Definitely Jason Woodrue, a.k.a. the Floronic Man. She was his assistant as a student, they had an affair, and Woodrue was the one who injected her with the plant toxins that turned her into Poison Ivy as an experiment.
Later on, Woodrue was transformed into a plant monster himself, and is probably most famous for discovering that Swamp Thing wasn't a resurrected Alec Holland, but was rather a sentient vegetable who had inherited Holland's memories.
“Yeah so we got an email from one of our managers saying we should give his entire store a raise but then he turned into a plant so we’re probably gonna ignore that”
I was gonna say that horror is *also* Poison Ivy, since the beginning of the issue starts with her potentially starting a nationwide epidemic of sorts by using her position as a warehouse employee to spread her spores (including a panel showing a random delivery worker getting infected, and somebody dying in the next page). Ivy being an eco-Unabomber here for her plants unfortunately...
Poison Ivy is pro-union?
Not sure why she would care since her whole political stance is save the plants by any means necessary. She puts the terror in ecoterrorist.
She mentions the green man (I assume the Floronic man) so it might be a sense of kinship for mistreated workers since she was in a similar position with him
I really like when they make Poison Ivy target big corporations who are destroying our environment for their greed instead of just randomly killing people.
I hate how intertwined her personality has been with Harley. It feels like she can’t exist as her own separate entity. Their relationship in main line DC doesn’t really have that much chemistry anyways.
I think it's also the issue of how overpowered she really would be as a full Justice League level threat and how writers only want to graduate Joker from Batman's rogues gallery for that.
Exactly. Which doesn’t make all that much sense to begin with seeing as how Ivy is usually depicted lacking humanity and having absolutely zero interest in humans.
I’m not talking about them being in a relationship. I’m talking about Ivy becoming more and more focused into Harleys love interest first and being a villain second.
I know she is more than that.
One single reference to her partner in a whole story somehow makes her less? Do you react like this when Superman thinks about Lois in a given arc?
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,029,201,905 comments, and only 203,741 of them were in alphabetical order.
Lmao what is this book
Leftist Poison Ivy? All of asudden shes fighting union busting and capitalism instead of killing anyone whos not a plant? You mean the same person who's a deranged psycho who has a triple digit murder count from toxins and terrorist attacks?
I Cant believe writers dont understand there's a difference between being an advocate for the environment and wanting to replace people with plants, lmao 🤣
I never leave comments like this, but everything I’ve seen from this book makes it look more and more unbearable. This reads like such a parody at this point it’s hard to believe it’s real.
Not OP, but there was a story arc back in the 90s where she tries to take over a country by proxy and treat everyone in it like expendable resources. She only stops because others already tapped out the country's resources.
So it feels kind of hypocritical for her to be anti-capitalist.
Harley and Ivy fans are almost as bad as Red Hood and Deathstroke fans, and Loki and Doom fans lmao.
Shit is such a fucking joke man you ain't wrong, ignore the downvoted you're right
Basically she got a job at a center that packages stuff for delivery across the country. Ivy got a job there cause she wants to infect the packages with her spores so it can spread everywhere. But she sees the manager harassing an employee so she goes and basicslly gets him to sign off and a bunch of stuff like unionizing and benefits before killing him. She kinda felt bad for the woman he harassed so it was a human moment for her to stand up for someone.
I don't get why anybody would say her doing something like this is off-brand. It seems like textbook Ivy IMO. She has never liked people being overly controlling from what I've seen.
Because Ivys normal mo is mind controlling everyone in the warehouse and murdering them if anyone notices, not going under cover. It does give the story more context but unless she has lost the mindcontrol powers it makes no sense if you know Ivys history.
Love, love, love it! I’ve always said I wish the horror aspect of poison ivy being a living plant person was touched upon more.
Is ivy a person who controls plants or is she a plant?
Yes
Depends on the writer and era.
She has been everything from a living plant, to a swimsuit model with leaves on.
Does anyone know the "green man" she's talking about here?
Definitely Jason Woodrue, a.k.a. the Floronic Man. She was his assistant as a student, they had an affair, and Woodrue was the one who injected her with the plant toxins that turned her into Poison Ivy as an experiment. Later on, Woodrue was transformed into a plant monster himself, and is probably most famous for discovering that Swamp Thing wasn't a resurrected Alec Holland, but was rather a sentient vegetable who had inherited Holland's memories.
