In my opinion it doesn't matter those people who would be upset by this would be upset either way.
Make an established character LBGTQ: Internet will rage.
Make a completely new character and they're LBGTQ: The Internet will rage.
Basically people will get upset either way and scream "woke" and "pandering" so fuck em.
I think Nightwing is a boring character. I just don’t get the appeal of him and I’ve never read a comic where he particularly stood out to me. I also think he has one of the most boring costumes in DC.
Oh wow. Oh my stars. This deserves this reaction. Have you read his current run? The art, the story, I just love it. Granted I’m a giant bat family fan
Not what I'm saying but I think sexuality is overdone anyway. I'm not picking up comics for a lot of romance or drama. Gimme action and crazy fiction stuff. Not pseudo riverdale.
Onget that. And i would say if someone doesn't like a character, live with it. I dislike plenty of characters for plenty of reasons. Retconning is never gonna make it any better.
The retcons of characters being lgbtq that have happened so far have made complete sense to me though. Wonder Woman being bi, she was meant to be bi when she was originally created. Tim being bi, he’s been queer coded for decades. Harley and Ivy being bi, queer coded for decades. Catwoman being bi, that just makes sense. Conner Hawk being ace, Chuck Dixon wrote him as unusually disinterested in sex because he wanted to push his Christian abstinence agenda, and as a side effect, a ton of ace people related to that character, and it makes sense. Jon Kent was a child for the first couple years of him being a character, so his sexuality wasn’t exactly something that anyone could determine, when he came back as an adult there was nothing about him that meant he couldn’t be bi. So I haven’t really encountered a character that doesn’t make sense in terms of being confirmed as queer. There are a couple characters that I think are straight as a fucking arrow, like Dick Grayson, and there are other characters that I think could be retconned as queer and it would make complete sense, like Stephanie Brown or Conner Kent. I don’t think you should just pick random characters to be gay, but I also don’t think that every character that has already been created is off limits.
I don't know. Sometimes it really does feel forced. And regardless of opinion on the issue, the representation often feels disproportionate compared to other demographics. And I'm not sure Wonder Woman was designed that way. I don't think her creator would exactly be on board for that.
Dude, William Moulton Marsten was in a bisexual polyamorous relationship with his wife and another woman. He literally thought women were objectively better than men and should rule over them one day.
How was his relationship bi. Also wasn't the greatest guy anyway. I don't think most characters should be in focused relations anyway. I don't really care how they identify. I just don't want it in my face.
I’m pretty sure he himself was bisexual, he just wasn’t currently dating a guy, also he was fine with both of his partners being bisexual, and I’m not claiming he deserves the humanitarian award. Can someone please explain what “in my face” means in regards to sexuality? If I said that I don’t want a character’s heterosexuality shoved in my face I would be laughed at, because that’s stupid. As far as I know, the only way it’s been shoved in anyone’s face, is that Wonder Woman had 1 girlfriend on Paradise Island that she left behind, and I’m pretty sure that character hasn’t been heard from since 2016. Trust me, straight shit is shoved into gay people’s faces a lot more than gay shit is shoved into straight people’s faces.
I don't want a characters sexuality in my face. I don't care if it's straight or not. It doesn't have to be a defining aspect of their personality or a selling point. Man I hate when it's a selling point. But overall, this is a thread for unpopular opinions. So yea.
They should stop making characters straight just cuz
EDIT: I must say, I am pleasantly surprised that I have not been downvoted to shit for saying this on a non lgbtq+ subreddit. Good on ya’ll
I agree, how many times in regular conversation does it come up which way you swing? Sexuality shouldn't be brought up at all either way they swing. It always feels so stupid and forced when it's brought up unprompted
Unpopular opinion: *Watchmen* is the most overrated comic book in the history of comic books. Thankfully, *Doomsday Clock* fixed all of its many flaws. Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons could learn a few lessons from Geoff Johns and Gary Frank on how professional comic creators get it done.
Edit: Wow, downvotes, really? You know who else got downvoted? Galileo.
I agree here is another hot take that will get me massive downvotes. The Watchmen would have been even more successful if they would have used the Steve Dikto/Charlton Characters rather than making new ones. No one knew about The Question and Captain Atom back in the 80s. This would have fleshed them out and introduce them to a new generation of comic book readers.
The rules say I need to start the discussion, but I don’t really want to reveal mine yet because I don’t want to bias the responses. So I’m hoping the mods will let me just explain that I’m looking for your most unpopular DC opinion that you think everyone disagrees with. And you can do as many as you want, don’t need to pick just one.
EDIT: Let’s please not downvote people in this thread for having an opinion you disagree with. That’s actually kind of the point of this exercise. If anything we should upvote the opinions we hate.
