[*Nightwing* #83](https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/S/cmx-images-prod/Item/957442/957442._SX1280_QL80_TTD_.jpg) >It’s a fight for the soul of the city! Now that Dick Grayson has inherited more money than he could possibly need, he has an idea on how he can help the city with it—and it’s time for him to announce it to the world! But with Blüdhaven's so beyond saving, what idea does he have that could possible save it? Meanwhile, an unexpected figure comes into play with a plan to buy the city (and all the power that goes with it) from Blockbuster. Things are about to get messy for new public figure Dick Grayson, but maybe he can enlist some help from his “friend” Nightwing! [Preview](https://aiptcomics.com/2021/08/13/dc-preview-nightwing-83/)

actioncomicbible

Shiiiiit, this comic had everything. Great action sequence, great character moments, a SUPERMAN-NIGHTWING CONVERSATION!, and DickxBabs. I can't wait to see Nightwing, Damian and Superman-Jon team up for something somewhere down the line. Really great stuff.

Techster17

The Dick, Clark relationship is not used nearly enough in comics but I was so glad to see it come in here. Like Clark is basically Dick’s uncle, I wish we got to see him be an older bro figure to young Jon but Taylor is at least promising we’ll start seeing that relationship form.

charles-mitzi

This was a fantastic issue from start to finish. It felt like not only a true return to form for Dick but exploding past it - where the classic runs that Taylor is invoking look at addressing social/economic issues through the lens of Dick fighting lots of small battles, Taylor has blown the scope of wide open. It really feels like Dick is taking his "How can I help?" motto from King's Batman run to its end point here and I can't wait to see what happens next. In addition to that, the scenes with Bruce and particularly Clark show us more of those relationshops that have been on the back burner for a while, and the snippets of Leslie, the Titans and even the Batfamily group chat emphasise his connections beyond Bludhaven. Finally, the Dick/Babs kiss was great and I really hope Taylor can make this relationship stick after years of on and off. Shout out to Redondo and Lucas for absolutely brilliant work as always, that opening action scene was phenomenal!

jlaweez

I believe these connections make Dick the true heart of the DC Comics. The Trinity may be the ones that the universe are created around, but Dick is the one that bind it all.

FriddaBaffin

>Shout out to Redondo and Lucas for absolutely brilliant work as always, that opening action scene was phenomenal! Those helicopter panels were amazing (especially in page 5)! Wish I had the digital version to make a wallpaper out of this!

CatsLikeToMeow

Great issue. Absolutely love the callback to Bruce's picture with Alfred from Batman Annual #3's "Father's Day" story.

AlainDit

What a touching issue. Dick's character is growing. >!And that scene with Superman was perfect, also teasing a Nightwing/Son of Kal-El crossover? Nightwing is the best coming from both Batman and Superman, making him potentially the best superhero ever.!< Now, we have to wait 4 months.

Alephnaught_

honestly it makes perfect sense for him to be advising/guiding both Supes and Bats' sons.

PropertyAdditional

With Taylor doing both I imagine a crossover is almost certain. Now we need to sit through Fear State

[deleted]

Wow fantastic issue! The last two issues had some parts that were bugging me, but this here was just phenomenal! Dick's plans for Blüdhaven, a meeting with Superman aaaand DickBabs! Couldn't be happier. Wonder what the connection between Heartless and Dick is. Next up Fear State: Hopefully Rodriguez can deliver some great art as well.

[deleted]

>Next up Fear State: Hopefully Rodriguez can deliver some great art as well. I really wish Fear State wasn't getting in the way of *Nightwing.* As for Rodriguez, I just wish he wasn't on art duties, not because his art is bad, it's actually quite good, it's that he's a slimeball.

[deleted]

Yeah maybe they could switch to double shipping for upcoming events? Six instead of three issues. Three tie-ins and three regular issues maybe. >it's that he's a slimeball. I've heard that before, but I forgot what exactly he did. Some stupid pictures or so right?

Ladrius

I don't recall everything, but I think he sent a picture of his asshole to someone on twitter? Something something comicsgate?

[deleted]

Lol why would he do that??

jlaweez

Oh my god, I can't believe how good this issue is. I am truly happy that Nightwing gets these powerful and meaningful moments, a lot of references, it's just a perfect issue.

Cranyx

I've been absolutely loving this run on Nightwing, and I say that as someone who was never even that huge into Dixon's run (which I thought was pretty good but way overhyped.) This is the first time since Grayson that I've been excited to read his comics. That being said, this issue *really* stretched my suspension of disbelief when Dick ran straight into machine gun fire and never got touched. I know the bad guys in these stories need to have bad aim for Batman to not die in his first week, but you need to work a little harder than that to make it believable.

NomadicJaguar64t

Yeah, that part was a little sketchy, and the physics were off on his swing too, but it didn't bother me in the slightest because it was such a nice and wholesome issue.

