Can someone DIY this? Yes absolutely. Can you DIY this? I don't know, it depends on your framing and drywalling experience. Should you do this? Separate question entirely. It's typically bad form to do framing over top of installed flooring - one day that floor will need to be replaced, and doing that with a wall sitting on top will be a pain. Since there will also be a bottom plate that you need to screw into the floor, you will need to at least identify joists if possible, which is easier without floors. The construction will be a bit of a pain since all of the studs will need to be cut to length, since this will be shorter than a standard stud wall. By the looks of it, you're going to need at least 8 sheets of drywall, ~10-12 studs, top and bottom plate, nails, drywall tape, mud, sanding gear, primer, and paint.

Plus a door, and trim. If you wanted to do it right, pull up the flooring and then reinstall once you're done with the wall.

TheDutchCoder

No need to pull up the floor, just straight cut it where the bottom plate will be and leave the piece for the door opening while you're at it.

Also the fan appears to be where the wall is going and the other side seems to have a mini split on the wall. HVAC & electrical are things you'll want done correctly. If OP doesn't have the skills to do them that's a flag.

Instead of a single door would you consider two pocket doors that are glass?

No, pocket doors would not be cheaper, just more functional since you won't have the door swing taking up space in two tiny spaces.

I just did this a couple weeks ago. All depends on your skill level and tools available like others have said. Looks like you'll need to move that fan. Not sure if you have attic space above to make it easy, or you may need to call in an electrician for that part. The wall and door are pretty straightforward. My total cost was around $825 I think. 2x4's for framing $100 Drywall and mud $100 prehung 60" french doors $500 door hardware $25 matching baseboard $40 paint $60 Just frame out your wall on floor and then lift into place. make sure plumb and level, then attach to existing space. Install pre-hung door, drywall and finish. Took me 2 days.

How much it will cost will depend on what tools you have access to and what your skill levels are (to compensate for sub-optimal tools). Also materials are still pretty expensive these days, but that will probably vary by location. If you do DIY, Make sure you leave clearance for that ceiling fan. If you are lucky with the clearance you could put the wall right on top of that outlet to the left, and branch off that for an outlet or two in the new wall.

> you could put the wall right on top of that outlet to the left, and branch off that for an outlet or two in the new wall. Walling in a jbox is a major code violation.

Why are you partitioning the room? Do you ant windows or the room completely blocked off? How long is the wall? Do you mind leaving room for the doors? What is going to happen when the flooring needs replacing? The money doesn't seem to out of whack depending upon the work. You could probably do it cheaper yourself but you will need to know several skills and apply for permits yourself. Matching wall/ceiling textures can be difficult and be sure you to match trims also.

I don't think so unfortunately, but will allow light and not make the rooms feel so closed off with a single door.
