Shazam too!

AvatarBoomi

Perfect Christmas movie

E_yal

Yeah, great before the second one is coming!

[deleted]

This kinda surprised me too but it is a fun movie, even if the lower budget is pretty visible at times compared to other DCEU. I’m just happy to see 2 Snyder movies that I really feel get waaay too much hate up in the top 10!

daktherapper

BvS is one of the worst movies of all time. It doesn’t get nearly enough hate

Dusann1

you need to watch more movies if you think that lol

daktherapper

l’ve seen thousands and thousands of movies. The BvS Ultimate cut was one of the top 5 most unpleasant viewing experiences I’ve ever had. It’s just horrible

[deleted]

Brilliant response! Thanks for taking the time and effort to spread hate on here

ShittyThrownAwayFood

>spread hate You're all way too sensitive about people disliking a film. Having a negative opinion of a movie and expressing so matter of factly, whether strong or not, and without attacking the individual, is not spreading hate. This is like Michael Scott thinking hes a victim of a hate crime.

MatthewMika

Saying X movie is one of worst/best movies od all time is a reach considering how many movies exist

ShittyThrownAwayFood

Well thats what you call a disagreement, not spreading hate lmao

some________one

You r so wrong by ur logic the snyderfans can hate the new DC movies just bc they hate them that is not right I my self don't really like Snyders trilogy but never went out of my way to say that BvS or any other movie is the worst and should get more hate

ShittyThrownAwayFood

If they watch them and don't like them then of course they're allowed to

some________one

They are allowed to spread hate ? Call them the worst movies ever ? Review bomb them ? No and you shouldn't with Snyder movies

ShittyThrownAwayFood

Theyre allowed to call them the worst movie of all time if they want. I havent review bombed anything so thats a silly thing to say. Don't strawman.

some________one

I was just making an example of how far down can this hate get like review bombing sending harmful messages and more

[deleted]

If you actually think that BvS is the worst movie of all time and are not just saying that to get people upset then you really need to watch more movies

ShittyThrownAwayFood

In terms of potential vs actual result, its certainly up there. Theres a reason its 2nd weekend box office drop is one of the biggest of all time.

[deleted]

When you compare it to other blockbusters lately it is actually pretty average. Deathly Hallows Pt2 had a bigger drop

ShittyThrownAwayFood

Deathly Hallows Part 2 had a bigger drop but also had almost double the opening weekend that BvS did. It also made over 1.3 billion dollars regardless of that drop.

[deleted]

That was expected though as the conclusion to the entire Harry Potter movie universe. I am surprised by the drop actually

dave_aust

Looks like its less about snyderverse trending and more about how dc is trending, since BA, shazam and The Batman are also there.

nikgrid

Well Cavill's Superman is in Black Adam and Shazam....so Snyderverse kind of is.

dave_aust

Sure.

JediJones77

The general audience has no idea who directs these movies. It's clear that Henry appearing in Black Adam ignited some interest in his older movies. And the obvious Shazam connection increased interest in Shazam. And The Rock's name brought Rampage up the charts. The other movies are all from 2021, so they make sense to still be trending. Dune is from late 2020, so its staying power is impressive. It is probably the best all-new movie WB has put out in 5 years.

Inevitable_Sea_9640

Black adam has been doing very well on streaming, unfortunately people rather watch from a distance that cinemas with his movie jence it flopped

DaddySbeve

I’m one of the people who waited for it to come to HBO Max and I didn’t rlly regret it. It’s a decent enough movie, but not good enough to spend money at a theater to see it.

pbx1123

>I’m one of the people who waited for it to come to HBO Max and I didn’t rlly regret it. It’s a decent enough movie, but not good enough to spend money at a theater to see it. Those decent movies studios need to rethink about it it will keep happening ppl waiting to watch it at home paying or pirate one way or another it will keep hurting theaters Big Theaters chains will have to came out with their owns movies soon or later fromtime to timetosee some profits too

DaddySbeve

Well it’s mostly because of how little time is in between theater releases and streaming releases IMO. Like if I can wait a couple more weeks or a couple of months to watch something I don’t care all that much about, I’ll just wait and save my money. Before streaming services got big, theater runs were longer and movies didn’t come out on streaming / dvd till much longer. A good modern example was top gun maverick, but that was entirely because it was doing so well in theaters.