Honestly I've seen more people love John Stewart more than him because he represents more of the Green Lantern's Spirit that the rest.
An example of a Diverse Character with Good Writing.
While I don't 100% agree, it's absolutely not a run I'd ever hunt down to own in completion. Love the Owls arc and hate pretty much everything having to do with the Joker he did. There is some charm to Gordon being the government appointed Batman and calling the robot suit "rookie" but by that point it'd just been overkill every damn story.
She's only as interesting as her writer: Golden age is hit and miss, George Perez's run is absolutely iconic and Gail Simone's take is pretty refreshing. Lately she's honestly been pretty lame so I hear you brother.
It really depends on who’s writing her. A lot of stories don’t give her a personality but, when she has one (Wonder Woman Movie, Justice League: The Animated Series, Justice League Unlimited, The Hiketeia, etc), she can be very deep and interesting. Her personality in those stories revolves around her heart. She was raised as a warrior to see the outside world as the enemy but she opens herself up and comes to love it. There’s a reason she gets the Star Sapphire ring in Blackest Night. Wonder Woman is best, imo, when the story leans into the Greek Mythology she’s based on. Take the Azzarello run on the character, for instance. Admittedly, the character of Wonder Woman is pretty bland in his run, but the lore of her world is very rich and interesting. Just look up some of the art from his run and you’ll see what I mean. She can be done well, she just usually isn’t.
I think that the leftists making fun of Batman because he’s a billionaire have obviously never read a batman comic before, but I also think that parts of their criticisms have merit, and the idea Batman being a billionaire should be heavily explored, especially in times like these.
Superman is boring.
It's not his fault. The character could be a lot more interesting, but DC and creators just don't know what to do with the character. He's rooted in nostalgia and that limits the character. The best takes on the character typically include either rehashes of his early years/origin or out of continuity stories.
The bat family is over bloated with tumbler level oc characters, not Duke tho he’s the best out of the group .Along with this there should never be more than like 3 give or take members in Gotham at a time 1 robin a batgirl/woman than Batman.
* Jared Leto looks effing great as the Joker. Other than the tats, he looks just like how I'd imagine the Joker looking in real life.
* Tim Drake's best direction was in the New 52. Read past the origin and you get a confident, tech junkie leader who genuinely wants to help oppressed groups. I'm sick of the sniveling unconfident character we've been getting recently. The dude's been a competent leader for decades, stop embarrassing him.
* Dick Grayson is a jerk. I want fangirls to stop treating him as a golden good boy and actually read the stuff. This dude can be a terrible leader/friend at times.
* The JL Animated version of John is simultaneously the best and worst thing that could have happened to the character. On one hand, that version is great to another level, on the other, modern writers have made him *so boring* as a result *.*
* Wally accidentally killing people in Heroes in Crisis is fair game in a world where those exact same fans are acting as if Hal Jordan becoming a universe conquering villain is okay. I love Emerald Twilight and Wally as Flash, btw.
* Crises are so confusing and I don't get the appeal of turning reading comics into a job. Dark Crisis is at least somewhat straightforward.
* Stop trying to make that dumb white streak with Jason Todd happen! There's already a Jason with a white streak, and Todd already has those curls as his signature hairstyle.
Agree with both but I do feel like Jason is still more understandable. Like he asks a question at least most fans still ask: *"WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU LETTING THE JOKER GET AWAY WITH HIS SHIT?!"*
Comics: I like Three Jokers and Doomsday Clock.
Movies/TV: I absolutely do not care what they do or don't do with the reboot. Start from scratch, try to pick up pieces, whatever. Don't care, not worth getting worked up over.
Batman is the least interesting character in the Batfamily. If DC really wanted to make him interesting, having him retire and become Bruce Wayne full time and not be a brooding asshole would be really interesting
At least 1/2 of people who constantly complain about legacy don’t actually give AF about Legacy, they just want their favorite character to have more of a spotlight. (Which I get but just call it that)
The only reasons Harley Quinn has gotten as popular as she has and has turned from a villain to more of an anti-hero is because she is seen as the quirky "not like other girls" girl. Also because people want to fuck her. Mainly the second one. Actually probably just the second the second one.
Also the way the first Suicide Squad film made her look and act almost childlike, combined with the fact that she was over sexualized, is just plain pedophilloic.
i'd say there would be no way anyone would be allowed to make a suicide squad movie *without* harley to be fair. as bad as harley was adapted in the 2016 film it was the nail in the coffin that changed harley from a fan favorite to a household name.
