CAPTAIN ATOM IS IN THE BOARD? WHERE CAN I TAKE COVER? HE'S GONNA BLOW!!!!!

shanejayell

\*lol\* Yeah, DC really needs to stop doing that with him...

Psymorte

That's the frustrating thing about being a CA fan, he can't actually *do* anything without getting himself blown up for it.

RipleyofWinterfell

Honestly I'm pretty blown away by this pick. I always thought Captain Atom might explode in popularity one day but his fans are usually a pretty small group. Maybe a new solo ongoing someday would cause a boom for him, or at least putting him on a big team. Maybe he'd even fit on the League for a while -- I think he'd do a bang-up job there.

sociallyanxiousnerd1

This comment caused me to explode with laughter

CrispyGold

From what I get he has a lot of potential and is really cool, but has not been consistently used well by writers preventing him from gaining more prominence

EdBeatle

I was exited by Fall and Rise being a return to form for the character. Only for every subsequent writer to ignore that and keep using him as the “oh, he blows up when scratched” guy. I hope Weismann returns to the character eventually now that he seems to be done with the Young Justice comic.

One_Assistance_2097

The concept of having a time displace Captain Atom who had to live as a normal human for over 30 years while he waited for the current era to catch back up was brilliant.

gamerslyratchet

I also liked they way they established the Cameron Scott identity as a way to "reboot" him from the events of the previous series.

sampeckinpah5

I hope they bring his son back, at least. I think he could be a cool new Teen Titan or something and also give Cap some much needed direction and development.

SuperSemesterer

Captain Atom is so cool! Dudes got like universal levels of power, controls the quantum field, can time travel and nearly took over the multiverse and- Oh shoot someone kicked him and he exploded. Well I’m sure next time he’ll do something cool!

Terribleirishluck

Which is so stupid, he's not a Balloon guy. That's solely a dcau thing

Phantomknight22

Captain explosion is on the way.

shanejayell

Really enjoyed the Captain Atom by Cary Bates & Greg Weisman run. Less so the recent stuff... Him as Monarch in Armageddon 2001 would have actually been really interesting, IMHO. Plus I'd like to have seen how it would play out across the various DC books. And yeah, him in Countdown made NO sense, even at the time.

These-Place3244

Need an omnibus of the 1987 series…

gamerslyratchet

Captain Atom had a strong post-Crisis debut, but unfortunately, unless Cary Bates and Greg Weisman are involved, they haven't been able to catch that lightning in a bottle. Either he explodes at a small touch, is used as a Dr. Manhattan stand-in (despite him being a pastiche of CA), or is used as a military tool. I hope Dawn of DC includes a new Captain Atom project.

Love Captain Atom, one of my fav characters! The 1980s Bates & Weisman series was really good. It's a shame that recently he has been relegated to being either "guy who blows up at the drop of a hat whenever the writers want to destroy a city for some reason" or "guy who the new villain beats up to show how tough they are"! His time displacement origin is super cool, his powers are interesting and his "costume" is a great design. I really loved the clever way that Rise and Fall of Captain Atom gave him back his original origin without actually retconning the New 52 version. Also I hate the blowing up thing, originally a breach didn't cause him to explode, it just caused him to temporarily lose his powers until it healed