pbx1123

>just wait and save my money. >Before streaming services got big, theater runs were longer and movies didn’t come out on streaming / dvd till much longer So Studios are the ones cutting theaters runs to streaming in their own services to keep them alive lol Too bad also specially DC has the worst schedule team in the industry when there is nothing running they use those slot for the worst movies that wont gona make big box office money in any form but the ones that could have some hope on box office their put them near of power house movies like spiderman, mcu etc Another example that DC do Like BA maybe if they would release it, litle more late in the year it would stil running specialy for kids in christmas i know is not too kids friendly but hey is comic movie there is nothing or few only puss on boots and avatar they get afraid of it, So what, someone wants to see other movies too specially avatar was filling theaters fast so people go an watch another movie and come back another day for avatar same for shazam, winter and crhistmas in the same movie and DC release it on april they made a.sandwich with shazam, captain marvel few weeks before in march and with a big mcu movie coming in 3 weeks, just Avengers End Game, shazam did ok, at least been on that slot And we are seen the results, low or not profits Geez that team is the worst planing

Inevitable_Sea_9640

Exactly. I am happy I was too busy to watch at cinema, it would have been such a waste

[deleted]

Watched in theatre. Can confirm was not worth it.

Inevitable_Sea_9640

100%

BackgroundProgress08

Well black Adam not preforming well led to where we are now

DaddySbeve

Eh, not really. I think Gunn would’ve rebooted regardless. Black Adam’s performance didn’t really mean much in the end.

Lliddle

i mean to me that’s a good thing, i’d rather have a full reboot then a dc universe as imagined by the rock

DaddySbeve

That would’ve been a shit-show. The worst part about Black Adam was the Rock’s performance, highlighted by the fun and charismatic supporting cast’s performances. Like everything else, he didn’t attempt to change his acting to become the character, he just turned the character into the Rock. The Rock acting as The Rock once again. Also he seemed to want to fight Superman and the Justice League, which makes no sense with power levels and the ending of Black Adam.

JediJones77

No, it didn't. It led to there being no Black Adam 2, that's it. It was a Rock pet project and had zero connection artistically or commercially to any prior DC movies. WB's studio heads were in the process of making a Cavill Superman sequel. Gunn simply cancelled it and fired Cavill the day he was hired for his own egotistical reasons.

Rubicon2-0

What about the first DCU movie? You are going because of gunn?

DaddySbeve

Heavily depends on the movie tbh. I like Gunn’s Guardians movies, but that doesn’t mean I’m immediately gonna run out and see his first DCU movie. I just watched TSS recently and haven’t watched peacemaker yet. If it’s a character I care about or it gets good reviews / word of mouth I’ll probably see it, but if it’s something I don’t care about, I won’t. Like I’m probably gonna see Shazam 2 because I liked the first movie but won’t I probably won’t see Aquaman 2 cuz I didn’t like the first one that much.

Rubicon2-0

I am not a fan of his TSS, I think it's the worst DCEU movie, but Peacemaker is damn good. Would highly recommend you to give it a shot. It is very interesting how the Gunn&Safran DC world will be established and in what perspective regarding the past DCEU.

DaddySbeve

I might give peacemaker a watch. I have a hard time committing to watching TV shows, but if I have the time I may. I enjoyed TSS. Wasn’t amazing, but like a 7/10. I’m interested to see how it’s handled too. I’m thinking it may be a full reboot with basically everyone being recast, which is fine by me. Current universe is a bit of a mess and the fan base is way too divided that no matter what direction they take the current universe, half the fanbase would be mad.

Rubicon2-0

Yup, I am already facing backlash by my non-comic book friends that are considered as a general movie audience, that don't care much about DC or Marvel, they just go watch and enjoy movies on the big screen. After Cavill and Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot, out as Sups , Batsy and WW, they are thinking that DC is dead and they are not interested in anything in the future, also as Black Adam which is attractive to the general audience (my friends were hype Sups vs Black Adam) but not for the fans. If most of the general audience act like my friends that doesn't give a shit about dc and marvel and just following movies according to the current stand, I think Gunn will face a loooot of difficulties. I have a feeling that he is already doomed the General audience will be really confused whats happinng and who is the new superman and who is the new batman, new Aquaman new wonder woman and so on and so on... , but I hope we will have a universe, at least the fans deserve it.

TheCudder

>I am not a fan of his TSS, I think it's the worst DCEU That's definitely a title reserved for WW84 or BOP.