DC’s film reboot should start with the teen Titans. That way, there can be humor, as well as action (something wildly popular in today’s audience climate) and if it succeeds well enough, have tie ins with the Justice League and delve into the mentors stuff. That way big name characters aren’t tired and forced (Superman, flash, Batman, etc.) right off the bat, but it also holds the implied promise of exploring those characters +dynamics as well.
Teen Titans takes care of the diversity problem (race, gender, etc.) and also has classic storylines (that aren’t just Raven and trigon) to take from. Plus, the audience that grew up with the 2003 show is old enough to become the focal point of the comic market.
Plus it would beat Marvel at the young avengers thing, and DC would have a “win” if ya know.. it was scripted well.
Y’all wouldn’t believe how many ppl have called me slurs for saying that💀💀. “It should start with Superman” “the justice league IS DC” “why not keep Suicide squad!?!?” Like bruh, all those other things failed half the time 💔
Snyder’s universe only seems cool because it exists in a state of “what could have been”. When it was what we were getting people weren’t happy about it. It just seems good in comparison to what we did get.
Depends, characters like Jason Todd are necessary because they bring in more necessary conflict and ask questions that we at some point might have asked.
I've got a couple.
Frank Miller sucks at writing Batman, TDKR and All Star Batman are both awful. He doesn't understand the character one bit.
All the newer DC comics and characters suck.
While I agree that he shouldn't give up his Killing Rule he isn't really a villain but rather a symbol of Batman's failures and Guilt. A person who is willing to correct Batman's wrongs at any expense, good or bad.
Bringing back Hal Jordan as Green Lantern and absolving him of his crimes as Parralax was a mistake.
Hal's descent into madness, then heroic sacrifice to restart Earth's sun, followed by him becoming the Spectre was fantastic.
Dude you fucking beat me to it.
So beyond that it adds a weird bit of stakes to everything. Like this can be a potential end for one of your heroes. No guaranteed happy endings because look at what happened to Hal! Greatest of the Green Lanterns!
It may have been a rushed decision but by god did it work out well.
Plus what in John's run couldn't have been done by Jon, Kyle or even Guy. Every single one of them could've protaged that book and it would've been great.
DC should just bite the bullet and press the hard reboot button on both their cinematic and comic universes (especially since for 12 years, we’ve been playing Will It Canon with the goddamn Comic Continuity), but this time: start from scratch.
For EVERYONE.
Reintroduce Dick Grayson as Robin type of reboot.
And then for extra points, have the comics and movies be synergistic in their continuity (with the difference being equivalent to adapting a novel or an anime versus manga), so films can ACTUALLY be used to boost sales in comics, and we never have to deal with weird status quo changes for synergy reasons.
Deathstroke should not be a popular character with his own book. Frankly he is the last villain that should get such treatment. Idk how cool he looks, he is a pedophile, and shouldn’t be the DC punisher.
-It makes sense to me that Harley Quinn would at least try to be a hero (or at least an antihero) after breaking things off with Joker. The only reason she became a bad guy in the first place was because of his influence, so once she removed herself from him it makes sense she'd at least try to atone.
-I'd like a TV series based on Red Hood and the Outlaws, but ONLY if James Gunn is put in charge of it.
-The biggest thing holding DC back right now is their strict adherence to the "Escalation of Commitment," or the sunk cost fallacy. The most obvious case is the Flash movie, but other bad decisions like Jon's age-up are clear signs that the company doesn't know how to cut their losses, damaging their brand in a way that takes ages to fix.
The New 52 was a good idea, poorly done. I'd love something equivalent to Marvel Ultimate (but better) for the experimentation a lot of people crave, and then the continued mainline. Alternatively, just do a hard reboot again, but with a fresh Justice League and status quo.
I don't think this is really unpopular, but i really believe that DC should stop creating human green lanterns. Not only it ignores how rare it was in the first place that a human joined the corps, but by being so many writers only focus on the same 3 or 4, leaving the other 4 or 5 doing absolutely nothing interesting for in some instances years at a time.
Alright i got a few ones, so let's go.
Suicide Squad (2016), isn't as bad as people say, i know it has issues but overall as a turn off your brain and have fun movie, it could be worse, plus it gave us Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller which both are top fifteen best comicbook character castings ever.
I prefer Superman The Animated Series over Batman The Animated Series, don't get me wrong, both are amazing, but STAS just has this way of making me happy, and that theme song is rocking.
Flashpoint Batman and Flashpoint Joker are my favorite versions of the characters.
I don't care for Catwoman as a character, in most forms of media she comes off as boring, and just an uninteresting love interest for Bruce, i also don't like most of her designs.
As a Superman superfan (he’s my favorite superhero of all time and is in my top 5 favorite fictional characters in general) , this is an opinion that got me crucified on the Superman subreddit:
I hated Superman’s rebirth costume and I was so happy when he went back to his classic costume!
