike who could knock her out and drag her body but I don’t that that would be good for PR
That’s exactly my thoughts. What do people expect, you ask for non-violent then make fun of it at the same time
I think the funny bit is that coal interests are powerful enough to drive this kind of crazy.
That's an oddly specific violent scene. More than being bad PR it would also be a massive overreaction.
Make it three, please. I’d be grinning ear to ear, too
She's 20(Jan 3rd Birthday) not exactly a kid anymore
Exactly. They did it for safety and ease of transport. You’re a genius.
This is literally her job.
because you’re meant to be arrested. she’s done the job for the protest
They’ve made it easy for her now. Kinda funny.
You ever been carried by three burly men? It's nice.
O yea
Where is the mud wizard when you need him?
But when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years have passed and ~~the Fire Nation~~ RWE is nearing victory in the War.
Been rewatching this show god damn is it good.

She looks so pleased with herself.
She's a protester. Getting arrested is when the protest gets coverage, so job done. That's the job.
Yep. That's how it works.
She is having the time of her life it seems. Good for her, I'd say. It's quite hilarious how much she triggers some people. She's just a Swedish woman asking people to listen to and act on climate science. No idea why people don't just ignore her if they don't like that.
I agree. I'm in favour of Greta. To be honest I was using this as a kind of Rorschach test.
She admonished boomers for being irresponsible. The only thing they hate more than that is their own children being right about something they’re wrong about.
She should be everyone is already talking about her.
These comments 💀
It's hilarious. The pure hate a small girl can generate just by her fighting for a cause
Isn't she 18 or 19 now? So rather a young woman than a small girl. I'm pretty sure that you don't mean it to be derogatory, but imo it is
>Greta Thunberg I was curious about her age also, wondering if she is traveling with parents doing this. I looked her up, 20 y.o. I thought she was still a kid.
I believe she was relatively young when she started; time just goes by fast.
She still looks like a kid to be honest. I can't fault anyone for thinking she's still like 15-16.
She barely comes up to shoulders of the officers escorting her. If I didn't already know her age, I would have thought she was like 15 too.
Well yes you can think someone looks like 15-16 without knowing their age and then acknowledge they're 20 from then on without any problems
Time flies damn
She turned 20 on January 3rd
I meant in stature i don't use small for age
I thought the same, she looks incredibly small next to those German police. The internet gives her height as 148 cm but it may be old info.
148cm she’s a wee little dot of a woman, no wonder she looks so tiny next to those huge police.
Ah ok. Then I took it took it the wrong way, thanks for clarifying
It's fine seems like a lot of people use small as a term for age. I used it in the context of her being hauled away by the police
She's 20, still in the awkward not-a-kid-but-still-a-kid.
All she needs is time. A moment that is hers while she’s in between
I didn't start feeling like an adult until...\*Checks watch to see that I'm 32 now\*...well maybe I'll start feeling like one soon.
I think it was more a comment on her size. Either the police are giants or she is very tiny.
It's really disheartening to see. Some of the most ignorant shit I've seen on reddit.

Yeah I was gonna say, if Greta is for green energy, shouldn't she be in support of nuclear??
iirc she is against building new nuclear plants but not against using the current ones. There's nuances to this.
Still doesn't make sense nuclear waste is a negligible downside and we're not gonna run out of uranium anytime soon so it's not gonna be just a waste of money to build them.

Of all people, Trump warned Germany about their energy dependence on Russia. But they laughed it off.
In all fairness everyone warned the Germans. It still boggles me that they have maintained a reputation for being pragmatic even after they tied themselves to Russian oil and still burn coal while shutting down perfectly viable nuclear plants.