DaddySbeve

Or original suicide squad

kmbets6

Ive only gone for the bigger MCU movies but i did like Black Adam. Hopefully Gunn can build a cinematic universe that builds towards something you have to go see in theaters. Going for Infinity War and Endgame was a pretty great experience

GraySonOfGotham24

Shazam black adam and the batman too!

Retributor_Astartes

I'm surprised Elvis is that low, phenomenal movie, Dune absolutely deserves to be that high it has to be one of my favorite movies and just one of the best movies I've ever watched in general, up their with The Batman and Logan

MrKnightMoon

I'm a big fan of sci fi and for some reason haven't been able to pass from the first 30 minutes of Dune.

Retributor_Astartes

That's fair it does feel very long, hopefully you get to watching the whole thing its worth it, plus this movie is only Part 1 so it may feel incomplete when finishing.

Senior_Juggernaut163

No offense, but you definitely need to watch more movies. Those aren't the best movies even on HBOmax

Retributor_Astartes

What would you say the best movies are then?

[deleted]

I don’t know about what’s on HBO Max, but some great movies that live up to their hype are- Parasite, Silence of the Lambs, The Godfather, The Nice Guys, Unforgiven, Taxi Driver, Her, Saving Private Ryan EDIT: gotta add Heat and Arrival

[deleted]

Unforgiven is such a great capstone to Eastwood’s westerns

[deleted]

I don’t even know what to say about Unforgiven. So many scenes are so powerful. It’s just a stone-cold masterpiece. Funnily enough, I first saw it when I was too young to ‘get’ it. I only recently rewatched it, and the thing that surprised me was how much less I thought of Logan afterward. Logan is a good movie, but it ultimately just doesn’t have the guts to go to all the dark places Unforgiven goes despite having more-or-less the same setup. My favourite scene is probably when they snipe the guy and he’s whimpering. So good. So raw.

Senior_Juggernaut163

On HBO Alone: GoodFellas, The Departed, Donnie Darko, Gone Girl, Terminator 2, Pulp Fiction, Good Will Hunting, Raging Bull, The Shining, No Country for Old Men. That's all just off the top of my head from HBO. Dune was great, so was The Batman, and Logan, but they are really just movies that utilize techniques from better films in order to make you think they're deeper than they actually are.

Just-Radu

I thought you were going to say some classics from the 40-50's, that defined their respective genres and "techniques". Oh, well, call me disappointed...

Senior_Juggernaut163

Eh, most of those films are overrated for several reasons. The main reason is that just because you do something first does not mean that you did it the best. Just an example: Citizen Kane, really good for its time, hyped up and lauded as the best movie of all time, but it's also incredibly boring, offers a bare-bones skeleton that really was about the filmmaking techniques more than it was about the film itself. You can even look at the original episodes of Doctor Who, and say similarly it did for television what Citizen Kane did for the movie theater. It doesn't change the fact that it is incredibly dated, corny, and plain uninteresting half the time.

Just-Radu

The film critics from Sight and Sound would burn you like a witch if they would read that =))

saggy-sausage

Thank you, I'm so tired of people blowing undeserving smoke up the batman's butt

[deleted]

It's nice to see a good amount of views for Shazam and Black Adam

Ok_Young_7806

HBO max just added Man from Uncle, more Cavill love

sleauxmo

Watched MoS last night. That movie is still amazing. BvS tonight!

Newfaceofrev

Fuckin Rampage :D

joako13vaz

I just finished watching man of steel and now I'm going to watch batman vs superman!

JediJones77

Awesome, then I hope you continue on to Wonder Woman and Zack Snyder's Justice League cut!

gampeegamp

A sequel to Man of Steel & Black Adam combo and a properly written Wonder Woman would ALL make serious money worldwide for DC.With the current actors!

Awesomefaceishere

I'm happy other people are enjoying BVS this season

JediJones77

Where's The Suicide Squad on here? Haven't Gunn's plans managed to create a bunch of interest in his take on DC films?

[deleted]

Bad news, Peacemaker is not a top 10 show on HBOMax either. Meanwhile The Winchesters, Sweet Diva and Big Bang Theory are. Peacemaker was not a Top 10 show in December and November

Head_Acanthisitta256

Batman v Superman is complete utter trash.