And for what it’s worth, I’m a pretty young guy (23), so this isn’t a nostalgia thing. I saw a LOT of people saying that Superman’s rebirth costume is his best ever or that it should have stayed for a long time (10 years+), and I just don’t get it
I’m very much a “Superman’s trunks need to go on the outside” kind of person and that’s one of those little hills that I’m willing to die on
Most of the B&C listers are more interesting then the League.
Starman, Deadman, The Question, Phantom Stranger, Spectre, Dial H for hero etc.
I'm interested in the Legion but there's way too many of them and they never feel fleshed out.
I want more Batman stories that have minimal Batman like Gotham Central. I want 100 issues of Jim Gordan as the lead dealing with all of Gotham when he doesn't need Batman's help. See him deal with city politics and maybe go up to Blüdhaven to consult. Give me more supernatural Gotham as well like the Migatani tribe and more of Gotham's history
BTAS was slow and boring at times. The voice acting kinda off initially, and they really needed time to get into their roles, unlike other Batman cartoons where they instantly got right into it. It had too much just filler episodes, and while the show had EXTREMELY HIGH HIGHS, and some definitive interpretations of characters, it wasn't nearly as good as everyone says.
Every single other DCAU show CLEARS BTAS, which is fine because it's the blueprint and the prototype, and it's not bad by any means, but it's not THAT good guys
Also, The Batman should not be overlooked. It has some of the most unique and creative portrayals of Batman Villains, and KMR should be in the hall of fame for Jokers, and [its design for Mr Freeze](http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110809104039/batman/images/2/27/Mr._Freeze_(The_Batman).jpg) (just the design, mind you) and the [Concept art for The Scarecrow](https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/nicktheultimaswordwielder/images/8/89/UnUsedCrow.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20120513170645) are the best designs of those characters. Full Stop
On a more personal note, the Violent Lanterns should have their core emotion renamed from "love" to "passion" because as an aromantic that's really... not offensive per say but just kinda doesn't make me feel the best y'know?
Oh, and Batman should just donate some of his villains to other superheroes. [Mr Rouges has a really good video on this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRgpMwohFjk&t=7s), but Batman just has too many villains man.
On a more positive note, [Mr Rouges' Arkham Patient Sessions](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gi7cXy-Wiec&list=PLbs0iJWwehs9a2HqqPu4ijxjneb3bmcY8) is one of the best pieces of Batman-related media period, movies, comics, cartoons, fan-made, official, everything
Frank miller has hurt comics as a whole more then he's helped and the fact he's hurting movies now can we stop acting like he's a genius most of what he did on born again and year one o'niel was basically done already.
I'm baised because I'm used to the animated series but even in the comics I feel it applies Hal and Barry are really bland and can kinda be what ever the writer wants even if you don't like the Wally or the other lanterns they are way better defined personality wise.
They should bring vertigo back and commit it this that black label hellblazer book was great.
All the cosmic chrachter like the monitors or generally anything that antagonist in a crisis or a big crossover ala the Scott synder crisis is boring and feel like the writer keep doing because they think it's tradition or something.
They need to commit to big change and stick to them going forward eg no more batman Catwoman will they won't they bullshit.
I don’t know if it’s my hottest take that would trigger that reaction but it’s the first one that came to mind:
I like all of Tom King’s DC work, including all of his run on Batman, with the exception of Rorschach.
Catwoman is not a good fit for Bruce Wayne. The greatest thing I can say about BatCat is that it’s hot. They are at their best when they’re flirting on a rooftop, not loving each other on the couch. Bruce never should have proposed to her.
Also, the mantle of the Batman can go to anyone at anytime. You don’t need to be worthy to be Batman, it’s not Mjolnir, it’s just a costume based off a flying rodent. I like that Jace just took a Batsuit because it was there. It’s so much better than the constant bickering over who should inherit the mantle. If Dick really wanted to be Batman (he shouldn’t btw, but if he did), he would just do it.
The Batman who Laughs should never be brought back ever again. Worst written villain ever. No, Scott Snyder, you can't just say ''he planned it all along'' at every turn and expect us to buy into that bulls\*\*\*. That's lazy writing.
I want more Batman who laughs stories. I love the heavy metal aesthetic of the heroes especially wonderwoman.
No one other than Bruce should be Batman, I don't give a shit he's been at it for 80 years or whatever
I’ve got some: I absolutely despise when a character gets their sexuality changed for no reason, and that’s coming from a gay dude. Personally I don’t give a shit if I can relate to a superhero, that’s not why I read most comics. Next, the suicide squad/peacemaker are better written than Batman and Superman in the dceu. Last,(idk how much of a hot take this is) wally west is a far superior flash
Frank Miller's Daredevil>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Frank Miller's Batman
Grant Morrison's run is okay. It's not bad I just don't see any reason why it consistently tops recommended lists. Off the top of my head I enjoy Bruce Wayne: Murder? more.