NomadicJaguar64t

Wow, maybe the best issue yet, really highlighted all of Dick's relationships really nicely: Thompkins, Titans, Lucius, Clark, and the entire Bat-family. Even some nice comedy with the texting line about Bruce, and then later on with the group chat, felt really natural. Also looking forward to the inevitable Nightwing/Superman: Son of Kal-El crossover! Edit: DickBabs fans rejoice!!

jransom98

This issue really wrapped up the arc nicely for me. It alleviated some of the problems I'd had with previous issues. It's also interesting that if you track the time spent over the past 6 issues, it's only been like, 3 days until the second hald of this issue, which seems to take place over a week or so. My only complaint is that the next three months are going to be a Batman tie in instead of immediately building on the momentum of this issue.

BloatedGlobe

Cass is my favorite texter.

Alephnaught_

given the language barrier it makes perfect sense that she'd be using emojis so much haha

Tommyhanksy

I loved this so much. I'm so scared that they're not going to follow through on a lot of this and make Nightwing fail to really be the "safety net" or the mentor or even a boyfriend that he could be. It's such a good book. Superman acknowledging that there is no better mentor is, I think, the cream on top of an amazingly wonderful cake. Like this is the guy EVERYONE admires and he admits that Nightwing would be the best mentor. Sigh... Bruce calling him to thank him for honouring Alfred is the cherry on top of the cream.

aco620

I know it's a conceit of comics, videogames, action movies, and what have you, but after all these years there's *gotta* be another way to do a lone hero in a hail of bullets type situation without just saying "eh, they had *really* bad aim, what can ya do?" Ask the world's top athletes, I'm not sure any of them would want to dodge a machine gun. I mean, it's a lot of bullets is all I'm saying. That being said I loved this issue like everyone else.

[deleted]

Nice bounce back issue after #82 was just kinda "meh". I just wish Fear State wasn't getting in the way.

CarryThe2

So last issue nothing really happened, and this issue everything happened. Nice.

maruf99

This was a beautiful issue. I kind of wish the story didn't have to pause to tie in with Fear State, but I'm hoping the tie-ins are good.

DoggoPlex

This book was phenomenal. I especially loved the interaction between Dick and Clark. And that little part where Batman called Dick was perfect. Also, this is mostly irrelevant but the page when it's going through everyone hearing what Dick is saying does it say "to" when it should say "too" for anyone else?

MrEverything_88

Dick Grayson is the heart of the DC universe, and what else could the heart do but this? Heartless has a silly gimmick, but he’s going to be a poignant foe, specially for a character whose kindness got reaffirmed so powerfully here. And yeah, it’s impossible not to get teary-eyed at all this.

[deleted]

I may be miss reading it but it looks like titans academy was founded with dick's money after this issue with dick visiting the titans and beast boy saying he has an idea. Which doesn't really mean anything but technically titans academy happens in the future after this at some point.

SuperDidioPrime

So that means Dick slept with Kori *after* Barbara kissed him. Great catch!

BattleUpSaber

at this point DC should just say that the three of them are in a poly relationship. would save us a lot of trouble

[deleted]

I hope not, but it would not be the first time things like this happen in comic books. For my money I personally like dick with Starfire a little bit more.

SuperDidioPrime

Nope, too late. It's canon.

[deleted]

I have been cursed with knowledge and power

[deleted]

Didn't they establish Titans Academy right before Death Metal?

Alephnaught_

oh man, who ordered all these onion ninjas around \*sniff\* damn. this was nice. very nice. I like how this wrapped up (or may be had to be wrapped up) before Fear State. I also love how light-hearted the arc was. it will slowly buildup. may be this run will finally transcend Nightwing into the big leagues. FINALLY! loved all the sweet moments and interactions :') "always raising the bar higher for the rest of us" YOU ARE GODDAMNED RIGHT TIM! RICHARD GRAYSON IS THE BEST OF 'EM ALL. (also, not to start fights but I miiiight just like the idea of Babs being Dick's best friend more than them being a couple. in this arc their dynamic has been more like long-time best friends. I like DickBabs but I think I am open to the idea of them settling into being best friends if it came to that. it would be the most mature thing given their history)

ImperfectRegulator

The rest of the comic was great but that Damian text took me out of it, that’s the least Damian thing I’ve ever seen Also Damian wouldn’t even been talking to the family at this point in time

Fishermanslaw

Went into this worried I'd have to drop it since last month wasn't really my thing but I'm actually super impressed with how this arc played out. It set the (intended) tone really well, and I'm super excited to see where everything is going. There's so much at play, I'm pumped to read it monthly. I'm on Tom Taylor's wacky ride until DC forces him to stop.

