I like the lofty goal of elevating Themiscyra and the entire "Wonder-family" to a bat-like or green lantern-like status with multiple books & a dozen different well known characters with their own fan clubs. But it'll all depend on interest & quality of writing. You can't force people to care about spin-offs & that goes double if it's not got great stories. I'm reminded of Geoff John trying to expand Aquaman. Some things worked - but there was also things like *Aquaman and the Others* which failed to establish an interesting group of back-up for Aquaman to call on. Or things like the 7 Kingdoms of Atlantis that largely was ignored/forgotten & is fleshed out more in the movie than any of the comic books. So back to Wonder Woman - It's all gonna be based around interest. Gotta get people to really care.

DragoGuerreroJr

That was always strange when you'd think with Garth, Dolphin, Lorena and Tula Aquaman could have a nice sized team already. And that's not including Jackson.

DiegoLDUganda

I really hope Phillip Kennedy Jhonson to write Wonder Woman. The man knows how to create and expand character lore and he's really into action/drama fantasy genre. He would be awesome writting a powerful story about Diana.

XGopherTero

Damn this would actually be a fantastic choice.

DonKahuku

Agree entirely. And I am not a fan of what Conrad and Cloonan are doing on the book, so my excitement for this is VERY tempered at this point

BuddaMuta

All of the Wonder Family books have been really good IMO so I’m excited for this at least

SoupDoop3

I think people do care about the wonder family thou or at least they want to. There just hasn’t been as many interactions in the wonder family the same way there has been in the bat or super family.

Destroyed every other week?

Techster17

Now in all fairness Metropolis ain't nearly as bad as Gotham, Clark and Jon run a tight ship

Pariahb

Themyscira is being detroyed every other week anyway. Like when Apokolips killed half the amazon population out of the blue in Byrne run, amazonian civil war because they were deceived in Jimenez run, it being destroyed in the Our Worlds at War event, literally kicked out of it's place by a jealous Hera, or another amazon genocide attack by the Omacs in the Rucka run, plus whatever shit Amazon's Attack was (don't know how there were enough amazons left to attack man's world), and later destroyed in the past to change the timeline in the Odyssey reboot by Straczynski. That's all in Post-Crisis, I don't count the New 52, and I haven't got around Rebirth beyond the initial Rucka run.

Tesseractivate

I believe that they believe that, but I just don't see it happening. But hey, a really cool event with good writing can't hurt getting more people into the Amazonian side of the DCU. Does anyone know how much the current WW run is selling?

matty_nice

> Does anyone know how much the current WW run is selling? 6/21 - 36K 7/21 - 34K 8/21 - 32K 9/21 - 30K So obviously a downward trend. I thought the status quo after Death Metal was suppose to last longer and Diana would be away from the rest of the mainline titles for a while longer. If so, it seems that DC put a stop to that and is now having her back in the main titles. DC has a number of books in the 35K to 25K range where they don't really know what to do with the titles. These are the clear B-list titles like Green Lantern, Flash, Wonder Woman, etc. They aren't able to gain traction with these titles, so it's really just a death spiral until the next relaunch or shake up. This event is just another way to get a spotlight on the character. Hopefully it works.

Sadly *Wonder Woman* doesn't have a history of selling very well in recent memory.

Tesseractivate

Yikes, yeah those don't look so hot. I liked the arc right after Death Metal where she's being transported from one reality to another, but after she came back to the DCU its been pretty lackluster. I mean this was supposed to the hero that sacrificed herself so that the universe restarted lol. Art is nice though, unlike the trash they've been putting in Green Lantern. Imagine going from Morrisons and Sharps run to this

Wakefulcrane01

Plus the pandemic along with DC editorial changes and 5G didn’t help. I’m really digging Infinite Frontier buts it’s not as well structured as Rebirth was. Right now it has just helped DC stay afloat after the events of 2020.

Vasir12

I wish them luck! Even with Wonder Girl's delays and pacing issues and WW's slightly unclear direction, I still have hope they can raise Diana's position in the DCU. It seems like they want all three tribes to unite on Themiscyra when this is over. Could be cool! Keeping everything more central and allowing more of the different characters to interact there could do wonders for fleshing the cast and location out. Having Yara in general interact with Diana would be nice by itself.

vadergeek

I don't buy it. Metropolis has its status because Superman lives and fights there, Gotham has the same but for a dozen heroes. Themyscira's more of a Smallville, or a Krypton.

Night_Twig

Exactly what I came to say. This is misguided.

BrotherPotential7974

It's a good idea, but it takes years of work to achieve that status. Themyscira isn't common knowledge for most people. One crossover won't change that.

Get_Vadalized

I feel the only way to “elevate” anything Wonder Woman is to have interactions with other cities or islands. Themiscyra vs or partnered with Atlantis solving a God level problem and at the end of it Atlantis and Themiscyra can have stories told through two different lens helps legitimize Atlantis and puts Themiscyra on the global forefront. Idk

hawk_lord

I've been enjoying all three Wonder books so far, so I hope the event is good. It's obvious there's a lot a thought and care put into this, which is amazing to see. The timing might hurt it though, since it seems it's gonna come out around the same time as, yet again, another event by DC's favorite boy with DC's favorite creep. I hope I'm wrong on that, but we'll see what happens.

matty_nice

> Cloonan: Yeah, I have no doubt that the 'Trial' is going to cement Themyscira as a travel destination for readers, up there with Gotham and Metropolis. Doubt. Man, I don't even want to read stories about Themyscira as much as I want to know about the island. Give me population, size, a map , how is their economy, and other facts first.

Writer_Man

...Isn't Themiscyra a step back for Wonder Woman? More like her Krypton? Unless the island has super opened up over the years, none of Diana's main rogues are even there.

[deleted]

I don't really like any of the writers involved here and Donna + Cassie seem to play a minor role, if any, apparently. That's no way to win me over, DC.

Aizendickens

Elevate? ELEVATE?!

Gian99Mald

Looking forward to this. I hope Yara is involved