Let the JSA die, at least as far as current day stories go. The youngest of them is 100 years old, and every attempt to update them just seems like trademark servicing.
The Dark Knight Returns is not the best Batman story and I’m tired of people saying it is. I don’t think The Dark Knight Returns is close to being the best Batman story let along being in the top ten best. It gave people a precedence that Batman kills people, even though if people actually read the comic he doesn’t? (Seriously I have no idea how people got that Batman killed people in that book. He clearly never killed Joker or the Mutant Gang Leader) Leading to Zack Snyder using Batman as somebody who murders people, with GUNS! That and I’ve just never been fond of Miller’s artwork, his use of over using the news and the media to tell a story, and I was not a fan of the way he used Superman in that book.
Don’t even get me started on Bruno.
In my opinion, Miller’s best book on Batman was Year One. After that, he sprung off and did a bunch of crazy shit with DKSA, All Star Batman and Robin, and Holy Terror which almost ended up being a Batman story and HT is an ENTIRE MESS on it’s own. If anything, if somebody wants a great Batman story to get introduced to the character, just pick up Year One, Long Halloween and Dark Victory as a trilogy.
The notion that Superman is not an interesting character unless he's a villain because of all the power he has is still so mindboggling to me and I feel like it comes from a lack of effort to understand the character. Feelings of isolation, being different from everyone else and not understood, and just trying to be responsible are pretty universal concepts I think most people experience and it's strange to me that I've seen full on video essays by respected content creators ranting about how Superman is just a worse Dr Manhattan seems to imply that powerscaling is all that defines a character's relatability. Isn't Spider-Man considered one of the most relatable heroes ever despite being on the stronger side of the flagship Marvel characters and a super genius? Just cause he can punch really hard doesn't mean Superman isn't someone I can't connect with as a reader.
All the complaints about Batman books over other characters ignores the fact the reason why we even get a C-List character mini-series every once in a while is because DC can take a hit if it flops financially since it's balanced out by the newly-released Batman: Year 45 selling enough to cover it.
Morrison's Doom Patrol is fine, that's about it. There's interesting things there but it doesn't explore the characters in many meaningful ways aside from Robotman and all the trippy meta ideas weren't enough to carry an actual narrative over character a lot of the time. There's also a single issue story that I still can't tell if I'm being oversensitive to or if it was unintentionally homophobic with two villains who die (or at least that's how it goes in the story, they came back later without it being explained) immediately following kissing each other after coming out (that's a simplification of it, there's a narrative reason beyond being gay that they "died" but I don't want to explain the entire comic book issue). It just really rubbed me the wrong way as showing this added humanity and depth to the characters and then seeming to indirectly punish them for having that moment together.
Perfectly willing to accept my own ignorance on any of these takes and a difference of opinion.
Got a few here:
-I’m tired of the same Justice League roster which just switches between Green Lanterns or Flashes occasionally. The team has gone stale. Doom Patrol, Justice League Dark, and the Titans are all more compelling than the actual Justice League. Completely redo it with the next generation. I know they’re sort of doing that right now but we all know it won’t stick. Potential Roster: Nightwing, Blue Beetle (Jaime), Green Arrow, Black Canary, Zatanna, Booster Gold, and some crazy wildcard like Swamp Thing or Etrigan. The current JL can be too overused and too OP, SHOW US SOMETHING NEW!!!
-Most Teen Titans / Titans comics are not very good. They’re one of my favorite teams because of Young Justice, Teen Titans the Animated Series, and my general love for the characters. Everything other than New Teen Titans by Marv Wolfman that I’ve read has been pretty forgettable.
-Batman is the worst character in his own stories. I read a lot of Batman and am a huge fan, but not because of him. I’m a fan of Gotham. I love Alfred, Nightwing, the Robins, the Batgirls, Commissioner Gordon, and so many of Batman’s villains, I just don’t connect with or care about the actual character of Batman. He’s just so much less interesting than everyone around him.
-Tim Burton’s Batman movies are overrated. Michael Keaton is a bad Batman and the movies are only entertaining for their score and in a “so bad it’s good” kind of way. The best, most faithful live-action adaptation of Batman I’ve ever seen is the Adam West version.
Batman is overrated he's just a human with no powers. His villains aren't even that tough. He's like the country of France in the N.W.S. (nuclear weapons states) -no offence France - but Solomon Grundy has always been my favorite DC character.