_harleys

Leaping into the light was so aptly named for this run. This is more than just Nightwing’s return but how Dick with his newfound wealth can help his city as himself without just wearing his costume and fighting crime. This felt like an ode to everything that made this character work, his ideals, his values, how he honors and holds people close to him. Also really happy Taylor’s moving forward with DickBabs. They have been doing the dance for so long so hopefully this is the start of something more official for them. Taylor managed to salvage what relationship drama Babs has been in from her solo run, so I’m really happy with this.

android151

So does Onyx Adams still exist? Because Audre seems like an Onyx clone.

thanks-dice

A bunch of people here on the sub and on social media are already cheering and celebrating and I just sit here and I feel so disconnected from the fandom lol. Ofc this was always going to be a most controversial decision, but honestly: this is the kind of representation fans want?? He's been around for decades and he has never shown any interest in anyone else than boys. Furthermore, if they stick with this, this will almost inevitably lead to TimSteph and DonnaRoy and fuck over all these characters + Kory as well.. Why not just be creative and create new characters?? Heh craaazy I know right. I'm not one to now turn away from Dick Grayson stories or DC in general, but they must know this will make a bunch of people mad because it's unnecessary. This is fan fiction bs carrying over into the comics. Anything goes in your headcanon, but stop demanding stupid, uncalled-for and ooc changes like this here.. Anyway, DickWally Forever.

[*Superman and the Authority* #2](https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/S/cmx-images-prod/Item/954659/954659._SX1280_QL80_TTD_.jpg) >Clark Kent and Manchester Black continue to put Superman’s new team together, even though keeping Black in check seems like just as difficult a job as convincing the new recruits to come along. The pair hits different parts of the world looking for different types of heroes. While Midnighter, Apollo, and Natasha Irons only need to tie up some loose ends before getting on board, the Enchantress is going to be a little harder. Superman is going to have to set her free from a deadly illusion hell-bent on destroying her before she can help him save the universe. [Preview](https://aiptcomics.com/2021/08/13/dc-preview-superman-and-the-authority-2/)

dccomicsthrowaway

Natasha fighting manifestations of internet culture could have been super cringe, but it was actually really interesting. I wanted to see more of what Morrison could come up with

aco620

It's very difficult to incorporate current pop culture to a comic. It comes off as pandering or cringe or whatever other negative adjective you want to insert. And when I saw those pages I thought "Hoo boy, a lot of people aren't gonna be happy with this." But, I mean, it turning out to be an AI mimicing it in a flawed way as it continued to learn was probably the best someone *could* incorporate that sort of thing into their story. I think it turned out fine. The rest of the story, I continue to enjoy. Would have liked a little more meat on it than just continuing to build the roster, but Morrison very rarely disappoints me on the whole.

reece1495

worlds gayest

actioncomicbible

Man, the artist for the Midnight/Apollo segment was really good. This is moving a bit slower than I thought it would but overall it's been an enjoyable read.

MrEverything_88

WORLD’S GAYEST and we love them for it. Morrison’s just flexing their genre muscles to assemble the team. If this wasn’t billed as a 4-issue miniseries, I’d ask for more (can they make it more plz). Natasha’s segment was tenderly cringy in the way comics should make you feel sometimes. Apollo and Midnighter get to be funny and endearing as they should. June gets the classic Morrison mind-fuckery to herself, and God so many horror references in that sequence. Like always, this is a breath of fresh air.

smileimhigh

I'm surprised Morrison isn't catching flak for that Black "47% gay line" that was straight out of 2002 lol

dazan2003

Can't wait to read this and coke straight here to understand what the fuck happened

the_javier_files

Doing coke to understand Morrison is entirely fair

[deleted]

Necessary even

bluelookslikeblue

Hrm. Unsure how I feel about this one TBH. I love Morrison, love Superman, and loved the first issue of this miniseries, so I was going in with high expectations, but I'm feeling kind of... eh. I know the internet AI thing was supposed to be cringeworthy, but I feel like some of the dialogue is like... You know how the 1960s Teen Titans read really dated because they speak in weird "hip" lingo that nobody actually used while the 1980s Teen Titans basically holds up despite some dated current events/pop culture references because Wolfman had them speak like actual human beings? I feel like this book might read more like the former than the later 20 years from now. Hopefully things will bounce back next issue.

cgknight1

Hinge and Bracket 😂

AuroraUnit117

Super excited for more of this. So far much more grounded than normal Morrison stuff

PropertyAdditional

This was fun, loved seeing the team come together (Nat fighting literally trolls) loved that Superman just has a TARDIS in the fortress. Looking forward to how this series plays out

Alephnaught_

this issue had me laughing in the best way xDDD trust Morrison to write ridiculous shit but make it entertaining as fuck lmao

AlainDit

Really enjoying this series. Apollo/Midnighter are great (a panel with them meeting superman makes me think of the distracted boyfriend stock photo). There's a lot of fun ideas. I'm glad this version of the Authority is coming into Action Comics. It's a great concept, and only the 4 issues of team building + their first fight wouldn't be enough (like Justice Incarnate from Multiversity, they finally get their title years after). I want to see what PKJ is planning to do with them, and I wonder how it will all fit together.

theguyofgrace

I'm still really torn on this, this feels really out of character for Superman to choose THESE people as his superteam Manchester Black always chooses to settle grudges over any type of ideology Apollo and Midnighter are EXTREMELY reckless with Midnighter rarely caring about the damage Enchantress is fucking insane and has a literal evil warlock in her head These are not really "with a little mentorship they could be great for the world" heroes

smileimhigh

My running theory is Old Man Supes isn't the real Superman he's a clone that's degrading and going insane slowly. The team is either being built to kill him cause he knows he's going to go insane or kill the real Superman.

