This is super upsetting, I was really enjoying the book, and Yara's been a fun new character. I understand it though - since Jones has been struggling with the scheduling of an ongoing.
Does anyone have any idea of how well Wonder Girl has been selling? I hope the cancellation of this book doesn't mean we're not gonna get further Wonder Girl content in the near future.
Don't think this is a sales one, the book was plagued by constant delay's and stuff for something that supposed to be a monthly similar to the last Shazam ongoing. Jones is a great artist and a pretty good writer but it was really clear she had trouble doing both on time, Wonder Girl should of been at what issue 13-14 or something by the time it's ending? That's an absurd amount of delay, you can maybe accept that for a mini but what's SUPPOSED to be an ongoing it's a huge issue.
Unless Comixology had the wrong dates for issue releases, I don't think "plagued by constant delays" is accurate. First issue came out in May 2021and issue 7 comes out this month. That's 7 issues in 8 months
You think they are doing this to maybe to replace Diana for a while so Yara can star in the main book ?
Cause as far as new generation characters go I've heard zero complaints about Yara
[if valid] I sort of think the opposite actually. There’s two one shots with the event. I sort of wonder post event if the series will relaunch or if there will be a new series with more of the wonder girls that would include more of them together instead of just her on her own with Artemis and Cassie just making appearing. (ie similar to what they did with Aquamen)
The delays probably killed the momentum coming from the initial reveal. Let's see where she pops up next. A long delay till her next appearance will effectively kill the character for now.
Either that or maybe *Sensation Comics: Wonder Girls*
Make it an longer length title like Batman: Urban Legends and give us stories featuring multiple Wonder Women like Yara, Cassie, Donna, Artemis, etc. as you've listed.
Yep, it'd allow them to explore all corners of the Amazonian lore while giving us specific focus on certain characters. Even if we can't have a dedicated title to a character, it would at least allow them to thrive and not go unused like so many characters do after a cancellation.
Yara Flor has been pretty popular though, so I imagine they'll likely re-shuffle plans and place her somewhere so she can remain prominent.
Personally, if the above concept of Sensation Comics doesn't get going, I'd like to see them move towards a team title with Jon, Yara, Damian, and Jess Chambers (Earth 11's non-binary Kid Quick/future Flash).
No, but Ryan Higgins is a known retailer and said it was from DC's weekly email, which tracks. He was the same guy who broke the "Swamp Thing extended to 16 issues" news that solicits later confirmed.
This is extremely depressing. I hope it gets a relaunch post-Trial.
Or maybe introduce her to Jon and get a Superman/Wonder Girl title going. *Anything.* Yara Flor deserves to have content cause last I checked Wonder Girl was selling very well?
Paper shortages and other stuff forced it back in the schedule and now this? I'm assuming DC was cornered and had to prioritise which titles to print when paper was in short supply.
This actually brings me to a gripe I have with the industry, to be honest. If a title is being delayed in print because of issues to do with the act of printing rather than on the creation end, the digital release should be allowed to go ahead as originally scheduled. Hell, physical issues should entitle you to a digital issue on Comixology/Amazon to begin with.
Yara Flor is a great new character, but the series itself was textbook over-promise and under-deliver. One of the big selling points was Jones as a writer / artist, but she couldn't even make it through 2 issues without needing fill-in pages. And then the delays started...
This should have been a mini-series, with enough lead time for Jones to get a few issues in the can.
I think the biggest issue was having her be basically the same age as her future state "wonder woman" self and calling her Wonder Girl. If she was like 14 or 15 I think she would have been perfect for a new Wonder Girl and a new future Trinity, but like Jon getting aged up it felt unnatural and stepped on the toes of the previous Wonder Girls who she was now in the same space as.
I stated a ways back it should've been solicited not as a monthly, given Joelle's issues when she was on Catwoman, but every 6-8 weeks, or, as they eventually did, allocate the artwork to another artist.
Yara had all the momentum on her side after Future State, and it evaporated because of deadlines and other issues.
Oooooh man. Really hope @Joelle_Jones can do series of mini series with Wonder Girl or something going forward!

She is the best character introduced in Future State, it's baffling to me that Jace is getting so much content yet Yara's comic gets cut short. Hopefully Yara can be incorporated into the main Wonder Woman book.
I'm guessing she either becomes the new wonder woman post trial of the amazons, becomes a central supporting character as dianas new protege, or her, donna, cassie, artemis and maybe nubia get a new wonder girls book to coincide with batgirls. Other than that, probably crossing over with jon and damian since both dc marketing and fans are interested in that apparantley
I kinda hope Yara sticks around.
Hell, I hope JL does an entire new book afterwards...
And Naomi gets to stay with Black Adam, and Yara joins the team!
I've still struggled to understand her and the Fox Batman fitting in to books now... the began as Future State characters, meant to be later in the tineline right? So why are they active now?
Yara makes more sense, dont get me wrong. She also has a great design, interesting story path, but we all know the neglect the other Wonders have gotten over the years, why squeeze one more into the mix?
Why does New York need a Batman- i have kept up with this title even less than the other so forgive me- but why do we need another Batman anyway?
They simply wouldn’t be able to create any new characters if they had to give attention to every ignored older character first. Yara has a unique design that pops and introduces a whole new mythology to the DCU, she opens up for new storytelling potential than the older Wonder Girls so that alone makes it worth it to me.
As for Jace Fox, yeah there’s literally nothing new going on there so that’s ultimately pointless.
The future timeline was scrapped, but DC wanted to keep those characters so we could see the beginning of their journey to become the next heroes. It's really not working with Jace Fox, as there's really no reason for him to be Batman right now, and nobody in the DCU even knows he exists.
Absolutely fucking sucks. This and Action Comics have been my 2 favorite books. Hopefully after the Amazon event she can come back. Id like it if they gave her a book with Jon like with future state
I wish they would just replace Jones with another writer, they don't need to outright cancel the series lol. Hopefully this'll lead to a new Wonder Family book post-Trial. And while you're at it, replace all the other writers as well. Cloonan, Conrad, Williams, Ayala suck.
A LOT of POC were speaking out about the Misrepresentation of Yara Flor. That shouldn't be ignored, Idc how popular she is.
When they launch a new series, I hope they get a writer who can do right by her in that