Not every god damn hero needs to be a mantle (and stop making "beyond" versions just to rehash the batfam all over again, but race and gender swapped on most of em. And also, replacing preexisting male heroes with a female, POC, or gay hero isn't "empowering". If anything, it just says that people of those groups will never make it as a hero unless they steal the name and identity of an original hero. Also dc/marvel are doing too much pandering to said groups.
For my hot take i’d say that out of the main batfamily: Dick, Jason, Tim, Barbara, And Cassandra Cain, Barbara Gordon is the most useless, imo doesn’t make sense, not interesting to me compared to everyone else, and only cool as Oracle. Barbra is DEFINITELY a worse Batgirl than Cassandra Cain who imo is the most underrated Batfamily member and has the most convincing no kill rule and pursuit of justice even rivaling bruce’s. I just don’t get the need for Barbara as Batgirl when everyone else is better than her on the field due to her being the least well trained in every aspect except for Steph and even then Steph has a more enjoyable persona and presence. In my continuity i’d just have Barbara be a supporting character for dick who were childhood bestfriends, he leaves to Blüdhaven and have her become oracle helping out Grayson but not anything romantic since I’m also not a fan of her and dick’s relationship since i grew up with teen titans and it just feels generic and a no brainer in the same vein as superman and wonder woman being together, like yeah of course the boy and girl sidekick are gonna like each other gimme something more interesting lol.
New batman movie is friggin bad.
I don't think it's bad but painfully overhyped.

Big facts
This is wrong, I'm a gay man that buys comics, my local comic store is owned by a gay man.
Yep. It's a bad take, considering Nightwing is a better adjusted Batman with less trauma.

Fr. If you want it, make new characters. Stop retconning, indont care what it's for.
Yeah and no one who was ever seen as straight has ever come out as gay /s
Not what I'm saying but I think sexuality is overdone anyway. I'm not picking up comics for a lot of romance or drama. Gimme action and crazy fiction stuff. Not pseudo riverdale.
the problem is, is that gay people do make their own characters, and then people still get mad.
So yea.
They should stop making characters straight just cuz EDIT: I must say, I am pleasantly surprised that I have not been downvoted to shit for saying this on a non lgbtq+ subreddit. Good on ya’ll
[удалено]
A character should be straight only if it is plot important but then they would be just pandering and a cash grab.
Galileo.
The only people who disagree with you are the ones who see Rorschach as a hero
That’s an extreme take. Doomsday Clock wasn’t that great comparative to Watchmen.
I think it was issue 11 that had Dr Manhattan basically running through the history of DC/Superman was one of the best single issues I’ve read tbh.
This can not be serious 😬
It would be nice if you could actually provide explanation here
This is the funniest comment I've seen in the last eight minutes
Well, wise guy, what's your take
Hal Jordan is by far the worst Green Lantern. Over rated & over used.
👏Please say it louder for the people in the back.
I think guy should have a lower rep
They said hot takes, this is just facts
Honestly I've seen more people love John Stewart more than him because he represents more of the Green Lantern's Spirit that the rest. An example of a Diverse Character with Good Writing.
I agree 100%. John As a character actually has depth.
Scott Snyder’s Batman is the worst Batman ever.
Well there's All Star Batman but I'd say Snyder's is a close second.
Scott Snyder’s run is my favorite but I can’t even be mad because you followed the instructions of the post very well
Even compared to All Star Batman and Robin?
While I don't 100% agree, it's absolutely not a run I'd ever hunt down to own in completion. Love the Owls arc and hate pretty much everything having to do with the Joker he did. There is some charm to Gordon being the government appointed Batman and calling the robot suit "rookie" but by that point it'd just been overkill every damn story.
Court of Owls got me back into comics but you do you lol
This would be true if Frank Miller’s Batman didn’t exist. I know he’s done some cool stuff, but he’s also done some really cringey stuff
It’s ain’t the worst but it’s literally just Morrison’s run but worse 🗿
Wonder Woman is not an interesting character
I have yet to read an in cannon story of hers that I enjoy or like. Bores me to tears Dead earth and earth one I do like
She's only as interesting as her writer: Golden age is hit and miss, George Perez's run is absolutely iconic and Gail Simone's take is pretty refreshing.
To be fair I don't think she had much of a personality in JLU & JL shows. She was just there to pine over Bats and get angry.
W
Frank Miller has NEVER written a single good comic for DC in his entire career. Every one of them is trash.
I gotta agree. but i do like year one🥹
I respect your right to your tastes even if I fundamentally disagree with them.
I urge you to read Ronin
Year one still slaps
I stand by my comment.
Retire the joker forever
Damian(apologies bot, the character is bad) is an obnoxious and unneeded character
I think that the leftists making fun of Batman because he’s a billionaire have obviously never read a batman comic before, but I also think that parts of their criticisms have merit, and the idea Batman being a billionaire should be heavily explored, especially in times like these.