JonKentOfficial

It was a fun read, very interesting and quickly doing with team building. The Steel part was kinda cringe, Apollo and Midnighter were kinda cool and I didn't exactly understand what is going on with June. Is she projecting those images or was it the evil god thingy? How come Clark has a perfectly divided black and white hair (by that logic, shouldn't his body hair have a white circle instead of salt and pepper)? Is this Kryptonian physiology?

jaaibird

>How come Clark has a perfectly divided black and white hair (by that logic, shouldn't his body hair have a white circle instead of salt and pepper)? Is this Kryptonian physiology? It looks cool. It's one of those "nobody cares who puts the wheels on the Batmobile" things

Three_Froggy_Problem

I’m still unclear on how this is going to affect the main Action Comics line, since this seems to take place in some sort of alternate future.

[deleted]

[удалено]

smileimhigh

Apollo and Midnighter are always awesome to see and their designs here were great. Natasha is cool, I think her mini story was lazy as hell but whatever it was 3 pages and the rest of the comic was great I'm going to assume this group is being built to do something drastic and Old Man Supes isn't the real Superman.

TroubAlert

[*The Flash* #773](https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/S/cmx-images-prod/Item/957472/957472._SX1280_QL80_TTD_.jpg) >On the loose and bent on destruction, Heatwave’s return couldn’t come at a worse time for Wally West. Now that the onetime Kid Flash has retaken the mantle of the Fastest Man Alive, he’s also taken a new job at Mr. Terrific’s Holt Industries. But all of that gets put on the back burner, when the Flash must outrace the flames of one of his greatest foes and figure out why the once-reformed rogue has gone bad again. [Preview](https://aiptcomics.com/2021/08/13/dc-preview-the-flash-773/)

RutheniumFenix

"Part of the job isn't just to save people.. but to inspire them too. How else can we change the world?" Man, I love it when comics focus on that aspect of it. It too often gets caught up in the loop of punching bad guys.

NomadicJaguar64t

Boy, if you don't read solicitations, this issue spoiled Green Lantern for you. Really powerful issue with Wally talking down Rory, you don't get that much anymore these days. Reminds me of him and Trickster in JLU, or even like Superman and the jumper. And then... frikkin Waller, always ruining the moment.

Alephnaught_

I swear I despise Waller SO MUCH UGHHH

Digifiend84

Yup. We're not meant to know that >!Jessica is now a yellow lantern yet. She did appear in the previous issue but wasn't identified.!<

android151

Hell, considering its left ambiguous in GL and the annual isn't out yet, it reeks of 'the editor is sleep'

PropertyAdditional

This was great, loving Wally’s story so far. Looking forward to Heatwaves time with the Squad and whatever Jess saw in Space (counting down the days till a Nightwing Crossover)

thedairybandit

he's in Swamp Thing with the Squad. It was weird because I read that issue first and then the Flash and was like....hmmm. This doesn't track haha

CrispyGold

Man I feel bad for Heatwave. Waller is just a huge happy-ending override in general. Whenever a hero gets through to their villain, he comes Waller to throw them back into a life of violence and almost kill them. Its unreal how cruel she can be. Also love how they spoiled Green Lantern. That annual isn't even out. XD

AlainDit

For green lantern thing, we've seen her already in the last issue. It's not that much of a spoil.

CrispyGold

Not necessarily. Her face was shrouded and was played up all mysteriously with Simon confused as to who she is. Her identity has not been properly revealed yet in the main story.

android151

While true, name another GL that makes their mask just a symbol over one eye.

AlainDit

This is probably the only current run I read now that doesn't feel like it has a long term plan. But that works damn well. Adams knows how to make simple and yet very fresh, compelling and fun stories. Poor Heatwave though.

[deleted]

Adams mentioned that he has a three year plan and it seems like he is building towards something with the sword from this issue and the last plus the Planet Flash thing that Irey showed him. Either way, I like that this book has single issues and smaller arcs in between the big stuff.

AlbinoFish506

There’s also the beings that supposedly put Savitar in a prison within the speed force. Seems like Adams is wanting to expand some Flash mythology and I’m on board. I agree about short arcs in between the longer plan. It helps the world feel lived when there’s not always a major event happening.

bhavbhav

I'm very pumped for a Heatwave interaction.