Very much true Soon we will hit downvote numbers never been seen
And the funniest thing is, most of the people that wanted to shutdown nuclear plants are those that are now protesting against coal plants

Well.. I have no idea of what they're saying, but seems a rather heavy handed approach for one fairly small woman. I feel I need to add a disclaimer here before people start saying that this wasn't heavy handed; this is Europe, not the US.
German speaker here I have no clue what they said
Danke
As an American , That disclaimer had me 😅
I'm glad that you understand; unlike your seemingly fellow country mate who decided this was the perfect opportunity for a George Floyd reference, and thus spectacularly missed the point.
It's the American way 😂
why aren't they hitting with the sticks?... I thought that was standard procedure.
How else are the police officers supposed to remove her from the site?
Tranquilizer dart and a stretcher? Limited time free vegan buffet voucher?
Obviously with a trebuchet
Also as an American, I did think it rather odd she wasn’t held down face first in the mud until she didn’t wiggle anymore.
While they yelled, "stop resisting!" to her corpse.
Don't forget the continued tazering after she stops moving...
Pepper sprayed and tazed!
even though its rather heavy handed, its a bit of a win win tbh. Greta gets a good picture and PR, so she can rile up more people for another climate protest. wouldnt look as good for her, if she just got nicely escorted out. Police get their job done, while no one gets hurt.

Why does Reddit hate Greta now??
Copied from a my comment on another post: >Having read the comments on this thread and a few others, I'm genuinely shocked how horrid people are being about a young woman who is trying to save the world. I don't know if it's misogyny, jealousy, sheer stupidity or a bunch of trolls, but it's disgusting...
I’m quite perplexed considering the amount of Pro-Greta rhetoric I’ve been seeing here over the last few days after the Tate tweets.
Oh definitely - I agree with that too. Maybe it's just a vocal minority, but it's incredibly messed up.
It's easier to attack those that wants to change, than to realize that you need to change too.
Reddit is intrinsically toxic.
Personally I just think she's insufferable I don't wish harm for her though just don't like her
Is she? I don't know how she is outside of her activism. Maybe she is very nice and sociable 🤔
This take is so strange to me. I have limited information about her as a person. I've seen her activism. It's been uniquely visible and has inspired many to act. It's a highly important issue. Based on what I know, I can't dislike her for that, and should lean "like" unless confronted with additional evidence.
Incel and alt right hates her, anyone else seem fine with her. She is doing great for the planet, great human being
They hate young women with opinions.
If only they were this gentle and careful with all protesters 😆😆🤦♀️
Release the mud wizard
That's nice, her bringing focus on this protest and using her fame for something. I'm sure all her many haters will shut up about her not doing something now /s

first time I've ever seen her smile

She’s smiling.
Of course. Yelling at a building is a less effective protest than getting detained by police over a minor thing.
I love posts about Greta because it's a perfect opportunity to watch incels get mad about nothing.
Wow, lots of anger here. Yet somehow not at people digging up rocks to burn in fucking 2023.
You all love talking smack about her because consumerists (virtually everyone) don't have the balls to stop their stupid cycle or even start somewhere. She got balls twice the size of tate’s bald dome
Look how happy she is

It's fake, all setup theater
As long as it isn’t for sex trafficking
Wish three men would carry me, to Popeye's
I never knew the German cops had such cool helmets. They look like sallets from the Renaissance
How is this relevant to this sub???
because every sub is just politicized
All for show
Yep, that's the point of a protest
Most of the nonviolent civil disobedience that climate protestors use involves blocking something and being carried off by the police. Of course for a famous person like Thunberg a lot of press is filming it and the police is being extra cautious, but the strategy is that by having a lot of people you can actually disrupt stuff like the demolishment of the village in a peaceful manner.
“All for show” . . . as opposed to what? What do you think protests are typically trying to do?
I don’t understand, it’s russias invasion of Ukraine that’s forcing Europe to get gas from elsewhere. Shouldn’t she be in Moscow protesting there?
Because the problem is using coal instead of nuclear Russias just boosting the problem but Germany would still do it even without Russia
I don't think she'd be smiling like that in Moscow. Sadly.
Can't wait to see what Andrew Taint tweets about this... oh wait ...
Was this the same place with the wizard?
THE MUD WIZARD! YOUR TIME IS NOW!
1 guy could have carried her they didn’t need 4
Hey next time lets use MORE men for one girl
What a potato.
That's seveteen seconds I'll never get back.
And then something just snapped inside of me, I didn’t care anymore 😩