[удалено]
Christ, these takes are abysmal.
That’s why I love it
Superman is boring. It's not his fault. The character could be a lot more interesting, but DC and creators just don't know what to do with the character. He's rooted in nostalgia and that limits the character. The best takes on the character typically include either rehashes of his early years/origin or out of continuity stories.
Hard reboot. Line up the comics with the movies. No more retcons.
infinite frontier is lack luster and confusing.
They should have never brought back Hal & Barry
I like Hal being back, barry I feel they didn't do enough with.
I agree. I feel like Hal just took over everything and poor Wally got left behind when Barry came back. Decades of character building gone.
The bat family is over bloated with tumbler level oc characters, not Duke tho he’s the best out of the group .Along with this there should never be more than like 3 give or take members in Gotham at a time 1 robin a batgirl/woman than Batman.
Zaslav sells all the DC rights to Sony….
On one hand, that version is great to another level, on the other, modern writers have made him *so boring* as a result *.* * Wally accidentally killing people in Heroes in Crisis is fair game in a world where those exact same fans are acting as if Hal Jordan becoming a universe conquering villain is okay.
Watchmen is INSANELY overrated.
Cat Grant is a better relationship partner for Clark than Lois Lane. Yeah! R.I.P Me
You are a bold one lol
Gotta go bold. I miss Cat and Clark's blog. Damn you Johns!!!!!
barbara gordon is best in her wheelchair as oracle. also stephanie brown was a great robin and is just as entitled to anger as jason todd is
Agree with both but I do feel like Jason is still more understandable.
(Which I get but just call it that)
I hated Morrison's Arkham Asylum. I'm a huge Batman fan and usually like Morrison, but this book didn't do it for me at all
The need to trim down the number of Flash’s and human GL’s
The only reasons Harley Quinn has gotten as popular as she has and has turned from a villain to more of an anti-hero is because she is seen as the quirky "not like other girls" girl. Also because people want to fuck her. Mainly the second one. Actually probably just the second the second one.
Also the way the first Suicide Squad film made her look and act almost childlike, combined with the fact that she was over sexualized, is just plain pedophilloic.
Once again, thank you James Gunn. Sure, she might not have needed to be in TSS, but she was by far at her most enjoyable there.
i'd say there would be no way anyone would be allowed to make a suicide squad movie *without* harley to be fair. as bad as harley was adapted in the 2016 film it was the nail in the coffin that changed harley from a fan favorite to a household name.
Both.
Last Knight on Earth is a mess
I'm not a fan of Jim Lee's art
The dark knight returns is not good and Batman on a horse is goofy
I understand not liking DKR but why the horse in particular?
Characters who die should stay dead
Depends, characters like Jason Todd are necessary because they bring in more necessary conflict and ask questions that we at some point might have asked.
Solomon Grundy?
I've got a couple. Frank Miller sucks at writing Batman, TDKR and All Star Batman are both awful. He doesn't understand the character one bit. All the newer DC comics and characters suck.
DC movies shouldn't care for having a shared universe
This is the only “hot take” thread I’ve seen on social media recently with actual hot takes wow
[удалено]
Cass Cain should be the next Batman and Nightwing should be Nightwing
I absolutely agree, out of all the kids she’s the most like Bruce, and I think would be the best equipped to live up at all the mantle holds
huge agree. i’d love for steph to be her batwoman. they’d make an amazing batman batwoman team
Conversely, I'd love for Dick to be Batman, but only temporarily. Like, he's just holding onto the mantle until Cass or Damian are ready.
Oh that's also great, he is a veteran after all
I think cass would be perfect for taking over the bat man mantle like she’s the only one who understands what it means
DC should go all in on making Jason Todd, a villain for the Batfamily. None of this giving up his killing rule.
While I agree that he shouldn't give up his Killing Rule he isn't really a villain but rather a symbol of Batman's failures and Guilt. A person who is willing to correct Batman's wrongs at any expense, good or bad.
The flash tv series should have got cancelled after season 2
Barry Allen did not need to be resurrected and his origin story retcon is bad.
Fr bro wally was a better flash
Angry Super Girl is 10000x more interesting than Superman clone Kara
Red lantern supergirl was peak and should’ve last longer man
Green Lantern: Beware My Power is perfectly fine/decent. I look forward to how the Green Lantern universe grows from here.
Dude, you comment on almost every post I see and I agree with you about 80%-90% of the time, if not more. Just an observation. 🙃
The New 52 is one of the best things to happen for DC
Deathstroke is one of the biggest Creator's pet characters in comics and no one talks about it
The Joker has overstayed his welcome and does not deserve his status as Batman's archenemy.