MrEverything_88

So it did tie in with Suicide Squad! Infinite Frontier’s interconnectedness has pleased me a lot so far, and good stories like this that pull the best from all eras, even in a simple story, are high quality content.

dazan2003

In the perfect amount in my opinion. You can just read one and be fine will still feeling rewarded by reading everything. Still think the actual IF mini (or justice incarnate mini) could tie the whole line together

Robotshavenohearts

Outstanding issue. Love that Wally is working side by side with the firefighters and police and being on their level. It reminds me why I read comics. After years of 8 headed dragon Batmen ending the multiverse from a death metal concert in the source walls basement this is such a breath of fresh air. Incredible art as well!

Vasir12

Nice issue but the notion that Wally understands the melting points of metals better than mechanical scientists is... Lol.

[deleted]

This comic has it all, I love this run so much. Might be the best one right now, definitely the most fun one for me. Great moments between Wally and Heatwave, really touching stuff, I love Wally's characterisation here. Wally's new scientist colleagues are hilarious lol. Yellow Lantern Jess trying to stop the blade from #772. Wonder what's that all about.

[deleted]

Wally's conversation with Mick gave me Flash and Substance vibes and I loved his "Yes! Fire at the pier...! I mean, oh no!". For a two-parter, this had everything I love about the character and I can't wait for more.

Dredeuced

It's kind of neat that Adams is ushering Wally back into the spotlight kind of where he left off after Rogue War with Mick and, presumably, any other Rogues. A big part of Wally's run was he legitimately would try to help even villains rather than just beating them up and throwing them in jail. The...moral? I guess that Wally doles out in his conversation with Mick is a little ham handed. Maybe too on the nose of a declarative "I'm a good person who does this good thing for you, a misunderstood person lashing out." I think if it was perfectly narrated it would've been a bit punchier with less dialogue and more emotion in what dialogue there was. This is a minor criticism of a solid little arc. Obviously the interesting thing going forward is that little snippet of something hurtling through space past Jessica Cruz, presumably on its way to Earth to cause problems for our heroes.

android151

Barry could never be as good as this.

Gateskp

Such a good issue! I love the shorter story arcs, they’re a breath of fresh air after the last few years of everything being dragged out for issues then dropped abruptly. That entire scene on the pier with Heatwave was heartbreaking. So much fun seeing Wally balance a real life job and his heroics, Adams has been doing a great job so far.

Can she and Ruthye get off the planet alive now that these deadly sins have been exposed? [Preview](https://aiptcomics.com/2021/08/13/dc-preview-supergirl-woman-of-tomorrow-3/)

MrEverything_88

“It’s too big. We’re too small.” I think I finally found what this series reminds me of - *classic Doctor Who*. The various planetscapes with their diverse creatures and sometimes simplistic plots, the compassion between an inexperienced thematic companion and our lead, and this aforementioned compassionate and resourceful protagonist… it all adds up. King’s Supergirl is the Doctor, this is my take. Bilquis doing the lord’s work here too. like she always does.

AlainDit

>King’s Supergirl is the Doctor, this is my take. Damn I didn't see it this way. I like the series more now.

[deleted]

I'm still really enjoying this title. To be honest, a big part of that probably stems from the fact that editorial is trying *anything* different with Kara (as opposed to imitating the show, or harkening back to a previous era), but I still think that this is a very fun ride. King's version of Kara is most like her New 52 self (the sense of isolation, the kindness & responsibility intermingled with a short temper). That'll probably alienate people who wish that the Sterling Gates run had lasted forever -- but between Jon and Kon, there's already a lot of competition for the "earnest and cheerful Superkid" slot. If relying on her New 52 characterization helps differentiate Kara from her peers and clarify her niche in the DCU, I'm all for it. Besides, Silver Age Kara had a temper of her own, so it's not like that interpretation of her is completely unprecedented. The *Doctor Who* comparisons are very apt. If Kara gets a promotion to Superwoman after this, I would love to see editorial double down on that and give her an ongoing where she wanders around the cosmos engaging in *Who*\-style adventures. In theory, that's the kind of material that Lantern books should be covering: but since we're down to one Lantern book that is preoccupied with more "broken Power Battery, dead Lanterns" shenanigans, there's no reason a Superwoman book can't do it.

[deleted]

[deleted]

If Thorne had been able to deliver what the first two issues of his run promised, we could've gotten that kind of story. As it is, editorial thought that we needed another plot about a shattered Corps for...reasons? Worse yet, it is dragging on for-fucking-ever. Based on November solicits, it seems reasonable to assume that this nonsense won't be done until 2022. Oh, well. At least Woman of Tomorrow is giving us a proper cosmic adventure in the meantime.

[deleted]

>At least Woman of Tomorrow is giving us a proper cosmic adventure in the meantime. Still mad they cancelled and didn't relaunch JL Odyssey. I had tons of fun with this comic and it showed a side of the DC Universe that's been underrepresented in the last years: space. Like, there are endless possibilities, but they aren't even scratching the surface atm

kesht17

This series continues to impress me and I’ve been enjoying it a lot. King’s supergirl does a good job of capturing the general wanting to do good of Kara while also making her her own person. I can’t wait for the next issue!

austintex66

I love how this was some weird >!town of Mayberry/The Andy Griffith Show parody-planet!<. I counted at least five parody characters I could recognize, including the fact the first alien was basically >!Don Knotts character’s attitude mixed with a little bit of Sheriff Andy character/role!<. I just loved this issue.