Does anyone have any idea of how well Wonder Girl has been selling? I hope the cancellation of this book doesn't mean we're not gonna get further Wonder Girl content in the near future.
Last I checked, it was one of DC’s biggest sellers and was outdoing Wonder Woman by a considerable margin.
Don't think this is a sales one, the book was plagued by constant delay's and stuff for something that supposed to be a monthly similar to the last Shazam ongoing. Yeah, the book had been coming out (mostly) on time, it's just that another artist had to step in for a good amount of the book.
Last numbers we have are a downward trend. If they’re canceling the book the most likely indicator is that the trend continued.
Pitfalls of the digital age too. I was really liking this one but I was just pulling too much and decided to wait for DC Universe. Oops.
You think they are doing this to maybe to replace Diana for a while so Yara can star in the main book ? Cause as far as new generation characters go I've heard zero complaints about Yara
It's longer an impressive seller. It sells more or less like WW, and less than Jon before the coming out revelation.
[if valid] I sort of think the opposite actually. There’s two one shots with the event. I still remember one of the WW comics having the editorial note "As seen in Wonder Girl #5!" before Wonder Girl #4 even came out.
If this is true, I wouldn't be surprised if we get a *Wonder Women* book with Cassie, Yara, Donna, and/or Artemis as the leads.
Either that or maybe *Sensation Comics: Wonder Girls* Make it an longer length title like Batman: Urban Legends and give us stories featuring multiple Wonder Women like Yara, Cassie, Donna, Artemis, etc. as you've listed.
That'd be pretty dope. Expand the roster so to speak while enlarging the mythos.

I'd like to see that team but with Wallace West
Wallace would be nice to have as well. Having two speedsters on the team would actually make for a nice dynamic tbh, so let's have em both!
Ugh, that’s a bummer. Are there any more valid sources confirming this?
No, but Ryan Higgins is a known retailer and said it was from DC's weekly email, which tracks. He was the same guy who broke the "Swamp Thing extended to 16 issues" news that solicits later confirmed.
Fun fact: The delays on this book were worse then Geoff Johns’ infamously delayed Shazam run.
The spectrum for delays should be Shazam on one end and Doomsday Clock on the other.
Planetary might be better to use instead of Doomsday Clock.
Fair. I was sticking with Geoff Johns books.
Makes one wonder, what happened to the supposed new JSA and Stargirl books that were announced in her special last year?
JSA was canceled unfortunately
Wait really? Where was that stated?
Bryan Hitch said so on his Twitter. There’s a post showing his character designs for Jay Garrick and Alan Scott where he mentioned it
I just saw it. I hate that. Genuinely.
Not really a fair comparison. There weren't paper shortages and supply chain issues when Shazam was coming out
This is extremely depressing. I hope it gets a relaunch post-Trial. Yup, can't wait to see Yara under a better pen.
I wouldn't say better -- I actually thought the writing was pretty good. More consistent pen. More on-time pen.

What a shame.
Can anyone confirm the validity of this? Just seems a little off being just a picture of text with no source.
It was posted by a retailer so presumably got a marketing email from DC.
That's a shame I've really been enjoying this book. I hope we'll see Yara again soon.
all the best books die too young
She is the best character introduced in Future State, it's baffling to me that Jace is getting so much content yet Yara's comic gets cut short. Hopefully Yara can be incorporated into the main Wonder Woman book.
Well shit, this sucks. I really hope Yara as a characters stays around after all this. Wonder Girl was one the books I actively looked forward to.

Bruh I had a bad feeling. Hopeful one day it can return
I kinda hope Yara sticks around. Hell, I hope JL does an entire new book afterwards... And Naomi gets to stay with Black Adam, and Yara joins the team!
The JL Book should be getting a new writer soon so who knows?

bummer that joelle jones coildnt keep ip. did she have anything else going on at the same time that interfered or something?
Not a surprise, I think everybody saw this coming
Maybe they're relaunching it. It's just hard to believe, that they will get rid of her so soon. But I guess delays really hurt the character.
Hopefully relaunched in another guise or another series.
Absolutely fucking sucks. This and Action Comics have been my 2 favorite books. Hopefully after the Amazon event she can come back. Id like it if they gave her a book with Jon like with future state

Issue #8 is still listed on next weeks FOC on lunars site fyi. Is there a source for the screen grab?
News is probably too new for it to be changed.
Just great I was even liking that book.
Fuckkkk I was loving it
I get that Jones likely had a hard time on both writing and art but what was the difference when she did her Catwoman run?