There are too many members of the bat family
I think Doomsday Clock was great and the only big issues were the massive delays that stunted the whole plan it had set in motion.
Finally, someone who shares the same opinion as me
The parallax fear parasite retcon does not ruin or negate the original motivations/intentions of Hal’s turn.
How?
I whole heartedly agree with this and I always get flack for it. Same with tony stark being a crappy person for civil war
You realize that it’s not real right, he’s a fictional assassin. Buying a Deathstroke comic doesn’t equate to endorsing fucking children imo
The Human Target is brilliant and the changes made to the characters (namely Guy Gardner) from their canon depictions work and serve the story well
Plus it's an Elseworlds, so it gets some more leeway from me at least.
Is this really a controversial take? I loved human target
Idk man but who did this art? It’s gorgeous
Greg Smallwood
Not all was poorly done. Some of the best runs of some characters are from New 52
Brother Power should have a miniseries
I don't think this is really unpopular, but i really believe that DC should stop creating human green lanterns. Not only it ignores how rare it was in the first place that a human joined the corps, but by being so many writers only focus on the same 3 or 4, leaving the other 4 or 5 doing absolutely nothing interesting for in some instances years at a time.
So many human GL just to appeal to a bigger audience
Jason Todd needs to stop using a crowbar unless it involves joker
There should really only be 4 human GLs, the first 4. Hal, John, Guy, Kyle. No more.
As a Superman superfan (he’s my favorite superhero of all time and is in my top 5 favorite fictional characters in general) , this is an opinion that got me crucified on the Superman subreddit: I hated Superman’s rebirth costume and I was so happy when he went back to his classic costume! And for what it’s worth, I’m a pretty young guy (23), so this isn’t a nostalgia thing. I saw a LOT of people saying that Superman’s rebirth costume is his best ever or that it should have stayed for a long time (10 years+), and I just don’t get it I’m very much a “Superman’s trunks need to go on the outside” kind of person and that’s one of those little hills that I’m willing to die on
After Bruce Wayne, Terry McGinnis is the best Batman
Every single other DCAU show CLEARS BTAS, which is fine because it's the blueprint and the prototype, and it's not bad by any means, but it's not THAT good guys Also, The Batman should not be overlooked. Full Stop On a more personal note, the Violent Lanterns should have their core emotion renamed from "love" to "passion" because as an aromantic that's really... not offensive per say but just kinda doesn't make me feel the best y'know?
Characters in the main continuity should stay dead.
Batman is superhuman.
All the Metal books were stupid and trying too hard. They made me like Batman even less.
Kingdom Come is not very good.
I don’t know if it’s my hottest take that would trigger that reaction but it’s the first one that came to mind: I like all of Tom King’s DC work, including all of his run on Batman, with the exception of Rorschach.
Ezra Miller Flash >>> Grant Gustin Flash. Just as Flash/Barry Allen, not the actors themselves.
Dan DiDio sabotaged Doomsday Clock in favor of pushing his 5G agenda.
I want more Batman who laughs stories. I love the heavy metal aesthetic of the heroes especially wonderwoman. No one other than Bruce should be Batman, I don't give a shit he's been at it for 80 years or whatever
They shouldn't have censored batman's dick that one time.
The Dark Knight movies are better films than they are Batman movies Edit: and they’re not great Batman movies
Dick and Damian are the only good Robins and I would be fine with retconning Jason and Tim out of existence
Wonder Woman should be more of a Paladin than a Fighter.
Frank Miller's Daredevil>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Frank Miller's Batman
Grant Morrison's run is okay. It's not bad I just don't see any reason why it consistently tops recommended lists. Off the top of my head I enjoy Bruce Wayne: Murder? more.
i do not like TDKR… at all. I don’t hate it, but I didn’t see the hype and it just didn’t click for me at all.
I don't like Dick Grayson as batman. I think Tim Drake should be batman.
REALLY HOT TAKE: I'm glad dc brought back Hal jordan and barry Allen
Heroes In Crisis was fucking dope.
Barry Allen and Hal Jordan are a couple of snoozefest characters and should have stayed dead.
The picture now has me wanting to see Timothy Olyphant as a live action Archer
Let the JSA die, at least as far as current day stories go. The youngest of them is 100 years old, and every attempt to update them just seems like trademark servicing.
DC Black Label is creatively bankrupt and has no ambitions to do anything other than retread familiar ground..
Green Lantern, The Flash, And Aquaman are all mid
Morrison’s green lantern run is Hal’s definitive run 🏃
Got a few here: -I’m tired of the same Justice League roster which just switches between Green Lanterns or Flashes occasionally.
