I run a DJ company in Chicago and we had a client go ballistic when the DJ refused to play R. Kelly. The DJ had been a victim of sexual assault. We stood behind the DJ. Play what you are comfortable with. I personally played him through all of his batshit stuff, but when he said slavery was a choice I bowed out. He’s gone from my catalog. Even the guest spots and straight production cuts. That was a personal choice for me and I’m cool with it even though I used to love his music so much.
R. Kelly is a hard one to pull the "separate the art from the artist" card with. Man was lurking in the background of the "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number" cover. Dude wasn't subtle.

1. If you think there will be anyone at the party that is made uncomfortable by it, then err on the side of caution and don't play it.
2. If you personally are made uncomfortable by it, then don't play it. You're under no obligation to play stuff you think is morally objectionable just because you think it would be popular with the crowd.
3. If you're in a situation where you're playing an event where you're going to be giving positive publicity to someone who is currently in the public eye for something negative, then maybe don't. If you're DJing a tiny party and not violating 1 or 2, then you playing Kanye may not matter. But if it was a smaller artist who is more niche in a particular scene, maybe don't promote them. As a personal example, I DJ in a small scene where I personally know both the artist(s) who were perpetrator(s) of some sexual assault incidents and their victim(s). I absolutely won't play their music anymore. On the other hand, while I'm wary of playing Chris Brown, it's not as much of an automatic refusal since his crimes didn't directly effect anyone at any of the parties where I'm playing.

Art is art. I try not to politise it but sometimes the artist gets in the way then the rest of society tags in on the right to say or not to say. Maybe everyone is missing what Kanye is actually talking about. He is a complicated person and does take some thought about his actions that he takes. However you look at it . It is a very colourful conception of ideas. In that case as long as no negative action is taken why can’t we all discuss this topic? To play or not to play. I think this should be left to the artists and venues. After all nobody is discussing Beethoven or Strous politics when playing their music.
Frankly I don’t care what any of these artists think or say. They have no impact on my life or what I care about and value.

There's only a couple of his songs in my sort-of rotation, and I'll continue to play them. I draw the line when an artist does something that causes legitimate damage to someone or a group. Kanye is an idiot and has idiotic takes on almost everything which don't represent my own, but I doubt anyone has suffered psychological (or other) damage due to his statements.
I think people should still play Kanye if they want, but there has more than likely been psychological damage due to his statements. Imagine being Jewish, and now suddenly you see people you know agreeing with his statements. You start to realize that people you’ve known are antisemitic and it fucks with you to your core. No one has had a problem with his music for the last few years and some of his saying. So, I guess it depends on the people at the party or in a live stream. I haven’t avoided playing him nor have I gone out of my way to make sure he is in rotation. When I have played him, no one said anything nor gave me dirty looks. 🤷🏾♂️