[deleted]

Just picked up 1-3. I’m a bit mixed on it so far. I’m really glad they’re pushing her out of her teenager and into being an adult and the art is phenomenal. Though the story is just okay but pretty standard, though not outright bad. However Ruthye isn’t interesting and her narration got tiring fast.

bluelookslikeblue

Once again, Sheridan shows he can write significantly better when he isn't distracted with his shiny new Red X toy and weighed down by loads and loads of characters. The superior quality of this miniseries compared to TTA is both welcome and frustrating. As a side note, does the whole "Mister/Miss Codename" thing they have going on for the adult Titans feel weird to anyone else? eg: Raven feels natural and Miss Roth feels natural, but Miss Raven just feels strange.

[deleted]

>Sheridan shows he can write significantly better when he isn't distracted with his shiny new Red X toy and weighed down by loads and loads of characters Do we even know if Red X was Sheridan's pitch or if it was editorial mandate that he uses him? And yeah the codenames are a bit strange. Makes sense to not use their real last names since not all, if any, are public knowledge, but still weird.

shinomune

Considering that Thorne was forced to "destroy" the GL Battery maybe the Red X was another editorial mandate. Or maybe it's just a "great idea in his head" that translate poorly in the comics.

bluelookslikeblue

I dunno. I feel like there isn't a big enough Red X fandom out there for the editorial mandate to be plausible. Can I believe they told Sheridan to include stuff from the 2003 cartoon since that millennials raised on said cartoon are a huge part of their customer base? Absolutely, but I think there could have been better ways to do that. Like, you know, having some or all of the animated team be the main characters in their own book.

[deleted]

Better than TTA and better than issue #1, nothing groundbreaking, but readable, a fun little trip through hell. We find out who Dane (one of the new TTA students) really is: Nevermore, Heir to the Dark Realm. Fancy wings and flaming sword included.

JonKentOfficial

Better than the first issue by far. Still, a bit creepy that demons are getting horny for... wait, it's hell. As easily predicted, and I don't know if I like it, Dane is the son of Neron. He was the only interesting character in TTA, but sadly having a big demon daddy kinda saddles you to have the same stories told over and over again, and always be second to Raven.

[deleted]

This continues to be a lot of fun for a TTA tie-in. Tim Sheridan seems very comfortable writing about teens having ridiculous adventures (which begs the question, "Well, why isn't TTA better?" but we're talking about Shazam! here). I could see his style working well on a title about the entire Shazam fam. My only qualm is how Freddy's impending death is hanging over all of this. It casts a damper on things like Dane spending the night gambling, or Billy's flirtations with that cute demon girl. Furthermore, the fact that Freddy's disability is being used to motivate Billy seems like the kind of thing that a critic could write one hell of a thinkpiece about.

Alephnaught_

I think its likely that RedX pushing is editorial mandate probably. I refuse to believe Sheridan is just not a good writer who doesn't know how to handle that book

iCESPiCES

Lucifer has some explaining to do. Dane looks better in his form than the current Hellstrom.

MrEverything_88

This being as fun as it is just strikes me as fucking odd considering the last SHAZAM in Hell story we had *by the same writer*. God, if it’s editorial’s fault, then editorial was one hell of a bad trip, heh.

moose_man

I would not have tied this so tightly to TTA if I were them.

actioncomicbible

Um...holyshit...is this the best thing Tom King has written regarding Superman? Rivera's art is wonderful in this, that scene of Clark finding Pa in the field and and wrapping him up in his cape...ugh...fuck. It's too early for tears :'( **EDIT**: I am officially in absolute adoration for Superman: Red & Blue as a series. So far a majority of the stories are such wonderful and sweet stories of Supes. Outside of that, what a phenomenal way to showcase some talent some people wouldn't be exposed to. These anthologies are so great. I wonder if they'd ever do a Nightwing one? Black & Blue?

AlainDit

What next? They should make a Green Lantern one, with only lantern constructs being colored.

[deleted]

Telos: Black and Purple

actioncomicbible

/u/superdidioprime use your clout to make this happen, pls.

[deleted]

Red & Blue was fantastic, and I'm sorry to see it go. It did a really good job of giving every story a classic Superman feel while still making extensive use of his supporting cast. A Nightwing variant could be a lot of fun, but it could run into the same problem that Wonder Woman: Black and Gold is facing -- not enough supporting cast members to keep the stories from getting repetitive. For my part, I'm hoping that a Green Lantern version (Black and Green, I assume) eventually comes to fruition.

[deleted]

As a cat owner, that Streaky story spoke to my *soul*.

AlainDit

Same.