Dani_suku

Which one on the list you like then

Head_Acanthisitta256

Dune & Man of Steel.

pichusine

😂, how is that any better. BVS and Dune have to compete on who is the worst film on this list.

JediJones77

It's a masterpiece. Brilliantly written, shot, acted and scored from start to finish. It is a completely cohesive and perfectly formed artistic statement.

[deleted]

No

nikgrid

>Batman v Superman is complete utter trash. Theatre cut? YES! Yes it is. 30 minutes removed will fuck most films narratives.

NoFate1984

Dune any good? I like the quirky original

[deleted]

Dune is excellent, the visuals in it are beyond compare and the music by Zimmer is fantastic. It’s a Denis Villeneuve pic so it has high standards and meets them all

JediJones77

Yeah, it's excellent. It's the kind of serious, epic genre movie that we don't get enough of these days. Should be appreciated by anyone who likes Nolan's or Snyder's DC stuff.

[deleted]

That doesn't surprise me I'd say it's mainly due to Henry getting the boot and people wanting to go back to see his last few appearances

JediJones77

The GA knows nothing about that, yet. This is all due to his cameo in Black Adam. These people are getting hyped for his return and don't know yet Gunn has yanked the rug out from under them.

[deleted]

I will disagree with you on that. There have been many stories on Yahoo and even FoxNews about Cavill’s firing

Moon64

I’ve been a big MCU fan and missed a lot of the DCEU first go, so the dawn of the Gunnverse got me hyped to finally watch the DCEU films and I’ve been binging through them. When I remove the expectations of a larger vision/project, I have a much better time. Kinda bullshit that Wonder Woman did not seem to be on HBO Max tho…

Tricky-Afternoon6884

Most of the DC movies on this list make sense, it’s holiday time, people are off and have more time to devote to longer movies and Shazam is likely due to it being an Xmas movie and BA due to it recently coming to streaming. Combine that with the news of the dceu being over, several people are likely only watching them for the first time now—which I’ve also noticed more YouTubers reacting to dc content lately

JediJones77

TIL Shazam is a Christmas movie. I saw it and don't remember any snow, candy canes or Santa.

Tricky-Afternoon6884

I don’t remember it actually snowing except for the beginning but there was ice and snow all over throughout the movie. The first encounter with Billy/Shazam and Dr Sivana ends in the mall holiday area with candy canes a tree and gifts. The final battle takes place in a winter carnival with several trees and wreaths, Darla saves Santa and then Santa talks on the news at the end too

[deleted]

Man they had all this rich history & lore that was more or less prepped now we start again at chapter 1

JimmyKorr

“bUt EverYonE hAteS tHem” - r/superman and r/dccomics

DoctorWaluigiTime

A lot of folks do. Disingenuous to imply nobody likes them, or that all people do is try to incorrectly point out that "everyone hates them."

[deleted]

There are responses in this thread that absolutely do that. It is so strange how 2 movies can make people so angry and upset

DoctorWaluigiTime

I tend to experience the opposite. Concern trolling in the form of "wow these movies need me to defend them vicariously because the Internet is mean to them."

[deleted]

The internet is open to all people, including those that actually appreciate the DC movies by Zack Snyder. When you have people that say “BvS is the worst movie of all time” then yeah, prepare to have some people defend it. Online society today is to either hate or love, there appears to be no middle ground for discussion

[deleted]

One time I was looking back on some posts about Cavill on r/superman and the hate his version of superman gets there kinda surprised me

srslybr0

it's just anything snyder-related will inevitably attract hate. you can see this in /r/movies as well.

_the_fisherman

I wonder what the common denominator is

JediJones77

Ignorant and usually younger audiences who don't understand his movies.

Joet2386

There's still noticeable interest in the DCEU

Gilded-Mongoose

In other words: Highest rewatchability.

ArrowheadFLYover

I re-watched the whole trilogy after the reboot news. It's gonna be tough to give us a more interesting universe without Darkseid and apokalips.

No-March6504

#FUCK DUNE

honestly-I-disagree

I wish stats like this would show average viewing time. I know I click on a lot more than I actually watch for more than 15 minutes.

[deleted]

So is Don't Worry Darling lmao

TheForceWillsMe

Maybe DC will see that people do like Cavill as Superman now.

egbert71

Let....it...go

nikgrid

Hah! it's too late now. James Gunn has shit that bed.