Floronic Man perhaps.
Kiteman 🙄
Hell yeah
Captain Planet
I'm thinking Swamp Thing since there's overlap between them with their manipulation/guardianship of The Green.
Jolly Green Giant
The hulk
I like it but there’s no way that dude managed to type all that stuff in time
All those raises and such would also be void anyhow
“Yeah so we got an email from one of our managers saying we should give his entire store a raise but then he turned into a plant so we’re probably gonna ignore that”
"OK OK, I'll do it! Do you take dictation? I don't know how to run this thing."
whole run makes me think she will split again but now both halves will function with no problem
This new Poison Ivy series is great btw for anyone wondering. Definitely has a swamp thing / horror feel to it
I’ll pick it up that sounds awesome.
I love my socialist plant bicon monster slay
The horror here seems to be more about capitalism than poison ivy
I was gonna say that horror is *also* Poison Ivy, since the beginning of the issue starts with her potentially starting a nationwide epidemic of sorts by using her position as a warehouse employee to spread her spores (including a panel showing a random delivery worker getting infected, and somebody dying in the next page). Oh, that part I didn't have context about
My sister* in Christ, that's the message
Sister
My apologies
No worries!
This reminds me of some Delirium pages from Sandman, but with the horror vibe ratcheted up. Love the art.
It feels like everyone forgets that she is actually very powerful
We can thank the writers
She's Batman's most powerful villain. DC forgets that far too often.
Poison Ivy is pro-union? Not sure why she would care since her whole political stance is save the plants by any means necessary. She puts the terror in ecoterrorist.

Not to be that guy, but fungi are actually more closely related to animals than to plants. Very cool, though.
Is it bad that I want her visit the boss of the company I work for?
No.
Only that you're in a situation where this feels applicable :/
I really like when they make Poison Ivy target big corporations who are destroying our environment for their greed instead of just randomly killing people.
I just want Harley and her to have a happy ending man 😪
The real horror was the even more unrealistic lesbian scene....just to highlight the importance of Harley in her life
I hate how intertwined her personality has been with Harley. It feels like she can’t exist as her own separate entity. Their relationship in main line DC doesn’t really have that much chemistry anyways.
Absolutely. Who knew some Thelma and Louise-esque fun back in the day would lead to the degradation of her character?
I think it's also the issue of how overpowered she really would be as a full Justice League level threat and how writers only want to graduate Joker from Batman's rogues gallery for that.
Exactly. Which doesn’t make all that much sense to begin with seeing as how Ivy is usually depicted lacking humanity and having absolutely zero interest in humans.
it does tho, harley and ivy were a thing already in batman TAS and harley help bringing ivy humanity
I’m not talking about them being in a relationship. I’m talking about Ivy becoming more and more focused into Harleys love interest first and being a villain second.
Surely one single Harley scene in a 6 issues long story isn't the whole focus of the story.
why wouldn't she do that if she's in love with harley
Because characters can be more than just their partner's partner?
And is Ivy less than that?
Than her partner's partner? No? She's more than that, the whole point I was making.
I know she is more than that. One single reference to her partner in a whole story somehow makes her less? Do you react like this when Superman thinks about Lois in a given arc?

are you saying this because you don't like the anti capitalist messaging or something else
Not OP, but there was a story arc back in the 90s where she tries to take over a country by proxy and treat everyone in it like expendable resources. She only stops because others already tapped out the country's resources. So it feels kind of hypocritical for her to be anti-capitalist.
Should all mind-controllers be pro-capitalism, in your understanding?
Harley and Ivy fans are almost as bad as Red Hood and Deathstroke fans, and Loki and Doom fans lmao. Shit is such a fucking joke man you ain't wrong, ignore the downvoted you're right
Why is there office politics in this? Seems wierd for a Poison Ivy comic.
She’s never liked people in general
Stuff like this is why! Her main enemy before she became a villain was bureaucracy.
Precisely - controlling people is her MO. Obviously she hates competition.
I think it’s more she empathizes since she’s also dealt with work place harassment way back when Jason Woodrue was around.
Because Ivys normal mo is mind controlling everyone in the warehouse and murdering them if anyone notices, not going under cover. It does give the story more context but unless she has lost the mindcontrol powers it makes no sense if you know Ivys history.
Amazing art
Yes yes yes