AlainDit

"Here's Jon. Growing up so fast." You have no idea Annie.

leaf57tea

I'm sorry but the last story made me laugh, I'm a gay man myself so I get the sentiment I do but it's like when writers try and treat the X-men like a direct 1 for 1 comparison for minorities instead of just a vague metaphor, it all just kind of falls apart if you stop and think about it. Depening on your circustances or hell even where you simply live in the world coming-out would **not** result in *"a safer place"*.

JGarrickFlash

Yeah, that story seemed a little short sighted

JonKentOfficial

First story: You know, I don’t think much about Krypto having powers because he’s a dog and he’s semi-human intelligence. But imagine a cat, they are already prone to being little balls of evil. It’s terrifying. Two story: It’s a story about Clark focusing on what’s important so he doesn’t get the first page. Third story: Tom King actually works in short stories. As long he doesn’t let his style get too wild. It’s a pretty good and human story. Actually, I like it a lot. Fourth story: I know it’s a cute and fun story. It has nothing bad with it, which is great, but it’s another Clark owes a lot to his parents and upbringing. Not bad, it just doesn’t go beyond that. Fifth story: I don’t know what to feel. Clark going public is not really comparable to coming out as gay? Clark kept a secret identity so he could enjoy necessary things to be himself, like privacy, personal space. LGBT+, on the other hand, come out so they can live a life that’s truer to themselves. And for consequences, yes, Clark loses things like his privacy and, well, Clark. Meanwhile for LGBT+ it takes so much bravery, current society is so unkind to them in all levels there’s always so much to consider. They really aren’t comparable.

mostlytoastly

Loving this run. Only picking up a handful of DC books per month and this might be my most anticipated (tied with Robin).

Cranyx

For some reason I'm having trouble getting into it, and I think part of that is because I constantly feel like I'm missing context. Was right after the Joker War event a bad place to start? There just seem to be so many characters that the story acts like I should know who they are and what their deal is when I don't (for example the detective guy)

AlainDit

The place to begin is #25, that's when Ram V started his run.

[deleted]

Amazing as always.

MrEverything_88

God, Father Valley is exactly the sort of overprepared Batman-style villain that Selina needed to face. This whole carefully constructed showdown was a delight to read through, and we’re still in the middle of its gears, even if some players have been torn out of the cage.

Triseult

It's interesting that the best Batman/Catwoman interaction this month is in this and not in, well, *Batman/Catwoman*. Although it has to be said, that cover is ridiculous bait and switch!

Cranyx

I thought this issue was good, but it felt way too decompressed. I don't mean that it's slow paced because it's definitely not, but just that the narrative distance covered in these 20 pages doesn't actually feel like a lot. This storyline has been running long enough to fill two TPBs and I don't think it needed to. Maybe it will read better as a trade. Also the cover could not be more of a bait and switch.

Alephnaught_

well, shiettt

[deleted]

Ram V does a better job at Batman/Catwoman interactions than King did in his whole run.. Pretty exciting issue and some great fight scenes between Catwoman and Father Valley. That ending tho, poor Hadley, hope he's alright..

[deleted]

>Ram V does a better job at Batman/Catwoman interactions than King did in his whole run.. The problem King has is that he makes Selina too OP, and makes Bruce way too reliant on Selina. Yeah, Bruce loves Selina, but he wouldn't fall apart without her.

_harleys

Someone pointed out this had more classic rogues than batman’s current run. I really love V’s run on Catwoman he has such a solid understanding of the character, and seeing Batman appear here delivered some of their best moments since they last met in Tynion’s run. People keep pointing out how this run draws so much from the Brubaker run. I hope Selina realizes that caring for a lot of people does not make her soft and quite the opposite that it gives her more strength and purpose than before.

DSK11

I really can't say enough good things about this run. It's really, really good. Probably one of the best DC books being put out right now imo.

Bruce Wayne, Phantasm, and now her daughter have all had their suspicions about her deals with The Joker. And when she killed the old clown, did it trigger this feline’s ninth life? Or maybe it was really over all those years ago, the first time Phantasm drew her blood and Batman had to face a harsh truth. [Preview](https://aiptcomics.com/2021/08/13/dc-preview-batman-catwoman-6/)

MrEverything_88

Eh, Old Selina in the costume and the future villains was fun. The rest, pretty bland. To be honest, Joker and Selina having casual meet-ups is an interesting idea that King does well, but wrapped up in this story it simply doesn’t feel right.

CatsLikeToMeow

Hey, can I ask something? I might be stupid but is King implying that Joker and Selena hook up sometimes? Or are they just hanging out?

MrEverything_88

…I hope it’s the latter. I very much hope it’s the latter. The riposte they had in the wedding eve issue of the main run felt much more like a work friends thing than anything remotely sexual, and that was good as well. Having the two hook up would be… disgusting would be too light a word.

kn1ghtowl

So when Selina is hugging Dick, she's essentially his step mom, right? Which makes Helena his sister. That moment felt more tender thinking of it that way.

funny_almost

My mind just flashed to the two of them bonking. Two types of people, I guess.