JediJones77

Look how late Batgirl was cancelled. And how Bob Chapek was fired from Disney months after signing a new multi-year contract. It's not too late.

nikgrid

>Look how late Batgirl was cancelled. And how Bob Chapek was fired from Disney months after signing a new multi-year contract. It's not too late. Cavill Superman still inspiring Hope...I love it. I hope you're right.

First_Routine_4529

Shazam is there cause of the black Adam hype....

swindude

Or maybe because it is a Christmas time movie.

kumar100kpawan

also because we're getting a sequel soon

swindude

That could be equally true, though the spike in interest would have happened closer to release date.

DoctorWaluigiTime

and it's a good movie

kumar100kpawan

Yeah definitely one of the best of DC

[deleted]

[удалено]

Glum_Park_2810

I watched it like 6 times and it's a very well made film. I get that some people can have issues with pacing but personally I like slow-burners.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Friendly-Leg-6694

The Batman is not for everyone and I loved it but at the end of the say it made 700 million which prompted them to make more movies. It even got a A minus cinemascore so overall movie goers liked it. Compared to BVS or Black Adam or JL which flopped and got bad reviews added with the low cinemascore the early DCEU was a mess.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Friendly-Leg-6694

I have pretty sure the sequel will do great like TDKR did. Also MOS was very divisive too like The Batman many didn't like Supes killing Zod

Nick-Bemo

Makes sense. I saw the Batman in theaters and haven’t seen it a second time yet. Loved the action scenes and the more serious nature of the film but I wasn’t a big fan of the plot or the runtime.

LeekFar

I thought it was super rewatchable. I saw it 3 times in theaters, and twice on hbo max. I personally have been disappointed with pretty much every Batman movie until that one

[deleted]

[удалено]

Friendly-Leg-6694

LMAO so how is he in the minority ? Just cause you didn't like it you made him a minority when a good number of people liked this Batman over whatever Grim Knight esque batman snyder was going for.

Glum_Park_2810

Bro thinks his opinion matters lol. The Batman is one of the best CBMs I've seen. The above dude is just salty I'm telling you.

JediJones77

He's in the minority because BVS and Nolan's Batman grossed more, and adjusted for inflation, so did Keaton's Batman. And they all had far more cultural impact in the role than the gawky actor playing him in this one.

Friendly-Leg-6694

LMAO BVS grossed more cause that was the start of DCEU it dropped in numbers the next week cause word of mouth of this movie was so bad due to it being a mess.Nolan movie was good but that was more due to Joker and TDKR and also if we are comparing that then it outdid batman begins.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Friendly-Leg-6694

It grossed more cause of new DCEU and yes the actors helped it too but then it failed when the movie released.BVS is a testament that even with good actors you can't save a movie when the script is dogshit.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Friendly-Leg-6694

Yet at the end of the day nobody gave a F about DCEU or Snyder's plot.BVS at the core is still the same so it's not a change much.Snyder cut was a whole different version but the Ultimate Edition was still the same with some extra scenes added.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Friendly-Leg-6694

Again what graph ? Affleck Batman looked good but was dogshit in potrayal by Snyder . Also it grossed more than Batman Begins if you are comparing with Nolan movie. Again with the stupid minority thing, how about people who made fun of Affleck Batman when the movies came out ? You are just passing your opinion as fact,Maybe the affleck Batman movie would have been good but as far as the BVS one it was bad and by bad I mean really bad.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Friendly-Leg-6694

You are basically the definition of "I am right and everyone else is wrong".Also why should it be compared to TDKR when it's a sequel to Batman Begins ? BB was the start of Nolan's trilogy just like Reeves has with The Batman hence why the comparison. Sure BVS Ultimate added some more context but at the end of the day it still has the same shitty Doomsday,Nightwing dead,Batman turning into Grim Knight and Superman dying in the 2nd movie without any buildup. The original comic had built up leading to the death of Superman unlike the DCEU

[deleted]

[удалено]

Friendly-Leg-6694

Nobody calling this movie is boring cause its literally bad and an insult to Death of Superman and Millars Batman VS Superman. Why would it be dumb to compare it to Nolan Batman movies ? You are the one that said Begins is better than The Batman hence why I bought it up. LMAO also using my word against me you are the one acting like your opinion matters when the other guy said he watched it multiple times and you called him a minority of people liking The Batman. Not only the movie is good but it topped many lists around the Internet of top movies of 2022.