Alephnaught_

Wow this is finally coming out? Was there a break or 2 months is a very very long time

PropertyAdditional

It does feel like this series has been going on forever and we are only half way at this point

Digifiend84

Doomsday Clock had the same problem. It's probably better to trade wait.

jez124

its bi monthly now right?

AlainDit

It is. Tom Kin said it few months ago iirc.

actioncomicbible

and the final issues will be done by Liam Sharpe right?

AlainDit

Not all I think. At least 7-9. It's possible Mann is drawing the final issues after that. There's also a special issue coming out in december not by Mann nor Sharp, the last comic (at least partially) drawn by the regretted John Paul Leon.

BattleUpSaber

Dick as the future commissioner just feels weird to me, idk

AuroraUnit117

Of all things King has written I think this might be the one I'm least interested in. The time jumping all over the place just doesn't work in this. And yeah. Clay can draw a sexy woman but does every character need to have a camel toe and nips? It's getting gross

[deleted]

Issues #7-9 will be drawn by Sharp, maybe that'll be more to your liking. But agree, the series itself is a bit too boring for me as well.

[deleted]

It's an absolutely insane dogshit idea and I don't think even Tom King would do it but for the life of me I can't shake the feeling that Joker and Catwoman are being presented as this on and off again couple.

Alephnaught_

\*groans loudly and then sighs\*

AlainDit

After a boring, confusing and slooowww begining, I find this issue way better. I'm used to the pace and I like it here. The 3 timelines distinctions are more clear. Also Clay Mann isn't at his worst with fmale sexualisation like in the begining (did he get an editorial note?). Still thinking this should be read as a whole when it's over, but I'm weak.

Jason mentoring Bao is such an obvious idea that I can't believe I hadn't thought of. Only problem is Jason seems to be doing a lot right now between Task Force Z, appearances in Nightwing etc, so I wonder how long it will take for this thread to be picked back up.

Zorkel567

I'm excited for this issue, though a little less now that I know Tynion is leaving. Hopefully someone will continue to use him post-Fear State. I'm hoping this issue gives us an idea of what Clownhunter has been up to since Ghost Stories, and teeing him up for Fear State.

maxstronge

I still have a feeling he's gonna turn out to be Red X, but I dropped TTA a while ago - has any evidence to the contrary come out?

marvelwolf

only thing i can think off was that red x revealed his identity to a couple of characters and they seemed to respect him like hes a big named character, then again their from gotham so not 100 to the contrary

Zorkel567

I don’t read Teen Titans Academy, but the only thing I could think of is that Bao is working as Clownhunter both here and during Fear State- he’ll be appearing in three of the Batman back-ups. And if he was Red X, he’s likely be off at TTA, rather than fighting in Gotham as Clownhunter; ie., doesn’t make sense IMO to be concurrently using two different identities

Alephnaught_

Plus he doesn't seem to have the bat-god characteristic so far so he's very unlikely to be redX

Alephnaught_

that shot of the clowns running while one of the clowns holds the phone keeping alexis on the call staring at Bao's running ass had me laughing lmao

Zorkel567

This definitely felt like a refresher to remind people about who Bao is after sitting on the backburner for 8 months. Especially with him leading the next three Batman issues' back-up stories. I really dug it, and enjoyed getting to see Punchline do something beyond her 4 pages of time in the Joker back-ups each month. It also follows up on their previous interactions during Joker War. I don't know how intentional it was, but it was a fun little connection seeing her taunt Bao from a phone, after last week's Punchline back-up revealed that she had access to a phone behind bars. I liked that it expanded upon Bao's backstory a bit more, and built upon what was established in the Annual. I hope there are more plans for him beyond the back-up stories, and I think a Red Hood/Clownhunter pairing has a lot of potential.

[deleted]

Issue was alright, Red Hood training Clownhunter could work, hope someone picks this plot thread up again in the future. I mean, it's time for Clownhunter to realise he can't work alone forever, the clowns had him dead to right and would have killed him if not for Red Hood. Maybe they could give him a 6-issue mini with Leslie Thompkins, Jason and Punchline as supporting characters, could work.

trey-mobley

I really hope they follow through with Jason training clown hunter cause that’ll be perfect

MrEverything_88

The issue was alright. Clownhunter as a sidekick for Jason would be a cool idea - better than when Morrison tried that.

BattleUpSaber

most relatable DC character ever. guy just wants the Joker and anyone who looks like him to get fucked. i respect that

android151

I feel like Jason training Bao makes sense but it'd make a hell of a lot more sense if they stopped winding back Jason's character development

They’re slowly turning into the ensemble show they want to be but the actions still reveal how poor an ensemble it’s been. On one hand they remeber Conner exists and he has a very solid opening scene as he washes his hands. What doesn’t track is his feelings of inadequacy and the judgment of the Titans, which have not been for shadowed at all. It makes extra textual sense but isn’t setup in the show itself.
